Here is is. I took me over a month to really compile and such, but I'm happy with the results. I created it in the same manner as the original tracks list. It was tedious as shit.

1.Boy From School (Erol Alkan's Rework) – Hot Chip

I once read somewhere that Erol just gave the original "room to breathe" in this remix, and if you really look at things, it's true. Almost every element of the original song is present at some point, but never really all together. Of course, on top of it being derived from one of the best singles of 2006, Erol's rework adds elements to the song that just seemed to be undertones of the original, and actually end up highlighting it's greatness. The sappy, moody, drifting synth melodies are just absolutely entrancing at a certain point, and if you mix that with a steady beat and hi-hat shuffle, you've got yourself one hell of a track.

2. In White Rooms (Mexico Mix) – Booka Shade

I think its strange that a group I was so hell bent on disliking (due to hype) has this kitten-like effect on me. It's like, they could shit on the carpet and I'd only be mad for a tiny bit before I was back to swooning over them. This is the song that really set in stone Booka's place in my heart. Although it's a remix, its very true to the original and uses a lot of the same sounds, just in different ways. Its got such a great bounce to it that I can't help but sort of mentally spring to life when I hear it. And as every good dance song should, it has an amazing breakdown. When the bass synth drops back in after the breakdown, I can hardly contain myself. That is probably the best 10 seconds of music I've heard all year.

3. Never Be Alone – Justice Vs. Simian

God damn. Any song that you can scream the chorus at the top of your lungs is a good song, for one. Its even better if you can do after hearing only a minute of the song—on the first time you've ever heard it. Its just such a pop song at heart, and that makes sense considering the original was from a French pop group. WHO KNEW? Justice just take it and give it some dance floor zazz. They slap a funky bass line on it and basically let it rip, shipping it all over the world to rooms full of hot, sweaty kids that just want to be friends and have a good time. Hands down the most memorable track of 2006.

4. Ride A White Horse (Ewan Pearson Disco Odyssey Parts 1 and 2) – Goldfrapp

Ewan Pearson has always sort of been a dark horse favorite to me. I really enjoy, essentially, everything he has put out and his track always give me those first listen jitters because they're just so solid. This track is just so epic that I couldn't dismiss it as just "really good." Admittedly, I'm probably more amused with long, track based songs than most people, but in terms of someone who likes Techno, I have a pretty short attention span (hence Villalobos not littering my lists). This track really grabs me and then lets me rest for a minute or so at the 8 minute mark then gives me a stern look, a pat on the back, and a push back into the mess. Its really just that engrossing. I also really like the vocals on this song, actually. Go figure.

5. Waters of Nazareth (Erol Alkan's Dur Dur Durrr Re-Edit) – Justice

Oh Erol, you seem to basically hit a home run every time you step up to the plate. Not only that, but from what I've read in interviews, you have a lot of the same opinions and intentions as I do with regard to music and Djing. One such opinion is that you should do something new with a remix, but be respectful and true to the original work. This is a pretty perfect example. Anything less than the original Justice overdrive would be lackluster and a disappointment. So Erol says, "Fuck it. I'm just gonna use that." It totally works. He basically just gives us a different angle on the original Electro mayhem and that's a good thing. I'd also say that he gives it a little bit of funk? Maybe.

7. Worry About It Later (Switch Remix) – The Futureheads
8. Robot Rock (Soulwax Remix) – Daft Punk

Here it is. This took a while but I'm fairly pleased with it. The first installement of my Tracks list:

Top 50 Original Tracks of Two Thousand and Six.

1. Silent Shout – The Knife

I really can't pinpoint exactly why this song kicks so much ass. I mean, there is the fact that I still listen to it and love it as much as the day I got it (Feb, as my iTunes says). There's also the fact that its one of the only songs this year that actually "moves" me. The combination of the arpeggiated synths and the haunting vocals is almost too much, and there's really not that much going on in the track. I don't know. Best track of the year, hands down.

2. My Love ft T.I - Justin Timberlake

Jesus those rave synths own (so much I don't even mind the beatboxing). All around, everything just works out and it forms a nearly perfect pop song.

3. Mouth to Mouth – Audion

13 minutes of the same track isn't boring? THAT is an accomplishment. It just boucnes and modulates all over the place with a massive kick drum punching holes in your chest with every pound. Best heard on 11.

4. Burning - Whitest Boy Alive

Again, I love Erlend. He just has a perfect sense of melody. His voice just flows with the accompaniment like it was all meant to be and the sharp, yet bouncey beat holds it all together.

5. Waters of Nazareth – Justice

Let's face it. Justice are original gangstas. There would be none of this gnarled, uber-overdiven mania without this track, and what a track it is. Electro House for Metalheads. FUCK YEA.

6. Boy from school - Hot Chip

This track is as smooth as it is funky, and that doesn't even make sense. Between the "wa-wah-wah-WHAs" and the housey shuffle, there is plenty of groove for anyone to get down to and the vocal track really adds to songs the smooth, yet timid swagger.

7. Keanu Reeves(Grunge Version) - Kissy Sell Out

With a perfect intro for mixing, this song was a definite staple of my DJ sets. The opening beeps are a great hook to lure you into this grinding, mosh pit of a song. Really makes you want to headbang and shake your ass at the same time, inevitably resulting in a loss of balance.

8. We share our mothers health - The Knife

Bombastic. I mean, really what else is there to say? Karen's vocals are really the star ranging from high pitched squeals to the manly return. The programming is absurd, yet amzaing as Olof seems to just fuck with knobs and switches to make his whooshes and beeps.

9. Young Folks - Peter Bjorn and John

This song is pretty self explanatory, really. I mean, fuck, whistling. (As you'll see, the only song of this year that aslo has whistling in it made the list as well). Just a really great pop tune with some bongos and shit.

10. A Bit Patchy (original) (re-edit) – Switch

God damn you baile funk! Switch has really been all over the place this year and with good reason. Everything that he touches with this baby soft hands and bald head turns to south american-style, baile gold.

11. Easy Love – MSTRKRFT
12. Inflation - Whitest Boy Alive
13. Take That - Jurgen Paape
14. Kongo Thong - Mustapha 3000
15. Advance - Justus Köhncke
16. Let There Be Light – Justice
17. Summersong – The Decemberists

28. Just Like We (Breakdown) - Hot Chip

30. Drumtrax – Joakim

31. Crossover Appeal - Guns'n'Bombs

34. More Is Enough - Plan B & Epic Man
35. Ross Ross Ross - SebastiAn
36. The Whistler – Claude VonStroke

47. You Gonna Want Me – Tiga
48. Minuit Jacuzzi (ft Grand Marnier) – TEPR
49. What's Wrong My Friends? - Ricardo Villalobos
50. The Devil - The Rapture

This was actually not arbitrary at all. I narrowed it down to my top 50 songs then I gave each song either a 1 or a 2 and sorted them in word. Then I went through the 1s and gave songs that I felt were at the bottom of THIS list a 2 and sorted again. I did this for each set of 5 all the way down to 50. I'll do this with the Remixes list as well.

STAY TUNED FOR THE REMIX LIST AS SOON AS I GET IT DONE!
