Next-to-Last Armageddon Art Show is one night only show on Halloween Saturday October 31st from 7 – 10pm....

.. ..

The 621 Gallery invites artists to participate in this year’s Next-to-Last Armageddon Art Show.  Bring your aptly themed art piece to the Gallery Wednesday, October 28 – Friday, October 30th from 11am -6pm or on Halloween day from 1 – 5pm.  This is a completely non-juried show so wall space is first come first serve. ....

This is The 621 Gallery’s oldest running annual non-juried all media exhibition. It its 28th year, the Next-to-Last Armageddon celebrates the rule of misrule by offering the Gallery walls to all artists.  We celebrate the next-to-last end of days on Halloween night by only opening the gallery after sunset.  We invite guests to arrive in costume and bring a flashlight because there will be no lights.....
Artists participating in the Next-to-Last Armageddon Art Show receive half price admission, plus other applicable discounts, to the MasquerAID Ball.  Stay after the exhibit for the MasquerAID Ball where the heavy hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be flowing.  A fundraiser for 621 Gallery, the MasquerAID Ball will be a Halloween celebration involving a Zombie Crawl, Costume Contests and a surreal audience immersion performance based on the Edgar Allan Poe short story, The Masque of the Red Death, the SteamPunk version.  Purchase your tickets in advance at the Gallery.  Tickets for the MasquerAid are available at the Gallery or online at www.ticketstallahassee.com.....

.. ..

The 621 Gallery is open to the public Wednesday – Friday 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Saturday – Sunday 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Visit www.621Gallery.org for more information.  ....

Metamorphosis
In the Main Gallery
Opening First Friday, April 3rd, 6-9pm
April 3rd - 27th, 2009
In April, The 621 Gallery presents Metamorphosis, an exhibition revealing the metaphorical context of images and objects through pyschological reactions and association. Brand C. Smith captures emotional, intellectual and psychological moments in a visual context that relates the gross, comical, and kitsch aspects of contemporary culture to frailty and power of the human condition. Carole Loeffler pushes the boundaries of ordinary materials in order to create experiences, personalities, and environments imbued with themes of passion and sensuality. Daisy Winfrey explores themes of emotional trauma, fear, and memory through nostalgic materials intended to captivate the viewer with visual connections to the past. Julie Guyot creates ceramic objects that comment on concept of branding, labeling, and tagging.
Also, in the Nan Boynton Memorial Gallery will be the FSU Art Students' League.
Gallery hours are Wednesday - Friday 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Saturday - Sunday 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Visit www.621gallery.org for more information.

Founding member of The 621 Gallery and Sculpture Garden, Charles Hook, died early Monday morning after a two year battle with cancer. He was 59. Hook was a professor of Art at Florida State University and an internationally known sculptor. He is survived by wife sculptor Deborah LaGrasse and daughters Cayce Hook and Julia Hook.

On March 6, 2008 the gallery broke ground on The Charles Hook Sculpture Garden at The 621 Gallery. This renovated sculpture garden will honor Charles Hook by creating 16 spaces for outdoor contemporary sculpture throughout the Railroad Square Art Park. The gallery is currently hosting a National Outdoor Sculpture Competition the winners of which will receive an 18 month exhibition at The Charles Hook Sculpture Garden at The 621 Gallery. The inaugural ceremony for the renovated space and award ceremony for the Outdoor Sculpture Competition will take place on September 5, 2008.

It is because of Charles Hook and the founding members of The 621 Gallery that Tallahassee has a space for experimental contemporary art and outdoor contemporary sculpture. Thank you, Charles, for planting those seeds which have grown so vibrant and will continue to bring life to the Railroad Square Art Park for generations.
