Thx tons for getting tickets and coming out to our JRP/JH NAC 4th stage gig. Night was a success. Sold out house + CBC recording of the night for a few different CBC radio programs. We'll keep you posted on when they are.

The John Henrys sounded great....and the last tune with Rey guitar duo-ing was fun, haven't jammed out with another guitarist in a while. We wish them the best of luck on their next gigs (New Year's eve gig with the Sadies at the HorseShoe in Toronto).

The JRP kids were battling some head colds and other ailments but rallied together and got her done. There were definitely some highlights for us. Enjoyed doing 'Altered State' and 'Unsent' twice for recording posterity! And...for me personally, that 'Mildred' encore was great, felt good, hadn't played that song as a band in a while...and appreciated the request. And, seeing Niki come down from Vancouver was a real nice surprise... Niki's an original, one of the crew.

Thx for coming out people!
Thx to the NAC and the CBC too.
Thx to Switzer and Neville and Marcelin for pic taking (will upload photos/links soon)

A trippy night overall....

Hey all,

Fun day. We had an opening set for the Skydiggers at the Dragon Boat Festival. Great weather, good vibes. JRP had some nice moments on stage, tried out some new material of Shannon's, felt good.

And...the Skydiggers (http://www.skydiggers.com/), great guys, and great songs. I really, really hope they get a new album out. It was a pleasure and honour to meet them. I consider them at the forefront of a movement that I'm hoping continues. The songs are so solid and true and natural. You can feel how people love these guys when you're in the crowd.

Cool to see people out...and, special thx to Peter MacDonald who set up the gig for us. We appreciate it!

Well,

We had a blast yesterday, fer real. It was cool seeing people out and the music was flowing. All the acts were great and the festival was run very pro...and super friendly. JRP set felt good, and it was fun kicking Michael in the ass (literally!) to play a solo. I dig that whole 'dig in' with fiddle vibe.

Thx again to Heather and Elaina and everyone that made the musicians feel so welcome. I felt like I was in Europe or something, where you have art and street parties and people dig it!

(thx to Dave Knox and Andrew Neville for pics, more photos at: http://picasaweb.google.com/jrpboy/JRPWestFest2007)

Here's a couple of pics from recent gigs (thx to Andrew Neville). We played a fun gig at the Manx...and backed up Jeff Meleras at his CD release launch. His first album is called 'Songs from the Couch'. Great first album, produced by Jason Jaknunas.

We also helped kick off the 'Ottawa Festivals' season at City Hall. Fun gig, met some cool people.

Our next scheduled show is at Westfest coming up on June 10th. We're looking forward to that one for sure and have got the full JRP line up booked.

(.....Bless this reviewer, she 'gets us'.   :)       )

Morrison Heights  (4 1/2 stars out of 5)

Jupiter Ray Project (Independent)

With each listen you become more aware of the subtleties of Morrison Heights - the crickets, the woodstoves, the barking dog, all the sounds of the country where this album was made by husband-and-wife songwriting duo Jack Pelletier and Shannon Ross.

There's a painstaking attention to detail and a strong ability to say more with less. Ross's soulful vocal is an instrument all on its own (Jenny Lewis meets Angela Desveaux).

Pelletier stays in the background for the most part as producer/guitarist, save for two lazy-day tales called Wrote You A Song and Every Corner.

Ball and Chain's Michael Ball (fiddle), Souljazz Orchestra's Pierre Chretien (Hammond, Rhodes), Paul Christian (trombone), Jason Jaknunas (electric bass), Peter von Althen (percussion) and Chris Breitner (bass) add texture.

The whole disc culminates in the six-minute, swelling rock gem called Fight Your Way Out, adding guts to a fine country album. An early contender for disc of the year.

CD Release:
Well folks, we've been busy for the past few weeks promoting our new JRP album ('Morrison Heights') in the Ottawa area.

We had a great night last Thursday at the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield for our local CD Release.Thx to all that came out on a wintery night! Thx to the band, they did a great job, and thx to our 2 openers, Mark Wilson and Jeff Meleras.

PRESS:
We got some good press and help last week from radio and newsprint (CKCU, CBC, the Bear, CKCU, Ottawa Sun, Ottawa Citizen etc...). Here's a quick link of a
review of our album ( Ottawa Citizen ). Busy times, but good times. We played at a fundraiser at the Glebe Community Center (nice place) and did a CD Warehouse promo gig yesterday (fun)....

coming up...
We've been submitting to festivals and are working on booking more shows in and outside of Ottawa. As well there is talk of doing some more radio promo spots (stay tuned...i can't give details till we confirm...).

Next gig is lined up for Friday, April 13th @ Irene's. We'll be sharing the night with Casey Comeau and the Wilderness Club (
www.myspace.com/caseycomeau). Should be a blast. Keep an eye on our myspace site at www.myspace.com/jrpmusic for upcoming news....there'll be more activity!

thx everyone!
