Reading Rainbow Reaches it's End- WHYY? (sorry for puns)

After nearly three decades, Reading Rainbow is being cancelled. Reading Rainbow Reaches Its Final Chapter

But, but I thought I CAN BE ANYTHING! Just take a look, It's in a book. A Reading Rainbow!! Someone should cover that song, and I'm willing to bet someone has. I wasn't planning on exposing Hattie to much TV, at least so long as I can impose that sort of rule, but I was hoping to give her an occasional dose of Levar! I am truly disappointed! (Notice, by the way, how Levar seems to have NOT aged at all. Maybe Geordi La Forge plays Levar Burton and not the other way around. It's been 26 years!) The show started when I was 5 years old. No wonder I took to it from the get go! I loved that opening theme so much!
The reasons given are funding- no one will put up the several hundred thousand needed to keep the show going- and that they need shows that teach kids HOW to read with phonics and such, citing the No Child Left Behind Bush rhetoric. Please. That's all well and fine, but how about shows that teach kids to love to read? You can't deny the Rainbow!

Oh, and I would have liked to have put this under a more fitting category, but it really says something that MySpace didn't think to add a category for Reading or Books! Or any Kids' interests for that matter.
