Alicia Keys OUTED on Wendy Williams Show

Long before Jon Grosslin and Tiger Woods made made celebrity affairs the new reality TV hot button, homewrecker Alicia Keys was been involved with married music producer Swizz Beats. Keys, who is often quoted for saying she's all about empowering Black women, has repeatedly denied any involvement.

But Keys was outed for her adultress affair on the December 15 episode of the Wendy Williams Show by lifestyle guru B. Smith and Wendy herself.

During a cooking segment, Wendy and Smith dished about partying with Keys and Swizz Beats and the bling that he gave her in front of the group while they were all out celebrating her birthday. Smith tried to regroup saying, "I was drinking...I can't remember," but confirming that she was at the event and indeed did see the couple being a couple.

Smith was on the show to promote her new book: B. Smith cooks southern style.

....
Above: Keys talks about her upcoming new movie with Halle Berry

Meanwhile, as Tiger Woods gets beat over the head for having as many as a dozen mistresses, Keys plays up a "squeaky clean" image. Her new CD, Element of Freedom, likely doesn't address why Swizz's kids will not be a happy family this Christmas.

NEWS: Son of Rev. Sharpton's publicist arrested; mother's actions in question

(BlackPress.org) - Rev. Al Sharpton is no stranger to Black youth who find themselves arrested in New York City. He's made national news coming to the aid of Black children in such situations.

That's why the arrest of Rachel Noerdlinger's 12-year-old son at the 148th Street Housing Project division of NYPD is so alarming.

Noerdlinger's reaction was not typical of any mother whose son was arrested, nor is it typical of someone who works for such a powerful man.

A person intimately familiar with the Noerdlinger family situation reached out to BlackPressRadio's DC Livers to inquire into the situation. That's where things got dicey.

"I received a call saying that her son was arrested and that she was told to 'leak' the arrest to the media. The caller said she wasn't able to get Rev. Sharpton involved because his own daughter Dominique and ex-wife were arrested by police on a separate matter and he was busy planning anti-violence rally," said DC Livers, managing editor for the Historical Black Press Foundation. "Looking back now it was odd that Rev. Sharpton wasn't involved, but it was portrayed to me as if a 12-year-old Black boy was beat up by police and arrested. I agreed for his sake."

Livers said the caller gave her the name of the reporters and phone numbers that Noerdlinger wanted contacted.

"I was specifically asked to contact Al Baker of the New York Times and Rocco Parascandola, NYPD lead writer for the New York Daily News. I was concerned for the little boy, so I agreed to contact the reporters," Livers said.

Shortly after speaking with the reporters, Livers said the story started to get "weird."

"On December 9, I got a call from Noerdlinger who said she was in Washington, DC with Rev. Sharpton and George Curry. She led me to believe she was calling with the blessing of Sharpton's National Action Network. Livers first met Noerdlinger in Washington, DC at the National Press Club last year during a breakfast at which Rev. Jeremiah Wright spoke about his relationship with then presidential candidate Barack Obama.

"I was shocked," said Livers. "I don't this woman, aside from meeting her once or twice professionally, I never heard of her. Yet, here she was threatening me," said Livers.

"There is clearly something about the arrest that she didn't want coming out," Livers said. The threats continued on December 10 when Noerdlinger called and left text and voicemail messages Livers more than 15 times in a ten minute period. She even had her "husband" call and threaten Livers. He is believed to be an ex-convict who served time for violent crimes.

"He said she was his wife, but she kept saying she would "call every editor I work for" and defame me."," Livers said. "That doesn't sound like a concerned mother of a wrongly arrested son," Livers said.

Finally, Livers contacted the police and notified Noerdlinger that she was going to contact the police. She also called Parascandola.

"In my line of work, this isn't the first time I've been threatened but it's the first time anyone threatened me for trying to help their child," Livers said. "It proves that no good deed goes unpunished."

NEWS: White House press secretary and Black reporter April Ryan fight in press briefing
by DC Livers for Black Press Magazine

Press Secretary Gibbs, AURN's April Ryan and embattled White House employee Desiree Rogers

! WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW and READ the PRESS BRIEFING TRANSCRIPT
(BlackPress.org) - Yet another reason that Desiree Rogers should be removed from her White House post surfaced this week when White House press secretary Robert Gibbs and April Ryan of American Urban Radio Networks battled during a press briefing on Wednesday in which Gibbs essentially compared Ryan to a petulant child.

Ryan, who provided an exclusive interview to BlackPressRadio's DC Livers during the 100th Anniversary of the NAACP in New York City in July, was one of seven Black journalists chosen to accompany President Obama on Air Force One from DC to NYC where he spoke at the Dinner.

The borderline unprofessional exchange was sparked by Ryan's decision to question the embattled White House social secretary Desiree Rogers at Obama's first State dinner, at which Tareq and Michaele Salahi are alleged to have "party crashed."

Ryan made it known that many Washington insiders believe that Rogers had overstepped the traditional role of her title at the event in hopes of becoming the "belle of the ball," thus "overshadowing the first lady." Angered by Ryan's line of questioning, Gibbs demanded that she "calm down" and  "take a deep breath," adding "I do this with my son and that's what happens."

As the members of largely White press corps cringed, murmured and chuckled at Gibbs' chastising, Ryan shot back: "Don't play with me."

There is little reason to fight for Rogers to be in her position next week, but this latest incident shows the seriousness of having the wrong person at the helm.

The borderline unprofessional exchange was sparked by Ryan's decision to question the embattled White House social secretary Desiree Rogers.

BREAKING NEWS: Ne-Yo's mom sets the record straight on son's sexuality

neyo.jpg image by LameDragon

(BlackPressRadio) - Long before Lady GaGa and Adam Lambert stunned the world as openly gay musicians, the Internet buzzed that R&B superstar Ne-Yo was an in-the-closet homosexual. In fact, a bogus Essence magazine article claimed that the songwriting wonder had come out.

In an exclusive one-on-one interview with BlackPressRadio's DC Livers, Ne-Yo's mother H. Loraine Smith breaks her silence and addresses rumors. Smith also discusses the trials and tribulations of being a single mother raising two children and her upcoming new talk show that will provide advice and inspiration nationwide.

Smith is a long-time child advocate and currently heads up Ne-Yo's Compound Foundation whose mission is to increase awareness about the status of children in the child welfare system in America and to support and partner with residential care facilities through programs aimed at teaching entrepreneurship and life skills that will empower them to become productive, successful, independent adults.

The LIVE interview will air Tuesday, November 24, 2009 on BlackPodcasts.net and then will be re-ran on HipHopDx.com.

REVIEW: Wendy Williams cops a plea during Chris Brown interview

Chris Brown appears on
Felon Chris Brown hams it up Williams' TV show

(BlackPress.org) - He called her a man. She called him out during her "Hot Topics" segments. But in the end, it was all a wash.

Wendy Williams, the controversial talk show host whose interviews have been so intense that guests including rapper Method Man and female boxing champ Laylah Ali have admitted, "I wanted to kick her a**." But, in the end, America's newest celebrity felon Chris Brown should simply send her a check.

Not only did Williams treat Brown with kid gloves, she stopped short of coaching him during her high promoted November 13 interview with Brown on her award winning Wendy Williams TV show. She even went so far as to debut his new video, "Crawl" on her show.

It's not that Brown didn't give Williams a chance.

He admitted that he's currently dating. But, she let it slide. Brown said he watched Rihanna's interview, but Williams didn't press it. To add insult to injury, the music video lasted longer than the interview, which was taped on November 12 but aired today.

The show re-airs on BET tonight at 10 pm.

(BlackPress.org) - It was a hair-raising event on the set of the Wendy Williams Show today as Black Press presented Wendy Williams with her official Black Press All Star Awards plaque, gift basket and other gifts that included a high-end lace front courtesy of ForGirlsLikeUs, Inc.  Williams incorporated one of the gifts (the lace front wig) into the show in a way that will be memorable to fans for a long time to come.

"All I can say is you gotta see this episode," said DC Livers, managing editor for the Historical Black Press Foundation, which hosts the Black Press All Star Awards. "Wendy made the lace front a new character on her show. Of course, it was funny as can be, but it really showed how in touch she is with her audience. She did it in such a way that made you want more and more," Livers said.

Livers presented the award to Williams who personally came over to say thank you during a commercial break.

"It was a really fun morning filled with lots of dancing," said Livers. "Wendy was gracious and funny and seemed to sincerely appreciate getting the award that was chosen for her by her media peers and fans," Livers said.

Williams won for Best Black TV Show and People's Choice Award: Best Black Reality TV Star.

"There are other mini-winner ceremonies plans in the coming weeks, so I hope that they will all be this much fun," Livers said.

BREAKING NEWS: EBONY Magazine could be sold to Time, Inc. according to media report

"Where we you the day that Ebony died?"
- DC Livers at the 5th Annual
Black Press
All
Star Awards Luncheon on Sept. 18, 2009 in Harlem, NY

(BlackPress.org) - Two weeks after the emergency Townhall Meeting entitled, "SOS: Can We Save America's Black Press?" at the 5th Annual Black Press All Star Awards in Harlem, NY, comes news that the industry's flagship publication, EBONY magazine, could potentially be sold to a White-owned media company.

According to a recent article published in the September 25, 2009 edition of NewsweekJohnson Publishing Company's current chief executive officer, Linda Johnson Rice, the daughter of its founder, John H. Johnson, has allegedly approached Time Inc, Viacom and other potential buyers. Time Inc. owns Essence magazine, which was co-founded by the late Gordon Parks. Viacom, Inc. currently owns Black Entertainment Television or BET, which it purchased from co-founders Dr. Sheila Johnson and Robert Johnson for $3 billion.

"I'm simply devastated by the idea that Ebony will no longer exist," said DC Livers, managing editor for the Historical Black Press Foundation, which produces the Black Press All Star Awards. "This is not what Mr. Johnson would have wanted. The new owner will treat Ebony like an old car and strip it for its parts, mostly its photographic library. Some of the most important photos of all time are in the hands of Johnson Publishing Company. We simply cannot allow this to happen," Livers said.

The Publishers Information Bureau, which monitors advertising revenue in the industry, reports that while ad revenue is down across the board about 28 percent, Ebony, is down 35 percent, a revenue drop of nearly $10 million in one year. JET's ad revenue is off by 40 percent, according to the bureau.

Johnson Publishing Company confirmed that the company is "exploring its options" but shot down rumors that it is plans to sell out to certain White-owned media companies.

"As we've indicated previously, we are exploring a range of options to support our core media business," said Wendy Parks, corporate communications manager for the company. "However, we are not in discussions with Time, Inc. and Viacom."

"Years ago, I spoke at length with Col. Eugene Scott, who at the time was heading up the Chicago Defender, which was struggling to stay Black-owned itself," Livers said. "He came to our event and in his speech he said, ‘Do you want the publication and its content or do you want it to be Black-owned, even if it means the publication dies?’ We have some choices to make, but it starts with this very question. Sadly, the question still remains relevant and the answer is just as hard to answer today. It's the worse catch-22 our industry has faced in generations," Livers said.

Today, the Chicago Defender is 104-years old, has a website and twitters, continues to publishing - although only once a week, and remains Black-owned.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to future updates.

..NEWS: Tyler Perry honored by Congressional Black Caucus Spouses at Washington, DC Kick Off Event

(BlackPress.org) - Full circle. That's how one can describe Tyler Perry's life. The playwright turned media mogul became homeless after his play, "I Can Do Bad By Myself" flopped.

But on Sept. 23, the Congressional Black Caucus Spouses recognized the contributions of Perry as well as another outstanding individual in the visual and performing arts, as well as students pursuing careers and opportunities in those areas during the 13th Annual Celebration of Leadership in the Fine Arts in Washington, DC.

This year’s other honoree was Sam Gilliam, internationally celebrated as the leading contemporary African-American color field painter and lyrical abstractionist, and Tyler Perry, the American playwright, screenwriter, actor, director and producer of numerous successful films and stage plays.

The Celebration of Leadership program kicked off the Spouses’ activities as part of the CBCF’s 39th Annual Legislative Conference (ALC), at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. More than 18,000 people are expected to attend the four-day conference. Since the early sixties, Mr. Gilliam has been recognized as an original and innovative color field painter.

His works have been in the public collections of major museums including Art Institute of Chicago, Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. From his first stirring play, “I Know I’ve Been Changed,” to his latest blockbuster film “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” Mr. Perry’s sense of humor, combined with a message of redemption and hope, have made him one of the most sought after Hollywood entities.

More than 300 performing and visual arts students applied for this national scholarship program – a 100 percent increase from last year. Twenty students will receive scholarships. “The increase in scholarship applications indicates the importance of the arts programs in schools,” said Simone-Marie Meeks, CBC Spouse chair.

“The Spouses recognize that students should have a full realm of academic challenges as well as opportunities to explore the fine arts.”

Stay tuned to Black Press Channel on YouTube (www.youtube.com/blackpress) for full event coverage.
