Hello friends,

Here's an interview I did with Tsururadio. I talk about what inspires me, how my songs come to be, my favourite taco fillings and more. There's also a mixtape the interviewer put together based on my tastes. Love it!

See you Montrealers soon!

Hello, One Hundred Words for Water just got a lovely review here, in which the reviewer interpreted many of the lyrics on the album, so I've decided to post some of the lyrics. Here's a link to the review:

Song for Yannick....

.. ..

We came back from the trip

Without an answer, without an answer

He’d been waiting for us here

Rationing his food and water

.. ..

Turn the key in the dark

He’s like a chess piece, after two weeks

He’s still waiting for us here

Rationing his food and water.

.. ..

Our routine is looming while he’s grooming

Lie on the eiderdown, we go from lost to found.

In the backyard, he is free

offering his tune for three.

.. ..

It was all the same to him

the same bed,

it was all the same where

he’d rest his head.

He led us back to us.

He needs us less and less.

.. ..

We decide to feel it all

We forget about our angry scrawl

Our love, he did reinstall

So let’s get down to city hall.

.. ..

Prelude and Epilogue

.. ..

Hold on to the edge of the boat

we'll go 1, 2, 3 for broke.

.. ..

Shadows are longer as we clear the bay

Dinner bell is ringing as we sail away

.. ..

When we fall down to the bottom where we've never been.

Our feet touch the ocean floor

We step 8, 9, 10 ashore.

.. ..

We're on crown land, we run into the Queen

Just like us, she tries stay unseen

Public life…

this heat is getting to me.

.. ..

Autumn’s here it’s almost too late

To dive into this cold lake

Now I’m in over my head

The waves are what I must tread.

.. ..

A Thousand Jacobs

.. ..

..A thousand Jacobs make their way..

across the darkening causeway

and in my flip book

I can recall his every look.

.. ..

The pages turning make a breeze

Across my face putting me at ease

And oh his green eyes photograph well

Though he denies it.

.. ..

I’m losing sight of the day

I caught the ferry too late

You’ll never see my storage house

I stash, I stash all I can find of you

then, replay on my evening walk

You know, I’m holding you close when I cross

.. ..

1000 knotted laces come undone

with his embraces, it’s all or none

and in my quietude, the thought of his face

I can’t refuse

.. ..

I’m losing sight of the day

I caught the ferry too late

You’ll never reach my storage house

I stash, I stash all I can find of you

Then replay

On my evening walk

You know, I’m holding you close when I cross

Make my way home without a loss

.. ..

He lies on a bench above the snow

The wake he leaves behind is deep and colourful

I try to make my way home without a loss

The pages, I hold close when I cross,

Make my way home without a loss…

.. ..

.. ..

..Ghost in a Landscape..

.. ..

You jumped to the ground

The jig is up now

Your hiding place

You tried to remember

What brought you here

To all the faces staring

They’ll take you out

Far from the country

Far from the country

.. ..

They put your portrait the corner

You were the only one in a landscape

Leaning against the ruins that they made

Everyone else was sitting with their hands in their laps,

With their hands in their laps, with their hands in their laps,

With their hands in their laps.

.. ..

And so you write from rooms

You pay for by the week until you can come home

The legends grow

You wish the crown would fall in your sleep

In your garden, under the arc they thought they saw you passing through

You used to talk to ghosts

And now it seems that you have become one too.

.. ..

Ophelia

.. ..

I walked down the stairs

And saw the ground floor flooded

So I took off my robe

And I took off my slippers

I left them on the steps

And walked into the water.

.. ..

He might have left a note somewhere

By now, it’s floated down

I couldn’t be bothered fishing for a note

I couldn’t be bothered.

Below the window I float

I can’t see outside and no one sees in

.. ..

I’ve grown to like

Swimming in my living room

The dust is underwater

I can’t see it no more

The dust is underwater

No |I can’t see it no more.

.. ..

(Verse 2 repeats)

Below, below, below, lie low…

Below the window I float

I can’t see outside and no one sees in.

.. ..

.. ..

.. ..

..Charlie, I'm Through..

.. ..

You want me here to witness it all

So it will all be true

But Charlie I’m through, Charlie I’m through

I’m through seeing for you.

For seven months, I underscore

I was grieving a loss

You let me sleep on your living room floor

You became my boss.

.. ..

Now Charlie I’m through, Charlie I’m through

seeing for you.

Charlie I’m through, Charlie I’m through

seeing for you.

.. ..

When you had to find new limits

You wanted me to be your witness

Don’t want to watch you jump through fire

Don’t even want to enquire.

.. ..

Charlie I’m through, Charlie I’m through

seeing for you.

Charlie I’m through, Charlie I’m through

seeing for you.

.. ..

You showed me all your videotapes

To help me understand

Just how much thousands adore you

All across the land

And as soon as you open the door

They come calling for more

You want me here to help you ignore

But I can’t no more.

.. ..

Now, Charlie I’m through, Charlie I’m through

seeing for you.

Charlie I’m through, Charlie I’m through

seeing for you.

.. ..

.. ..

..Two Boys..

.. ..

I left two boys on the roadside of love

I left two boys on the roadside

I saw them embrace from a mile away

then they were gone as my ride turned the corner

.. ..

On the roadside of love

I’d seen enough

On the roadside of love

We parted

.. ..

On the roadside of love

I gave them up

On the roadside of love

.. ..

We’d step aside, let the tanks roll by

The sound would bury their cries.

They kept me up, oh they kept me up

There were no curtains for me to shut

.. ..

On the roadside of love

I’d seen enough

On the roadside of love

We parted

.. ..

On the roadside of love

I gave them up

On the roadside of love

.. ..

They’ll be better off now

The river to the left widens out

The motor runs loud

Lets me space out

We don’t talk,

We don’t talk.

.. ..

Clouds

.. ..

We were well camouflaged in the clouds

I forgot all about the strings

That used to pull me left then right

On the tracks, the cabins that were small and tight.

.. ..

I have named all the cows in the field

Now they’re all too small to see

Even if we yelled out loud

Our voice couldn’t penetrate the cloud

Even if we yelled out loud

Our voice couldn’t penetrate the cloud.

.. ..

Off with your left and off with your right shoe

Watch how they quickly fall from view

Down to the ocean or slide off the side of a mountain

I can see the sign for 5 Roses

Clouds of flour under our noses

Hi friends! Here is a description of our next show, which will be recorded by CBC and broadcast later on Canada Live and The Signal!!!

Nightlife magazine categorized Flotilla in a recent review as “indie-prog-pop”, which is maybe the most successful hyphenation so far to capture the Montreal group’s style of music. During this concert in collaboration with the prominent contemporary-classical trio In Extensio, one more hyphen might be required to describe what’s going on.

Flotilla’s bassist and keyboardist Geof Holbrook is a classical composer as well as pop musician, an in fact he’s written music for In Extensio. At Lion d’Or on October 12th, the flute-clarinet-percussion trio will play a set of modern classical compositions, including Geof’s piece as well as others by Emily Hall, Malina Rauschenfels, and Catherine Likhuta. Then the rock concert starts; Flotilla will take the stage and will be joined by the members of In Extensio to form a hyper-hybrid-septet, to play special arrangements of songs from Flotilla’s acclaimed release of this year, “One Hundred Words for Water”, as well as new material written just for this concert.

This show is part of the “Le Viver” subscription series (www.levivier.ca) Entry is $14, or $10 for students. Tickets are available in advance for 10$ on flotilla's myspace page.

Press photos and more information on Flotilla can be found at www.sonicbids.com/flotilla3.

Hope you can make it! I'm super excited!
