Just when you thought I had was gone!!!!!!!

Here is a special Black History short clip

About 2 weeks ago The Nation of Islam held their annual Saviours' Day convention.

The Nation of Islam Saviours' Day Convention is the annual commemoration of the Birth of Master W. Fard Muhammad, February 26, the Founder of the Nation of Islam.

In 2008, the Saviours' Day Convention was held in the city of Chicago- February 22 through February 24. The convention culminated with the keynote address, "The Gods At War; The Future Is All About Y.O.U.th" by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan on Sunday, February 24.

This year was particularly interesting with the current Presidential bid by
Barack Obama (Black Senator from the state of Ill.).
Many have wondered about the nature of the relationship between the controversial Nation of Islam Leader Min. Louis Farrakhan and Illinois Sen. and Dem. Presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

Min Farrakhan, who is one year recovered from a very near death experience that has all but taken him out of public speaking, has made no statement at all about this very news worthy topic.

Strange??

Well almost on cue the Min. must have been saving it for his Saviours' Day keynote address. The 2hr plus long speech was full of Praise for Barack Obama.

And yes we have that 4 ya!!!!

You can thank me later
Also

Please reply to this short and let me know if
you would like to continue to have Black History figures profiled like
I did in February

If the response is positive I will continue to spread the knowledge!!!!!!!!!!

So with out anymore
Here are excerpts from the speech that had everybody questioning Obama about everything from his religion to his acceptance of the Ministers high praises.

Here also is Barack's response!!!!!

Min. Farrakhan's Saviours' Day comments

Min. Farrakhan urges people to pray for Mr. Obama

Barack Obama's response

After the Minister's comments the media immediately jumped on  Mr. Obama
He lost Texas and Ohio. He later won Rhode Island and the Wyoming Caucasus.
His name has been attacked and pictures have surfaced of a visit he made to Kenya.
Dressed in African cultural dress the connotation is that he is lying about his religion and
he is really a Muslim.

Which makes me wonder!
Are we at war with terror or are we at war with Islam?

And if he is a Muslim (and he is not!) is he disqualified from being the President?

Wait until they find out he's Black! (smile!)

More next time??

God willing?  Your call

Oh and

Happy Saviours' Day!

The Arcane Entertainment and Management Blog

The study of yourself will lead you to a greater understanding of not just you but everything around you. Not just yesterday or even today but tomorrow. If our history has been hidden in the most Arcane manner (and it has), you should ask yourself Why?

Like Jadakiss said Why??????

If your history (Black History) has been changed, minimized, erased, downplayed, falsified, watered down, vilified, and outright stolen; we must ask Why? What is so important/dangerous about us Black people in America (specifically) and all around the world knowing our history and origins.  Why????  Why are some figures played up and some almost written out of history. Whose purpose does this serve?? What purpose does this serve????????????

With that being said let's get into today's profile .................................................
P.S. this could be my best work ever (I went a little overboard on the pics though LOL!!!)

Marcus Mosiah (Messiah) Garvey-founder of the U.N.I.A

Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Jr., National Hero of Jamaica (August 17, 1887 - June 10, 1940), was a publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, Black nationalist, orator, and founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL).

Prior to the twentieth century, leaders such as Prince Hall, Martin Delaney, Edward Wilmot Blyden, and Henry Highland Garnet advocated the involvement of the African diaspora in African affairs. Garvey was unique in advancing a Pan-African philosophy to inspire a global mass movement focusing on Africa known as Garveyism.  Promoted by the UNIA as a movement of African Redemption, Garveyism would eventually inspire others, ranging from the Nation of Islam, to the Rastafari movement (which proclaims Garvey to be a prophet). The intention of the movement was for those of African ancestry to "redeem" Africa and for the European colonial powers to leave it. His essential ideas about Africa were stated in an editorial in the Negro World entitled "African Fundamentalism" where he wrote:

Our union must know no clime boundary or nationality...let us hold together under all climes and in every country...

Garvey's memory has been kept alive worldwide. Schools, colleges, highways, and buildings in Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States have been named in his honor. The UNIA red, black, and green flag has been adopted as the Black Liberation Flag. Since 1980, Garvey's bust has been housed in the Organization of American States' Hall of Heroes in Washington, D.C.

Malcolm X's father Earl Little met Malcolm's mother Louise at a UNIA convention in Montreal, Canada. He also was the president of the UNIA division in Omaha, Nebraska and sold the Negro World newspaper while his wife Louise was a contributor to the Negro World.

Kwame Nkrumah named the national shipping line of Ghana the Black Star Line in honor of Garvey and the UNIA. Nkrumah also named the national soccer team the Black Stars as well. The black star at the center of Ghana's flag is also inspired by the Black Star Line.

Impact of Marcus Garvey

By Dr. John Henrik Clarke

..........The enemies of Africans, the world over were gathering their counter-forces while a large number of them pretended to be sympathetic to the African's cause. Some of these pretenders, both Black and White, were F.B.I. and other agents of the government whose mission it was to frustrate and destroy the Civil Rights Movement. In a different way the same thing was happening in Africa. The coups and counter-coups kept most African states from developing into the strong independent and sovereign states they had hoped to become.

While the Africans had gained control over their state's apparatus, the colonialist's still controlled the economic apparatus of most African states. Africans were discovering to their amazement that a large number of the Africans, who had studied abroad were a detriment to the aims and goals of their nation. None of them had been trained to rule an African state by the use of the best of African traditional forms and strategies. As a result African states, in the main, became imitations of European states and most of their leaders could justifiably be called Europeans with black faces. They came to power without improving the lot of their people and these elitist governments continue until this day.

In most cases what went wrong was that as these leaders failed to learn the lessons of self-reliance and power preparation as advocated by Marcus Garvey and in different ways by Booker T. Washington, W.E.B Dubois, Elijah Muhammad and Malcolm X. Africa became infiltrated by foreign agents. Africans had forgotten, if they knew at all, that Africa is the world's richest continent, repository of the greatest mineral wealth in the world. They had not asked themselves nor answered the most critical question.

If Africa is the world's richest continent, why is it so full of poor people?

Marcus Garvey advocated that Africans control the wealth of Africa. He taught that control, control of resources, control of self, control of nation, requires preparation, Garveyism was about total preparation.

There is still no unified force in Africa calling attention to the need for this kind of preparation. This preparation calls for a new kind of education if Africans are to face the reality of their survival.

 Garvey and Rastafari

Rastafarians consider Garvey a religious prophet, saint and sometimes even the reincarnation of John the Baptist. This is partly because of his frequent statements uttered in speeches throughout the 1920s, usually along the lines of "Look to Africa, when a black king shall be crowned for the day of deliverance is at hand!"

His beliefs deeply influenced the Rastafari, who took his statements as a prophecy of the crowning of Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia.(see earlier profile) Early Rastas were associated with his Back-to-Africa movement in Jamaica. This early Rastafari movement was also influenced by a separate, proto-Rasta movement known as the Afro-Athlican Church that was outlined in a religious text known as the Holy Piby - where Garvey was proclaimed to be a prophet as well. Thus, the Rastafari movement can be seen as an offshoot of Garveyite philosophy. As his beliefs have greatly influenced Rastafari, he is often mentioned in reggae music.

Critical of Haile Selassie I in the wake of the invasion of Ethiopia before World War II, Garvey himself never identified with the Rastafari movement, and was, in fact, raised as a Methodist who went on to become a Roman Catholic.

Ya know what I mean!

Marcus Garvey was born in St Ann's Bay, Jamaica on 17 August 1887, the youngest of 11 children. He inherited a keen interest in books from his father, a mason and made full use of the extensive family library. At the age of 14 he left school and became a printer's apprentice where he led a strike for higher wages. From 1910 to 1912, Garvey traveled in South and Central America and also visited London.

He returned to Jamaica in 1914 and founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA). In 1916, Garvey moved to Harlem in New York where UNIA thrived.

By now a formidable public speaker, Garvey spoke across America. He urged AfricanAmericans to be proud of their race and return to Africa, their ancestral homeland and attracted thousands of supporters.

To facilitate the return to Africa that he advocated, in 1919 Garvey founded the Black Star Line, to provide transportation to Africa, and the Negro Factories Corporation to encourage black economic independence. Garvey also unsuccessfully tried to persuade the government of Liberia in west Africa to grant land on which black people from America could settle.

In 1922 Garvey was arrested for mail fraud in connection with the sale of stock in the Black Star Line, which had now failed. Although there were irregularities connected to the business, the prosecution was probably politically motivated, as Garvey's activities had attracted considerable government attention. Garvey was sent to prison and later deported to Jamaica.

In 1935, he moved permanently to London where he died on 10 June 1940. In 1964, his body was returned to Jamaica where he was declared the country's first national hero!

..

The facts of his life are well known. Haile Selassie's influence on the world is his most enduring legacy. Born Tafari Makonnen in 1891, Haile Selassie came to be identified inextricably with Ethiopia. Only rarely in the modern world does the story of a man become so closely linked to the story of a nation. It is said that great events beget great men, but they beget failures as well, and the boundary between the two is often defined by singular acts of courage. These the Ethiopian Emperor did not lack.

Not surprisingly, the fortitude of the man sometimes referred to as "The Lion" inspired Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King and even Malcom X, each of whom corresponded with Haile Selassie --who advocated civil disobedience when it was necessary to remedy fundamental social injustice or ..restore freedom to the oppressed. The Emperor's presence at President Kennedy's funeral is still remembered. It seems somehow appropriate that the motion picture Born Free was filmed in Ethiopia during Haile Selassie's reign.

One speaks of leaders of men as though their public lives were completely divorced from their private ones. For a hereditary monarch, this should not be the case. What his children think of him is as important as what everybody else thinks. Haile Selassie was a devoted husband and father. His wife, Empress Menen, died in 1962. His sons, Sahle Selassie, Makonnen, and Asfa Wossen, had a great sense of duty to their father and to their people. Of his daughters, Princess Tenagne, in particular, excercised various official duties.

Haile Selassie ascended the throne in the era of polar exploration and slow communication. Africa's oldest nation was little more than a footnote to the great stories of the day --something that Americans and Brits read about in the pages of the National Geographic. Some people still called the country Abyssinia. In certain countries far beyond Ethiopia's borders, segregation and apartheid were long established and little questioned. Most other African "nations" were colonies. Even at home, slavery was technically still legal.

In such an era, words like "pan-Africanism" and "civil rights" were little more than esoteric philosophical notions entertained by an enlightened few. That a country as backward as Italy, whose widespread poverty prompted the emigration of millions, would seek to devour a nation like Ethiopia, was an irony too subtle to raise eyebrows outside the most sophisticated intellectual circles. With British backing, Haile Selassie returned to defeat the Italian army which, in the event, the Allies never viewed as much more than a nuisance. The British themselves considered the Ethiopian campaign in its strategic context --as a way to free the Red Sea from possible Axis control-- as much as the liberation of a sovereign nation. To the Ethiopians, it was as much a moral victory as a military one.

..

..

The Emperor's speech to the League of Nations denouncing the Italian invasion is remembered more than the aggression itself. It prompted essentially ineffectual international trade sanctions against a European nation but, like the Battle of Adwa four decades earlier, represented in a tangible way one of the few occasions in the modern era that an African nation defied the arrogance of a European one.

There were very few world leaders of the post-war era who had actually led troops in combat. Haile Selassie and Dwight Eisenhower were exceptional in this respect, which partially accounts for their close friendship.

Even when the foe is truly formidable, courage has a psychological side that has little to do with combat or physical victory. One may seem defeated materially without being defeated morally. Perhaps it's a question of confidence, values or knowledge. Haile Selassie's greatest strength was as a builder of bridges --across rivers but also between cultures. His travels took him to many countries, and he became one of the most popular heads of state, and one of the most decorated men in the world.

It was during one such voyage, in 1960, that he had to rush home to confront an attempted overthrow of the existing order. This perhaps served as a reminder that the most dangerous revolutions are found in one's own house. The sovereign who was once known as a reformer now found himself resented by many members of the very social class his economic and educational policies had helped to create. Internationally, however, his prestige did not suffer. The Emperor established the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, with a headquarters in Addis Ababa.

..

..

The revolution of 1974 was supported by outside forces, and while its roots were domestic, its covert objectives cannot be said to have been supported by more than a small fraction of Ethiopians. Truth be told, administrative practices which worked well in 1950 were terribly inefficient by the 1970s, and a series of problems were cited as a pretext for a full scale coup d'etat. Ethiopia's pre-industrial economy was no better prepared for Marxism than Russia's had been in 1917. Communism's ultimate social and economic failure, in Ethiopia as well as in Russia, certainly indicates democracy's superiority, whether that democracy is embodied by a republic or a constitutional monarchy. The Derg's alliance with the Soviet Union made Ethiopia the instrument of a foreign power, precisely the thing Haile Selassie resisted.

He had a Solomonic pedigree, but Haile Selassie was a man of the people. Perhaps that's how he should be remembered.

The Rastafari Messiah

Today Haile Selassie is worshipped as the living God incarnate among followers of the Rastafari movement (taken from Haile Selassie's pre-imperial name Ras - meaning Prince - Tafari Makkonen), which emerged in Jamaica during the 1930s under the influence of Marcus Garvey's "Pan Africanism" movement, and as the Black Messiah who will lead the peoples of Africa and the African diaspora to freedom.[49] His official titles, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, King of Kings and Elect of God, and his traditional lineage from Solomon and Sheba,[50] are perceived by Rastafarians as confirmation of the return of the Messiah in the prophetic Book of Revelation in the New Testament: King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah and Root of David. Rastafari faith in the incarnate divinity of Haile Selassie[51] began after news reports of his coronation reached Jamaica,[52] particularly via the two Time magazine articles on the coronation the week before and the week after the event. Haile Selassie's own perspectives permeate the philosophy of the movement.[52][53]

In 1961, the Jamaican government sent a delegation composed of both Rastafarian and non-Rastafarian leaders to Ethiopia to discuss the matter of repatriation, among other issues, with the Emperor. He reportedly told the Rastafarian delegation, which included Mortimer Planno, "Tell the Brethren to be not dismayed, I personally will give my assistance in the matter of repatriation."

....

When Haile Selassie visited Jamaica on 21 April 1966, somewhere around one hundred thousand Rastafari from all over Jamaica descended on Palisadoes Airport in Kingston, having heard that the man whom they considered to be God was coming to visit them. Spliffs and chalices  were openly  smoked, causing "a haze of ganja smoke" to drift through the air. When Haile Selassie arrived at the airport, he was unable to come down the mobile steps of the airplane, as the crowd rushed the tarmac. He then returned into the plane, disappearing for several more minutes. Finally Jamaican authorities were obliged to request Ras Mortimer Planno, a well-known Rasta leader, to climb the steps, enter the plane, and negotiate the Emperor's descent. When Planno reemerged, he announced to the crowd: "The Emperor has instructed me to tell you to be calm. Step back and let the Emperor land". This day, widely held by scholars to be a major turning point for the movement, is still commemorated by Rastafarians as Grounation Day, the anniversary of which is celebrated as the second holiest holiday after November 2, the Emperor's Coronation Day.

..

From then on, as a result of Planno's actions, the Jamaican authorities were asked to ensure that Rastafarian representatives were present at all state functions attended by His Majesty, and Rastafarian elders also ensured that they obtained a private audience with the Emperor, where he reportedly told them that they should not emigrate to Ethiopia until they had first liberated the people of Jamaica. This dictum came to be known as "liberation before repatriation".

Defying expectations of the Jamaican authorities, Selassie never rebuked the Rastafari for their belief in him as the returned Jesus. Instead, he presented the movement's faithful elders with gold medallions - the only recipients of such an honor on this visit. During PNP leader (later Jamaican Prime Minister) Michael Manley's visit to Ethiopia in October 1969, the Emperor allegedly still recalled his 1966 reception with amazement, and stated that he felt he had to be respectful of their beliefs. This was the visit when Manley received as a present from the Emperor, the infamous "Rod of Correction" or "Rod of Joshua" that is thought to have greatly helped him to win the 1972 election in Jamaica.

Rita Marley, Bob Marley's wife, converted to the Rastafari faith after seeing Haile Selassie on his Jamaican trip. She claimed, in interviews and in her book No Woman, No Cry that she saw a stigmata print on the palm of Haile Selassie's hand (as he waved to the crowd) that resembled the envisioned markings on Christ's hands from being nailed to the cross-a claim that was not supported by other sources, but was used as evidence for her and other Rastafarians to suggest that Haile Selassie I was indeed their messiah. She also converted Bob Marley, who then became internationally recognized, and as a result Rastafari became much better known throughout much of the world.

Haile Selassie's attitude to the Rastafari

Haile Selassie I was the titular head of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and, until his visit to Jamaica in 1966, he had never confirmed nor denied that he was divine. During his visit he specifically declined to refute the Rastafari belief that he was God. After his return to Ethiopia, he dispatched Archbishop Abuna Yesehaq Mandefro to the Caribbean to help draw Rastafarians and other West Indians to the Ethiopian church and, according to some sources, denied his divinity. In 1948, Haile Selassie donated a piece of land at Shashamane, 250 km south of Addis Ababa, for the use of Blacks from the West Indies. Numerous Rastafari families settled there and there is a community there to this day.

Haile Selassie claims lineage to the legandary

Solomon of the Bible and Hebrew nation, and Makeda/Bilqis (Queen) of Sheba (see earlier profile)

Happy Black History Month

We hope we have inspired and educated you with this series of blogs and e-mails.

If you don't know who you are or where you come from you are lost.

You then have to rely on others to tell you who you are and where you come from.

The ills of our community (black on black crime, disunity, economic stagnation and moral and spiritual decline can be directly related to a lack of knowledge of self and a self inferiority complex that is born out of a self image and history that is given to us by our enemies and oppressors.

We have not helped. We are not making efforts to learn anything to undue this we are comfortable with nothing and knowing nothing.

If I am wrong why haven't you heard of Candace or Yaa Asantewaa

In honoring the incredible creation know as Black Woman we give you our next two

profiles.

Alexander reached Kemet (Ancient Egypt) in 332 B.C., on his world conquering rampage. But one of the greatest generals of the ancient world was also the Empress of Ethiopia. This formidable black Queen Candace, was world famous as a military tactician and field commander. Legend has it that Alexander could not entertain even the possibilty of having his world fame and unbroken chain of victories marred by risking a defeat, at last, by a woman. He halted his armies at the borders of Ethiopia and did not invade to meet the waiting black armies with their Queen in personal command.

African Queens: Candace - Empress of Ethiopia (332 B.C.)

How many of us have heard the name Candace.

It is a common name for a female in America today.

Etymology

The modern name Candace is a Latinized version of the Greek Kandake, which comes from the name of the Kushite female rulers. This in turn originates from the Greek interpretation of the Cushitic kdke pronounced as Kadake.

According to the Grimm rule of consonants in English

the C and K are interchangable

CandaCe   KandaKe (wow!!)

Kandake or Kentake was the title for female rulers of the ancient African state of Kush. The capital region of the Kushite empire was centered in Sudan, but the empire extended all through Africa and including Egypt. They formed a series of Nubian warrior queens, queens regnant, and queen mothers that ruled Kush in an unbroken line for over one thousand years. At an earlier period, men had ruled or shared rule with them. By the time of Emperor Augustus, documented accounts of solitary female rulers had emerged.

The Romans met several queens of Meroë whom they thought were named "Kandake" (KAN-DA-key). They did not realize that "Kandake" was simply the Meroitic title meaning "Queen" or "Mother of the crown prince". Our modern female name Candace (now pronounced Kan-das) comes from this ancient Nubian royal title.

The Kushites gave special honor to their queens because they believed that the kings, who were sons of these women, were also sons of the great god Amun. In other words, they imagined that these ladies were actually wives of the god and mothers of the living gods (the kings). If a king died, his wife might rule alone while her son was growing up. The people would worship her like a goddess.

When the Romans went to war against Kush in 24 BCE, they reported that the Kushite army was led by a "Candace" who was "a very masculine sort of woman and blind in one eye." We can understand this strange description when we see how the artists represented the queens. They were massive, powerful women, covered with jewels and elaborate fringed and tasseled robes. They often appear carrying weapons in one hand, preparing to kill bunches of small enemy figures which they hold in the other.
The kandake operated in political, military, religious capacities. She shared power with another female, usually older, who held the title of Qore. The Qore (also written "Gore") was in charge of protocol and managed the royal house, but was not in charge of affairs of state due to her divine status. the position of Qore corresponds with that of "queen mother" or dowager. A qore did not handle state affairs directly.

Sometimes the kandake shared power with a subordinate king whose title was Lo (also "Ro"). The kings usually incorporated the title "Ro" in their name. One such king was named Amanislo.

Warrior Queens

The kandake functioned as commander-in-chief of the Kushite army and led soldiers into battle. Accounts of victories by two of these warrior queens can be found in the conflicts at Meroë between Kush and powerful armies of the day, first over the Greek army led by Alexander the Great [1] and later, as reported by Strabo, over the army of the Roman Empire under Augustus. [2]

Religious Powers

The kandake also served as high priestess of Isis, one of the many deities Kushites had adopted from their Egyptian neighbors to the north. In their capacity as high priestess of Isis, the kandakes had spiritual authority well beyond the borders of Kush, extending to wherever Isis was worshipped, especially in Egypt.

Kandakes of Kush

Unfortunately in our history particulary in America the women of our community have had to lead the men in doing what must be done. Some men were to cowardly to even take the lead in war to fight back enemies and invaders.

This leads us in to our next profile..................

"In Africa the woman's `place' was not only with her family; she often ruled nations with unquestionable authority.  Many African women were great militarists and on occasion led their armies in battle.  Long before they knew of the existence of Europe the Africans had produced a way of life where men were secure enough to let women advance as far as their talent would take them."
--John Henrik Clarke

Near the end of the nineteenth century, the British exiled King Prempeh from the hinterlands of the Gold Coast (present day Ghana), in an attempt to assume power.  By 1900, still not gaining dominance, the British sent a governor to the city of Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti, to demand the Golden Stool, described as "the Ark of the Covenant of the Ashanti people."  The Golden Stool was the supreme symbol of the sovereignty and independence of the Ashantis--an aggressive and warlike people who inhabit the dense rain forests of what is now the central portion of Ghana, West Africa.

YAA ASANTEWA
Yaa Asantewa of the Ashanti Empire

The story of Yaa Asantewa of the Ashanti is one of inspiration to some and controversy to others. Close to the end of the 19th century, the British attempted to colonize the Gold Coast, now known as Ghana. This region was inhabited by the ethnic society known as the Ashanti. Ironically enough the Ashanti are included among those African societies who participated in the slave trade. Though they did not prosper as greatly as nations such as Dahomey, they did manage to keep their power due to the traffic in human bodies. With the close of the slave trade the Ashanti, like so many other African societies who had participated in the trade, found themselves at a disadvantage. Many had invested themselves so fully in the business of slaving that with its end they were left with no other form of export. What was worse, slave trading had caused such a drain on resources, basic demands such as agriculture and cloth manufacturing had been neglected or completely forgotten altogether. Severely weakened, one by one they found themselves the new targets of their old European allies.

The British began by exiling the Ashanti's King Premph in 1896. When this did not succeed in breaking the peoples' spirit they demanded the supreme symbol of the Ashanti people: the Golden Stool. On March 28, 1900, the British Governor called a meeting of all the kings in and around the Ashanti city of Kumasi and ordered them to surrender the Golden Stool.

Deeply insulted the Ashanit showed no outward reaction. Silently, they left the meeting and went home to prepare for war.

.. Table Tag --> ..> ..> ..>..>
Nana (Queen-Mother) Yaa Asantewaa became the motivating force behind the Ashanti. When she saw that some of the chiefs were afraid to make war against the British she stood and made a stirring and stinging speech. She is quoted as stating,

"Is it true that the bravery of the Ashanti is no more?...if you men of Ashanti will not go forward, then we will. We the women will. I shall call upon my fellow women. We will fight the white men. We will fight till the last of us falls in the battlefields."

The speech so moved the chiefs that at once they swore the Great Oath of Ashanti to fight the British until the Asantehene King Premph was set free from his exile.

..

..> ..> ..>..>
Yaa Asantewaa moved quickly, cutting telegraph wires and blocking routes to and from Kumasi where the British had a fort. For several months the Queen Mother led the Ashanti in battle, keeping the British pinned down. After sending 1400 soldiers to put down the rebellion, the British captured Yaa Asantewaa and other Ashanti leaders; all were exiled. Pictured is an artist's recreation of Yaa Asantewaa, who died in 1923 far from her homeland, and an actual photograph of the legendary Golden Stool. Though at times mired in controversy, the actions and names of this most "unordinary freedom fighter" is still remembered by those who refer to one of the last great battles for Ashanti independence as, Nana Yaa Asantewaa's War. What about you

Will you stand and fight like Yaa Asantewaa?
Will you force Alexander the Great or any invader to think twice and flee as you prepare to fight.

More next time
God willing

I am practically seething with all of the black people, especially so
called 'intelligent', 'educated',  black people giving a million tired
excuses of why they won't vote for Barack Obama and will vote for Hillary
Clinton:

1. He's not ready/He's not experienced.
Man please. You have the top 3 Democratic candidates with 1 Senate term
under their belt. Hillary as the First Lady as experienced? Not one
executive decision is made being as the first lady. That's like Stedman
recommending a book, endorsing a candidate, or having his own show...SO
WHAT.

2. White America is not ready for a Black president.
Whaaat? Was White America ready for slavery to end? Giving us the right to
vote? Desegregation of our society? When did black people ever let white
people dictate when and where we were getting our just due, our break?
We've always stepped up and demanded what we wanted, or we were either
hitting the streets and tearin' up some stuff, escapin', marching, or
picketing. White America is ready for a Black President because Barack
Obama is the right man for President, PERIOD.
Besides, that never stopped anyone from voting for Jesse Jackson, a man
with NO political experience AT ALL from almost snatching the Democratic
nomination in 1984, and coming darn close again in 1988 20 YEARS AGO.

3. Barack is half black and half white, so he's not really black anyway.
I should back smack anyone who has ever thought that. Ever heard of the one
drop rule? It has not only been a social standard for WHO is black, but it
also upheld the constitution in keeping us from suing a white person over
personal property. No black person ever refers to another black person as
'biracial'. You black. You might have another heritage in your lineage, but
this country as well as any other sees you as black, PERIOD. Lame excuse
people.

4. I don't know what issues Barack stands for.
When the heck has that ever prevented black folk from voting for a black
candidate, really? I guess now, but the main people saying that couldn't
tell you anything about Hillary's or John Edwards platform either. Please
stop fronting.

5. All he did was give that one speech.
How many great people have defined their lives, the scope of human history,
and changed the world in a speech? Moses, Jesus, Paul, Martin Luther,
Frederick Douglas, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Winston
Churchill, Martin Luther King, Jr., John F. Kennedy, Malcolm X, Ronald
Reagan, Nelson Mandela, Jesse Jackson, and Jim Valvano all have changed the
course of history of the world and the hearts of billions of men and women
in societies since the beginning of time with a speech.
That is the purpose of a rally. A person speaks, and it prepares all to act
in relation to the spirit of what is spoken. That is why we go to church,
not to just hear our pastor blather, but to refresh God in our hearts and
spurn us to take up God's will in our lives.
So save all that ying-yang about that speech.

6. If all of those white people are supporting him, he must be in their
back pocket.
Save the conspiracy theory home skillet. He's liked because he comes at a
time where a person that looks exactly like them lied to their face (two in
a row, if you include Bill Clinton with Monica and of course Bush with ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Iraq
), and flat out said what no politician would admit: We have two Americas,
blue and red, black and white. It was not publicly said, and on top of that
proposed that we ACTUALLY DO something about it, not find more ways to be
divided and not come together despite our differences. Noble concept, and
one to be championed. That's JFK, FDR, and Abe Lincoln material. So they
were feeling it, just like I was and you should too. His legislative work
has been indicative of this as well, including his Fuel Standard work with
President Bush. Check the resume, it shines.

THE REAL REASON BLACK PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO VOTE FOR OBAMA IS THAT THEY ARE
AFRAID THAT HE'LL WIN, AND:

1.WE'LL HAVE NO MORE EXCUSES LEFT.
We won't be able to say, ' America is racist', 'I cannot get a break
because I'm black', and all other random excuses many blacks make for not
achieving anything in their lives.

2. IF SOCIETY IS LEFT UNCHANGED AFTER HIS PRESIDENCY WE'LL LOSE HOPE.
If a black man becomes President, I honestly believe many black people feel
that all of the world's problems should come to an end. No more crack
selling, no more black on black crime, no more baby mama drama and dead
beat daddies, no more people on welfare and on the chow line, no more
winos, no more police brutality, no more DWB, no more predatory loans, no
more ghettos, no more racism period, no more Middle East unrest, just
everybody singing Kumbaya. To some degree, I think a lot of white people,
especially liberal, feel that way too, that's why they are all up on him
like that.
THAT'S RIDICULOUS. If it happened, he'd be one of the greatest people that
ever lived, but that's way too much pressure to put on one man. DANG! I
feel that people are really not ready for the world to get better anyway.
It's like that father you never knew but won't make a relationship with
because you don't want to be let down. It's unfair and let that go. Barack
will make a great President, but he won't solve all of the world's
problems, nor can he solve all of black peoples' problems either.

3. SO CALLED 'EDUCATED' BLACK PEOPLE WON'T BE SO SPECIAL ANYMORE BECAUSE
THE PLAYING FIELD WILL BE LEVELED.
Absolutely hate more than anything else. The above 2 reasons were largely a
poor disadvantaged black person's inner fear about Barack. Many of number 2
and all of this one is specifically tailored to you bourgeois folks that
actually like being the only black person (or one of a very few) in your
medical school, your law school, your master's program, your Ph.D. program,
your high fallutin' Fortune 500 Company, your faculty at your prestigious
institution.
You feel deep inside being a talented 10th will become a talented
population. As much as you detest and look down at your disadvantaged
brothers and sisters, and claim they need to 'get a job', 'get an
education', 'pull themselves up from their own bootstraps', and 'stop being
so ignorant', you like them where they are. You are the one that has that
shady feeling in your belly when a new black person is hired because you
don't want them to screw it up for you. Yeah you...I'm talkin' about you.
You know who you are. You think deep inside the Keishas, Darnells, and Shequans
are going to get theirs now that Barack is in office, and you won't be so
special anymore.
See you like racism. You probably are like Clarence Thomas, the man that
benefited from Affirmative Action but now you got yours, nobody else can
get in too, so you vote against Affirmative Action. Yeah, claim you got
your opportunity on merit. No, you got it on the backs of our ancestors
that had to fight for you to get that job. Now you don't want a world where
everyone has an equal opportunity. Well actually neither do poor blacks
either, see 1.

3. IF HE MESSES IT UP, WE'RE ALL SCREWED.
Back in the day blacks with degrees could do nothing but shine shoes
outside the company. Now we're in them, making decisions, even CEOs like my
man Stanley O'Neal, the first black American to take the helm of a major
Wall Street firm. That brother completely mismanaged the company, like many
others who mismanaged banks and cause losing equity because of security
back sub prime loans. Now, those that are in the know are afraid that a
black man cannot ever get that opportunity to be THE MAN at a major
institution again.
Not only that, if Barack messes it up, there will be a backlash on all of
black America. 'You guys had your chance to run the free world, and you
blew it'.
Sorry Charlie, Barack is one man. You can't use the logic for yourself as
far as getting ahead, but lose it for this man. George Bush completely
botched America's standing in the world, but I don't see anyone afraid to
elect another white man. So come off of it.

4. BLACK WOMEN FEEL SORRY FOR HILLARY BEING CHEATED ON BY THE REAL FIRST
BLACK PRESIDENT.
This is so dumb, I cannot address with words, but it's the truth for a lot
of black people, who felt Bill was the first Black President, and sistas
especially would feel like they were vindicating a woman that was done
wrong by anotha brotha.

5. BLACKS LIKE TO BE DIFFERENT FROM WHITES AND BARAK WILL BREAK DOWN
BARRIERS WE LIKE HAVING UP.
Keep it real people. You hate it when anything we do gets imitated. It is
instantly uncoil. Most blacks love that we have our own thing, our own
culture. Having Barack win means for a lot of people America will have more
of a shared consciousness. We'll actually have to come together and squash
some beef to make this country cooperative. I don't completely believe this
concept, but I'm down for it. Once again, Black people really do like
racism.

For all of you doubters out there this is what you really need to ask
yourselves:
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we
are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? We were born
to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. And as we let our own
light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

That's all the brotha is trying to do. So vote for him, drop the excuses,
and support the first viable Black Candidate. Our ancestors demand that we
do so.

For many thousands of years the African woman has been worshipped, revered and idolized by individuals, families and nations--not only in Africa but around the world. Ancient records show her as queen, goddess, scholar, diplomatic, scientist, icon, prophet and freedom fighting warrior exalted with and sometimes above her father, husband and brothers.

The African woman has administered great and mighty nations, led determined and capable armies into battle and founded splendid and enduring royal dynasties. Indeed, no other human of any racial or ethnic type has been so widely venerated as has the African woman.

So I will not go any further with our Black History journey before we spotlight a great Black Woman.

We can go nowhere without her and they (contrary to popular belief) are not our enemies. Actually they are our greatest love.

So with that we spotlight the most Arcane of  Black History figures...................

MAKEDA

QUEEN OF SHEBA (The symbol of Beauty) (960 B.C.)

"I am black but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, As the tents of Kedar, As the curtains of Solomon, Look not upon me because I am black Because the sun hath scorched me." (Song of Solomon)

Although most of Black history is suppressed, distorted or ignored by an ungrateful modern world, some African traditions are so persistent that all of the power and deception of the Western academic establishment have failed to stamp them out. One such story is that of Makeda, the Queen of Sheba, and King Solomon of Israel. Black women of antiquity were legendary for their beauty and power. Especially great were the Queens of Ethiopia. This nation was also known as Nubia, Kush, Axum and Sheba. One thousand years before Christ, Ethiopia was ruled by a line of virgin queens. The one whose story has survived into our time was known as Makeda, "the Queen of Sheba." Her remarkable tradition was recorded in the Kebar Nagast, or the Glory of Kings, and the Bible. The Bible tells us that, during his reign, King Solomon of Israel decided to build a magnificent temple. To announce this endeavor, the king sent forth messengers to various foreign countries to invite merchants from abroad to come to Jerusalem with their caravans so that they might engage in trade there. At this time, Ethiopia was second only to Egypt in power and fame. Hence, King Solomon was enthralled by Ethiopia's beautiful people, rich history, deep spiritual tradition and wealth. He was especially interested in engaging in commerce with one of Queen Makeda's subjects, an important merchant by the name of Tamrin.1 Solomon sent for Tamrin who "packed up stores of valuables including ebony, sapphires and red gold, which he took to Jerusalem to sell to the king."2

..

It turns out that Tamrin's visit was momentous. Although accustomed to the grandeur and luxury of Egypt and Ethiopia, Tamrin was still impressed by King Solomon and his young nation. During a prolonged stay in Israel, Tamrin observed the magnificent buildings and was intrigued by the Hebrew people and their culture. But above all else, he was deeply moved by Solomon's wisdom and compassion for his subjects. Upon returning to his country, Tamrin poured forth elaborate details about his trip to Queen Makeda. She was so impressed by the exciting story that the great queen decided to visit King Solomon herself.3 To understand the significance of state visits in antiquity in contrast to those of today, we must completely remove ourselves from the present place and time. In ancient times, royal visits were very significant ceremonial affairs. The visiting regent was expected to favor the host with elaborate gifts and the state visit might well last for weeks or even months. Even by ancient standards, however, Queen Makeda's visit to King Solomon was extraordinary. In I Kings 10:1-2, the Bible tells us: "1. And when the Queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the Lord, she came to prove him with hard questions. "2. And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bear spices and very much gold, and precious stones. And when she was come to Solomon she communed with him of all that was in her heart." I Kings 10:10 adds: "She gave the king 120 talents of gold, and of spices very great store and precious stones; there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the Queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon." We should pause to consider the staggering sight of this beautiful Black woman and her vast array of resplendent attendants traveling over the Sahara desert into Israel with more than 797 camels plus donkeys and mules too numerous to count. The value of the gold alone, which she gave to King Solomon, would be $3,690,000 today and was of much greater worth in antiquity. King Solomon, and undoubtedly the Hebrew people, were flabbergasted by this great woman and her people. He took great pains to accommodate her every need. A special apartment was built for her lodging while she remained in his country. She was also provided with the best of food and eleven changes of garments daily. As so many African leaders before her, this young maiden, though impressed with the beauty of Solomon's temple and his thriving domain, had come to Israel seeking wisdom and the truth about the God of the Hebrew people. Responding to her quest for knowledge, Solomon had a throne set up for the queen beside his. "It was covered with silken carpets, adorned with fringes of gold and silver, and studded with diamonds and pearls. From this she listened while he delivered judgments."4 Queen Makeda also accompanied Solomon throughout his kingdom. She observed the wise, compassionate and spiritual ruler as he interacted with his subjects in everyday affairs. Speaking of the value of her visit with the King and her administration for him, Queen Makeda stated: "My Lord, how happy I am. Would that I could remain here always, if but as the humblest of your workers, so that I could always hear your words and obey you.

..

"How happy I am when I interrogate you! How happy when you answer me. My whole being is moved with pleasure; my soul is filled; my feet no longer stumble; I thrill with delight.

"Your wisdom and goodness," she continued, "are beyond all measure. They are excellence itself. Under your influence I am placing new values on life. I see light in the darkness; the firefly in the garden reveals itself in newer beauty. I discover added luster in the pearl; a greater radiance in the morning star, and a softer harmony in the moonlight. Blessed be the God that brought me here; blessed be He who permitted your majestic mind to be revealed to me; blessed be the One who brought me into your house to hear your voice.

Solomon had a harem of over 700 wives and concubines, yet, he was enamored by the young Black virgin from Ethiopia. Although he held elaborate banquets in her honor and wined, dined and otherwise entertained her during the length of her visit, they both knew that, according to Ethiopian tradition, the Queen must remain chaste. Nevertheless, the King wished to plant his seed in Makeda, so that he might have a son from her regal African lineage. To this end the shrewd king conspired to conquer the affection of this young queen with whom he had fallen in love. When, after six months in Israel, Queen Makeda announced to King Solomon that she was ready to return to Ethiopia, he invited her to a magnificent farewell dinner at his palace. The meal lasted for several hours and featured hot, spicy foods that were certain to make all who ate thirsty and sleepy (as King Solomon had planned.) Since the meal ended very late, the king invited Queen Makeda to stay overnight in the palace in his quarters. She agreed as long as they would sleep in separate beds and the king would not seek to take advantage of her. He vowed to honor her chastity, but also requested that she not take anything in the palace. Outraged by such a suggestion, the Queen protested that she was not a thief and then promised as requested. Not long after the encounter, the Queen, dying of thirst, searched the palace for water. Once she found a large water jar and proceeded to drink, the King startled her by stating: "You have broken your oath that you would not take anything by force that is in my palace. The Queen protested, of course, that surely the promise did not cover something so insignificant and plentiful as water, but Solomon argued that there was nothing in the world more valuable than water, for without it nothing could live. Makeda reluctantly admitted the truth of this and apologized for her mistake, begging for water for her parched throat. Solomon, now released from his promise, assuaged her thirst and his own, immediately taking the Queen as his lover."6 The following day as the Queen and her entourage prepared to leave Israel, the King placed a ring on her hand and stated, "If you have a son, give this to him and send him to me." After returning to the land of Sheba, Queen Makeda did indeed have a son, whom she named Son-of-the-wise-man, and reared as a prince and her heir apparent to the throne. Upon reaching adulthood, the young man wished to visit his father, so the Queen prepared another entourage, this time headed by Tamrin. She sent a message to Solomon to anoint their son as king of Ethiopia and to mandate that thenceforth only the males descended from their son should rule Sheba. Solomon and the Hebrew people rejoiced when his son arrived in Israel. The king anointed him as the Queen had requested and renamed him Menelik, meaning "how handsome he is." Though Solomon had many wives, only one had produced a son, Rehoboam, a boy of seven. So the king begged Menelik to remain, but the young prince would not. Solomon therefore called his leaders and nobles and announced that, since he was sending his first born son back to Ethiopia, he wanted all of them to send their firstborn sons "to be his counselors and officers." And they agreed to do so. Menelik asked his father for a relic of the Ark of the Covenant to take back with him to the land of Sheba. It is said that while Solomon intended to provide his son with a relic, the sons of the counselors, angry at having to leave their homes and go to Sheba with Menelik, actually stole the real Ark and took it to Ethiopia. Menelik returned to Sheba and, according to tradition, ruled wisely and well. And his famous line has continued down to the 20th century when, even now, the ruler of Ethiopia is the "conquering lion of Judah" descended directly from King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba.

Did this Arcane Queen ever really exist?

..

..

The Queen of Sheba (Hebrew ???? ??? Malkat Shva, Arabic ???? ??? Malikat saba--, Ge'ezNigista Saba), referred to in the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament, the Qur'an, and Ethiopian history, was the ruler of the ancient kingdom of Sheba. The actual location of the historical kingdom is disputed between Ethiopia and Yemen.

Known to the Ethiopian people as Makeda (Ge'ez: m--kid--, which, in Ethiopic languages, means "pillow"), she has been called a variety of names by different peoples in different times. In Islamic tradition she was Bilqis.

The Queen of Sheba is mentioned as the "Queen of the South" in the Matthew 12:42 and Luke 11:31 in the New Testament, where Jesus indicates that she and the Ninevites will judge the generation of Jesus' contemporaries who rejected him.

Christian interpretations of the Queen of Sheba scriptures in the Hebrew Bible typically have emphasized both the historical and metaphorical values in the story. The account of the Queen of Sheba can be interpreted as Christian metaphor and analogy. The Queen's visit to Solomon has been compared to the metaphorical marriage of the Believers(woman) to Christ(man) where Solomon is the anointed one or messiah and Sheba represents the population submitting to the messiah.

The Queen of Sheba's chastity has also been depicted as a foreshadowing of the Virgin Mary, Solomon (Son of man) and the three gifts that she brought (gold, spices and stones) have been seen as analogous to the gifts of the Magi (gold, frankincense and myrrh), which is consistent with a passage from Isaiah 60:6; And they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring forth gold and incense; and they shall show forth the praises of the Lord.

Ain't that Arcane

Ain't you glad you went this far

More willing

God willing

Celebrate Black History Month with Arcane Entertainment

I had no idea how much a response I would get on the Hannibal of Carthage piece.

Most of it was positive feedback

but positive or negative I hope everyone learned something. I sure did.

I forgot to mention that two movies are due out about this great man.

One starring Denzel Washington and another starring Vin Diesel

This will further fuel the raging debate as to whether Hannibal was mixed, black or white.

Some people assert "what does it matter". I hear that all the time whenever someone points out that

Jesus was black.

To that I say (as with Jesus) if it doesn't matter (and it doesn't) then leave him as he is.

Don't change, lie about, or misrepresent either of them to me (over and over) and when I

request that you stop changing the image then you say "It doesn't matter"

And now for our next Arcane spotlight

The Brilliant
Toussaint L'ouverture

The Slave Who Defeated Napoleon

Napoleon was one of the greatest generals who ever lived. But at the end of the 18th century a self-educated slave with no military training drove Napoleon out of Haiti and led his country to independence. The remarkable leader of this slave revolt was Toussaint Breda (later called Toussaint L'Ouverture, and sometimes the "black Napoleon"). Slave revolts from this time normally ended in executions and failure – this story is the exception.

Arcane History

Toussaint's true life story is a enigma, the details lost, disputed, or never recorded. Indeed, even in life, Toussaint cultivated an air of mystery, the better to keep his allies on their toes and his enemies off their guard. Simplistic descriptions of his motivations or desires never seem to do the man justice, as his aims seemed to evolve along with a rapidly changing political situation. True to his chosen name, he continued throughout his life to find openings to advance the cause of the citizens of Saint-Domingue. He never, it seems, beat a straight course, but tacked back and forth to use the currents of history to his advantage.

It began in 1791 in the French colony of Saint Dominique (later Haiti). Though born a slave in Saint Dominique, Toussaint learned of Africa from his father, who had been born a free man there. He learned that he was more than a slave, that he was a man with brains and dignity. He was fortunate in having a liberal master who had him trained as a house servant and allowed him to learn to read and write. Toussaint took full advantage of this, reading every book he could get his hands on. He particularly admired the writings of the French Enlightenment philosophers, who spoke of individual rights and equality.

In 1789 the French Revolution rocked France. The sugar plantations of Saint Dominique, though far away, would never be the same. Spurred on by such Enlightenment thinkers as Jean-Jacques Rousseau, the early moderate revolutionaries considered seriously the question of slavery. Those moderate revolutionaries were not willing to end slavery but they did apply the "Rights of Man" to all Frenchmen, including free blacks and mulattoes (those of mixed race). Plantation owners in the colonies were furious and fought the measure. Finally the revolutionaries gave in and retracted the measure in 1791.

The news of this betrayal triggered mass slave revolts in Saint Dominique, and Toussaint became the leader of the slave rebellion. He became known as Toussaint L'Ouverture (the one who finds an opening) and brilliantly led his rag-tag slave army. He successfully fought the French (who helped by succumbing to yellow fever in large numbers) as well as invading Spanish and British.

By 1793, the revolution in France was in the hands of the Jacobins, the most radical of the revolutionary groups. This group, led by Maximilian Robespierre, was responsible for the Reign of Terror, a campaign to rid France of "enemies of the revolution." Though the Jacobins brought indiscriminate death to France, they were also idealists who wanted to take the revolution as far as it could go. So they again considered the issue of "equality" and voted to end slavery in the French colonies, including what was now known as Haiti.

There was jubilation among the blacks in Haiti, and Toussaint agreed to help the French army eject the British and Spanish. Toussaint proved to be a brilliant general, winning 7 battles in 7 days. He became a defacto governor of the colony.

In France the Jacobins lost power. People finally tired of blood flowing in the streets and sent Maximilian Robespierre, the leader of the Jacobins, to the guillotine, ending the Reign of Terror. A reaction set in. The French people wanted to get back to business. More moderate leaders came and went, eventually replaced by Napoleon, who ruled France with dictatorial powers. He responded to the pleas of the plantation owners by reinstating slavery in the French colonies, once again plunging Haiti into war.

By 1803 Napoleon was ready to get Haiti off his back: he and Toussaint agreed to terms of peace. Napoleon agreed to recognize Haitian independence and Toussaint agreed to retire from public life. A few months later, the French invited Toussaint to come to a negotiating meeting will full safe conduct. When he arrived, the French (at Napoleon's orders) betrayed the safe conduct and arrested him, putting him on a ship headed for France. Napoleon ordered that Toussaint be placed in a prison dungeon in the mountains, and murdered by means of cold, starvation, and neglect. Toussaint died in prison, but others carried on the fight for freedom.

Six months later, Napoleon decided to give up his possessions in the New World. He was busy in Europe and these far-away possessions were more trouble than they were worth. He abandoned Haiti to independence and sold the French territory in North America to the United States (the Louisiana purchase).

Years later, in exile at St. Helena, when asked about his dishonorable treatment of Toussaint, Napoleon merely remarked, "What could the death of one wretched Negro mean to me?" (sour grapes!!!)

What others said about this awesome man

"[T]he Spanish Marquis d'Hermona declared, in the hyperbole of admiration, that "if the Supreme had descended on earth, he could not inhabit a heart more apparently good, than that of Toussaint L'Ouverture." (Rainsford)

  • "The role which the great Negro Toussaint, called L'Ouverture, played in the history of the United States has seldom been fully appreciated. Representing the age of revolution in America, he rose to leadership through a bloody terror, which contrived a Negro "problem" for the Western hemisphere, intensified and defined the anti-slavery movement, became one of the causes, and probably the prime one, which led Napoleon to sell Louisiana for a song; and, finally, through the interworking of all these effects, rendered more certain the final prohibition of the slave-trade by the United States in 1807" (Du Bois, p. 70).
  • "Without military knowledge he fought like one born in the camp. Without means he carried on the war. He beat his enemies in battle, and turned their own weapons against them. He laid the foundation for the emancipation of his race and the independence of the island." (Wells Brown p. 104)
To this day Haiti is the victim of bad press and a very bad image. The name alone invokes images of
poverty, dispair, and poor government.
The west has allowed or caused Haiti to remain in this condition and furthered this image in the press.
I for one can't help but wonder if our Caribbean Hero could be the very start of all the hate.

More next time
God willing

Happy Black History Month

I along with Arcane Entertainment and Management
would like to wish everyone a happy and educational
Black History Month

We will be posting a series of various different Black History figures
to enlighten and educate ourselves and others on the
glorious history of black people around the world.

First let me express 2 things

This is not nor will it ever be "African-American" history
That would be the history of people who descend from Africa
and were brought to America (North America, The Caribbean, Central, and South America).

That history is glorious but

that is a small stitch in time for this people

besides the term African-American is wack and doesn't accurately distinguish
between the descendants of former slaves and those immigrant Africans children born in
America. (Who calls themselves that in conversation.

So don't expect any token profiles
of Dr. Martin Luther King, Harriett Tubman, Mary McCloud Bethune, or
the great George Washington Carver.

All great worthy icons, but
we all know about them or should know by now
and these are limited only to our sojourn in America

The Arcane way is to dig and uncover what lies beneath!

What is hidden and known only to a few.

and with that being said let's start with a very controversial figure

Hannibal of Carthage

....(artist rendering and not actual picture)

Hannibal
Ruler of Carthage
(247 - 183 B.C.)

Regarded as one of the greatest generals of all times, Hannibal and his overpowering African armies conquered major portions of Spain and Italy and came close to defeating the mighty Roman Empire.
Born in the North Africa country of Carthage, Hannibal became general of the army at age twenty-five. His audacious moves-such as marching his army with African war elephants through the treacherous Alps to surprise and conquer Northern Italy-and his tactical genius, as illustrated by the battle of Cannae where his seemingly trapped army cleverly surrounded and destroyed a much larger Roman force, won him recognition which has spanned more than 2000 years.

Hannibal, the North African Hercules is the Black man hailed by scholars and military historians as the father of military strategy. Hannibal performed the astounding feat of marching his army and war elephants through the Alps to surprise and conquer his enemies in 218 B.C. With only 26,000 of his original force of 82,000 troops, he defeated Rome which was the mightiest military power at the time, with an army of a million men. For the next fifteen years Rome was defeated in every battle.

Hannibal's tactics are still taught today in leading military academies of the U.S.A., Europe & other lands, and to this very day his genius as a strategist, warrior, statesman and economist, along with his example of moral courage, is an example to be emulated by all members of the Afrikan, Afro-American, West Indian and Black Communities across the globe.

Was Hannibal a blackman- (The Arcane Controversy)

Hannibal is usually depicted as a white man, but his coins in the British Museum and the Museo Kercheriano, Rome, show him to have been an African of purest type with rings in his ears. Col. Hennebert, perhaps the leading authority on Hannibal, declares that none of the several differing portraits now exhibited as Hannibal is he, "We do not possess any authentic portrait of Hannibal," he says. (Histoire d'Annibal, Vol. I, p. 495, Paris, 1870). These coins were struck by Hannibal while he was in Italy. In the absence of other information the most logical argument is that they bore his own effigy, the more so, as the several kinds of them bear the same likeness.

The Carthaginians were descendants of the Negro-Phoenicians also called Zidonians who were the descendants of Ham's grandson Sidon, the black first son of Canaan. (This bust of a Phoenician is from the Louvre museum.) They were known as great Black merchants who traded with India, the people of the Mediterranean and the Scilly Isles, but the Phoenicians were also highly skilled seamen, navigators, ship builders, traders, and architects.

Hannibal was a member of the Barca family which was the most prominent family of the Carthaginian Empire which was renowned for its enormous prosperity and dominance of the Mediterranean Sea.

The people of Carthage were described by contemporaries as having very dark skin, flat noses, finely curled hair, and full lips, as commonly seen among North Africans. The Carthaginian women were famed for their beauty and the men for their handsome appearance.

While dwelling in Europe, Hannibal and his Negro-African Army intermixed their blood with the Europeans, and even to this day, the people of those nations have frizzy coiled hair and darkish skin.

Hannibal was described as a tall man of exceptional physical strength, endurance, skill as an athlete and soldier. The men who served under his command admired his superior martial art skills and his willingness to endure the same hardships that they were faced with. These physical and mental characteristics made him stand out high above all the others.

Hannibal possessed extraordinary courage, cunning, resourcefulness, great intellect, all of which made him a difficult opponent against the Romans. His charismatic influence as an orator, politician, and military commander enabled him to solidify an army made up of Phoenicians, Greeks, Estrucans, Africans from the many nations of Africa, Iberians from Spain, nomads of the African Coast, Gauls, Libyans, and Numidians, making him therefore the first commander in charge of a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, and multi-racial military force.

There were several European nations which fell under black Africa's rule. Hannibal, the great genius and Carthaginian general plundered deep inside Europe and seized Spain, Portugal, a portion of France, all of Italy and also made a triumphant trip across the Alps to conquer Rome.

Happy Black History Month
