Greatest Lady in My Life - About the Song

This song was inspired by a number of things, mainly my own mum, Pam, who's always supported and encouraged me from day one, in everything I do.

I realised i'd written so many songs about love and relationships that have come and gone, but I hadn't written about a greater love in my life, one that is so often taken for granted, that's there for you from the day you're born. An unconditional love, that never fades, never changes and never lets you down.

In recent times a number of my close friends have suffered tragic losses in their lives, losing parents and loved ones and it's the most heartbreaking thing ever to witness someone you care about going through that. It's just so important that we cherish every moment we get to spend with our friends and family and make sure we tell them how much we love them every chance we get.

Also I couldn't help thinking about all the amazing women who have faced and overcome so many unimaginable obstacles, yet still show so much strength and courage in their every day lives, so it was these thoughts that inspired me to write The Greatest Lady in my Life.

I will be performing the song for the first time at the Tesco Mum of the Year Awards 2009 this coming Sunday and then from midnight on the 2nd March, the song will be available Worldwide to download from all major download outlets such as itunes, hmv, Amazon and the Tesco website as well.

The style of the song for me is quite reminiscent of some of the earlier ballads that we used to write in A1, such as Everytime, Heaven By Your Side and Like a Rose, so I hope that anyone who may have enjoyed those songs will also enjoy Greatest Lady in my Life.

I'm sorry i've not been able to give any kind of a preview of this track, this is due to the fact that Tesco have asked for the exclusive on the song so after sunday i'll be able to post it on here. There isn't a video for it, but there will be footage from the Awards which i'll also be posting online.

The Extra track on the single download will be a Karaoke version so aspiring singers everywhere can sing it to their mum's on Mother's Day, Aww : )  

As I mentioned before, this song was not originally intended to be released as a single or even included on the album as it's very different from the rest of the album. I can't wait to start promotion for that, so watch this space for more details about my debut album titled Peace at Last which will be released April '09.

Hope you're doing great on this pretty cold & miserable sunday, unless of course you're somewhere else in the world where it's absolutely gorgeous, in which case, i'm very jealous : )
Thought i'd post a slightly more personal message to follow on from the Press Release regarding my debut single coming out.

As far as the news goes, i'm really excited about releasing a single & being involved with such a big company like Tesco for their Mum of the Year 2009 campaign.
I've heard alot about previous years & it sounds like an amazing & very emotional event, with stories of incredibly brave women who have faced & overcome a number of adversities in their lives & achieved some amazing acomplishments , such as one lady last year who has fostered & opened her home to over 300 kids over the last 42 years, must be a pretty big house!
And another lady who after tragically losing her 8 year old son, went on to raise money to provide fresh water for villiages in South Africa, so far raising £91,000, enabling them to build fresh water wells in her sons name. So it was people like this who inspired me to write the song Greatest Lady in My Life & of course my own mum who's always been a source of inspiration to me.

Tesco heard the song & were happy to make it the official song for the campaign, which is fantastic, I can't wait to perform a the awards. I hear that Russell Watson & possibly James Morrison will also be performing at the event. And i've just heard that Donny Osmond will be in attendance as well, so mum's send me your knickers to get signed, i'm kidding!! Really, I am : )

The song wasn't originally intended to be released as a single as it's VERY different from anything else on the album, but due to the response we've had so far I decided that it would make a great single release in time for Mothers Day over here. Or for any special lady in your life, doesn't just have to be for a mum : ) I'm already in promotion mode!

But can I please ask...plead....BEG?! (does that sound too desperate?) that you help get the word out about the single, it's available for download at midnight on March 2nd there will be some hard copies of the single as well, which will be part of a giveaway on my website nearer the time.

As for the album, I'm so excited about that I can't begin to tell you how happy I am with it, I don't want to give too much away at this point but title track is just awesome! If I may say so myself ; )

Now on to all things a1 related so for anyone who's got bored by my long blog & disappeared they'll miss this part ; )
I do hope you're not too disappointed that my announcement wasn't regarding an a1 reunion, if you didn't know already, it'll be the 10 year Anniversary of when we released our first single this coming May, which can I say is just SCARY!! Now I know what older people mean when they say 'It only seems like yesterday' , ok, so it doesnt seem like yesterday, a lot's happened in the last ten years, though if I was asked to list everything it might be a difficult task , the whole a1 experience still feels like I was caught in a whirlwind, thrown up in the air & i'm still waiting to land : ) But as far as a reunion goes, watch this space

Mark Read's debut Single Greatest Lady in my Life will be premiered at the Tesco Magazine Mum of the Year Awards 2009 Event in London on the 1st March



The Tesco Mum of the Year Awards 2009 will be a huge media event, attended by celebrities & specially invited guests, footage from the event will be sent out to all major news & media outlets. Videos from the performance will be posted on my brand new website www.markreadmusic.com


The song will be available via all major download digital companies, including the Tesco website from midnight on the 1st March in the UK & Eire with the rest of the world to follow leading up to the 10th May Mother’s Day



The perfect song for a Mother's Day gift on the 22nd March in the UK & 10th May in all other English speaking countries plus Japan & the Far East



This it the 1st single from the new album entitled Peace at Last which will be released in April ’09. Again available on all download sites internationally



Promotion for the single will begin after 1st March, as the song is being performed Exclusively for the ceremony. Promotion will include tv & radio spots across the country.
