Note: Any BOLD shows were cancelled in 1995 season; Murder She Wrote was cancelled in the twelfth season.

Anniversary:

A Current Affair celebrated ten years in syndication. It was their last year too.

Married With Children celebrated ten years on FOX.

Entertainment Tonight celebrated fifteen years in Syndication.

Late Night celebrated fifteen years on NBC.

Biggest New Hit: Caroline In The City was #4 on NBC Thursday. Another single woman looking for love. Okay! We got the point in numerous of shows! LOL. Hey, what about the guys looking for love? We need a shot at love on TV too!

First Run:

Flipper returned to syndication after a twenty–seven year absence. The series was previously on NBC.

The Outer Limits returned to TV after a thirty–year absence. It was on ABC from 1963–1965. This time around, it lasted six years in syndication; first on Showtime. The Outer Limits still control all that we see and hear. Don't worry. It's only a TV show.

Movies 2 TV: John Grisham's The Client was based on the 1994 Susan Sarandon/Tommy Lee Jones movie.

Name Change:

CBS pulled The Bonnie Hunt Show after a month. It got a new shortened name, Bonnie, in March 1996. It lasted another month.

CBS pulled Central Park West from the air for bad ratings in November. The show was retooled into CPW in June 1996. The twice airings failed miserable.

Too Something was pulled off in October 1995. The winner of a viewer contest was allowed to pick a new name, New York Daze. Neither the new name nor the show stick. It returned only for a month.

New Nights:

WB added Sunday nights to the schedule with Pinky & The Brain and five comedies.

UPN added Tuesday & Wednesday nights to the schedule. Tuesday had Deadly Game and Live Shot. Wednesday had The Sentinel and Swift Justice.

The Return:

Fred Dryer returned in a syndication series, Land's End, after a five–year absence. He previously starred in the 1980's hit police drama, Hunter.

One West Waikiki returned to syndication for another year; it was previously on CBS in the summer of 1994.

Spin Off:

Baywatch Nights from Baywatch, Mitch Buchanan moonlighted as a detective while he was still a lifeguard on Baywatch.

Buddies from Home Improvement, the Buddies were in ONE episode of Home Improvement on March 14, 1996.

Xena: Warrior Princess from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, the reformed Xena, who failed to kill Hercules, vowed to change her evil ways on this series.

Switch Network:

Minor Adjustments jumped to UPN from NBC in midseason.

Sister, Sister went from ABC to WB.

Tidbits:

Yes, Aliens In The Family had two episodes in prime time, but it finished its run in the summer on ABC Saturday morning.

Kirk Cameron and his real life wife, Chelsea Noble, starred in Kirk; they previously fell in love on the set of Growing Pains in the 1980's.

Andrew Clay threw out the "dice" to Bless This House. Man, oh ,man! He struck out badly. He should have kept the dice for good luck!

Shaun Cassidy, yes you know who that is, created American Gothic. He was the supervise producer.

Let me get this "STRAIGHT." I moved to Hollywood in 1995. Few years later, I became a cross dresser (never happen), be involved with a fat woman (EIW! Double EIW! I adored her very much), and had a baby with her! Boy, howdy! My fictionalized life was much better than mine Hey, wait a damn minute! I should be Roseanne. I can win the lottery too!

Tony Danza was an executive producer of Before They Were Stars. It was first seen as specials starting in May 1994.

Roseanne was the executive producer of Saturday Night Special. She hosted the premiere episode.

1994/95 – Seinfeld was #1 on NBC Thursday.

Note: Any BOLD shows were cancelled in 1994 season; Empty Nest was cancelled in the seventh season.

Anniversary:

An Evening At The Improv celebrated ten years on A&E.

Monday Night Football celebrated twenty–five years on ABC.

Saturday Night Live celebrated twenty years on NBC.

Biggest New Hit: ER was #2 on NBC Thursday. The hits kept on coming from The Cosby Show to Cheers to Seinfeld to LA Law to Friends and ER. Thursdays truly belonged to NBC. No network could compete with NBC on that night.

First Run:

Forever Knight returned to syndication. It was previously on CBS Crimetime After Primetime from 1992–1994.

Sirens returned to syndication with two original cast members, Adrienne–Joi Johnson and Liza Synder, after it failed on ABC in 1993.

Name Change: These Friends Of Mine to Ellen.

Networks Debut:

WB premiered with their first show, The Wayans Bros., on January 11, 1995, Wednesday at 8 PM. Unhappily Ever After followed at 8:30 PM.

UPN premiered with their first show, Star Trek: Voyager, on January 16, 1995, Monday at 8 PM.

Reruns: FOX aired reruns of the HBO hit comedy, Dream On, for a short period in 1995.

The Return: The original Family Feud host, Richard Dawson, replaced Ray Combs.

Spin Off: Women Of The House from Designing Women. Four years later, Delta Burke returned to her most famous role, Suzanne Sugarbaker. Delta was fired from Designing Women for gaining too much weight in 1991. Time healed all wounds for Delta Burke, Linda Bloodworth–Thomason and Harry Thomason.

TV History:

The Simpsons tied with the Flintstones as the longest running cartoon in prime time, six seasons each.

Tidbits:

Carl Lumbly is the only cast member to return from the M.A.N.T.I.S. pilot.

Star Trek: Voyager is the first Star Trek series to be on network TV since the original Star Trek series on NBC in the late 1960's. Kathryn Janeway is the first female captain on Star Trek. Linda Hamilton auditioned for the role of Capt. Kathryn Janeway; the part went to Kate Mulgrew.

The Jon Stewart Show replaced the cancelled Arsenio Hall Show late at night; it was produced by MTV and syndicated by Paramount Studios.

George Clooney previous starred in E/R, a 1984/85 CBS comedy; he went on to greatest fame of playing a doctor in the NBC drama, ER.

Carl Winslow is a very bad father on Family Matters. His daughter, Judy, disappeared without a trace. Yet, no one search for her. Even, Carl didn't fill a missing person report! Dear Lord! That's shocking! He should have known better. For crying out loud, he is a police officer!

Pig Sty and Platypus Man premiered on the same night and were cancelled on the same night 13 weeks later. Even switching time slots with each other couldn't save both series.

1993/94 – 60 Minutes was #1 on CBS Sunday, third year running.

Note: Any BOLD shows were cancelled in 1993 season; Star Trek: The Next Generation was cancelled in the seventh season, but continued to live long and prosper in theatre movies, starting with Star Trek Generations in 1994.

Anniversary:

The George Michael Sports Machine celebrated ten years on TV.

Hollywood Insider celebrated ten years on USA Network.

Jeopardy celebrated ten years in syndication.

Larry King Live celebrated ten years on CNN.

Murder, She Wrote celebrated ten years on CBS.

Showbiz Today celebrated ten years on CNN.

The Tonight Show celebrated forty years on NBC.

Biggest New Hit: Grace Under Fire was #5 on ABC Wednesday. Grace Kelly was a single mother and an alcoholic. Say what? An alcoholic? That's a first. A lead character is an alcoholic on a sitcom. The Grace Kelly character was a nod to the actress.

Local TV: Clapprood Live was on local TV in Boston, then on Lifetime in 1994.

Movies 2 TV:

Robocop–The Series was based on the Robocop movies, starring Peter Weller.

Weird Science was based on the 1985 Anthony Michael Hall movie.

The Nanny's Soap Connections:

The Nanny was Charles Shaughnessy's first series. He was the extremely popular Shane Donovan on Days Of Our Lives from 1984 - 1992. His brother, David Shaughnessy, worked on The Young & The Restless.

Y&R cast members, Melody Scott Thomas, Peter Bergman, Joshua Morrow, Jeanne Cooper & Shemar Moore, appeared as themselves on The Nanny in 1997.

Nicole Tom is the real sister of Heather Tom. Heather was the popular Vicki Newman on Y&R from 1991 - 2003. Nicole's twin brother, David Tom, was Billy Abbott on Y&R from 1999 - 2002. The Abbotts and The Newmans are the family rivals on Y&R. Heather & David never ever shares a scene on Y&R. Heather & David played half siblings on One Life To Live in 2004 till David was killed off the soap by a gay serial killer. For a while, Heather and David were on All My Children as the same OLTL characters. Yes, the soaps are very confusing to keep track of.

Name Change:

Friday Night Videos to Friday Night in January 1994.

Later With Bob Costas to Later With Greg Kinnear. Greg replaced Bob on Later in February 1994.

New Night: FOX finally added Tuesday nights to the schedule in September 14, 1993 with Roc, Bakersfield P.D. and America's Most Wanted. FOX is now on every night of the week.

Reruns: FOX shown reruns of Tales From The Crypt from January 1994–August 1995. The new episodes were still on HBO.

The Return:

Kim Fields returned in Living Single after a six-year absence. She was previously on The Facts Of Life in her best-known role, Tootie Ramsey. She was no longer Tootie to the fans. She became a grown up woman, Regine Hunter – the gold digging sexpot, on Living Single.

Marsha Warfield joined Empty Nest for their last two seasons. She was previously on Night Court in her best-known role, Roz Russell.

Harry Anderson returned in Dave's World. He was previously on Night Court in his best-known role, Judge Harry Stone.

John Larroquette returned in The John Larroquette Show. He was previously on Night Court in his best-known role, Dan Fielding.

Tyne Daly returned in Christy after a five-year absence. She was previously in her best-known role, Mary Beth Lacey on Cagney & Lacey.

Simultaneous: Jason Alexander was on Duckman and Seinfeld from 1994–1997. Seinfeld ended the following season.

Spin Off:

Frasier from Cheers; Frasier moved back home to Boston and lived with his dad, Martin Crane, a retired police officer. Frasier is the longest running spin off series; tied with The Jeffersons, eleven seasons each.

Jennifer Lopez and Peep Serna were in two series this season, playing the same characters. A major earthquake destroyed most of the sets on Second Chances in January 1994. Connie Sellecca and Megan Follows were about to enter the late stages of their pregnancies by the time the sets were rebuilt. The producers shut down the show for good. Jennifer and Pepe showed up on the short-lived spin off series, Hotel Malibu, for the summer.

704 Hauser from All In The Family. A black family moved into Archie Bunker's old house in Queens, New York.

Tidbits:

Ben Savage (Boy Meets World) is the brother of Fred Savage (The Wonder Years). Ben was previously on Dear John. The Wonder Years ended in September 1993 and Boy Meets World started in September 1993. Both shows were on ABC.

Frasier tied with Cheers for eleven years each in 2004.

Kelsey Grammer (Frasier Crane) tied with James Arness (Matt Dillon) for playing the same character on prime time for twenty years in 2004.

The Jon Stewart Show was MTV's first talk show. Howard Stern was the first guest.

ABC showed three "Turning Point" specials in 1993/94, then a TV show in 1994, then the specials again in 1995/96 and TV show again in 1996/97.

CBS cancelled Silk Stalkings after two years. Silk Stalkings continued to air new episodes on USA Network.

Tony Danza was the executive producer of George.

Kevin Sorbo was the runner up for the Superman role on Lois & Clark; Dean Cain became Superman. He was a possible for Fox Mulder on The X Files; David Duchovny got the part. Sorry, I just don't see him as Superman or Fox. He was a natural for Hercules. Lois & Clark and The X Files started this season.

Gerard Christopher won the Superman role on Lois & Clark. Yet, he was dismissed from the role; he was ALREADY played Superman in Superboy. Therefore, the role went to Dean Cain

Victoria Rowell was on The Young & The Restless and Diagnosis: Murder at the same time. She worked both shows till she left Y&R in 1998. I really don't how the soap stars do it! A daytime soap is hard, VERY HARD! The soap is already a full plate. Add a prime time show on top of it is extremely HARD! My hats are off to the soap stars. We need to give them credit for working two shows at the same time. Trust me, the soaps are great learning ground. Many stars got their start on daytime such as David Hasselhoff, Eva Longoria, Tom Selleck, Tommy Lee Jones, Judith Light, Phylicia Rashad, Joe Lando, Juilanne Moore, Danny Pintauro, Meg Ryan, Kerr Smith, Marisa Tomei, Martin Sheen, Richard Thomas, Jensen Ackles, Charlotte Ross, Kelly Ripa, Marc Consuelos, Sarah Michelle Geller, Kim Delany, Josh Duhamel, Jessie McCartney, Rick Springfield, Ricky Martin, Richard Dean Anderson, John Stamos, Ted Shackelford, Janine Turner and the list goes on and on...

1992/93 – 60 Minutes was #1 on CBS Sunday, second year running.

Note: Any BOLD shows were cancelled in 1992 season; Cheers was cancelled in the eleventh season.

Anniversary:

Friday Night Videos celebrated ten years on NBC.

Lifestyles Of The Rich & Famous celebrated ten years in syndication.

Love Connection celebrated ten years in Syndication.

Star Search celebrated ten years in Syndication.

Wheel Of Fortune celebrated ten years in syndication.

Hee Haw celebrated twenty–five years on TV; it was their last season too.

60 Minutes celebrated twenty–five years on CBS.

Biggest New Hit: Love & War was #14 on CBS Mondays. It was a "love & war" between the audience and the show; there was basically no chemistry between Jay Thomas and Susan Dey. In all, it wasn't a funny show. Annie Potts replace Susan Dey and things were starting to look up for Love & War.

Death: John Hancock died from a heart attack, just like his character, Ike Johnson, did on Love & War. Charlie Robinson replaced him on the show as his brother, Abe Johnson.

Movies 2 TV: A League Of Their Own was based on the 1992 Tom Hanks/Geena Davis movie. Penny Marshall was the movie director and her older brother, Gary Marshall played Mr. Harvey in the movie and the series. Tracy Reiner and Megan Cavanagh reprised their movie roles. Tracy Reiner is the real daughter of Penny Marshall.

Name Change:

Hee Haw to Hee Haw Silver

Parker Lewis Can't Loose to Parker Lewis

The Torkelsons returned as Almost Home in February 1993.

New Night: FOX added Wednesday nights to the schedule on July 8, 1992 with Beverly Hills 90210 and the 90210 spin off, Melrose Place.

Reruns:

CBS aired The Exile repeats from 1993–1995 on Crimetime After Primetime.

CBS aired Fly By Night repeats from 1993–1995 on Crimetime After Primetime.

NBC aired repeats of Mancuso, FBI during the summer of 1993

The Return:

Lorenzo Lamas returned in Renegade after a two-year absence. He was previously on Falcon Crest in his best known role, Lance Cumson, the whole run. His real life wife, Kathleen Kinmont, was his Renegade costar. She filed for divorce in 1994 and remained on the show for two more years till she badmouth about Lorenzo's new love in the press. Kathleen's mother was Lorenzo's mother on Falcon Crest! How creepy was that!

Markie Post returned in Hearts Afire. She was previously on Night Court in her best known role, Christine Sullivan.

Colm Meaney returned in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, thou he never left. He played Miles O'Brien on both Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987–1993) and Deep Space Nine (1993–1999).

David Carradine returned to TV in Kung Fu: The Legend Continues as Kwai Chang Caine, the grandson, of the original Kwai Chang Caine in Kung Fu, the 1970's series.

Switch Networks:

In the Heat of the Night went from NBC to CBS.

Matlock went from NBC to ABC.

Spin Offs:

Final Appeal from Unsolved Mysteries.

The Golden Palace from The Golden Girls, Blanche sold her house and brought a struggling hotel. There was hardly any staff; The Golden Girls became full time help. The show wasn't successful on CBS.

TV History: The Real World is the longest running MTV show since 1992.

Tidbits:

Melrose Place wasn't successful at first till Heather Locklear came aboard late in the season.

MTV's The Real World premiered on May 21, 1992. It is the second longest reality show after Cops.

CBS aired Johnny Bago late at night on Wednesday too; the Friday episodes was the originals.

Roc's second season on FOX was done LIVE, due to a recent LIVE episode in spring of 1992. All the regular actors were primarily stage actors.

Hee Haw Silver was selected earlier shows with new introductions by Roy Clark.

Danger Theatre contained fifteen minutes series of The Searcher and Tropical Punch. 357 Marina del Rey replaced Tropical Punch on the last airing of Danger Theatre.

The Kids In The Hall originally started on CBC in Canada and HBO in America in 1989.

Nick Knight was a failed 1989 pilot, starring Rick Springfield and John Kapelos. The pilot was remade in the Forever Knight series with John Kapelos reprising his role. Geraint Wyn Davies replaced Rick Springfield in the title role. This wasn't the first time that Geraint play a vampire on TV. He was a vampire in the failed 1990 series, Dracula: The Series.

Big Wave Dave's was a totally wipe out for Jane Kaczmarek and Kurtwood Smith. They had lots of things in common; both went on to star in huge hits for FOX! Jane was the tempestuous mother on Malcolm In The Middle from 2000–2006. Kurt was the overbearing father on That 70's Show from 1998–2006. Their TV sons, Danny Masterson and Christopher Masterson, are real life brothers.

Bonnie Hunt and her good friend, David Letterman, was the executive producers of The Building. She was the first woman to create, star, produce and write for a series. She even wrote the 22 episodes before she sold it. The Building came crashing down on her after 5 episodes. Dear Lord! Did she make it out of alive?

At the height of popularity, Studs was cancelled after 580 episodes. The then–spouse of Rupert Murdock, Anna Murdock hated the show with a passion.

The biggest late night shook up...Johnny Carson finally retired from The Tonight Show after more than twenty–nine years. NBC gave The Tonight Show to Jay Leno, instead of David Letterman. Jay Leno was the exclusive guest host since 1987. David was pretty upset that he was passed over. CBS offered David $42 million to compete with The Tonight Show the following season. Conan O'Brien took David's spot on Late Night the next season.

1991/92 – 60 Minutes was #1 on CBS Sundays.

Note: Any BOLD shows were cancelled in 1991 season; The Golden Girls was cancelled in the seventh season.

Anniversary:

Cheers celebrated ten years on NBC.

Nashville Now celebrated ten years on The Nashville Network.

20/20 celebrated fifteen years on ABC.

Biggest New Hit: Home Improvement was #4 on ABC Tuesdays; it tied with Cheers. Tim's solution to everything and to make things much better was "More Power!" Of course, it always blow up in his face. His family loves him thou. It was a great family series.

British Ties: CBS aired the BBC series, Smith & Jones, late at night.

Death: Redd Foxx suffered a heart attack on the set of The Royal Family. He later died on October 11, 1991. He finally joined Elizabeth in heaven. Boy, the big one really came to him!

First Run:

NBC shot themselves in the foot again, Baywatch returned to syndication. It became the most popular show in the world. Baywatch lasted on NBC for one season, 1989/90.

WKRP In Cincinnati returned to syndication after a nine year absence with three original cast members, Gordon Jump, Richard Sanders and Frank Bonner. It was previously on CBS from 1978-82.

Movies 2 TV: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures was based on the 1989 Keanu Reeves/Alex Winter movie and the sequel.

Name Change:

Gabriel's Fire to Pros & Cons.

Into The Night to Studio 59.

The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson to The Tonight Show With Jay Leno in May 1992.

New Night: FOX added Wednesday nights to the schedule on July 8, 1992 with Beverly Hills 90210 and the 90210 spin off, Melrose Place.

The Return:

All the troubles that JR gave Bobby in Dallas for ten years, Patrick Duffy deserves some laughs on Step By Step, with Suzanne Somers, as his wife.

The New $100,000 Pyramid returned to syndication as The $100,000 Pyramid after a three–year absence.

You Can Be A Star returned to TNN as Be A Star after two–year absence.

Spin Off:

First Look was the spin off from last season's failure, Preview.

Vinnie & Bobby from Top Of The Heap.

Tidbits:

NBC finally got a hit newsmagazine, Dateline NBC, after numerous of failures.

Sasha Mitchell and Patrick Duffy reunited on Step By Step; they previously starred on Dallas as uncle and nephew through JR Ewing.

Steven Bochco produced Capitol Critters with the world famous Hanna–Barbera Productions.

Meagan Fay and Richard Kind were on The Carol Burnett Show. They were both on Carol & Company last season.

Silk Stalkings ran concurrently on USA Network and CBS, both jointly produced the series.

Fifteen was Nickelodeon's first teen soap.

Hot Country Nights premiered on my birthday.

My baby sister and me got something else in common. We both have successful series that premiered on our birthdays. Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman started on January 1, 1993. Happy New Year! For me, it was Simon & Simon.

After two months Charlie Hoover was cancelled, a drunk driver killed Sam Kinison on April 10, 1991. Five days earlier, Sam married his girlfriend, Malika Kinison.

Strange Indeed! For starters, I have nothing against Dana Delany. Come on! She didn't deserve to win a best actress Emmy on August 30, 1992. Hello! China Beach ended in July 1991 and the fall season started in September 1991. She wasn't eligible to be nominated for an Emmy of the 1991/92 season. China Beach wasn't on that season! Dear lord! The other actresses were robbed of the Emmy. Hey, Dana, please return the Emmy to the rightful owner! Peace out.

1990/91 – Cheers was #1 on NBC Thursday.

Note: Any BOLD shows were cancelled in 1990 season; Twin Peaks was cancelled in the second season.

Anniversary:

Entertainment Tonight celebrated ten years in syndication.

Late Night With David Letterman celebrated ten years on NBC.

The People's Court celebrated ten years in syndication.

Biggest New Hit: America's Funniest People was #13 on ABC Sundays. Yep, the name really live up to the name; it was a great companion for America's Funniest Home Videos.

Comic Strip: Live There were two versions this season. The Sunday version was called Comic Strip: Live, starting in November 1990. The Saturday version became Comic Strip: Late Night. The Sunday version changed to Comic Strip: Prime Time in February 1991 and it was cancelled two months later. The Saturday version returned to the original name, Comic Strip: Live.

Crimetime After Primetime – From April 1991–January 1995, CBS offered original programs (Sweating Bullets, The Exile, Scene Of The Crime, Forever Knight, Urban Angel, Dark Justice, to name a few) late at night to compete with The Tonight Show on NBC. Silk Stalkings was the most popular of them all; it lasted 8 years, minus 6 on CBS. That show ran concurrently on both CBS & USA Network. David Letterman had a falling out with NBC. We all know why! CBS grabbed him quickly; David competes with Jay Leno. In order to make room for David, CBS cut Crimetime to one hour and aired Crimetime after The Late Show. Crimetime finally ended in January 1995; The Late Late Show took their spot late at night.

Daytime:

Designing Women was on CBS weekdays from May 1991–June 1992.

Full House was on NBC weekdays from June–September 1991.

First Run: 21 Jump Street begun a one year syndication; it was previously on FOX (1987–90).

Movies 2 TV:

Baby Talk was loosely based on the 1989 John Travolta/Kirstie Alley movie, Look's Who Talking.

Ferris Bueller was based on the 1986 Matthew Broderick movie, Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Harry And The Hendersons was based on the 1987 Kevin Peter Hall movie. Kevin reprised his hairy...oops, my mistake...hold on! Harry is hairy! I didn't make a mistake at all. Kevin reprised his HAIRY role for the series.

Swamp Thing was based on the 1982 Adrienne Barbeau movie.

Uncle Buck was based on the 1989 John Candy movie.

Name Change:

DEA to DEA – Special Task Force in April 1991.

Into The Night Starring Rick Dees to Into The Night in July 1991

Paradise to Guns Of Paradise in January 1991.

Reruns:

FOX aired Alien Nation repeats during the summer of 1991.

The Return:

NBC revived Dark Shadows. It was a popular daytime soap on ABC from 1966–1971.

The Joker's Wild returned to syndication after a four year absence.

Simultaneous: Dave Coulier was on two series – Full House and America's Funniest People. Dave's Full House costar, Bob Saget, hosted America's Funniest Home Videos.

Spin offs:

America's Funniest People from America's Funniest Home Videos.

Top Of The Heap from Married...With Children. It focus on Al Bundy's best friend, Charlie Verducci and his son, Vinnie Verducci. Charlie wants his dumb son to marry the rich.

Switch Networks: The Hogan Family went from NBC to CBS.

TV History: Dallas, the longest running soap, finally ended in the 1990 season. Dallas was on for fourteen years.

Tidbits:

Who cares about nothing? Seinfeld does in his 1990–1998 TV show.

Larry Hagman and Barbara Eden reunited on Dallas; they previously starred in the popular 1960's TV show, I Dream Of Jeannie.

Connie Sellecca was originally going to star on Baby Talk, Julie Duffy took over the role for the spring run, and Mary Page Keller took over and stayed for the remainder of the run.

Lifetime aired the Canadian series, E.N.G., daily at 7 PM, then it was vanished to late night. E.N.G lasted in Canada from 1989–1994 on CTV.

Elvis' widow, Priscilla Presley, was the co–producer of Elvis. Elvis was based on the very beginning of Elvis Presley.

Robin Leach created Preview. He was the executive producer too.

NBC cancelled The George Michael Sports Machine after seven years. The series went to syndication the following season.

Ah, shucks! Broken Badges didn't last that long. I know the real reason why! Everyone missed the first episode to celebrate my twenty–one birthday! Man, the fun times we had the club! I got so freaking drunk off my ass. I barfed in the restroom at the club. I couldn't handle my liquid. After all, it was my first alcohol drink.

Only the first season of Neon Rider was syndication in the states. Neon Rider lasted on CTV from 1990–1994.

CBS paired Sunday Dinner with the1970's classic, All In The Family. Norman Lear's new sitcom didn't fare too well. All In The Family had more viewers than Sunday Dinner.

The Comedy Channel and Ha! merged into a new network, Comedy Central, on April 1, 1991, April Fool's Day. Mystery Science Theater 3000 became the network's signature series.

Family Matters from Perfect Strangers, it was going to be about Harriet Winslow and her family, but as soon as Steve Urkel arrived midseason, the series started to focus on him and his long lasting crush on Laura Winslow. CBS pulled Wolf off from the air in November. Wolf was returned in June 1990, then it was banished to CBS late night the next month.

Peter Falk is the first actor to win a best lead actor for a drama on two networks, all for Columbo. Peter won in 1972 and 1976 on NBC and 1990 on ABC.

Steven Bochco and David E. Kelly created Doogie Howser M.D. David later created Picket Fences, Chicago Hope, Alley McBeal, Snoops, Girls Club, The Practice, Boston Public, The Brotherhood Of Poland, N.H. and Boston Legal. David worked for Steven on Hill Street Blues in the 1980's.

Merv Griffin was the executive producer of Monopoly.

Van Halen performed Sydney theme song, written by Eddie Van Halen, Valerie Bertinelli's husband.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 originally started on KTMA in Minneapolis on November 24, 1988, my nineteen birthday. See that. My birthday brought luck to another long lasting TV series. The first one was Simon & Simon.

1988/89 – The Cosby Show was #1 on NBC Thursday, fourth year running.

Note: Any BOLD shows were cancelled in 1988 season; Duet was cancelled in the third season.

ABC Mystery Movie: It combined three rotating series - Columbo, B.L. Stryker & Gideon Oliver. Columbo was part of the original NBC Mystery Movie of the 1970's.

Anniversary: Knots Landing celebrated ten years on CBS.

Australia Ties: Beyond Tomorrow was based on Beyond 2000.

Biggest New Hit: Roseanne was #2 on ABC Tuesday. It was the first comedy to focus on a heavyweight couple, Roseanne and Dan Connor, and their three kids with real problems and struggles to make it in the world. The show was very realistic; it even had some gay characters throughout the years.

British Ties: Dear John was based on BBC's Dear John.

Contract Dispute: John Haymes Newton wanted a raise. The producers retracted the raise and dismissed him from Superboy; he was busted for DUI in Orlando. John "would go back and do things different," but John can't. Hello, Superboy! Yes, you can! You can go back in time and save your career! Superman saved Lois Lane from dying in a earthquake in Superman 2. Yo, Superboy, take me back in time! There are some things I will do different too.

Daytime:

The Golden Girls was on NBC weekdays from July 1989–August 1990.

Perfect Strangers was on ABC weekdays from August 1989–July 1990.

Movies 2 TV:

Baby Boom was based on the 1987 Diane Keaton movie. The show wasn't that successful as the hit movie.

Dirty Dancing was based on the 1987 Patrick Swayze/Jennifer Grey movie. Once again, another failed movie-based series.

Name Change:

U.S.A Today–The Television Series to U.S.A Today On TV in January 1989.

Valerie's Family to The Hogan Family in June 1988.

The Return:

Family Feud returned to syndication after a three–year absence.

The Gong Show returned to syndication after a eight–year absence.

The New Liar's Club returned to syndication after a ten–year absence. It was previously known as The Liar's Club.

Mission: Impossible returned after a fifteen–year absence. Jim Phelps was once again the head of IMF; his successor was killed. Grant Collier, the son of the original IMF member, Greg Collier, was a part of the new IMF team. Yet, this revival wasn't successful. Sometimes, it used scripts from the original. Many fans were pretty upset with the 1996 Tom Cruise movie; there was no way that Jim Phelps was a traitor. Jon Voight took over the Jim Phelps role in the movie. Peter Graves was offered the part, but he declined to be in the movie after he learned that Jim will die in the movie. Reportedly, Greg Morris hated the movie so much that he left the movie early.

Spin Off:

Jesse Hawkes from High Mountain Rangers.

A Man Called Hawk from Spenser: For Hire.

TV History: Cops is the longest running reality show ever since 1988. It is a Saturday night staple with America's Most Wanted on FOX.

Tidbits:

The Munsters Today woke up from a 20-year sleep. Say what?!? How could it be? There was a 1981 reunion TV movie.

Dynasty was the first "big" 1980's soap to be cancelled.

Tattingers, a drama, returned to NBC in April 1989, this time as a comedy!!

The second season of The Cavanaughs started in August 1988. Coming Of Age replaced it in October 1988; it was on the fall schedule, not The Cavanaughs. The Cavanaughs' final episodes was in the summer of 1989.

1987/88 – The Cosby Show was #1 on NBC Thursday, third year running.

Note: Any BOLD shows were cancelled in 1987 season; The Colbys was cancelled in the second season.

Anniversary:

PM Magazine celebrated ten years in syndication.

Hee Haw celebrated twenty years on TV.

60 Minutes celebrated twenty years on CBS.

Biggest New Hit: A Different World was #2 on NBC Thursday. No surprise there! Yes, it was a top 10 hit. After all, A Different World was right after The Cosby Show. It didn't really take off till the show focus on Dwayne and Whitney after Denise left the series altogether.

British Ties: Top Of The Pops was based on the hugely popular music BBC series. Top Of The Pops lasted from 1964–2006 in Britain.

Daytime:

Growing Pains was on ABC weekdays from July 1988–August 1989.

Mr. Belvedere was on ABC weekdays from September 1987–January 1988.

First Run:

Webster begun a one year Syndication, it was previously on ABC (1983–1987).

We Got It Made returned to Syndication after a three-year absence with two original cast members, Teri Copley and Tom Villard. It was previously on NBC.

Movies to TV:

The Dirty Dozen was based on the 1967 Lee Marvin movie.

Down And Out In Beverly Hills was based on the 1985 Richard Dreyfuss/Bette Milder movie. Mike The Dog was the only one to reprise his role for the series. Yes, folks. Mike is really a nasty dog. BOW WOW!

In The Heat Of The Night was based on the 1967 Sidney Poitier movie. Sidney played Virgil Tibbs in the movie; Howard Rollins played him in the series.

Name Change:

Second Chance returned in midseason as Boys Will Be Boys.

Valerie to Valerie's Family. Valerie Harper left the show. Good riddance!

Reruns:

NBC aired Blacke's Magic reruns in the summer of 1988.

NBC aired Sara reruns in June 1998. It was last seen in 1985 on NBC.

The Return: Carroll O'Connor returned in In The Heat Of The Night with his real life son, Hugh O'Connor. He was no Archie Bunker, that's for sure! It felt so strange of seeing Carroll as a different character; he pulled it off greatly! He is best known for All In The Family.

Spin Off:

Beverly Hills Buntz was a short-lived spin off comedy from Hill Street Blues. Lt. Norman Buntz quit the police force and became a dick in Beverly Hills.

A Different World from The Cosby Show, Denise Huxtable left home for a collage life at Hillman Collage.

Just The Ten Of Us from Growing Pains.

The Law & Harry McGraw from Murder, She Wrote. Jerry Orbach was popular enough to get his own spin off. Jerry became more famous on Law & Order few years later.

TV History – America's Most Wanted is the longest running public service TV series ever. Also, 893 fugitives have been captured since 1987.

Tidbits:

Hey, hey, hey! It's the new Monkees! We just don't give a damn! We want the original Monkees!

Marisa Tomei was on the first season of A Different World with Lisa Bonet; she later became an Oscar winning actress for My Cousin Vinny in 1992.

Third time's the charm for John Stamos. Full House was his biggest hit. It made stars out of Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, John Stamos and the ever popular, The Olsen Twins – Mary Kate and Ashley.

Candace Cameron (Full House) is related to Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains); they are siblings. Both are on ABC hits.

Brett Butler got her start on Dolly. She did her comedy act once, then a skit with Dolly Parton for the second time. Dolly hired her to be a writer.

CBS Summer Playhouse. Just what the name said. It only aired in the summers of 1987–1989. There was no hosts in the last two summers.

Well Publicized: Valerie Harper left Valerie in a dispute with the producers. Assuming, over money. Therefore, her Valerie character died on the show.
