well, i suppose you wonder why i've called you all here?

As you know we have been trekking this country pretty religiously over the past year. Trying to get into the ear of every person out there in this great landscape of ours.
What you may not know, is that during this time we have been quietly whipping up hits and digging in the dirt to find a place to record them and more importantly someone to record them with!

After throwing around a few ideas for producers we decided on a whim to contact someone i have admired for quite some time.
Jim Dickinson has produced albums for a lot of our hero's (john hiatt, north mississippi allstars, big star, alvin hart) and has recorded with a who's who of musical awesomeness (Bob Dylan, The Stones, Aretha Franklin ). Needless to say that when we realized that he was available and interested we were over the moon.

We started to put the ball in motion and agreed that the first week of January would be a great time to head south and make an awesome record.
unfortunately, we were really bummed to find out that we wouldn't be eligible for  Funding Grants from organizations like MID (Music Industry Development in NB), FACTOR or Canada Council (national) due to the fact that we would be recording the album ,in its entirety, in the United States.

we had a couple options to think about:
- find a new producer/studio in canada, Bring jim to Canada or throw it all in and find a way to raise the money.
after weighing our options we came to these conclusions:

The Producer we want to work with wants to work with us. obviously we aren't messing with that then. we kept jim onboard.
Jim likes to record at his studio in mississippi. It makes sense as he built Zebra Ranch specifically for recording a three piece band (North Mississippi Allstars) live off the floor, which is how we agreed to approach this album to keep it sounding as close to "us" as we can. Aside from all this, we believe that an integral part of the vibe we want on record is going to come from making the journey down there and then immersing ourselves in the atmosphere there, when we arrive. We are, after all, going to the heartland of the blues. I will be only a few miles from the fabled crossroads of highways 61 and 49. This is the fabled place where Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil. It is also the image I had tattooed on my forearm when I decided to dedicate my life to what I do. It was decided, then, that we would go "all in" and find a way to raise the money.

So that brings us up to speed.

Our first idea and attempt to raise money to pay for our recording trip to mississippi is nothing fancy but we 'spect it will be a hit.
This is a big ole invite to the first ever "Bastards Bottle Drive". Thats right folks. A good ole fashioned bottle drive.
If you have lived in a cave until now and don't know what a bottle drive is... well.... keep reading.....

It occurred to us one day what a pain in the ass it is to take bottles back. It also occurred to us that most people we know like to drink. A lot. We will be collecting empties. Cans, bottles both plastic and glass and juice cartons too!!

So....

If you live in the Fredericton area and could save up your empties for us we'll actually come to your house and pick them up. Thats right. we will come right over and take them away. We want 'em that badly. How can you donate your empties you ask? Simply email me at rossneilsen@gmail.com and we'll arrange a time and date to come pick em up.

We are really stoked that we have already had some of our friends who run and own bars and pubs let us know that they will be happy to donate some of the empties their business accumulates. If you own a business and want to help email me at rossneilsen@gmail.com and we can arrange the details.
We will also be making special trips to areas like St. Andrews for all you folks in the Charlotte County who want to help. If you live en route to one of our travel bottle destinations let us know and we'll stop on our way by.

If you drink em AND save em, we will come.

OTHER OPTIONS:
If this all seems rediculous to you or you live out of our travel radius but still want to help you can simply pre-order next springs release at the address below.
Send a check or money order for $10.00 to Ross Neilsen. In this case please specify that you would like to pre-order the cd.

I know that some of you would rather not have your empties laying around till we can get over for them and i also realize that our fans are some of the richest and most generous a band could ever ask for so.........all you folks who would rather just send us a donation to help us on our way can do so at:

Ross Neilsen
PO Box 31
570 Queen St
Fredericton NB
E3B 4Y9

We'd like to raise in the neighbourhood of $3000.00 .......So....if you've been looking for an excuse to have a party I would say this is it!........get drinking everybody.

Ladies and gentlemen,

we are alive and well. almost halfway through our nine week tour. we have been holed up in edmonton for a few days as our saskatoon dates got canned. big thanks to our pal jim sullivan for letting us take over his house. we hit the road again tomorrow en route to medicine hat then calgary. we cant wait to play again. we missed it so much that after our amazing breaky, accompanied by mimosa's, we had a little acoustic jam to prep for our gig in penticton at the dream cafe. we are very stoked for this gig as it puts us in a  new atmosphere playing our tunes in a whole new way. very cool.

anyway, i just wanted to let y'all know that our blog http://www.specialdelivery09.blogspot.com is getting more hilarious by the second AND that we have posted episode three of Bastard Radio, our weekly podcast. you can check it out here http://www.cyberears.com/podcasts/podcast_5518.xml  this week features tunes by the perpetrators outta winnipeg and pimp t aka brockway biggs out of ottawa as well as tunes from our shows in thunder bay and regina. check it, tight pants! yes. Hi Everyone

Well it's a done deal. I am in possession of my new Live Acoustic Solo CD titled ALONE VOL. 1
I am in the process of whipping up a press release for the media folks to let them all know the where's and when's.
I just wanted to send out a note to let y'all know that dates are posted on all my sites...

www.rossneilsen.com
www.myspace.com/rossneilsen
www.sonicbids.com/rossneilsen

There are even a couple of tunes off of the new record on the myspace and sonicbids site. Please hop over there and check em out. If you are in the area for one of the shows wont you please stop in and say hi. i sure have missed ya and would love to catch up.

If you are wondering what this tour is all about i can tell you it is still tall tales (lies) and undeniable truths (more lies) coupled with some tunes that will range from the delta blues to the singer songwriter !?! (what is that anyway?) As i mentioned the new CD is all acoustic stuff so in honor of that I will be performing all these shows on a brand new acoustic guitar. Thanks to Yamaha for treating me so well!!! I've been playing their electrics for quite some time and it is a pleasure to be playing their acoustics now.

So for you that thinks you have seen the same show before from me i assure you, most of you have not seen my acoustic show as there have been far and few between, it will be a little different. I am a little nervous as i am not as comfy on acoustic as i am on electric but i look forward to some intimate little shows with y'all! Maybe we can have a contest this tour to name the new guitbox?

OK then. Well i hope to see you all out there on this tour. For all you folks who wonder "What has he done with the Sufferin Bastards?", don't worry. We are gearing up for a big ass national tour starting late april AND at some point this summer we will be releasing a live cd as well so hang in there!

hey myspacers,

well the ECMA's have come and gone. we survived over a dozen shows and WELL over a dozen beers. Had a great time and really made a splash on the saturday by roaming Fredericton on our flatbed truck fully equipped with a PA system dishing out our own blues rock! Photos on our facebook site and videos on youtube. check em out. good times had by all. We lost the best blues recoding category to our good pal Thom Swift! Congrats to him. He's got a great album and is destined for a good year!

Now I'm getting my stuff in a pile to hit Ontario for a few weeks in march. I'll be hanging in Toronto for a weekish so if you are around please come say hi! The dates are posted all the way into april. check em out. Got some fun gigs lined up for spring solo AND with the bastards so be on the look out. I hope we are all surviving winter ok. February is almost done so that means we are in the clear.

Anywho, i will try and put up some updates on my site www.rossneilsen.com while on tour so check often!

see ya out there!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let y'all know that I'm cancelling all my upcoming Onatio tour dates except for Mariposa Festival in Orillia. This is due to a serious family health crisis. I am sorry for the short notice but this is a family first situation. I won't be straying too far from home over the next little while. I will be back up in Ontario in October though with My band The Sufferin' Bastards, to  support my new album. Looks for us then!

Be well all,

Ross

Current mood:  bitchy

canadiian weather is NOT condusive to musicianing. I am typing from a pc in a days inn in riviere du loup where i have been stuck for 7 hours cause a small stretch of road is closed and i cant go anywhere till its opoen. right now it is looking like i have to cancel my first gig (opening for the beautifully talented Dawn Tyler Watson) on my tour. this is killing me. I am 12 and 1/2 hours away and i can make it, i think, if the road opens in the next two hours.so in two hours i either hit the road or hit the bottle of black bush i have chillin in the van. (it is st. patty's day after all.) hey look i finally found the apostrophe button wahoo! something went my way. (i'm typing on a french keyboard and its just not the same) Also to make things worse the leafs lost in a shoot out to the habs. i had to listen to everyone here (lots of habs fans in quebec) go yaaaa! fuck. best st. pat's ever! ok. good venting. now back to pacing my luxurious hotel room. fuck.
