Hello

I am sorry we haven't spoken in awhile. Last week I barely got out of bed. It wasn't swine but goddamn it was not fun. And before last week, well Damon and I were busy driving around North America playing shows with those lovely Silversun Pickups and Cage the Elephant folk. Thanks if you came to any of our shows over the last 2 months. We always appreciate it. Much like I appreciate chocolate and Damon appreciates hotels clearly labeling pillows as hard, soft or medium. It's the small things you know?

So I thought I would touch base and let you know a few things. First of all a bird dropped some bread in the Large Hadron Collider and shut it down again. Weird huh? Also there has been a giant shark lurking off the coast of Queensland where I have spent most of my life. Look at this.

SO AWESOME!!!! If I was there I would cover myself in cow blood and swim out in the hope of seeing it up close. Also, I have a loose agreement with my sister that a shark attack would be helpful to her socially. She urges me to cover myself in cows blood often and swim near sharks because she is adamant it would provide her with a fabulous story to share at dinner parties. She is my little sister, she has a weird hold over me. She says cover yourself in cow blood and swim with sharks, I say sure sister.

BUT perhaps more important than any of the above is the below.

CANADA!!! Land of snow and flu shots (for permanent residents ONLY), on the 29th of December 2009 our debut record Rearrange Beds will be available through the amazing folk at Maple Music Recordings! In stores and digitally. AT LAST!!! We promised it would be out this year. We just made it. And, to be honest I am not sure I promised anyone anything (apart from promising my sister that I would cover myself in cow blood etc). So don't buy your friend/sister/lover a Christmas present. Buy them a post-Christmas present and make it Rearrange Beds. We all know you could have stolen it many times by now and probably have. Buying it physically is a) cooler, b) more helpful, c) it looks way hotter than your writing on a cd-r. What good timing Canada because in January we are being taken on tour with our dearest friends in the world - Tegan and Sara. We love Tegan and Sara so much and think that their new record is so amazing. In fact we think it is so amazing I deleted my whole itunes library and imported Sainthood in 124 times. Now I only listen to it. The January tour will be so much fun for us. And for you! You can laugh at the Australian's being forced through the snow and ice. That's what Tegan and Sara are planning on doing. I can feel it. Check our tour dates here.

We will touch base soon. In the meantime stay warm or stay cool. Wherever you are remember to drink plenty of water and that "coughs and sneezes spread diseases, catch your germs in your handkerchief". Hmmm this is a pretty old saying and I am sure handkerchiefs have been proven to be filthy cease pools of germs.

Look after each other.

Well it's about time Charlie

How are you? Damon and I are both well. I have spent the last couple of weeks learning the alphabet in French and 1 - 10 in Mandarin. Just because it seemed like a good idea. Damon has been monitoring my progress online. He has also been purchasing a van and is now driving it to collect me to start touring again!!!

We have also spent a good deal of time talking to each other on Skype. As both our mothers would say "the technologies is so great".

If you live in Canada you should also know that as well as learning multiple languages these last few weeks, Damon and I have been jogging and working out. I base my work out routine on Rocky IV. Damon bases his more around Rocky II with a touch of Rambo. The reason for this fitness is you my dear Canadians! We are coming to see you. Our dates are...

Another reason we had to get fit was because Silversun Pickups asked us to go on tour with them in the USA with Cage the Elephant. Both amazing bands! All the people in these bands are so fit and buff. Damon and I look silly next to them. I know we look silly next to them because we toured with Silversun Pickups earlier this year in the UK. They were so much fun. On that tour I said to Damon, "Hey Damon go stand next to Christopher from Silversun Pickups". He did. Then I said "Oh wow, you look silly". Christopher didn't say anything he just looked scared.

I haven't really had a chance to stand next to Cage the Elephant in person yet. Actually, yes I have. Backstage when SSPU played with Metallica in Austin at SXSW. They looked pretty tough but I didn't have a chance to compare quads. I will on tour. I didn't see SSPU stand next to Metallica but I think they would even look tough next to them.

See how tough this tour is going to be? Damon and I have also been given several Rocky soundtrack cds. Actually, for real I think our label gave them to us. Which makes me think that both Cage the Elephant and Silversun Pickups have these records as well. Maybe that's what record labels do? They give their bands Rocky soundtracks. Anyways, we are going to traverse the continent with that blaring. I might even wear ankle weights on stage under my jeans. If I fall on stage you will know why.

For the record, we also have the Knight Rider theme song. Actually, I think Damon has a best of David Hasslehoff record. It's catchy. Like the flu.

We will check in with you on the road! Make sure you check in with us.

Sail safe and stretch properly. You won't regret it.

Hello

It has been so hard not writing to you sooner! Damon and I have been having some time off the road. We have been busy leading extremely interesting lives but in different cities, just to mix it up. We chat online and on the phone most days though! ha. I have been drinking coffee in my pj’s. Obviously I do this in the comfort of the apartment I am staying in. In Australia we call french press/bodum coffee – plunger coffee. When friends came over and I told them I was going to make plunger coffee, I was the source of much amusement. Apparently that is something you use to unblock your toilet. Whatever. Now I know.

Damon well…Damon what have you been up to?

I think he has been going to free Prince singalongs in Brooklyn…but I can’t be sure.

These were taken this morning as we chatted. I was making Damon jealous of my plunger coffee and donut…

It’s been interesting and fun but the real challenge has been not being in contact with you loyal pen friends. It’s like when your internet goes down and you feel like you are trapped on a desert island. No amount of resetting your modem or router changes the problem but you convince yourself “hmm yes…this time if I turn the power off for 2 minutes it is bound to work”…and it doesn’t. Oh it’s the worst feeling and along with this feeling comes the stark realisation that you rely too heavily on the internet.

Actually, about a year ago in Brisbane one of the communication service providers went down for about 8 hours. Oh my god. It was havoc. My cell phone didn’t work, my internet didn’t work. People were losing their minds in shopping centers because the EFTPOS or cashpoints were out. It was like a zombie uprising only there were no zombies. I was panicked. I thought about terrible things such as, what if my car breaks down on the way home from work? I lived about 15 minutes from work and would have been just fine but I got carried away with the panic of civilization shutting down.

Anyway as the communication black out progressed I began to realise that I rely far too heavily on telecommunications. I got home from work (unscathed) and lit candles, for no particular reason. The electricity was fine but it seemed fitting to sit in the dark and think about my internet and mobile phone use. Sitting in the candlelit room that afternoon (okay so it wasn’t dark at all) I made a resolution about my communication stylings. I watched the news that night and my phone. Eventually mine and the rest of the state’s service was reconnected. It turned out that day I had missed hardly any emails or phone calls…but I attribute this to the fact that most of the people who would have called or emailed me were experiencing the same communication breakdown and subsequent deep thought regarding their excessive reliability on technology.

The news was drowned in stories of said provider being sued by businesses who had lost money etc. etc. I went to bed with my mind firmly made up regarding my excessive reliability on my phone and the internet. Yeah…so the next morning I contacted one of the other service providers and signed onto another huge plan…just in case… Fuck being cut off for a day.

Anyways that’s how Damon and I have felt! We have felt cut off from you!!! Now we are back in contact and with tour dates!!! We are completing a run of dates across Canada in September, including the Rifflandia Music Festival! This will be more fun than poking a stick at a dead rat!

You should come see us at one of these shows.

More to come!

We have other exciting developments on the cards. Be sure to check back in. In the meantime here are some short videos that we made over the last couple months. We mainly made them with the view that no one else would see them but then Damon worked out how to use the camera software and one day I woke up and they were on our YouTube page. I guess that’s kinda how Paris Hilton would have felt…

Okay well I have so many more stories but this is already too long. I just woke up from a dream I had where my sister was hugging this weird Angora sheep/camel that was in love with her. She loved it too. Whatever. I have an open mind.

Take care and love lovers.

Hello Giant Squid and friends around the world.

How are you? Damon and I are well. We feel slightly more human today. We made it to London yesterday and tried to catch up on 6 months sleep. We did well. Damon did wake me in the middle of the night to tell me Michael Jackson had died. This made me really sad. The earliest photos of me that exist show me holding Michael Jackson's thriller in my cot. I am also wearing a fame t-shirt. My cool peaked early. Dangerous was also the first CD I ever owned. He was my first pop star. Days like today remind me not to take anything for granted. When I laid in my hotel bed this morning coming out of 12 hours sleep, watching MJ videos I certainly didn't take it for granted.

We DEFINITELY loved being on tour with the FABULOUS Telekinesis and didn't take them for granted. What a band!! No other band we have toured with have a) folded Damon's laundry and delivered it on stage or b) bought me new underwear and delivered it on stage. Truly amazing. Thank you for coming out and seeing us. We had such a good time. In an effort to be concise here is a list of amazing tour happenings with Telekinesis:

- Heavily peer pressured into eating Cracker Barrel. I was vehemently against it till Michael TK asked me if we wanted to go. I did a 180 and agreed with enthusiasm. I was clearly so charmed by the young man I couldn't say no. We loved it and ate it regularly like a family.

Photobucket

- Regular dance parties. Often no music involved. Very spontaneous.

- Damon, Lindsey (our most lovely merch girl and general horse assistant) and I saw fireflies for the first time EVER!!! I was so overwhelmed I cried. Luckily the park was really dark and no one could see!!!

- Damon got to ride with the boys in their van. Jonie from TK rode with us in our mini van. The boys talked boy stuff. The girls talked about skin regimes and ate chocolate. Seriously. Then I read aloud from my book on giant squids. What a day!

Photobucket

- David from TK mastered the Australian language. He now knows we don't eat shrimp, we eat prawns, we do carry large knives and use something called the dunny.

- We got to play on stage with TK and them with us! OH. MY. GOD. two drum kits at once. So much fun.

- David's instance on delivering Damon love letters on stage. They started off truly charming and ended up being a little disturbing. We have kept all for future reference. Just in case stuff gets weird. That's was the advice of the police.

Photobucket

Tomorrow we start our UK tour with Silversun Pickups. We cannot wait. Swoon has been on high rotation. Before Swoon was released we listened to Carnavas regularly. Damon and I actually obsessed over that record when we were record store employees not band mates. We cannot wait to hit the road with them. Check our dates. We also have a few side shows of our own, and some festivals. Come along and say hey.

I am still waking up. Hope this makes sense. Go spin Thriller or Bad or Dangerous. I am going to do all three.

Sail safe. Love lovers.

ps... My SLR is broken, hence the light leaking in. New camera soon!

Hello

Today is our last day in LA. We have had a month off here in between tours and it has been fantastic. The realisation of us leaving today hit me when I saw that Damon had pulled out his suitcase. I did the same and emptied it out and sat in it. The reason I did this was because recently I was trying to impress someone and I told them about the time my sister made me get into her suitcase and zipped it up. She said I was allowed to keep my head out. So she zipped the case up so that my head stuck out. Then she proceeded to wheel me around the house. It was so much fun. BUT then she got this crazy look that she gets and I knew I was in trouble. Then I saw she had wheeled me to the top of our staircase. It wasn't a big staircase but when you are at suitcase level any staircase is imposing. Anyways she pushed me down it. It hurt but I have to admit it was kind of funny. I am quite sure the person I was trying to impress was thinking the story was amusing until they asked how old we were when we did this. I guess they were thinking we were 5 or 6. I said "oh this was about 3 years ago" and when those words passed innocently over my lips I realised that I need to remember to try HARDER to not tell stories like that to people I am trying to impress.

So I sat in my suitcase this morning and thought about that, and I thought about how excited both Damon and I are to head out on tour again. I thought about how lucky Damon and I feel to get to play with such wonderful bands. I thought about our last month in LA.  I thought about:

- How I washed a pair of sneakers in the washing machine at our place in LA and how two shoes and two shoelaces went in and how two shoes and one shoe lace came out. I thought about where that shoelace was right now.

- I thought about how I made Damon come to the Weenie Roast Festival, even though he protested and said he was too hung over. I thought about how I told him he would regret not coming. I thought about how at the time I thought I was really funny giving Damon a plastic bag for the car when he managed to build the strength to get in. I thought about how clever I was to bring that plastic bag and that my Mum would be proud that I paid attention to little things she did like that. I don't know how to cook but gee whiz I know when to bring a plastic bag. I thought about how Damon vomited in silence into the bag and I thought about how terrible I felt that I had talked him into coming along. I thought about how happy I was when Damon said I should turn the car around so he could go throw out the bag and brush his teeth quickly so we could get to the festival.

- I thought about how we took tourist photos at the wall on Sunset Blvd, where Elliott Smith's Figure 8 album cover photo was taken. Look:

Photobucket

Photobucket

- I thought about how Damon and I got in trouble for peddling a hire boat into the fountain on Echo Park lake on purpose. If they want to deter people from doing it they should charge more than $3 for the cleaning fee. We worked our pretty quickly that $3 was a very reasonable price to paddle under the fountain. I think it was worth at least $25.

- I thought about how Damon and I can't cook.

- Then I thought about how I should get out of my suitcase before Damon sees me because he might zip me in but leave my head sticking out and wheel me to the staircase.

It's safe to say our last month has been so much fun. Thanks to all our new and old friends here who have made it so. I am predicting the next month will be even more fun. Is that possible? I like a good challenge.

Recently Rolling Stone said we were a Breaking Artist. Check it out here. This article also mentions Damon's vomit. It says puke. I would like to think I didn't say Damon "puked" but the I think the phone line was kind of bad and I was laughing pretty hard. I probably did say puke. I wish I had said vomited.

Remember how Damon and I were promising that an amazing music video was coming that the even more amazing Angela Kendall directed? Did you see it? Stereogum premiered it. You can see it here. We hope you like it. We do.

I bought a new book called "Animals of the Ocean, in particular the Giant Squid." I just finished the section on the do's and dont's of dating giant squids. I don't intend to date a giant squid anytime soon but one must keep an open mind. The point I am making is that it was insightful and I took something from it. I hope this blog was an insight into our last month. I hope you can take something from it. If I may, I would suggest to always take the plastic bag.

See you soon. Sail safe and love lovers. That's what we do.

Kate and Damon.

Howdy friends

We hope you are well. I think I always write these blogs as letters. I guess they are a type of letter. I wish people wrote more letters. I just read the transcript of a lecture by Nick Cave (that a friend very kindly posted to me in the mail no less!!!) about letter writing. It was interesting and inspiring. I have yet to put pen to paper but I thought about it. That's something right?

Damon and I have some downtime in Denver. We have been catching up on sleep and watching vampires. We want to thank everyone who came out and saw us play over the last two months. We are really grateful you came out to see us play and came and said hey. It's so great! Thanks also for the kind and funny messages!

We would also like to thank The Appleseed Cast for having us. Fantastic guys and amazing storm chasers. They taught us how to wear a beard and we taught them not to be afraid of vegemite. A truly symbiotic relationship. Here we all are in New York City...

Damon and I are both going to spend the next month continuing to watch vampires and catching up on sleep. However, come June we are hitting the road with our lovely friend (and partner-in-late-night-standing-on-the-side-of-a-road-being-ignored-by-every-single-taxi-in -whatever-city-we-are-in) Telekinesis. We are so excited about touring with these guys! Not only do they get ignored by taxis but they make amazing music that gets stuck in my head. I fear Damon may have to take to some good old medieval trephination on my skull to get the songs out. He has indicated he will do what needs to be done to aid the tour. Perhaps tomorrow we will go to a hardware and get a drill. Tour dates with Telekinesis.

Also in July we trek to Norway to play the wonderful Slottsfjell Festival with Kaiser Chiefs, Foals, The Streets, Motorpsycho, Ash and more.

In other news, our US online store is up! It took some time but we wanted to make it great! Over the coming months we will add all sorts of new shirts, hoodies and of course our new record 'Rearrange Beds'. In the mean time support your local independent record store and us! Our little store is here.

AND while in Vancouver recently we shot a video for the song 'Camp Out' with the wonderful Angela Kendall. We look forward to showing off the results soon!

That's enough computer time for me. I am going to eat sushi.

Take care, love lovers.

Hey Storm Chasers

Damon and I are stuck in the lobby of our hotel because of a tornado
warning. I was actually waiting outside in the fresh Nashville air
thinking, my the air is still and what is that annoying noise??? Then
Damon called me and told me to come inside and that the annoying noise
was a tornado siren. We have never seen a tornado. We don't get them
in Australia. At least we don't get them on the east coast. We get
cyclones and lightening but not tornadoes. Part of me is really
excited that I will see one. Another part thinks I should leave it to
Helen Hunt and the last part is annoyed because I am hungry. I guess
there is no sense in being angry at mother nature. Damon just braved
outside to go to the coffee shop across the road. When he walked out
the door I had a vision of Crocodile Dundee. Awesome. I should
probably check to see if I can see him and he is okay. I will give it
10 minutes. What am I gonna do anyways? Battle the storm with a sword.
No. But you have to admit that would be pretty cool. It would also be
cool if there was a dragon next to me when I drew my sword.

Damon and I have been plenty busy lately. So busy in fact, this
tornado is probably sent from the universe to make us sit still. Two
nights ago we started our tour with the Appleseed Cast. To be playing
with such a wonderful band is an honor and to make it even sweeter
they are such nice people. Check our page for tour dates!

I just googled tornadoes and what to do. I note that all the
information says to stay away from glass windows and seek shelter. I
am sitting watching the storm roll in through a wall of glass. Oh
good. Damon is back. He brought me a sandwich. He said everyone looked
at him like he was crazy as he ran down the street. Awesome.

Last weekend we were in Vancouver and we made a video for Camp Out
with the amazing and talented Angela Kendall and her fabulous crew. I
found out that people in North America make music videos, not filmclips. I told a friend from Vancouver that we were making a filmclip
over the weekend and she looked at me like I was mad. She started
muttering about film strips and silent films. Anyways we completed it
and we made some really awesome friends AND we got to see where
Leonard Nimoy lived or lives...which is pretty much the most starstruck I have been since I met Murray the Wiggle.

OH also! Some lovely fans have started a message board for those
inclined to listen to An Horse. You can find it here
http://anhorse.chocoforum.net/..forum.htm. We both think this is lovely
and a good place for people to connect. Maybe you can car pool if
you come to a show. Green thinking.

I just wikied 'storm chasers' and look what I discovered:
"Some organized chasing efforts have also begun in the Top End of the
Northern Territory and in southeast Australia,[4][5] with the biggest
successes in November and December."

Well if this music thing doesn't work out I am headed to the Top End.
Take care and hopefully see you in Atlanta...tonight....

OH wow sailors,

Damon and I have made it safe and sound to LA. We survived SXSW in Austin. It was a whole lot of fun and we got to see some awesome bands like
Silversun Pickups and Metallica...in one show!!! Ha! Amazing.

Thanks to all those who came out to our shows. It was awesome to look
out and see lots of fans as well as industry folk. Thanks also to our best Texas buddies for the frisbee and for buying sunscreen. You guys know who you are. I feel relieved that Damon and I helped prevent your skin burning and thus delayed your personal aging process.

While at SXSW we were lucky enough to be asked to play some tunes for
the good folk at SPIN magazine. Check it.

We were also asked about crocodiles and sharks by Uncensored Interview.com Actually, you know what...I don't know if we were but I (as in Kate) just started talking about them. The question probably was...so tell us how you came up with the name An Horse and I answered "Shark attacks are rare..." etc. I do that sometimes. I just don't really concentrate on what people are saying and my brain switches to my default answer...which at the
moment is about sharks.

A while back our good friend Sara Quin of Tegan and Sara contacted our
publicist because she wanted to interview us. Our publicist contacted
us and said "ummm so this Sara Quin character wants to interview
you...don't you know her?"  We said "yes, we do know her. We talk to
her a lot but sure, why not. Let's have her ask us hard hitting
questions on the record". Hmmm actually it didn't really play out like
that. I think Sara just emailed us with some questions. They were hard
hitting. The results can be seen on this wonderful website.

We have eaten some Thai food and now we are watching lame infomercials
on TV. I have to say they are lame...otherwise I will probably end up
ordering a bo-flex. I mean, you can't deny the people on the ad look
cut. Damon would not be happy. I don't think it would fit in our van.

Tomorrow night (Tuesday March 24) we are playing at the Echo in LA where we join Canada's Wintersleep for the first of nine co-headline shows. We have so much fun playing in LA. We can't wait. Yes, we have already been to In N Out. Yes, we wore our never nudes in the van as we drove through the desert listening to Black Sabbath. Yes, we also listened to an audio book.

Ok that's it for now.

Talk soon baboons.

Heyyyyy buddddyyy!

How are you? Damon and I have just arrived in
Chicago. We have tonight off. Saturday night. We are going to PARTY!
Here is a photo of us having a party in our room...

This
week has been a little crazy. Crazy huh? So did your Mum's/Mom's see An Horse on The Late Show with David
Letterman? Ours did! My Mum didn't know what 'The Letterman' was until I
made her watch. It was way past her bed time. She insisted it better be
worth her staying up late because it meant she would be missing out on
her 5am gym "pump" class. I hope it was. Anyways here is a link so you
can show your Mum/Mom or you can watch it!

Our official website has gone live!
www.anhorse.com
It is a lovely site that has
been labored over with care. It still isn't 100% complete!!! It's still in it's infancy...we are onto
it! The online store is coming! SOON WE PROMISE! AND we will have some very
exciting merchandise to sell. Very exciting. At the moment it has pretty much
the same content as this here myspace page (but new site has lyrics, some new photos and more) but we will endeavor to keep it
different and fresh like a good tube of toothpaste.

It's been hard trying to keep up with everything this past week!
Thanks to all who made it out to our Canadian shows. Check it out! We
will be braving your borders again in late March/early April, check our profile page.

We couldn't tour one half of the country without doing the other.
It's lopsided. The border is a scary place for us. Damon and I come
from a vast island. The only way we cross borders is after spending
hours and hours on a plane. How strange that you can drive into another
country! Ha! Technology!

Tonight (Sunday 15th March) we are playing in Chicago. We
can't wait and we hope you can come on down if you live nearby. After
Chicago we hit Covington, Kentucky. Then we drive on down to Austin,
Texas for SXSW. Then many more shows.

Damon and I have our short jean shorts (never nudes)
ready and ironed. Today we even considered putting them on in the van
and turning the heat up, but when I slipped on some ice and fell over
in my jeans and thermals we quickly realised this was a silly idea.
Note, I use 's' instead of 'z' in realised. It's correct in Australia.
I wanted to point this out because I don't want the lovely folk in the
US thinking I am not being diligent with my spell check.

Well I better get back to the party. The place is starting to fill up and get crazy!...

Take care friends close and far away. We try to. That is why we didn't put our shortie shorts on today.

Kate and Damon.
