Casting Call for Modeling Documentary To be filmed in/around the NYC Area Summer 2009 New Faces is searching for Models, Agents, and Fashion Industry Experts to interview for its upcoming modeling documentary, Runway Diaries. The film will give a behind the scenes look at the modeling industry—what agents are looking for, the struggles that models face, how the internet has revolutionized the industry, etc. We are looking to interview models of all ages, types, genders and experience levels. The documentary will follow the chosen models as they move through the various stages of their careers, whether the model is struggling and just starting out, a working pro, or a retired supermodel, in hopes of capturing their "diary" on film. The goal of this documentary is to explore and present the often unseen side of the modeling/fashion industry. Topics up for discussion during interviews may range from specific beauty and exercise tricks; the model lifestyle, including the busy hours and long days, diets, partying, trips to various places, special events; controversial issues such as drug use and calorie counting; the issue of eating disorders and what “too thin” means for today’s industry. Collecting and piecing together this information in documentary format will provide viewers with an insight into the virtually concealed world of modeling and fashion; it will also enable us to predict and make conclusions about the future of the modeling industry. Anyone interested in being a part of this documentary should respond to this posting with their level of experience and a short paragraph on why they believe they are a good fit. If chosen, auditions will be conducted by Hilary Rowland and the rest of the NewFaces.com team. Filming will take place this summer in the New York Metro area. All models featured in the project will receive unrivaled exposure in the modeling industry.

Chinese Magazine Banned After Publishing Models Posing Over Earthquake Debris
A local lifestyle magazine in China was banned after publishing photos of models posing in debris left by Sichuan earthquake, which killed 50,000 people. The issue was released three days shortly after the earthquake. Not only that it was published just when the national mourning over the natural calamity was still fresh, the photo also shows scantily clad models posing against the backdrop of the disaster, some in just their underwear. Tsk, tsk, what were the photographers and magazine editors thinking? Sometimes, they became so creative they forget that art, modeling, and fashion photography is not detached from the social world. Even the government also temporarily shut down television entertainment networks, closed cinemas and other leisure venues to mourn the death of the earthquake victims. Then here comes this few Chinese people who wants to make an impression of eccentricity and indifference... Weee, sounds Chinese to us...

28 Pounds "Too Fat" For Runway Modeling?
At a young age, teenage model Alexandra Michael has discovered that women risk their lives to get a to-die-for figure. Alexandra Michael started modeling at the age of 15. The she heard people commenting about her "extra" pound and said that she need to shed off some weight to continue modeling in Dallas, New York and Paris. Because of the pressure to be thin for the fashion shows, she starved herself until she reached 102 from 130 pounds. Then, designers started to love her. Once on her way home to Texas, Alexandra Michael saw a clump of dry, brittle hair on her hand when she ran it through her hair. She then realized that something was wrong. Starving herself had caused her hair to fall. Worst, she did not have her period for over a year. And she had a very low energy level. Alexandra Michael came to a realization that there a lot of anorexic and bulimic models who starve themselves just to be able to stay in the modeling industry and walk the runway. Thus, Alexandra now sees the lifelong consequences in trying to be thin. Lucky for her, she was able to get out from the "ultra thin" trend in modeling. Now, she has become an active spokesperson against anorexia. In one of her talks, Alexandra Michael shared that anorexia and bulimia may result to heart failure, osteoporosis and infertility which are very serious. Boring Cindy Crawford

Supermodel Cindy Crawford, one of the most sparkling fashion icons of the 90's downplays her supermodel glamour when she said she is a boring supermodel.
Cindy says she missed out on fun when she first made it as a catwalk stunner - because she was too much of a good girl, not into the sex and drug thing that most of her contemporary supermodels are into these days.
Crawford says, "I regret that I wasn't wilder. I was working and I was nervous. I was the one in the corner with the book, being responsible."
But Cindy Crawford has live a good life, not losing her career and her dignity as a model. In fact she earned more as she aged with a good family of her own.
