The rumours are true - we're back.

Like Scooch, Boyzone and Celeopatra we're reforming - for one night only. And that night is tonight.

Join us at Revolution in Hull from 9 for our chart of the year. We'll be playing the most poptastic tracks that the year has offered, from the Go! Team to Darren Hayes, to M.I.A. to Britney and - as ever - cocktails are buy one get one free.

We'll probably play half of Girls Aloud's Christmas album too, if that's your kind of thing.

We'll be chucking the chart on this page tomorrow if you get too pissed to remember what you heard/can't be bothered to turn up.

So, for the very last time ever ever, join us at 9 for buy one, get one free cocktails and a pick & mix of the world's best pop music.

I am sat at home preparing some lovely musical delights for this evening, the final Chewing Gum at Revolution. Tonight is going to be a celebration of all of the music we love, if you will allow me a little cliche, I would describe it "all killer, no filler".

It may sound a tad self indulgent, but any requests tonight will have to be bloody good to get on in between the tracks we have lined up. Expect a mix of new songs we're predicting to be big when we are no more, along with songs we championed when nobody else was playing them.

This is where I'd like to reccomend an alternative night you could go to now Chewing Gum is no more, but there isn't one, we created Chewing Gum because nobody was doing cool, cutting edge pop music in Hull and they still aren't.

There are some fab nights around the country though, so if you're out and about in Manchester, check out Club Clique or HomoElectric. If you find yourself in London Town, there is the almighty Club Popjustice and the wonderful MissShapes to tantalise you with.

Please come along to our final swansong, our performance with one of the bands we have supported since the start, Dragonette, who are performing at Hull University with The Hoosiers. you can find the details around somewhere!

So now I'm going, off to Revolution one last time before we trundle off to that great pop dumper in the sky to frolic with all of those other casualities of the pop machine, Rachel Stevens, popworld, Mania, Top of the Pops, Smash Hits and CD:UK, here we come!

Tuesday, September 11, 2007

Monday will be the last ever Chewing Gum.

After over a year of playing the best in quirky, interesting and alternative pop, we are hanging up our headphones. As of Monday 24th, Revolution will be kicking off a weekly 'student anthems' night. Make of that what you will.

We'll be sticking up some downloads, self indulgent lists and such in the next week - and we hope that we can count on you popping down one last time on Monday, for (as ever) buy one, get one free cocktails and the best pop music in the entire world.

This week there is an album out what is very wonderous. We'll be playing lots of records from it. It is of course the wonderful Kala by M.I.A, featuring such massive hits as "Boyz" and the forthcoming top 200 smash "Jimmy".

We'll also be playing a selection of her "greatest hits", so don't worry, you're BOUND to have plenty of tracks to sing along to... providing you like you like your music tribal, noisy, tuneless and shrieked by an Amazonian banshee. We know we do.

See you tonight!

So, this week, the greatest Pop album since Spice World was released in the UK. Again.  This album comes in the shape of Robyn's self titled masterpiece.

Rather than drowning you in hyperbole (or 'hyper-bowl' of you're fucking N-Bed), we'll allow you to look at these nice videos. If you're not convinced that you must purchase the Robyn album immediately (and another copy of With Every Heartbeat, since she's only seven copies ahead of Kanye West), then you can fuck off, quite frankly.

Konichiwa Bitches Pyschotic rap brilliance

With Every Heartbeat You know this one

Handle Me Rumoured next single. Robyn and her Chav-Swedes

Be Mine! Best song on a flawless album. That makes it very good indeed.

Be Mine (ballad version) Not on the album, but beautiful all the same

Crash and Burn Girl MYSPACE POUT!

So that was nice, wasn't it? So... why are you still sat here? You have shopping to do.

Chewing Gum are very excited to announce that we will be playing some records in between live sets by the Hoosiers... wait! Come back!... and everyone's favourite British/Canadian electropoprock sleaze-mongers Dragonette.

The gig is taking place at Asylum (the Student Union, not an actual institution) on Monday 8th October, with tickets available at the bargain-tastic price of £5.

At the time of writing, there are a mere 148 tickets left, so grab this oportunity to grind with Dragonette while you can - the way things are going, they'll be gone by November

Firstly, sorry there was no setlist from last week, it was a rather hectic night. I had a family event and so didn't arrive until about 10:30 and Andy had to leave almost as soon as I arrived, as he had an early start the next day. Then to top it off, I felt as sick as a dog, so not really in the mood for writing lists of songs in flashing lights! I could barely read anything anyway, I felt so rubbish! However I soldiered on and played some great songs to the delight of everyone there.

Now, for the celebration part... Robyn is number 1 in the singles chart! Now, not one to blow my own trumpet, but I think you'll find that the first mention of Robyn in our blog was way back in January (the 6th, to be precise)... How on the ball are we?!

Oh, and Darren Hayes has entered the singles chart at 20, which is fantastic! A real victory for ACTUAL indie music in the charts this week (with Robyn and Darren both running their own labels), On The Verge... is amazing, as is the album, we'll be playing a couple of tracks from it tomorrow, so listen out for those.

Anyway, I'm off to watch Poirot now, so I shall see all of you lovlies tomorrow, have fun and take care.

Matt
