Baby Band - 2.4 “Bye Bye Lazer Van, Bye Bye” Thursday, 27 August 2009 Big day here on Syb Islands as we’re parting with our trusted friend Lazer Van. After 3 loyal years and over 100,000 miles under her belt(s) I’m truely sorry to see her go. Oh the memories. We’d only been with her for a few months when Eric’s over excited champagne christened the entire sticky interior outside of the club in Ypsilanti. Or when a tire blew out at sunset in New Mexico and a scooby doo villian suprisingly helped us with a jack. Or when we missed a McAllen show this past spring when the transmission seal blew. It wasn’t always rainbows, but she served us well. We’ll miss you Lazer Van. xoxo

Featuring Environmentally-Friendly Vendors, Services and Cutting Edge Music

Chicago's West Town will receive a fresh green coat this summer as it plays host to the first Green Music Fest, Saturday August 15th through Sunday, August 16th in Eckhart Park (1330 W. Chicago Avenue). The innovative green technology-themed event will reflect the hip and environmentally-conscious West Town community by fusing original live music with all green vendors and services.

The Green Theme

The brainchild of the West Town Chicago Chamber of Commerce, the Green Music Fest is where thousands of people who care for the environment will unite to enjoy high quality music and discover new ways to go "green." Vendors will be exclusively green or eco-friendly, whether selling crafts made with recycled materials or techie gadgets made with green components. Furthermore, fun-filled family activities strew throughout the weekend will directly fund improvements to the Eckhart Park playground.
With the support of the City of Chicago Department of Environment's Chicago Center for Green Technology, who is sponsoring the green section of the event, an estimated 60-plus green vendors and spons ors will participate in the inaugural Green Music Fest. The event will also be produced in the most eco-friendly way possible with bio-diesel fuel operated generators, biodegradable plastic cups, recycling and composting options, free bike valet at the Noble Street entrance of GMF courtesy of Active Transportation Alliance and Special Service Area 29, and much more. Learn about all of our Green Initiatives here!

The Live Music

The 2009 live music line up at Green Music Fest will be programmed by local live music venue Subterranean, which has a well-respected reputation in Chicago for booking top-notch, cutting edge talent. Click here for the lineup for Green Music Fest.
Admission to the Green Music Fest is $11.50/day in advance, two day pass available in advance for $20 through Ticketweb, and $15/day at the gate. Proceeds will offset the costs of the event in addit ion to benefiting the West Town Chicago Chamber of Commerce and the Eckhart Park Advisory Council which funds improvements to the park itself. Hours of operation both days are noon to 10 pm.

The Sidewalk Sale

The WTCCC has acquired a sidewalk sale permit for Chicago Avenue and for some participating businesses on Ashland Avenue. We have encouraged local businesses located on Chicago Avenue between 1100 W – 1600 W (and on Ashland between 800 N– 1200 N) to participate in the Green Music Fest sidewalk sale.
Swim Cafe, Architrouve Gallery, Realm Imports, Noble Grape, Flo, Five Star Bar, Green Zebra, Sonotheque, Mercury Cafe, Dove Tail, RelaX, Mexique, Natalino's... are just a few of the unique and impressive businesses, restaurants, and clubs located around Eckhart Park on Chicago Avenue for Green Music Fest patrons to discover.

Soooo.

We are playing The annual Three Floyd's Dark Lord Festival in Munster Indiana.

Whats that you ask?  Three Floyd's is an amazing brewery run by some
cool and hilarious motherfuckers.  Every year they have a festival, and
on this day you can buy their rare Russian Stout "Darklord".  Nerds
from all over the world come to buy it and then its all gone by the end
of the day. Woot.

Incelebration of this they have a big beerfest, with beer food, and ROCK!

This years lineup includes us (Sybris), The Waco Brothers and Pelican, plus many more im to lazy to type. here be  directions.

Did I mention it is free? Well not the beer but the festival.

And don't drink and drive.

I love you all.

Disaster lurks always, lying benign behind genuine joy. Like people who have 3 months to live and who smile because they don't even know they're sick. Or like in marriage in general. Or like the most boring act of spontaneous combustion or truck/man collision. Disaster is just there; hangin. It's not malicious, it's just there to grey things up a bit and, I suppose, to make us truly appreciate that genuine, uncorrupted joy. Minor disaster has brought us to some town called Beeville or Georgewest, Texas - a place, for the past 20 hours, we have so affectionately referred to as "this place". "People of This Place, we come from Chicago and our transmission blew out on our van, bring us to your bars." There are no bars in This Place. We are literally in a roach motel; waiting. Like expectant fathers while their wives give birth behind closed doors, sort of. Which means the van would've been "with van" which means someone porked the van. Eeeeew.
We were on our way to McAllen which is right at the bottom tippytoe of the state when the van started to spew smoke. We were really stoked to play because people actually really like us down there. It was kind of the one show that promised to be great. Great bands, awesome people that we'd made friends with, and a growing scene. I just want to say to McAllen that we are so bummed that we didn't make it down this time but that we shall return in a non-knocked-up van.
What else? A lot of this lil tour has been great. First off, we didn't get any pizza at the show in St. Louis, so that ruled. We did meet some gentlemen from Minneapolis who put on a great show - they're called Pictures of Then. Then we stayed at Shawn's friend from high school's house. Her name was Elizabeth and I will love her forever because she gifted me with a mandolin. Mandy! I love you! Then we played in Norman, OK. It was cold but there were cheap drinks and we ended up partying with a goat named Sandy. She was so tiny and cute. That night put some holes in our brains. Then we were off to Fort Worth. We'd never been there before but it ruled. We played with some awesome bands. Madeline from Athens and Diamond Center from Lubbock represented! Both bands have ladies in them singing and playing guitar and they both rock. It's refreshing sharing the stage with other chicks, especially when they are cool as hell and super talented. Not that there's anything wrong with the usual brodown that a typical rock show entails. Thanks to Brandy and Jana from Diamond Center (and their parents) for letting us crash.
Oh, San Antonio, what can I say? Such good intentions and such great movies playing (Texas Chainsaw Massacre2, Spaceballs) and so many people to see the show, it all could've been a dream night. But, alas, some turd stole Eric's cymbal bag from a hiding spot. Now, maybe it was an accident, and if that's the case you are not a turd, just blind or something. If anyone who was at the Rock Bottom show on Saturday March 14 and has heard anything about some stolen cymbals from a band called sybris, let us know. That's a lot of money in them there clangy clangs.
Back up to Denton. This was a sweet show. It was part of some kind of SXSW spillover of bands festival. The obvious highlight of the night was a band from Tel Aviv called Monotonix. All I have to say is that they're going to be touring the states for a while and if you see they are coming anywhere near you, go! It's pointless to try and describe it. Just do yourself a favor and check them out.
So, as witnessed above, you can tell that we have been having a pretty awesome lil tour with just a few snags along the way. And we just keep smiling like disaster isn't kickin' it inside of us. Light a candle for us at the end of the world.
As always,
Angela
