Sup, We are very excited. We set a date to go in and record our new album "Cave Painting" with the wonderful producer/pal Chris Freeland in mid-November. And yes, it will be a full-length, 45+ minute, release. Although we really do consider our other albums to be "albums." Some of the greatest albums ever made only clock in at 35 minutes. Better to stay a lil hungry than be overfed right?
With that said, we have a another new release "Return into Earth" that you got to check out! It's available at the Sound Garden, True Vine, and Normals. It's a single 32 minute aural journey that is perfect for fall drives, walks, mind expansion sessions, with a book, after night of whiskey, or a early wake up in bed. I kid, but seriously, the Sris are very proud of this release. If you are a fan of freeform psychedelia, we are sure you will enjoy this album. Please support our "recording fund" by checking out a copy at one of these fine local establishments or by ordering directly from us. The details and paypal address are located in our bio section. We appreciate your support and promise a prompt ship.
We won't be playing locally probably till at least December. Unless, it's a ridiculous offer that we can't refuse. Feel free to make us one. We are looking to play out of town...so all New York, Philly, DC friends please hit us up.
Hope you all are well and enjoying the fall. Love, The Sris

Good News!:
We have 2 new songs done and ready for u to hear live, also we are nearly done with a third which'll round out the songs that will be on our new album. That means we're going to be recording in the next couple months. We also expect to get this album done a lot quicker so u might expect a fall release, early or late is too soon to say. Looks like it'll be 9 songs & around 40-45 minutes. It will feature songs ranging from short to long, fast to slow, & vocal to instrumental. In a word - potpourri (but will smell more like grass).
We are also going to release a 1 song album in the next month or so. It's a 32 minute song recorded in the owl den back in august 2007 that we mapped out for a show we were playing in a place we couldn't fit all our equipment into. Even though we did have some of our regular gear we also used some acoustic instruments and smaller keyboards and other things. It's a winding, building, psychedelic/free-folk experience & will for sure be dug by anyone that likes our farther/further out instrumental stuff.
There are 2 shows we have confirmed for august, one here at Talking Head with Weekends & Heavy Hands(ny) & the other the next day in dc (also with Heavy Hands). We will have more confirmed soon for june/july, and we are trying to get ourselves together for a mini tour or two. If anyone can be of assistance with shows in the midwest, northeast, south or even closer by for shows around july or early august, holler @ us! Thanks!
be easy, luv Sri Aurobindo
p.s. ya'll seen the Kenneth Anger film Lucifer Rising? Pyramids, UFO's, Lava & a really killer soundtrack!

Yes, Pow Wow has been rescheduled for this sunday the 10th. Unfortunately, we won't be able to make it this year. We had all of our chips on last weekend. Damn rain. Damn shame. But we've been productive...2 new songs are pretty much in-the-bag. We are looking forward to playing them for you all sometime soon. In the meantime, the sun is finally breaking through after what seemed like a month of rain, I'm going to enjoy it! Thanks for your support.

April Fools Edition '09 Know your Product Review By: Bret McCabe
When you name your band after a Hindu spiritual leader--one that ventured into writing about the future evolution of the human being/psyche--chances are high that your band isn't creating fey, chirpy pop songs or twee nonsense. This local, wooly-haired quartet plays unabashedly heavy psych, aiming for that outer space occupying the area between your ears. Its debut CD--limited to 199 copies in hand-silk-screened sleeves--delivers a half hour's worth of head massages over six tracks. Recording engineer Chris Freeland nicely captures the band's beefy bottom end--drummer Daniel Chenault and the shared bass or bass organ duties provide an emphatic oomph to Sri Aurobindo's smoky grooves, providing a suitable thickness for the band's beefy guitar swagger. On cuts such as "Vertical Electric," the bass provides the lumbering riff, freeing the guitar to jettison rhythmic duties in favor of fuzzy textures and trebly washes.
The lone complaint here is the band's fondness for a solid mid-tempo pace. The songs aren't all in the same meter, but they're close enough that they start to feel as if the music is always timed to the same stately clock. If you've caught the band live you know it can push and pull its tempos a tad, but with a little more sense of dynamics in its arrangements these tracks could approach Silberbart or Guru Guru levels of anarchic heaviness. Sri Aurobindo comes closest to such split-personality shifts in "Somersaults in Thoughts," a 6-minute-and-40-second odyssey that witnesses the group meandering around at its comfortable pace for nearly three minutes before erupting into an overcharged half minute and then calmly defrosting to an intravenous-drip's patience around minute five, where the band camps out in deep inner-space reflection for the song's duration.
Thanks to City Paper & Bret McCabe for the review.
Also, thanks to Dave Heumann for the review on the Arbouretum Blog.
We still have a few copies left of the first press of 199...but a 2nd edition of 199 with different artwork is in the works. Hopefully, one day, we can touch these songs on wax too. Feel free to contact us on myspace to order a copy through paypal. They are $12 America-bound $15 abroad
Thanks to all who have supported us by picking up a copy of the album and checkin' us out live around town. We are bananas for the Spectrum (aka Sonic Boom) & Pontiak show this month. You don't wanna miss that! They will performing Spacemen 3 classics! We are busy working on some new songs for upcoming shows and finishing up the inner workings of a second album that is going to be ready to record when it's warmer outside.
Hope to see you soon. Thanks for your support! The Sris

I Think it's a shame that we haven't put up any different songs or anything really for a long while. Maybe u agree? Perhaps u don't care at all & just like to read blogs of bands u don't like to sneer at the individuals. Also perfectly fine, please enjoy through squinted eyes. We will be changing things around very soon, taking down most of our old songs and replacing them with better played & recorded versions from our album (no longer due for a fall release!). We're also gonna replace the videos on the page with some from other shows including pow wow. The album is being mastered as we speak & we hope to get it back within a week. There seems to be a good chance that we'll initially not put it out on vinyl but on more compact record shaped discs & self releasing it. We shall see. Also, we are playing on the radio WMUC 88.1 fm this sunday at 6 pm and are getting a copy of the performance, so if all goes well we'll probably be putting up a song or two from that. Thanks for reading this even if u hate me/us, though i don't see why we can't be cool, and thanks for being patient with us u gorgeous motherfuckers.

What a long strange trip it's been...our album that is. But it sounds great! We are mixing sometime in the next week and then it's getting shipped off to be mastered asap. Expect a fall release. It will go nice with the leaves changin' and all.

Due to a change of date, we will unfortunately not be playing at the Cake Shop this month. We hope to make it up to NYC soon...maybe with a record to sell too! Any friday night gigs? hit us up dudes! We'll make the trip. It's been a rough month for the sris, we're all mad busy, bad car accidents, and even car theft, but we are working on new songs and getting ready to finish up the album. Baltimore. We hope to see you soon too...just waiting for the perfect opportunity...it'll come. We also apologize for any confusion with the talking head gig this month.

I want to go!
Last Friday was a wonderful night at the Talking Head. Thanks to all the heads that made it out. We were a lil ambitious in our set order, but that aside, we kicked out the jams. Thank you again Jeff for another great live recording.
