The Artists:
The Glitch Mob

Taking influences from hip-hop, rock and experimental electronic genres, The Glitch Mob have crafted a new form of futuristic dance music. Their wicked combination of ferocious bass, neck-snapping drums and complex melodies has earned them a worldwide grassroots fanbase. What started as a loose affiliation soon stuck as edIT, Ooah and Boreta found themselves frequently playing the same shows, and eventually collaborating during sets. Their live performance is a complete reimagination of the laptop DJ paradigm as they flow like a seasoned jazz trio – each taking the lead at intuitive moments – layering chords, vocal snippets and drum patterns into an overwhelming digital wall of sound.
What has resulted is the very distinct Glitch Mob aesthetic, blending the head-nod factor of hip-hop tempos with outrageous basslines and microscopic production trimmings. Alongside other L.A. luminaries like Flying Lotus and Daedelus, The Glitch Mob have been torch bearers for the exploding West Coast instrumental hip-hop slash electronic movement. Individual members of The Glitch Mob have released music via their own Glitch Mob Unlimited imprint, a subsidiary of Alpha Pup Records. The year 2009 has seen the release of Glitch Mob remixes for TV On The Radio and STS9, cementing their reputation for jaw-dropping, cutting-edge production. The Glitch Mob plan to release their debut full length album in early 2010.

MartyParty

MartyParty writes pretty songs that turn hard and heavy when you least expect it. Just like life itself. This is music for those that appreciate melody and hooks, but lust for beat and heavy bass.
Marty Folb aka MartyParty – born and raised in South Africa, found his way to San Francisco 15 years ago as a software programmer. After discovering the music of the west coast and wanting to “Africanize” it, Marty picked up Ableton Live and began to learn the art of Music production in 2007. He soon released his first digital album “Walkerville to the West Coast”, named for the town he grew up in and a tribute to his path to the US.
Marty got tired of how all electronic music followed the same formula so he set off on a mission to re-invent electronic music and cross-pollinate it with all other music he loves. Marty’s production can best be defined as IDM based hip-hop.
Marty started a movement back towards the power of the melody and instrumental composition. Song writing has always been Marty’s passion instead of the typical beat style dj production. The music is a hybrid of electronic music and hip-hop that together forms a totally new flavor of urban beat with the pretty hypnotic elements of electronic hard-hitting bass.
The MartyParty live performance is an intense journey that pulls together gorgeous instrumental, bass heavy songs, and overlays these with acapellas and samples played live. The result is a truly “crunky” and “hypy” experience like no other. Marty has been playing his live sets to crowds all over the US.
Marty partnered with Josh Mayer (Ooah) of the infamous Glitch Mob, to form PANTyRAiD. Signing to Marine Parade Records, they produced and are releasing their debue album “The Sauce” in June 2009. This project has already received rave reviews.
MartyParty can be heard streaming at his website www.martyparty.org where he streams all of his original compositions as he writes them, before any remixing or collaboration.

*Jupit3r*

The Do LaB is proud to present
Solvent + Michna + Kether
live in Hollywood on December 3rd!!!
We are proud to present a night of music unlike anything we've done before. You may not be familiar with these artists but we think you're gonna love what they're up to. Take a few moments to listen to their work and see what you think...
Solvent and Michna are both from the world renowned record label Ghostly International! And Kether is from California's own Muti Music.
Get your tickets here now!!
The Artists:
SOLVENT

Solvent is Jason Amm, a robot music composer, analog synthesizer fetishist, and co-founder of the renowned Suction Records label. Born in Zimbabwe in 1972, Amm currently resides in a room full of machines in Toronto, Canada. He has been releasing his unique brand of synthesizer-pop music since 1997, and is best known for his releases on Morr Music (2001’s Solvent City) and Ghostly International (2004’s Apples & Synthesizers, 2005’s Elevators & Oscillators).
Solvent has created his own unique version of electro-pop: too elegant and sincere for the electroclash set, too complex and contemporary to sound like it was recorded in 1981, and too seeped in the time-honoured traditions of melody, songwriting and hands-on synthesis to be lost in the overcrowded world of IDM. Along with some notable remixes for Soft Cell, Alter Ego, and Adult.,
Solvent has also contributed standout tracks to several influential electronica compilations in recent years, including Putting The Morr Back In Morrissey (Morr Music), Disco Nouveau (Ghostly International), and Misery Loves Company (Ersatz Audio). His songs have also included in high-profiles DJ mix CDs, including Sven Vath’s Sound of the 5th Season (Cocoon), Dr. Lektroluv’s Lektroluv 5 (541), and Death in Vegas’s Fabriclive 23 (Fabric London).
Today, Solvent is widely regarded in the underground electronica community as being at the forefront of electro-pop’s return to form. UK magazine The Wire recently described Solvent as part of a new generation of composers “gleefully blurring the lines” between modern techno and vintage techno-pop. Solvent currently records exclusively for Ghostly International, and has been touring extensively since 2004, having shared the stage with Adult., Legowelt, Bola, Junior Boys, Matthew Dear, Lusine, Lowfish, and others.

MICHNA

Growing up in both NY and Miami, Michna (real name: Adrian Michna) is that unique breed of artist that draws from both the urban and the tropical. As a youngster, Adrian started DJing parties with cassettes and playing trombone in a band on the NYC bar circuit including the infamous Lion’s Den and CBGB’s.
After moving to Miami in the mid-90’s, he co-founded the pioneering Secret Frequency Crew, who deftly mixed instrumental hip-hop and electronic into a coherent whole. Their appropriately titled 12” “Miami Eyes,” became an underground hit and caught the attention of a then-unknown Diplo who would ask him for production work. SFC’s debut LP “Forest of the Echo Downs” also put Adrian on Ghostly’s radar as it was one of label founder Sam Valenti IV’s top LPs in 2004.
Currently based in Brooklyn NY, Adrian Michna (aka DJ Egg Foo Young) has become a staple in the NYC club scene, known for his chameleon like abilities. Outside of the club, he has been able to pursue a few hobbies such as building furniture, bicycles, photography, skeeball, and gloss lustre collages. While working on his solo album, he also found time to remix the mysterious Jandek (the only artist ever to do so) and produce on Brazilian group Bonde Do Role’s debut LP for Domino/Mad Decent. It seems Adrian has found his stride as a solo artist, bringing together his myriad influences into a succinct sonic personage. His debut LP “Magic Monday” and the elevating single “Triple Chrome Dipped” are works of distinction and taste, getting asses on the floor in style.

KETHER

KETHER consists of two groundbreaking West Coast based producers, Tim Hauser and Stephan Jacobs, who write, breathe, create & produce music. KETHER Music is composed using analog hardware & software, creating an organic-electric live sound scape feel within its airwaves.
KETHER is based on the idea of two opposite spectrums of sound, coming together to form one in unison. The word ‘Keter’ means crown in Hebrew.
KETHER is best described as pure consciousness, beyond all categories, timeless. This Omni present state of mind, formed by two elements of dark and light, creating a neutral ground for sound waves to flow.
Stephan Jacobs(Square-1) and Tim Hauser(Ruff Hauser) refer to their style as intermingling-melodic & sub-sonic frequencies, creating a very open space for brain neurons to assimilate the experience. The melody arrangements are written in specific notes to stimulate certain energy chakras in the body.
KETHER has currently developed an all LIVE showcase, featuring elements of their upcoming album called “Marine Layer”. The live performance uses analog Korg drum machines, effects processors, midi controllers, Guitar as well as software.
KETHER's style of music has created a hybrid-sub-genre of its own kind, blending musical interpretations of Minimal, Dubstep, IDM, Breaks & Glitch~

The Artists:
BLUETECH Bluetech on Myspace

A classically trained pianist and master of the art of software production. Bluetech's love of the melodic and exquisite sense of sound design makes him one of the most ingenius producers today.
Bluetech's sound emerges from his custom-built Reaktor instruments and software based synthesisers as a primordial electro-dub alchemy. While encompassing musical touches from different parts of the globe, he presents a total blend, crossing genres and borders.
Bluetech has created a label called Native State Records to release his own music and music from other artists who cross boundaries between ambient/chill and more idm/experimental sounds.
Not content to stay at home, Bluetech has toured extensively and performed in Japan, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Croatia, France, Denmark, Mexico, United States, and Canada.
Bluetech has released two albums on Aleph Zero Records, an internationally acclaimed chill label run by recording artist Shulman, and is currently working on a third for release in 2008. Aleph Zero brought Bluetech's music to the attention of the international chill audience, and helped to launch his career worldwide through strong support and beautiful packaging. Stay tuned for the next chapter!
MiMOSA

Mimosa takes listeners on a journey through warm rhythmic sound-scapes, with melodies and vocal samples smoothly crafted to help navigate the sonic terrain. Using basslines inspired by hip-hop classics like Too Short and Dr Dre, combined with deep psychedelic textures reminiscent of the downtempo and midtempo output by Tipper and Bluetech, Mimosa blends the range of styles to create his own fresh take on the west coast sound. Mimosa's debut EP release, Hostilis, presents tracks with heavy-hitting low frequencies, sexy grooves, and uplifting dub infusions, floating between instrumental Hip Hop and Dubstep.
ELECTRIC DANDELION

Electric Dandelion was conceived for the sole purpose of taking audiences on musical journeys by spinning beautiful soundscapes and nasty wicked beats. Blessed with the natural gift of rhythm, he began learning about fat beats at the age of 10 when he started playing drums, and continued his musical education in college, where he learned the importance of melody as he studied singing and guitar.
Consequently, Electric Dandelion began DJ'ng after being inspired by the amazing spirit of the Burning Man community and the love for music in the underground scene. Over the past five years, he has graced the world with amazing downtempo, IDM, and breakbeat sets, and played a wide range of events and festivals, including Coachella, Earthdance (LA), Burning Man, Electric Picnic(Ireland) and Ascension(LA). In 2004, Dandelion toured India (Bombay, Chennai, Goa), playing breakbeat to packed audiences and pioneering the first successful American breakbeat tour.
Electric Dandelion has been a resident DJ with Space Island(LA) since 2004.

A message about Lighting in a Bottle.
.... .. It has come to our attention, based on the feedback from our last email, that we need to clarify our situation regarding Lightning in a Bottle. Many of you have written us heartfelt emails asking us to stay at The Live Oak Campground and limit the ticket sales so that the venue could accommodate the festival. It was originally our plan to continue to host LIB at Live Oak, but unfortunately this is not an option for us. The camp is a county park and the county has philosophical differences with our festival, which is completely out of our control. We did try to work through these differences with them, but unfortunately we were not able to do so. We would love nothing more than to have been able to stay there and throw LIB as planned. LIB has also been growing over the past three years and we hear your concerns about not letting it get too big. The expansion that we anticipate will be natural and not forced so please know that we have every intention of maintaining the intimate family vibe and we are not setting out to turn this into a massive festival.
Our intention is, and always will be, to throw the highest quality event for all of you to enjoy. We are pursuing a few more leads for LIB this year but if it doesn’t happen in 2009 we promise you that we will be back next year. Thank you for your continued support throughout this process. Love, The Do Lab | ..
