I was recently asked why our terrifying tune 'Night of the Living Dead' sounds different on World Horror Network's first compilation CD & our MySpace page... It evoked a long history lesson all about LEFT for DEAD, and I thought somebody might be interested, so here it is...
The track on the first WHN comp was recorded in our rehearsal space by me (Johnny Demonic) using a low budget 8 track digital recorder, cheap mixing board & even cheaper mics... This was the first song ever recorded by LFD... the lineup for this cut was: Johnny Demonic on rythm guitar & lead vox, Bucket on bass, Sam Hainus on lead guitar & backing vox & our friend Brandon Hanson on drums...
This original NOTLD track was included on WHN's first compilation CD... In fact, it was recorded specifically for this compilation... We also cut 'The Dead are Coming for Me' at this same time, only our first drummer, Dead Serious, cut the drum takes...
The response to NOTLD on the WHN comp was awesome & we decided we should release a demo... We booked some time at a multi-million dollar studio (Bruce Kirby at BoHo Digitalia) and cut 'Living Abortion' and 'Tonight you Die' in one 6 hour session (these tracks would later be included on our debut release 'It Begins')
The response to the 4 song demo was tremendous, especially from a few of our (soon to be very close) friends we had only met in passing on the World Horror Network (www.worldhorrornetwork.com) online forum... Sinister & Havok... Our good friend Shane Diablo had been talking about starting a record lable dedicated to Horror Punk for quite some time, but lacked the financial backing to really get the project off the ground. Havok & Sinister watched the interest in our band (and Shane's band diemonsterdie) continue to grow... they thought both bands were a good gamble & fronted the money to make Shane's dream a reality.. Dr. Cyclops Records (www.drcyclopsrecords.net) was born. We were asked to sign on, and jumped at the chance.
A few months later and we were back in the BoHo studio to cut tracks for the full length 'It Begins' ... we re-cut 'NOTLD & 'Dead are Coming'... The version of NOTLD that is up on our MySpace page is the version included on the album... the band line up for this cut (and the entire 'It Begins' album) was: Johnny Demonic on R Guitar & lead vox, Bucket on bass, Sam Hainus on lead guitar & backing vox & Meatwhistle of diemonsterdie fame on drums...
a few other tasty tidbits... we have a song titled 'Heart of Stone' that was also recorded at BoHo for release on the 2nd WHN comp... band line up was Johnny D on lead vox & R Guitar, Bucket on bass, Sam H on Lead guitar & back vox & Cordaver on drums...
the new WHN comp is due for release around Halloween '06 & it will include a new LFD track titled 'Manimal' that we recorded at Sonic Doom Studio (my shop... www.MySpace.com/sonicdoomstudio ... I've attained much better gear & skills since I recorded NOTLD 2 years ago) also, a few more songs will go up on MySpace for free download soon.. these will be recorded at Sonic Doom on Aug 19... This session will include a re-work of Heart of Stone, Bury me Deep, Bloody Mary, Deep Black Sea, and possibly a re-working of a few of the old faves... possibly even a cover of The Cure's 'Just Like Heaven'...
the lineup for these new tracks (and our premanent band lineup) is: Johnny Demonic on rythm guitar & lead vox, Bucket on bass, Grave Sanchez on lead guitar & backing vox & Cordaver on drums...
other little known facts about 'It Begins' :
Cordaver makes his first appearance on the 'It Begins' album... he plays drums on the 'live' version of 'the Dead are Coming for Me'... the 'hidden' track #12... There is exactly 6 mins & 66 seconds of silence from the last audible note of 'Mother's Watching' to the first crowd sounds of 'The Dead are Coming' hidden track... there are at least 3 backwards messages on the album, including 1 from Bruce Kirby @ BoHo & 1 from Girlie Demonic... Mercury Rising (diemonsterdie) & Freak-o-Suave (Anything That Moves) help sing backing vox on a few songs.. they also helped with hand claps (My Machine) and finger snaps (Beware the Moon)... LFD actually recorded the entire album 2 times due to Hard Drive issues at BoHo... we all felt that the 2nd time around was better, and also included 'Mother's Watching', a tune was not written during the first sessions... in fact, about 1/4 of the lyrics were written on the spot during the vocal takes... the first sessions (that were lost) took 1 full day (16 hours) & 2 additional 6 hours sessions... the 3rd & final 6 hour session is when we discovered the hard drive crash & we needed to start over... 2 full days (16 hours each) later & the album was done
A special thanks goes out to all of our fans & families for all the love and support over these last couple of years, especially our family at Dr. Cyclops Records: Shane Diablo, Sinister & Havok... thanks for taking a chance on our band... we really do appreciate it, and we look forward to growing with you into the world dominating power that Dr. C is destined to be... We love you all
