My good friend John Gilbert Leavitt is releasing the EP "Pride at 40" which will include a song called Pride, a 6 minute history of the LGBT movement. I took the tracks from Johns original and enhanced the drums, gave it a funky bassline, did some vocals, remixed remixed and polished up. Vocals are sung by John, Kevin Hannan and myself.

Hey guys! Support Bear Music and Win! Michael and I, in our ever increasing efforts to get big furry men with guitars and microphones out there on stages across the USA, have come up with a donation campaign that will have some benefits for our supporters as well. I guess we are taking a cue from PBS and trying to give people something special to thank them for their support. Bearapalooza Nation 2008 continues to gain momentum and we are super excited, but it's still incredibly expensive to do this, so every bit of sponsorship or donation we get really helps our artists. If you can support us with a donation, Thank You, if not, you can also support us by coming to a show, spreading the word, checking out the artists websites, or just dropping us a comment of support. Thanks again to everyone who has supported us over the years. !!

Bearapalooza is an independent grassroots project supporting artists of our community. Organizers and artists are only compensated from door proceeds, donations and sponsorship, and this often does not even cover travel, hotels, equipment, advertising, and other expenses. Generous donations can help us continue to bring fantastic events to the community and give emerging artists a chance to perform, and share thier talents.

DONATE AND WIN: CONTEST & VIP BENEFITS

- All donations of $20.00 or more will enter you into a contest to win a Bearapalooza artist music package with signed CDs from all your favorite Bearapalooza artists, Bearapalooza memorabilia, merchandise and more !!!!

- Patrons who donate $50.00 or more will recieve 2 VIP passes to one Bearapalooza 2008 performance* of thier choice.

- Patrons who donate $150.00 or more will recieve 2 VIP passes to ALL 2008 Bearapalooza performances* and be entered into a contest to win a guitar signed by Bearapalooza artists.

TO DONATE AND WIN: Visit: http://www.bearapalooza.com/donate.html
  • When making a donation - please enter your Email adress in the "Purpose" line so that we may confirm your benefits and contest entries

* NOTE: THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE PERFORMANCES SPONSORED BY ANOTHER ORGANIZATION FOR EVENTS WITH A FIXED PRICE SUCH AS PHILLY, BEAR TREK, TIMBERFELL AND SAWMILL. VIP's WISHING TO ATTEND THESE PEFORMANCES WILL NEED TO PAY THE ENTRANCE FEES ESTABLISHED BY THE HOST ORGANIZATIONS, BUT WILL BE GIVEN SPECIAL SEATING, MERCHANDISE PACKAGES, AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO INTROUDUCE A PERFORMER.

Sing Out - to Benefit Nashville's OutCentral
Event Showcases Community's Musical Talent

Reserve Friday, September 21 at 7 p.m., for Sing Out!, a benefit concert for Nashville's first GLBTQIF Cultural Center, OutCentral.  According to producer Freddy Freeman, the event will showcase a diverse lineup of the best GLBT vocal artists and musicians.  "I'm excited to share this opportunity to give back to the community," Freeman commented.  "We hope this is the first of many cultural events that will feature talent from across the country."

The Café at Outloud in Nashville will host Sing Out! on Friday, September 21 at 7:00 PM. Scheduled performers include Steff Mahan, Namoli Brennet, Freddy Freeman and Friends, Matthew Ebell, Tim Toonen and Abby McDowell.  A donation of $10.00 is requested, but no amount will be refused. Sister Right of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will emcee.

The Café at Outloud is located at 1707 Church Street in Nashville and is a smoke and alcohol free environment.  Its expanding menu of coffee, teas, and light fare is prepared in house using as many fresh, locally grown, and homemade ingredients as possible.

About the Artists

STEFF MAHAN

Sweet and soulful is the sound of alt-country's Steff Mahan. With a voice that is pure and powerful and lyrics that are heart-crafted and rock-solid, it's hard not to get hooked on the emotional truth that comes out of this born songwriter's mouth. Nashville's The City Paper says Steff is "simply a wicked cool singer/songwriter," and The Nashville Rage adds her "heartfelt delivery has a charm all its own."Meanwhile, Asheville, North Carolina's Mountain Xpress believes that Steff's "pop-country sound and candid lyrics make (her) a sure bet." Succeeding largely on her own terms, Steff plays music because she loves it and because she wants to share this love with others. It's exactly this desire which allows her to captivate an audience; to take them on an intimate tour of her music; to stay long after her shows talking to everyone; to call nearly every person she meets a friend.

NAMOLI BRENNET

Tucson-based songwriter namoli brennet has honed her craft through hundreds of performances and thousands of miles on the road. This hardworking and prolific performer has independently produced and released 5 CDs since 2002 on her own label, Girl's Gotta Eat records. She's toured the country many times over, making stops at the San Diego Indie Music Fest, DC Pride, Chicago's Queer is Folk Fest, Boston's Club Passim, and hundreds of coffee shops, clubs, festivals, colleges and house concerts. Along the way she's had the privilege of sharing the stage with Melissa Ferrick, Jill Sobule, Michelle Shocked and spoken-word artist Alix Olson. She's a 3-time Outmusic award nominee who's been featured in Performing Songwriter Magazine, The Advocate and the Chicago Free Press. Her music has received airplay in Houston, LA, Philadelphia, NYC, San Francisco, Portland, New Haven, Chicago, as well as overseas in Australia and France. She's an intense, passionate and gifted performer who is as moving as she is entertaining.

"Brennet sings and plays with an intensity and intelligence that can't be ignored."
- Performing Songwriter Magazine

MATTHEW EBEL

He's been called a soulful white guy, an acoustic geek-rocker, and the love child of Elton John and Billy Joel. His fans know him as everything from Matthew to Birdman to simply "Hot Wings". Whatever you call him, though, Matthew Ebel is more than just a singer-songwriter, he's a space pirate captain that takes his fans and friends beyond the mundane. In the spring of 2002 Matthew crammed all of his stuff into a tiny UHAUL trailer and dragged it behind his car to Nashville. A little more than a year later he found himself playing the Grand Ole Opry with Mercury Records artist Billy Currington.

As a testament to the power of an independent artist, his album Beer & Coffee came into being with little more than a Macintosh computer and some help from Matthew's devoted friends. Once the album was completed, Matthew turned to emerging new mediums to spread the word - namely podcasting and Second Life. Thanks to the power of the music and the pioneering spirit of podcasters, Matthew's reputation quickly spread across the globe as one of the biggest names in new media music.

FREDDY FREEMAN & FRIENDS

With his "ear to the ground, listening for a sound," Freddy Freeman shares what he hears with his audience and his fellow musicians. His sound is filled with warmth, honesty, and soul, but knows no genre, mixing Country, Rock, Folk, and R&B influences into a rich stew of American Pop Music. After developing his sound in New York, both solo and with a band, he created Bearapalooza, a showcase of musicians of the Bear community, which has done successful festivals in NY, Philly, Seattle, and Nashville, as well as Q-nity, a showcase of diverse queer artists. Now living in Nashville TN, Freddy has released his long awaited album "Break the Silence" and is continuing to produce local music events in the GLBT Community. He is joined for this performance by his partner Jay Freeman on Djembe and vocals,  local Singer-Songwriter Charlie K. Brown on guitar and vocals, and violinist Josh Lloyd.

TIM TOONEN AND ABBY MCDOWELL

Local favorites Tim & Abby have been entertaining Nashville for years. The combination of these two powerhouse performers is greater than the sum of its parts. Trading lead vocals and harmonies, Tim & Abby deliver a powerful mix of Tim's Country Rock originals and soulful covers of a diversity of styles. With just two voices and a guitar, Tim & Abby will have you on your feet, clapping and singing along. This dynamic duo is not to be missed.

I want to tell everyone I know about something very special that is happening. It seems that some of the guys who have played Bearapalooza in the past have decided to go on tour together. Most of the guys on the tour are Bearapalooza regulars and will be at Sawmill in early October just before the tour starts. They are calling it "Bears on the Run" and will be touring throughout the midwest in October 2007. This is an exciting addition to the ever-growing world of Bear Music, and I couldnt be more proud that these guys are out there making it happen for themselves. Please make sure not to miss this show if it is coming through your town. Like all independent tours and festivals, they need our support. I have worked with these guys enough to know that the show will be nothing short of spectacular.  Please read the information below from Shannon Grady about this exciting tour.

It's been a while since I have put out a newletter. There is much to update everyone on. Break the Silence is trying to find it's groove with the listening public. It's a strong record, of which I am very proud, but I havent been able to get out and promote as much as I would like. It needs a lot of word of mouth to build up a following. If there is anybody you know who would like to review it, or you can talk about it on your blog or podcast or whatever, it might help. Also vote for Break the Silence at
