It has been almost ten years since The Devil-Ettes performed in Las Vegas. That was way back in the days of the Las Vegas Grind Garage Rock shows. NOW we have been given the opportunity for an encore performance with Viva Le Fever at the Burlesque Hall of Fame weekend in Las Vegas!! The Devil-Ettes did a special dance with Viva le Fever at the last Tease-O-Rama in October and the crowd went wild! NOW we will do it again including a homage to 1960s go go.

We hope you can join us in Las Vegas!!

Her life now involves regular blood draws, intravenous drug treatments, and trips to a specialist in Chicago. WOMEN A GO-GO
Devil-Ettes Retro 'gals' have been dancing for 10 years, drawing inspiration from the go-go '60s

The Devil-Ettes have been shaking things up for 10 years....

Sometimes girls just want to have fun.

That's the deal each of these go-go dancing dames had to make to become a Devil-Ette. The group celebrates 10 seasons of shaking things up with a Prom Party Au Go Go! at the Rickshaw Stop tonight.

"The Devil-Ettes began as a bunch of retro-loving gals who love dancing and having fun," says Baby Doe, artistic director and founder. "We were sick of all these scenes filled with pretentious people who were way too cool for school. We wanted to do something that celebrated being a woman."

As the Devil-Ettes soon found out, there were plenty of people who wanted to party for that same cause.

Their first gig was at a 1998 company Christmas party for Radio Valencia, where all of the ladies worked. They opened up for a couple of bands, including Virginia Dare, who dubbed the dancing girls the Dare Devil-Ettes. After stealing the show, Baby Doe and company were bombarded with good vibes from the crowd, including tons of gig and audition requests.

Soon after, the Devil-Ettes dropped the "Dare" and spent the next decade twisting the nights away.

"Back then, a lot of people hadn't ever seen dancing acts at a rock 'n' roll club," says Baby Doe, who rates the Devil-Ettes as a PG-13 version of burlesque dancing. "Sometimes the crowd would stand there in silence and just look at us. It wasn't until we'd finish our act and bow that people would clap like crazy."

The Devil-Ettes have since added emcee Juan Rapido, who reminds the crowd that it's OK to hoot and holler, whistle and belly up to the stage.

Baby Doe says the spirit of the '60s speaks to their mission of just having a good time. To be true to their school, the Devil-Ettes make an extra effort to deliver an authentic go-go dancing act. Working as a collective, they spend hours examining old '60s beach party films, television shows, records and wardrobes to respectfully replicate the Watusi, the Twist and the Swim - all with the right wink and a smile.

There are always about 15 active Devil-Ettes, with about 50 alumna who come in and out of retirement. They are schoolteachers, Web designers, bike messengers and executives - who all love to dance.

"The Devil-Ettes have always been different shapes, sizes and colors," Baby Doe says of the girls who'll all be looking for a prom date tonight at the Rickshaw, where the punch will undoubtedly be spiked. "We've had girls with lots of tattoos, colored hair, curvaceous girls, slender girls. ... It's just girls, girls, girls."

Second Time's a Charm

Second Time's a Charm

Remember prom? All the bad dresses, bad hair, bad photos, bad dates, and the vigilantly guarded punch bowl? Or maybe you were one of those people mysteriously not in attendance on that quintessential night to remember. No biggie — now you can relive that special evening the way you wished it happened at Prom Party Au Go Go, a bash that pays homage to simple '60s go-go craziness. It's fun, irreverent, and doesn't do cliques (former homecoming queens and social pariahs are both welcome). The retro extravaganza, which necessitates wacky costumes and ruffle-front tuxedos, features the perfectly choreographed cuteness of the Devil-Ettes, a burlesque troupe that deals in '60s pop, rockabilly, and teaching shy audience members how to do the Watusi. Along with the versatile retro rock of the Barbary Coasters and the Struts, the synchronized steps of go-go enthusiasts the Mini Skirt Mob, and the theatrical stylings of pirate burlesque goddesses the Ship Disturbers, this is the perfect kind of prom — one in which you can dance the night away without any hype or pretense. Don't forget to pay a visit to the photo booth and the punch bowl — you won't be disappointed.

The Devil-Ettes (San  Francisco)
Sassy, sultry, yet utterly All-American, The Devil-Ettes provide good clean fun for kids of all ages! The Devil-Ettes have gained notoriety for putting on a wickedly wild high-energy show where you will witness historical dances from the hey-day of 1960's Go Go including the the hully gully, the frug, the watusi and oh so many more great dance steps! In addition to numerous performances in San Francisco, the girls' fancy footwork has taken them to Las Vegas, New Orleans, Los Angeles and beyond! We are pleased to report that the girls were featured in Atomic magazine, GQ-Spain, The UTNE Reader, The Spectator, Dance Magazine, Hustler, British scene magazine, "The Face," and a huge SIX-page spread in "Deutsches Glamour" (that's Glamour Magazine's German edition!). Local publications include the cover of the San Francisco Independent, The San Francisco Chronicle, The SF Bay Guardian, The SF Weekly (VOTED Best Garage Rock Dance Troupe 2000), The San Francisco Examiner plus many more. They also have been spotlighted on NPR, Much Music (Canadian's MTV) and twice on Britain's BBC, including the popular show 'Roadside U.S.A.'. The Devil-Ettes also host an event throughout the year for the under-aged set called Pip Squeak A Go Go where the gals teach lost and forgotten go go moves to the next generation.
