Philadelphia quartet Drink Up Buttercup's " Sosey & Dosey"
had a manic '60s psychedelic carnival vibe to it. This remix of a newer
song, "Even Think," by Andrew W.K. continues the party, but pushes it
in a different, dancier direction. The calmer original appears on a new
free (for an email address) two-song digital 45 marking the band's
signing to Yep Roc. You can expect a full-length on Yep Roc in early
2010, but for now here's W.K.'s bumped-up, highly caffeinated (and glow
stick-appropriate) take on the fuzzed-out pop anthem.
You'll hear the original at MySpace,
where you'll also find a widget that facilitates the free download. If
you're more into physical things, you can purchase the b/w "Heavy Hand"
7" copy via Yep Roc. The guys are on the road:
10/29 - Washington, DC @ Rock n Roll Hotel #
10/31 - Somerville, MA @ PA's Lounge
11/10 - Baltimore, MD @ The Zodiac %
11/11 - Philadelphia, PA @ Kung Fu Necktie %

Dudes!!! We are trying to fill out our Fall tour schedule! We wanna
play everywhere and for everyone... Here are the questions you need to ask yourself if you want to help:
1) Do we have open dates on our tour schedule around where you live (not including Philly, NYC, and DC)?
2) Do you want us to play an acoustic show at your house for you and your friends?
3) Do
you know any DIY spaces in your city/town that might throw us on a show
with some other local bands or build a show around us?
If you want to help and answered yes to question 1 as well as either question 2 or 3 please hit up our manager Chris at bookdrinkup@gmail.com (preferable). You can also just message us on here if you are lazy.

Drink Up ButtercupSosey & Dosey
Published: Jul 14, 2009
One Track Mind
Now that, friends, is the definition of a hook. The B-side to the new Farewell Captain 7-inch
from Philly's Drink Up Buttercup is so simplistic on a narrative level
— a couple goes for a walk one winter's eve to listen to carolers, the
couple slips on ice, the couple falls — but the frenetic refrain
totally drives the song to absurd levels of awesome. "Sosey, Dosey,
keep on fallin', fallin'!" cries the mocking jeer from some anarchic
urchins, pointing and laughing at the fallen couple from the carousel
they commandeered across the street — at least I presume that's the
source of the song's hellbent circus organ and marching band rhythm.
The taunt, a mere six-word phrase, is also simplistic, I'll admit. But
when you hear it 16 times in a short tune, delivered first with poise,
then expanded to a Zombies-esque harmony, you won't shake it.

New signing: Drink Up Buttercup 7 inchDebut US single "Farewell Captain / Sosey & Dosey" due out April 7th. Photo by Brian Reguera Born in a Buck’s County barn on a frigid winter night, Drink Up Buttercup has gained an international following in only one year’s time. After being kicked out of their practice space for disturbing the horses, Drink Up was soon besieged with praise in publications like Philadelphia Weekly, and in blogs such as Almack’s Dance Hall, Ear Farm, and The Music Slut. With residency offers in both Philadelphia and New York City, followed by a year’s worth of shows along the East Coast, Drink Up’s sound has attracted interest from across the pond when they released their UK first single, Mr Pie Eyes / Gods & Gentlemen" (Make Mine). Throughout most of Drink Up Buttercup’s reviews runs a common thread of excitement and appreciation for the band’s ability to put on a performance, rather than simply a musical showcase, with constant comparisons that parallel the spectacle of a circus, the buzz of a bar-room sing along, and the comfort of a nursery rhyme. Artifact of Obsession Collection said, “It is great to see a young band with so much promise and enthusiasm, who are eager and ready to make somebody's day. They made mine.” The Music Slut called one show “more than just a breath of fresh air. It somehow managed to lift all jadedness from our respective souls (a truly difficult feat, indeed).” www.kaninerecords.com

Mike Grimes over at EAR FARM wrote an awesome review of our first night of our Pianos Residency. Check out the words below or go here to check out the review with pictures and videos from the show. Thanks EAR FARM! "Drink Up Buttercup began their residency at Pianos last night with a bang...and a thwack, and a kablammo, and tons of other onomatopoeic expressions as they literally smashed their way through a raucous early set with little more than trash cans, a few worn instruments, and a hell of a lot of energy.
Seeing these guys live was a big payoff for us, as we've been spinning their new demos regularly since their turn as Band of the Week and were left wondering just how they could pull it all off live. Well let me tell you something Mean Gene, the Bucks County crew proved their ability to morph the great promise shown on demos such as "Gods and Gentlemen" and "Sosey & Dosey" into something else altogether when played live, an infectious blend of harmony, deceptively enthralling rhythms, and workmanlike showmanship.
Arms-folded New Yorkers, you've been warned twice now: this band rules. Do yourself a service and make it out to their upcoming shows. We'll even make it easy for you....after the jump, check out pics, mp3s, live video from last night's show, and upcoming dates."

We had a ridiculously good time at Lulu's last night. Travis Talbot of The Daily Collegian came out to the show and wrote up a nice full review. Here is our bit: "Drink Up Buttercup, the band that opened for The Fiery Furnaces, was another venture into the strange but intriguing. This time, though, it was in the form of an outlandish, circus-like set filled with trashcan banging and maraca-enthused hysteria.
The Bucks County natives stomped around singing wild melodies empowered by soaring bass and spasmodic percussion (which, of course, was enhanced by not one but two battered trashcans). Drink Up Buttercup was a suitable opener, making one of the most fascinating shows of the year a complete, auditory success."Big thanks to Happy Valley and The Fiery Furnaces for making our trip to State College worth every mile. See you all up there again soon. - Drink Up
