I'll be playing a solo show at Soho this Sunday. I'm actually a little nervous...been playing so much with a band recently. Should be a good night, though. Come out. Make a noise. Bring a twisty straw.

NYC, Philadelphia & More...WPA's East Coast Tour!

We’re coming.

TOMORROW.

WPA is gearing up to hit the road again, with an extended tour up and down the East Coast, kicking off in NYC on November 5th. We want to meet you. We want to meet your friends. Come out and say hello, and check out the music off our brand new album. Don’t have a copy yet? Go to www.wpamusic.com and click on WPA store.
(Direct:  www.wpamusicstore.com)

Also, I have a feeling if you liked Toad, my solo stuff, or Nickel Creek, you will in all likelihood love this band. This has been the most fun I've ever had on the road - the music and the people are as good as it gets. There's no telling when we'll be back your way, so please try and make it out, and drag some friends out with you. Indie music can't sustain itself - we need your support, and thank you deeply for it.

The November WPA line up will be a quintet: Glen Phillips, Luke Bulla & Sean Watkins, joined by bass and drums section, Sebastian Steinberg & Jerry Roe.

I'm not sure why this exists, but for some reason it does. I recorded it years ago, was reminded of it recently by a friend, and did a new mix with some better sounds today. Enjoy....?

WPA hopes to see some of you today at Camp Mather / Strawberry Festivals in Groveland, CA. For tickets: www...strawberrymusic...com
According to the Strawberry Festival site: Firefighting officials have assured Strawberry Management this morning 9/2/09 that the fire in Yosemite National Park should have little to no effect on the Labor Day Weekend festival. They asked us to remind everyone that Cherry Lake Road is closed (both before and after the festival). They report that smoke from the fire is blowing north and there is little to no smoke in the air today at and around Camp Mather. As you come into the festival on Hwy 120 (which is OPEN all the way up to Evergreen Road), there will be an electronic sign between Buck Meadows and Cherry Lake Road directing Strawberry Music Festival attendees to Evergreen Road. Please help us get the word out on this updated information.

After the festival, Toad the Wet Sprocket heads east! We hope to see some of you in FL and SC:

ASCAP PRESENTS A BENEFIT FOR KELLY BUCHANAN
New York Singer-Songwriter Suffering from Brain Damage After Head Injury

Glen Phillips, Sara Bareilles, The Rescues, Maria Taylor, Matt Scannell (Vertical Horizon), Lex Land, Paris Carney To Perform
Wednesday, August 12, 8:00 PM doors
The Troubadour - 9081 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood
(310) 276-6168 / www.troubadour.com
$25.00, available at www.troubadour.com (or via www.ticketmaster.com or www.kellybuchanan.com)
all ages

ASCAP Presents a benefit concert for New York singer-..songwriter Kelly Buchanan, who was injured during a street hockey game in March 2008 and is suffering from traumatic brain damage. Los Angeles band The Rescues and fellow singer-..songwriters Glen Phillips (of Toad The Wet Sprocket), Sara Bareilles, Maria Taylor, and Paris Carney will perform sets to raise funds for Buchanan's health care. Each artist will play approximately five to six songs, with most sets including a cover of a song from Kelly Buchanan's self-titled fourth album.

Kelly Buchanan is a Brooklyn singer-..songwriter who has toured nationally and supported artists including Mike Doughty, Martha Wainwright and The Whigs. On her new album, Buchanan wrote songs with a cast of talented artists, including Tracy Bonham, Adam Schlesinger (of Fountains Of Wayne and Ivy), Jeff Cohen (who has written hit songs for artists including Sugarland, Big & Rich, Josh Groban and Mandy Moore) and Josh Kaler of the band Slow Runner , who produced the album.

Buchanan was playing in a Black Top Street Hockey game at Moffo Rink in downtown Manhattan on March 9, 2008, when she was struck in the forehead by the ball. Doctors estimated that the ball was traveling at least 50 miles per hour, and the resulting traumatic brain injury has left Buchanan with significant cognitive impairment. She was unable speak, stand or walk in the months following the incident, and she experienced a constant, piercing headache for many months. Full recovery could take as long as three years.

Buchanan's performing rights organization, ASCAP, is presenting the benefit concert. Says ASCAP exec Brendan Okrent, "ASCAP is happy to step up again to help our member Kelly, who has shown remarkable courage and grace throughout this ordeal. I'm very pleased in the way it has brought together the creative community to help one of our own and am grateful to all the artists who are participating."

A coalition of Buchanan's friends and supporters from around the music world have come together to organize this benefit concert, both to help alleviate her health care costs and to help do what Buchanan herself has been unable to do since the injury: bring some attention to her new songs.

Three of the four members of The Rescues were Berklee College of Music classmates of Buchanan's. Says singer/..guitarist Kyler England, "I've known Kelly for a long time, and I'm really thrilled for this opportunity to bring the L.A. music community together to celebrate the music of one of our own. I'm excited to hear my band, as well as some of the other artists, cover Kelly's songs and to draw some well-deserved attention to her music, since Kelly has been unable to tour behind her record -- yet. We're all pulling for her full recovery, and hope that we can help her in the meantimethrough.. this benefit show." (The album is available from iTunes or by ordering the CD at www.kellybuchanan.com)

Fans who cannot attend the show but still wish to contribute may donate via Paypal at www.kellybuchanan.com.
