So it all happens tonight---- I just received an email that FL needs to have our "new" name by tomorrow.  We were asked to write a song for the Christmas Jam (which we did a couple weeks back and it was such as blast @ Ramblin Ranch Studio), and it just so happens that tomorrow the CD will be whissped off to be pressed, ect... and we need to know our name........................................ we don't have a name yet.

What should we be its all up to we what should we be?????

HEY friends.
how you been?? GOOD? good. great, wonderful.  We've been well too.  We're in the process of recording and writing new material,... and can't wait to get that out to you guys soon!  SO, we are changing our name (again)... and we want your opinion on what we should call our band.  we are allllll ears on it.

In the meantime, check out this video from our tour w/ clawthroat:

Three boys and one girl create the raw sound that is Franki Lee; Stacy K on lead vocals and guitar, Trent Baarspul on lead guitar, keys, and fiddle, Beau Jeffrey on bass, and Jay sitting in on drums.  The band was begat from the vision and drive of singer and bandleader Stacy K and has since evolved into a must see band who delivers a powerful live performance. “It’s taken some time to get to this point. It was only about a year or more ago I was playing solo in cafes,” recalls lead singer Stacy K,  “The current lineup of Franki Lee is really exciting.  I’ve played with numerous talented musicians in the past and there is just something about this lineup that is special and very exciting!”
Franki Lee (previously known as Stacy K & the Groovestains) started in the winter of 2007, rehearsing in an old dirty college house basement and booking shows as often as possible. “I swear we were playing three or four times a week, going to school, working full time jobs,” recalls Trent, “It didn’t matter with who or where, we were really hitting it hard.”  By the New Year, Stacy K put out her second EP, Little Glass Houses (acoustic EP/solo with Baarspul’s guitar work) and two short Midwest tours followed in support; one in March 2008, marking the beginning of spring and another at the end of May 2008, closing it out.
After the return of the second spring tour, Franki Lee went into the studio to record their first “full band” EP, In the Country.  “Previous to this band, I recorded a couple of EP’s, one which I just listened to by force of my mother, and surprisingly enjoyed (The Attic Sessions),” Stacy states, “In the Country was the first recording with Franki Lee…. although we were still under the Groovestain name.  And it was a pretty quick recording, it’s definitely a raw, real sound, which I enjoy more than a “polished shiny, plastic” production. Some of the songs were written just a week before and it was great to have something to sell for that summer tour.”  It was soon after the recording of In the Country that FL went out on their third tour, hitting the deeper Midwest to places of Omaha, Kansas, St. Louis, and Nashville.
After returning from their third tour, FL has been climbing the ropes of the Minneapolis scene and constantly reaching new fans. In November 2008, they got the opportunity to open for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals for a portion of their 2008 fall tour. “That was completely random,” laughs Stacy, “I received a phone call and the next day we are driving to Iowa. That following night we were sitting in with GPN in Kansas City!”
In the year 2009, Franki Lee has already successfully toured out to the East Coast with the MPLS band Clawthroat and showcased at NACA Northern regional conference. "Our main focus lately has been honing our direction of the music and writing new tunes", states Trent.  FL plays in the Minneapolis and surrounding area with plans of releasing an EP in the fall 2009.

Franki Lee in the Studio-

Well there has been a lot going on in the last month or so. We have been chiseling out the new direction for the band, figuring out what exactly that sounds like. With the resignation of Mr. Ben Prohaska (bless his heart) we have been hurled into the next evolution of this project called Franki Lee. Stacy and I (Trent) played a couple of shows as a duo, showcasing some new songs and instruments and this last Saturday (5/30/09) we played as a trio with our bassman Beau. The new direction of the band has elements of what we were doing before, elements of really low down groovy dirty stuff, but also mixes in some moody atmospheric sounding songs. Its always a work in progress.

As we are finding this new evolution of the sound, we are recording whenever possible. Thankfully we know some great people like our friends Joshua Cohen and John Peters who take time to record us and expiriment with different sounds. We are in the process of recording all our new songs, looking forward to our next EP. The process looks something like this... we are writing new tunes all the time, working on them and developing them. Once we finish one then we record it and spare no sonic expense (meaning we try EVERYTHING we can think of that could sound cool on the track). Once we have a bundle of these tunes recorded, we are going to select the ones that we think are the best... and Vualah a new EP pops out.

Its not quite that easy but thats the idea for this summer. Look for a new release this coming Fall!!

It will be a little bit of a turn from the last recording, but I think you will get a good idea of where the music is going in the future once this EP is complete...

Hello friends.
So Franki Lee (us, the band) went on tour this past March (2009) with our lovely, greatest friends CLawthroat. We traveled and played::::: the Yacht Club in Iowa City, Sin City in Clinton, IA, Reggies Music Joint in Chicago, the Blue Rock Tavern in Cincinnati, Howelers Coyote in Pittsburgh, the Corpse Fortress in Washington DC, the Shrine in NYC, BBC in Milwaukee, and the Frequency in Madison, WI. We had a such a great time.... be sure to check back for some photos from it all--- we had too much of a good time!

we have some cool gigs coming up-- we're playing an in-studio performance @ KFAI-- be sure to TUNE-IN, sit around the radio like they did back in the day before the boob-tube-- leaves more for the imagination too.

we have some plans for the future as well.... lets see, record a NEW EP, this will be filled with all the new music (that we've been giving out on our LIVE CD) and then some...we are very excited about this as our sound has been evolving....we are certainly not that folk anymore (but I still heart it and create the folk music for all da folk ya know, oh check out www.myspace.com/stacyksongs for some of my mac recordings)....

well thats all for now.... its a rainy windy day,.. and i just made myself and nice warm chai tea latte!
