A lot has happened since we last sent out a mail with all the Plush news. In fact it's been a few months since the last mail and we've got a lot to tell you, but we'll try and keep it as short as possible! Where to begin...?

Excellent news is always a good place to start: last Friday Plush hit number 1 on the 5fm Hi5 chart. 'All for the better', which is the current single, has spent about a month quietly working it's way up the chart and is now on top. We are asking all our friends to please help us to keep it there for as long as possible. 'When grace grew tall' spent four weeks at the top of the same chart last year and we'd like to better it with this one! Please vote as many times as possible by smsing 'HI5 PLUSH ALL FOR THE BETTER' to 33345. Whilst you're at it, please harass any stations that you can. We are climbing a number of other charts, but we'd love it if you phoned/mailed and sms'd all the stations daily! An interesting note is that Plush and Goldfish happened to hold the 1 and 2 spots on the Hi5 last week. Dom from Goldfish is Ben's brother. Well done to the Peter's for being such a crazily talented family, you should see their Father juggle, clearly an entertainment legacy has been left for his sons to follow!

We have been pretty quiet about it, but you will notice that we have no shows booked for the next few months. This is because we are in the process of taking the music to the United Kingdom. Rory recently received a scholarship to study a Masters Degree in Songwriting at Bath Spa University in Bath, England. This prompted a rethink in our strategy and it's safe to say that 2009 is going to be a great year for us. Rory has been there for two weeks already and seems to be settling in really nicely. It means one thing only, he is going to write better songs for us all to listen to! That said, we're going to be playing a lot less shows in South Africa which means that the shows we do play are going to be bigger and better than ever before!

December sees the first Plush tour. We will begin and end in Cape Town. Dates are almost finalised and we will release them next month but we can tell you that we will be doing a huge show at Kirstenbosch gardens on 4 January with some great surprises. We're really looking forward to the tour as it'll give us a chance to catch up with everyone and we are scheduled to play some awesome shows! We hope to see you all there!

Another great piece of news is that the band has gone back into studio to record two new tracks for release as bonus tracks on the new edition of 'Rage on'. One is called 'Life' which is a great pop/rock song and the other is a full band, electric version of many people's favourite song, 'Halo'. They are sounding incredible! We have tracked Drums, Bass and Guitars and tomorrow Rory will track vocals in Bath. Not in the bath, in Bath. For those of you who already have the album, don't stress. You will be able to download the songs. This has all come about through our new affiliation with The Sheer Group through their label 'Seed'. We've licensed the album to them exclusively for Southern Africa so expect to hear a lot more of us over the next year! It also means that hopefully our distribution problems are a thing of the past and that you will be able to purchase the albums at all major retailers without any hassle. So do us, your family and your friends a favour this festive season, buy a number of Plush albums and give the gift of great music!

Rocking the Daisies was one of the band's better performances to date. Those of you that were there will know just what we're talking about. Thanks to Complete Events for such an awesome festival and to everyone who rocked it with us, we had the greatest time! On that note, if anyone has any footage or photos of The Daisies show, or any other gig for that matter, please upload them to the Plush fan page on Facebook. We'd love to see them and use the photos where possible. We promise to credit you!

We look forward to seeing you in December and don't forget to help us keep 'All for the better' at Number 1! Until then, join our Plush Fanpage on Facebook or drop us a mail!

Pheeeeew...what a start! The Evolution of Plush UK Tour is up and happening and man it's craaaaaaaaazy over here!

After the perfect flight (no problem with customs, free upgrades, even a coupla hours sleep) etc we landed at London Heathrow at the unholy hour of 6am to start the first international tour this band has ever embarked on.

And man, if the start is anything to go by, it ain't gonna be the last.

A pretty traditional English afternoon spent chowing burgers and sinking pints (ok, a pint..we're cheap alrite) was followed by an AWESOME opening show at King's Head Live at Zulus in Fulham.

Saw some old friends, made a bunch of new ones...and rocked out the place! A big thank you to all who made the gig the perfect way to start the tour.

I'd love to go into more detail, but yet another damn train is waiting. Before that, however, the two nominations for moment of the day:

1. Rory

Geting seriously upset sitting on a tube on the district line, stationary at Wimbledon station watching train after train fly by on an adjacent track.

'Ah guys man we're on the wrong bloody train again,' he vents. Then a glare. 'Rory', I reply, 'that's the national rail service. It's not the underground.'

Pause. Vacant look.

'These things are so bloody confusing.'

2. Emelio

Our esteemed and respected elder statesman. The man setting the standards for us youngsters to live up to. Humble. Mild mannered.

The first to get into an argument with a bouncer.

Poor Em was styling in his trademark hat, when he was not-too-politely informed of the house dress policy. Eventually getting through that he was part of the band, he was told to go wait in the empty area where we were about to play. Don't worry buddy, bounced from your own gig...it's happened to all of us ;-)

That's it for now from London.

Ciao

Chris

It seems when ya onto a good thing, there's not much that gets in the way ;-) Not even two hour commutes, R125 pizzas or a venue that more closely resembled a sauna than a pub could derail the RER train as our UK tour exploded into life.

Our first night was awesome, but the second gig at the Puzzle on Saturday really blew our minds. First up, a massive thank u to all who queued in the rain to get in. We hope it was worth it! Despite the lack of ventilation (can anyone explain why the buggers didnt just turn on the damn fans??) we had one of the best gigs we can remember, and judging by all the emotion and cd sales we certainly left this tour a bit too long!

Rest assured we'll be back. The reception we've received has been incredible and we are all so inspired and motivated.

Today was our first day off, and we all kinda did our own thing. Rorz and Em met up with some old mates for a braai under drizzly and cloudy skies, Ben headed back north to Glasgow or wherever the hell he's staying miiiiiiiiles away to spend time with his sis, and I chilled with my cousin and tried to play touch rugby with a 30 000 pound Harrods clock. Didn't go down to well with Molly Menopause the saleswoman, as I'm sure you can imagine.

Couple of nominations for moment of the day.

1. Ben

Commute to get from where he's staying to the Puzzle: Two hours
The number of times he had to change trains: 4
Getting to see the 'im so over this but im still totally cool' look on his face when wheeling his cymbals down the platform whilst trying to put out the vibe and ignore the rest of us cackling like hyaenas: priceless

2. The Puzzle

All of you who made it so freakin awesome get this nomination. Woop woop to ya all.

We're at the Bedford in Acton tomorrow night. Hope to see ya there. Pics from the Puzzle gig will be posted tomorrow, trying to skabenga free internet each day that moves faster than dial up is fast becoming the days' main mission.

Chat later

Chris

Helloooooo from yet another gloomy and overcast day in London. Man this weather never changes. We certainly take things for granted back in sunny SA!

News from team RER is that we all remain fit and happy, loving our time over here and are delighted to be making so many new friends.

Had the most incredible gig last night at the Bedford in Acton, well showcase is probably a better description. We were sharing the stage with three other international acts. A guy called Chris Cole, who looked like John Mayer, played similar chords to John Mayer and...yep you guessed it...sounded like John Mayer. An American singer/songwriter had an awesome voice, she was great, but the other band really blew us away.

They were a brother and sister duo from Osaka in Japan, and it's hard to accurately describe what it is they did. Suffice to say it was both creative and awesome, with a real world music/spiritual vibe. Very different to what we do, very eclectic but man it worked.

Otherwise when we got on for our set the crowd was nicely warmed up. For the first time this tour, and in ages, the boys were a bit nervous walking onto the stage. The combination of the intimate setting and the talented acts that preceded contributed, but as always, they raised their game and the loudest cheers of the night were reserved for their renditions of 'All for the better'. 'Warfare', 'Rage On' and 'When Grace Grew Tall'.

The theatre was actually owned by a guy called Tony, who treated us at the end to a rendition of the 80s hit he had help write and played keyboards on during the recording. No idea what the band was called, but you'll know the song: *ahem* 'i just died in your arms tonight, mustve been something you said'

ok u can stop singing now.

seriously stop it.

the rest of the day was very relaxing and enjoyable, but yet again there were a few classic moments:

1. Ben

When walking to the Bedford, Shaun (the owner of Monk Management, the team who helped put together the tour for us) pipes up that his roommate may have the hots for Ben (he said it rather more graphically).

Ben's response:

'Is it a girl?'

And you wonder why you are staying with your sister my man.

2. Emelio

The other moment was reserved for our intrepid bassist, who after enjoying his pub lunch of burger and pepsi, stared intently at this little square of burger still remaining on his plate.

'What are you contemplating there Em?' asked Ror

Long pause. We wait expectantly for his take on the meaning of life, or at least an idea for a song...

Emelio: 'I am trying to decide whether to eat this in one bite or two.'

Poetic Em, poetic.

I think that's enough for now, so from a dodgy Chinese take-out on Oxford Street(and I mean doooooooooooooooodgy), it's goodbye for now.

Til tomoro

Another day, more grey! Seriously is this supposed to be summer?? Anyway a mate of mine often warns to 'never trust a man who talks about the weather' so I'd better heed the advice and move swiftly along!

Day 5 was our second day without a gig, and we decided to take full advantage by taking the tube into central London and doing some exploring.

Ben wandered off with a mate to visit the Queen (we're still not sure actually if it was to visit THE Queen or just a queen - jurys out) at Buckingham Palace, and Rorz, Em and I jumped off at Leicester Square to suss out the city/

We did the usual stroll around, checked out Picadilly Circus and then spent half the afternoon traipsing around Oxford Street in search of the promised land of guitar shops. The guy at the information kiosk thing Rory asked spoke of this musical utopia, so eventually three hours later rest assured we were rather unimpressed with what we found.

A stuffy entrance, a service desk, and maybe 20 guitars. Paul Bothner put that place in the shade. Anyway...

The evening was certainly a more entertaining affair. After an artery clogging meal at Pizza Hut, we hit the West End and watched 'Boeing Boeing' at one of the theatres. Was a comedy farce, and really was enjoyable. Big up to Rorz for the tickets, we all had a blast.

After a quiet drink or two afterwards we all headed home, and those of us with a three-train-change and at least-one-hour commute are certainly beginning to feel it! Alls good though, bout time we got fit...

Plenty of nominations for moment of the day. Here's a few, take yer pick!

1. Rorz

Whilst missioning up Oxford Street in search of that woeful guitar shop, I glanced at a passing red bus to see "BILLY ELIOT" emblazoned on the side next to a picture of some really non-dude-looking young dude. Having pointed out the scary resemblance to Ror, I suggested we start calling him Billy instead.

Rest assured, he wasn't impressed. His reply?

'You say Billy, you think goat.'

And we do bud, we do.

2. St Pauls

Being three good Christian boys, we decided the afternoon wouldn't be complete without a pilgrammage to Christopher Wren's masterful work St Pauls Cathedral, one of the most impressive structures in the world. Surely, it's a church, we reasoned - they might ask for a suggested donation but surely they can't charge entrance...

When we got to the door, the sign read: "THIS IS THE HOUSE OF GOD. THIS IS THE GATE TO HEAVEN"

Definitely no entrance fee then. What does that sign say there? What??? NINE POUNDS entrance!!??

The Christian brothers returned to their step, which they trusted sitting on wouldn't be charged for, and reflected on the implications.

The House of God, nine pounds entrance....

Here's hoping Heaven is that cheap. Man we could even get change for a tenner!

3. Me

As we were scouting out the theatre to watch Boeing Boeing at later, we were reading all the mightily impressive reviews emblazoned around the entrance to the theatre. Around the door, each newspaper's rating out of five was displayed in star format. Most gave the play five or four stars, so the door was surrounded.

"Man, I haven't seen so many stars since..." Roz began.

"Since you were sitting on a beach in the Transkei and wrote Skyfire" I interjected.

Much hilarity.

Anyway, that's it for the daily report. We'll check in again tomorrow.

Big love to you all back home

Chris

Wow Day 6 of an awesome tour already, can't believe how quickly time is going. Mind you with our schedule (nine gigs in 11 days) it's really no wonder.

Life on the RER wagon remains eventful but highly enjoyable. I've had to lie low for the last two days as I've had writing deadlines for Sports Illustrated, so haven't spent the usual amount of time with the boys. It's been the highlight of the tour actually. I kid.

Last night we played our smallest gig so far at a joint called the Good Ship. The place had the weirdest layout any of us have encountered with the stage in a little hole area at the bottom of some stairs! Ya far from ideal, but hey it's all about making the best of it, and the boys duly did by providing a great set.

Before getting on, we all had a band interview with Radio SA in a little dingy backroom. There were seven of us crammed into what can only be described as a broom closet! Interview was great fun though, look out for it on www.radiosa.co.uk

When it came to he music, the boys were far more relaxed than the other night and it showed in the banter. Rory decided to good heartedly get involved in some nation bashing when he saw a bunch of raucous Aussies on the side. He wasn't too critical of the two Canadian girls who were moved to whip out a few dance moves in front of the stage though....wonder why?? Haha just kidding, don't worry Erla, we were watching him.

Speaking of you Mrs Eliot, Rory included a beautiful intro to your song last night. It went something like this:

"I wrote this song a while ago when I was trying to woo...hang on, woo hasn't been used since the 1800s right Chris....when I was trying to win over a girl I was crazy for. Well it worked because the woman in question is now my beautiful wife. This is Erla"

Otherwise the gig went beautifully, even when Rory forgot the words to Jet Life halfway through and then tried with this look of sincerity on his face to mumble through half a verse. Not that Ben and I, grinning like Cheshire Cats, were helping much! Didn't seem to matter match cos the boys were physically restrained from leaving until they played an encore.

Wasn't really enough time today to find many moments, so we'll give the daily nomination to something sincere for once. Rory's intro to "Erla" takes it.

Chat tomorrow good people.

Chris

Our mind is blown! Clapham Grand indeed, what an awesome venue and what an experience. We knew before we came that this was gona be a bit special...and it was.

Hello again from London! Any tour schedule is gonna have its mix of venues, with one or two really shining as the flagship events of the tour. So much was said of the Clapham grand before we came, and when we heard of the bands who had played there before us, it certainly was a night we were all looking foward to for ages.

Well it was worth the wait. Check out the pics in our album if ya don't believe me...great lighting, great venue, great crowd. The only drawback was our call time...just after 8pm...which was a little early but hey we did what we could to push it back.

The good news was that the woman who runs FeedMeMusic, the promotional company who hosted the event last night, was totally blown away. She even bought a CD and promised that the next time we're in town we will be headlining a big event at the Grand. Another in her office said the following: 'Don't allow Rory to ever compare the band in any way to U2 again. You are better than U2.' So big up to the boys, I know you didn't quite 'get' each other on stage but the result was still typically superb.

Otherwise it was quite a subdued day leading up to the big gig. We were loving the little backstage room, complete with bar-fridge, leopard-print couch and purple walls. Again, go check the pics in our album to see what I mean!

Had a lot of fun mixing with the good people who came to see us last night after the gig. The early start meant we didn't all have to rush off to catch our last train home, and we had a great time catching up with old friends and of course meeting a few more.

The tour has literally flown, and undoubtedly we'll be back next year to build on a fantastic foundation.

Moment of the day? There can only be one.

1. Chas

In a little room in one of the finest arenas in London, there's a few words written innocously on the roof in the corner. This room has housed some of the great rock acts of the generation, and will host many more in the years ahead. A few famous names will come through the door, and look up to the left. It's in black felt and only just catches the eye as you enter the door. It reads:

'PLUSH! 4 Chas'

Enough said.

Peace out.

Chris

Well now for something completely different....Camden High Street!! To those of you who came through to the Barfly, wow you guys are hardcore. Getting through Goth and Punk City on the way from the tube station would have sent many lesser peeps packing. But you are no ordinary fans, you know this, you are part of us and this movement and we THANK you for what turned out to be a very different but enjoyable jol.

Let me fill the rest of you in on what I'm harping on about. Our gig last night (well a few hours ago actually) was in the middle of the street that is in the middle of the biggest Goth area in London. Yep, picture us four all wide-eyed as we stumbled down the street and you're pretty much bang on.

The venue itself was a total dive, but hey when you see whove played there it puts the place's standing into perspective. Just in the last month the Barfly hosted Funeral for a Friend and Bullet for My Valentine, so we were pretty stoked to be there...scrap that, after the walk from the tube station, happy to be alive! I exaggerate...

Unfortunately the night was not without its hiccups. The biggest tool in England (ok maybe second to Prince Charles) happened to be the sound guy, and he completely pawned the settings to the extent that we had to do a whole new soundcheck after the first song. Hardly ideal, but pretty much the first hiccup of the tour so yea spose we were due.

Apart from that, the gig went swimmingly and it was great to meet a lot of new peeps. Hope to see you all again at the Halfmoon for the big finale.

In terms of moment of the day(s - we had yesterday off so all did our own thing), well take yer pick of the following:

1. Em

Coming out of the Camden tube station into the high street, and Goth HQ, there was stunned silence for at least a block. Em, with true understated brilliance, after calmy surveying his surroundings: 'This place is weird'

2. Rory

Standing outside a pub at halftime during the Springbok game, Rory's rather stout physique was commented on by the legendary Tiny (thanks for the drink bud - you see what it got you, the term 'legendary'. make it a double next time and i'll call you King).

'Rory', I asked, with not the faintest hint of sarcasm. 'do you kiss your guns at night before u go to sleep?'

'Nope,' he replied. 'The guns kiss me goodnite.'

Now there's something you didnt know about our frontman.

3. Barfly

Ok so the place was a hole. But it did provide the most perfect summation of every experience/thought generated by being in Camden. On the wall of one of the storerooms, alongside the stage, it is written:

'Too many freaks. Not enough circuses'

We could not say it any better.

Off to Devon tomorrow, chat next time from the country. Yeeeeeeeeeeehah

C

We are back in London after an eventful little sojourn into the country, Nowhereville in Devon to be precise, a quite scenic town on the west coast. To be honest I still have no idea what the place was called. Starts with an 'I', thats all I know, and after our night there it's pretty much all I want to remember either!

OK it wasn't that bad, but hey some experiences test character. This was one of them.

Deciding to break up the schedule of eight almost back to back gigs in London, we opted in for the SunWest Music Festival, not knowing much about it. We knew it wasn't Glastonbury, but hey we were hoping for Splashy Fen. We got Chavs-by-the-sea instead. (Note: For those who dont know what a 'chav' is, find a UK connection and ask. Hehe we learnt the lingo baby!)

So picture the scene: Sun's out, beers free, and theres hundreds of pasty overweight Poms everywhere. If you are thinking red flab everywhere and smelling vomit you are pretty much bang on. Hey, but we make the most of situations in this band, and about a hundred laughs later the boys eventually took to the stage and once again stole the show.

Ya know ya got something when an innebriated bunch of working class Pommies give you the thumbs up, which they duly did. Not having one South African in the audience was a new experience, and its a tribute to the guys that we sold 10 CDs and had numerous requests to play again the region soon. Our response?? We'll see. Translation: Nnnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeevvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrr

As for our accomodation, well to save costs we opted to rough it a bit and stay in a backpackers. Two of us were in boarding school, so hey we've been through worse right? Hehe not so sure. It would have been super cool if not for the fact that the town was buzzing and the backpackers didn't have any extra beds...save for the spare two in our 6 sleeper dorm. So a middle aged Polish dude and a balding Pommie were quite startled to find their four new South African roomates when we crashed through the door halfway through what was until that point a peaceful afternoon.

Since we couldnt remember their names, Emelio nicknamed our two new roommates Inky and Binky. Hey - apart from the snoring and otherwise scary proximity to strange males, it was a decent enough night's rest.

Except for one of us.

Unfortunately not all was well in the world of fun and games. Ben picked up some quite serious food poisoning, and owing to our accomodation struggled through a difficult night. We're hoping he'll be fit for our final gig tomorrow night at the Halfmoon, which is gonna be massive!!!

Today was a travelling and rest day, so not much to report.

As for moments of the day, well I could list hundreds, but here's a few:

1. Ben

On the drive out to Devon, it wasn't immediately noticed that Ben wasn't his usual stylish (ok semi-stylish) self. When we hit the rest stop, however, the extent of the horror was revealed. Bright boardshorts clashing with an olive green jacket thing and barefeet.

'O look' piped up Rorz. 'Here comes Hobo Baggins'

2. Ben

Yep, it's you again our under-the-weather mate. Shaun, the man who helped set the tour up for us on this side, was driving us through to Devon in a Landy he borrowed from a mate. Anyway so Ben is upfront in the passenger seat. Shaun asks him at an intersection to let him know when it is clear on the left

A second later, 'all clear' announces Ben

Three seconds later, a stationwagon roars past. Yep from the left.

Thank God for Shaun that he's learnt very quickly that we don't ever under any circumstances listen to Ben ;-) joking big guy, we do. sometimes. just to break things up.

3. Ben

You beginning to see a pattern here?

As we all clamboured into bed after returning from the gig, doing our best not to wake Inky and Binky, a solitary voice emerged from the top bunk belonging to Ben. Emelio and I were in the other top bunks, and Rory was at ground level next to Binky and fairly close to Inky.

'Rory', whistled Ben from the silence,'you are going to get taken tonight!'

Luckily he wasn't...we think. Binky was quite nimble on his feet so you never quite know do you...

4. Rory

And finally, one for Rors.

Driving home, tired, drained cramped etc etc, we arrived on a fairly recent accident scene. Some old biddy had shunted some other car, and was just sitting in what remained of her runaround, staring forlongly out the window, clearly in shock.

Gasps of sympathy from team RER???

Not a chance

"Old people should get their own lane", was Rory's verdict.

For those of you in London, we'll see you at the Halfmoon tomorrow. For those back home we'll see u on Thurs!

Ciao for now

Chris

It's been two days since Day 12 and our final show at the Halfmoon, and even now it's hard to try and contain that incredible experience in mere words. For those who were there, I trust you know what I'm talking about!

Our final show of an awesome UK Tour always promised to be a big one, but none of us expected such an incredible night. Sportsmen speak of a 'zone', that figurative place their minds go when they are executing everything perfectly. Well for Rorz, Ben and Em, that zone was Tuesday night in Putney.

I have never seen them play so well, so tightly, with so much passion and raw emotion. The awesome turn-out helped a stack, and the energy was almost overpowering at times. From the melodic hand-waving Skyfire to the screaming of Halo to Rory's incredible, emotion, heart-wrenching dedication of the tour to Chas, well it just does not get better than this.

It was a superb finale to a real adventure, and one we certainly hope to repeat in the very near future.

All that remains is for us, and here I do speak on behalf of all four of us, to thank all of you over in the UK for your mindblowing support and hospitality.

All of our love and gratitude. And we WILL be back.

Chris

PS Moment of the day? The whole freakin show!!! Bugger silly chirps, it don't get better or bigger than that! ;-)

PPS We are going on the Halfmoon wall of fame next to U2 and Van Morrisson. That's what I'm talking about!
