If you've been following the story of Marchioness for a while, you might recall that there were some demo tracks recorded back in March that, as yet, have not seen the light of day (or at least not the light of Myspace). I'm happy to announce they are in the hands of a Master Mixer Billy Zenn and should be appearing on the page shortly.
In the meantime, here those songs and many more LIVE tonight at The Thirsty Ear.
All my best, ~a

Finally have the lineup all squared away for the October 23rd show at The Thirsty Ear. I'm pleased to announce that my very own staggeringly talented roommate, Miss Grace Adele will be honoring us with an opening set beginning at 9pm that evening.
Grace will be holding her CD release party at The Ear on Sunday, the 26th, backed by a full band. Her opening set for us will be a solo set, a tease, if you will, for her big show.
Marchioness will play at 10pm, and rounding out the evening will be (drumroll please.....) The Dirty Flaggs. If you've not had the opportunity to catch these guys yet (and, as they're relatively new on the block, chances are you haven't), DO get out the The Ear that evening. They're great kids (and by kids I mean people my age who have normal jobs but are still rocking the eff out onstage from time to time) and I dig them quite a bit - and I hope you will, too.
Best, ~a

A blog about a blog?? Oh yes, my friends. I've started a blog separate from Myspace, for any of you who might be into such things (or need another distraction to fill their work days...). Curiouser&Curiouser can be found at http://www.curiouserx2.wordpress.com. Take a look, should you be so bored:) Meanwhile, working on getting Marchioness registered on a recording fund-raising site calle Sellaband.com. More on that as soon as we're up and running. Best, ~a

Current mood: electric
Yes, we've been laying low, but Marchioness will surface this week for two shows. The first is at Skully's tomorrow night with a couple of uber-swell bands (not gonna lie - this girl's as biased as they come, but I stand by my opinions). We'll take the stage with The Lost Revival and Josh Fitzwater & The Shambles. Music starts around 9pm, and there's a $5 cover.
Now - that's the warm-up. Save some energy for Sunday, when The Vault (35 E. Gay) will host a benefit for the Forte Music Foundation, an organization that raises money to buy instruments for children and set up music program scholarships. The festivities begin at 1pm, and there's a $15 suggested donation at the door. The day includes several concerts (Blastronauts, St. Moses the Black, and Michael Kelsey), door prizes, an auction and a good deal of light-hearted debauchery.
I can't imagine where I'd be if my parents hadn't been able to afford my first piano. It is a palette, a punching bag, a shoulder to cry on, an electric socket (and it was anything but cheap). Where would I be without it? Hence my passion for Forte's cause.
So - see you soon, yes? ~a

That's right. We've gone and done it. The three of us finally discovered an acceptable name to encompass whatever it is we're doing. Marchioness grabbed me from the pages of Alice in Wonderland (the Queen of Hearts had the separate title of Marchioness of Mock Turtles), and then we further discovered an incident in recent history known as The Marchioness Disaster - a boat collision that resulted in the sinking of The Marchioness, and the deaths of many of the young, wealthy artist types on board.
Well how could we say "no" to that??
Soon, I'll be creating a new myspace page so that the band can be found by a url that matches the band name. Until then (and probably for a while after) you can still find all our show dates and information here. So - be on the lookout for Marchioness on the scene in the upcoming months.
Best, ~a

....and this time I'm not referring to the $8 brand whose neck I've found my fingers wrapped around in strange frequency as of late. Ah, Ballatore.... your curvy, emerald body and grape-juice finish made many a late night memorable, many a birthday precious, and nearly landed you a band name, my friend.
Nearly.
But I digress. The effervesence of which I speak at the moment is of the scarlet variety. And if you're a music lover and not yet acquainted, allow me to make the inroductions:
My friend, Red fizz Red Fizz, my friend.
Now you've met. But seriously, if there's any trace of music-lover in your blood, if you've any passion at all for the art and strong opinions but an open mind, this site is for you.
But why, you ask, am I raving with the enthusiasm of an over-caffeinated wine rep? I feel I owe it to this nicely constructed music critique site. They've rejected all but one of my entries thus far, but in the process have taught me what no one else could about writing songs. They gave me the tough love you can't get from your friends (that's why they're still your friends), and while I hated these guys with a passion after my first, crushing rejection, I found that the instant I got over myself and listened to what these people had to say, the minute my critique became an open conversation, I began to see my songs with a constructively critical eye as well - something that's difficult when the material is so personal, so dear to you.
Anyway, I could ramble further about the benefits of both entering your songs to the site, and (almost more importantly) making comments as a critic as well, but I really had another point to make. I've seen screen names come and go on this site, with a small core group from across the country remaining to faithfully discuss the music of the moment. But I think with fresh perspectives (and more of them), Red Fizz will only grow stronger, and become an extremely valuable resource and connection for musicians around the world.
I strongly believe in what these guys are up to, so give it a taste and tell me what you think.
Cheers! ~a

Yes, I'm sorry to be the harbinger of bad news, but our one and only Dan Hange is not only on the verge of marriage, but a change of location (in the spring, he's headed to L.A. at long last). So - that leaves a hole in our little lineup, one that we're hoping to fill before August if possible. More details to come on what, precisely, we're looking for in a bassist, but if you know a guy (or girl), or even know someone who knows someone whose cousin played in a band with the singer of a band that had a really badass bass player.... well, do let us know.
In the meantime, get yourselves to Rumba Saturday night!

Current mood: chill
It had already been a very long day when we arrived at Scarlet & Grey to set up for the show. Having joined the real world with their real jobs and real time table, I'd been up since 7:30 and hadn't stopped moving since getting out of bed. It had been a month since our last show, we'd skipped some practices in lieu of getting the demo recorded, and we were ever so slightly concerned about the rust that may have gathered on our stage chops since last we performed.
Luckily, no disasters to speak of. It was, all in all, a good warm up for next week's Sirens show at Rumba Cafe. Another high note- getting to know a couple new bands a lot better. GadgetVoz, who are about as recently formed as we are and who were playing only their second Columbus show, had me nice and mellowed with their atmospheric trip-hop. (Guys, if you ever want some guest vocals, I'm there!). The more seasoned Blastronauts were as high-energy as their myspace tunes suggested, and I was none-too-happy to have to leave before the end of their set (real job, you know).
A huge thanks to our new friend Benny - thanks for the O, man, and the compliments:) And to the ever-supportive Phil (and Phil's friend who must tell me his name again, because he deserves a better shout-out than "to Phil's friend') for braving campus parking. And to everyone else who comes out to see us live - we need and love your presence in the crowd. Until next week - have a brilliant and safe holiday weekend! ~a

Current mood: ecstatic
Recording is complete on the new full-band demo tracks (the first set of four, anwyay - there's talk of working our way up to a full 12 tracks, but all in due time). The amazing Eric Jones is now in the mixing process, so expect to see these suckers dropped into the myspace player in the next couple of weeks. Now, here I have to plug Eric's studio, not because he asked me to, but because the guy has been so professional with our project and has a fantastic ear. He's been more than accommodating and has a great little set-up going. His company is Stezo Productions, and we've had a great time working with him. So - all that said, do keep an ear out for "Anonymity" (the latest version), "Proof" (the song that almost wasn't), "Assimilate" and "Tell it to the Judge." I can't wait to get these out of the studio and into your head:)
