Okay, so I missed a day... sue me.

Back to the topic of fat loss and energy flux.  Here are the two unbreakable principles of "weight loss".

1.  Whether you lose or gain "weight" depends on whether you are in a calorie surplus (eat more than you burn, gain), caloric equilibrium (eat as much as you burn, stay the same), or a caloric deficit (burn more than you eat).

2.  The TYPE of weight (fat, muscle, water) depends on the macronutrient content of your food and the total difference in calories over a certain amount of time.

Yeah, I know, the first one makes sense... the second... hmmmm.

I'll explain tomorrow.

I hope everyone reading this has an awesome weekend...

Okay, back to the good stuff.

The reason that conventional diets rarely work long term without exercise has to do with the fact that "dieting" hinders your metabolism.  By decreasing the number of calories you consume, your body begins to "think" that it needs to conserve more calories; thus, your body begins to shed a little muscle as well as fat and water.

(not to mention what "hunger" does to your resolve..)

Plus, the act of eating itself has a thermic effect.  Numerous studies have shown that people that eat more have a moderately higher metabolism than those that eat less.  Why?  Well, two reasons...

1.  Digestion takes calories...

2.  Eating larger amounts of food can have a "steroid like effect" and can mildly increase muscle mass (which really explains why the majority of overweight people are much stronger than their thinner counterparts)

Now, of course, that doesn't mean that you need to go off and eat to your heart's content... there is a checks and balance system to ensure fat loss.  In fact, there are two principles that you cannot break if you are tryihg to reduce body fat.

I'll go over them tomorrow.

I'll tell you... the only reason I am going to post to this blog will be so all of the friends that I've had over the years can find it and say:

"Man, what a LOSER that guy became..."

Seriously though.

Let's talk a little about this energy flux idea and how it can pertain to weight loss.  (I'll go over bit's and pieces day by day in separate posts).

First and formost, a diet without exercise is certainly due to fail.  You see most people understand that fat loss involves a creation of some sort of calorie deficit in the body.  Unfortunately, most people take this to the extreme and "diet" their way into oblivion.

Bad idea.

I'll tell you why tomorrow.
