From Eric:

Anyone who knows me knows of my unhealthy obsession. KISS was the band that made me want to play the drums. They are singlehandedly responsible for getting me into rock n' roll. That is powerful stuff. Now, after almost 20 years of playing in bands, I have my first real opportunity to open for my childhood heroes (this Thursday at the Sprint Center in KC)!

You can help me realize that dream. Click here to go to KC station 101 The Fox and vote for my band The Dead Girls. (You have to register before you vote, but it doesn't take long.)

We had an early lead, but are losing ground every day. Please take a moment to vote and then spread the word to anyone who understands what a big deal this is. Think of it as the Make-A-Wish foundation for a grown-up who never grew up. Voting is over Monday night at midnight. Thank you so much!!! You have no idea what this means...

(pictures are from when The Dead Girls opened for a KISS tribute band...now we want to open for the real deal!)

Our guitarist Cameron wrote this on The Dead Girls' site:

I have been playing music in some capacity for about fifteen years now, and especially in these times of economic hardship, I have found myself wondering why more than once. A lot of the time, it’s a ton of hard work for very little payoff. But, I knew that going into it, and whenever I find I am beating myself up about the choices I’ve made, I ask myself, “What did you expect? That you would open for KISS someday or something?”

dead girls opening for KISS tribute bandNever in my wildest dreams did I actually think this would be a possibility. But, as of last night, that possibility has materialized.

When 101 The Fox, a classic rock station (sorry…THE classic rock station) in Kansas City, announced their “Open For Kiss” contest, I had no idea it was even a thing. I was still trying to figure out how to win some free tix to the show, because my friend Eric (notorious KISS superfan and Dead Girls drummer) had done this through another radio contest that involved writing an essay about why you love KISS and sending in a photo that was KISS related. Thankfully, Eric had some fake blood on hand (fresh from his appearance at the Air Guitar National Championships in DC), doused his tongue in it, and took a picture of himself in front of his velvet KISS…now how would he NOT win that competiton?

So imagine the possibilities when this same guy hears about this OTHER radio contest, except this one involves having your BAND OPEN FOR KISS. Eric’s tenacity (which is fueled by KISS like a junkie’s joneses are fueld by smack) is one that is hard to match, and usually impossible not to notice. He sent a demo of our song “Last Words”, and the contest folks loved it. All of a sudden, holy SHIT dude, we could open for KISS?!?!?

Like a lot of the contests and shindigs we get involved in, our winning–our ability to share the stage with these rock gods–depends solely on the amount of votes we can gather up on the 101 The Fox website. You all have been amazing about voting for us in these contests, as we have won many of them, and it is continually appreciated by all of us. But, if you have helped us at all in the past, PLEASE don’t hesitate to help us this time. Using words I’m sure Gene Simmons has used at some point in his life, “This is the BIG ONE.”

Visit the 101 The Fox website to VOTE for THE DEAD GIRLS today, and thank you all!

Man, can you believe September is already here??  I guess that's what happens when you keep yourself so damn busy all year.  It may not sound like much, but getting two EPs out in one year (with absolutely no help from a label) was pretty damn tough.  I almost felt like I was back in school a few times, I felt so busy.  It soon got to the point where one thing I had to do eventually overlapped onto another thing...where DOES the time go?  Cleveland?

Our goal has still not been completely met, though--the icing on the cake is still to come!  By that, I of course mean our second full-length album, Out of Earshot.  Fortunately, our homies over at Now Spinning Records will be helping us kick out that jam.  On the unfortunate side, a full-length is waaaay harder to polish off than an EP (yes, even two EPs!), and there is a chance we just may not have enough time to get the album out by the end of October.  Releasing it any time after that would be like when that Weird Al movie UHF premiered the same weekend as Batman--everyone's going to be buying I-Phones and I-Pods for their kids, and grandkids, and grannies, and friends, and dogs for that matter.  So please, don't hate us if OOE doesn't make it out in '09--if it doesn't, just know that we tried our best; and hell, we've spent over 3 years on this damn thing already, so we wanna do it right!

In this last paragraph, I want to do two things:

1) THANK EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU WHO VOTED FOR US IN THE 2009 PITCH MUSIC AWARDS, making us KC's Best Pop Band for the second straight year!

2) Let all of you and everyone else know about the 2009 Indie of the Year contest at www.musicemissions.com, which The Dead Girls are now officially a part of!  To cast your vote for us, please click here: http://www.musicemissions.com/indieoftheyear/vote.php

Rock and roll ain't noise pollution!

Cheers,
Cameron

Hey rockers,

A big THANKS to all who have voted for us thus far for the 2009 Pitch Music Awards!  For those of you who have not voted, I have a few things to tell you:

1) Today is the LAST DAY TO VOTE!  If you have not voted for The Dead Girls yet, PLEASE go to this link (http://polls.pitch.com/polls/kcp/musicballot09/) and do it real quick.  There are lots of other great bands up for awards--like our buddies Hammerlord for Metal, or Republic Tigers for Indie--but if you don't have time to go through all the nominees, just skip down to BEST POP BAND and cast your vote for The Dead Girls, then hit SUBMIT!

2) The awards are Sunday, August 16th at Uptown Theater in Kansas City, MO.  Anyone is welcome to come!  One reason to do that would be to see our drummer Eric--now more commonly known as MEAN MELIN--do his air guitar schtick LIVE during the ceremony!

3) We appreciate your continued support, and your seemingly unqenchable thirst for the ROCK!

Cheers,
Cameron

Hey everyone,

So, we released "Te Quiero"--the middle of our 2009 musical trilogy--on Cinco de Mayo, and so far it's been getting some rave reviews.  For instance, both the PITCH and KANSAS CITY STAR have had some very positive things to say.  The latter is an announcement for our CD release at the Brick this Friday, May 15th, and was published in todays print edition as well.  Sweet!

Don't forget, you can currently hear all the original songs from "The Hair Trigger EP" and "Te Quiero" right here on our myspace page, as well as two tracks from the first album--ten songs in all!

Hope to see you at the Brick this Friday!

Cheers,
Cameron

What up kids, Cameron of The Dead Girls here.  I am not currently in school, but 2009 has already been busy enough to make the time fly as if I was.
February saw the release of our fist EP of the year, The Hair Trigger EP.  This EP features one song from our forthcoming sophomore full-length, Out of Earshot, as well as a few other demos and studio outtakes we had been working on up to that point.
On Cinco de Mayo, 2009, we will release EP #2 of the year, Te Quiero.  This EP will follow the exact same format--one song (again, the title track) which will be included on Out of Earshot, and five other demos/studio outtakes.  The Spanish theme is no accident--aside from our overall love and appreciation for European culture, the song "Te Quiero" is JoJo's ode to his Spanish girlfriend, Irene (pronouced Ear-En-Ay).  Normally that would be squeamishly cheesey, but Irene herself is pretty freakin' cool, so we don't mind participating in the tribute.
The other songs included on the EP are very cool, as well.  We like them because, aside from the fact that they are way more stylistically varied than any collection we have released as of yet, they represent The Dead Girls' further pursuit of taking matters into our own hands.  Everything, from the production of the songs to the artwork, was done all or mostly by the band members.  Of course, I can't forget to mention the super-sweet engineering and production skills of Chris Cosgrove, the 5th Dead Girl.  However, 3 of these songs were recorded entirely at home (lovingly called Low Bottom Labs), just like the last EP.
On Cinco de Mayo (Tuesday, May 5th), the Dead Girls will have a CD release extravaganza at The Replay (946 Mass St in Lawrence).  Our good buddies the ACBs will be kicking things off.  Things will be starting a tad earlier than normal--probably right around 10pm--since it's during the week, but when we recieved the opportunity to actually have this thing on Cinco de Mayo, we couldn't pass it up!  Hope to see you there...

Cheers,
Cameron

That's right folks, it's been a long road to new tunes, but we are OH so close! On Tuesday, Feb 3rd--pretty much three years to the day since we released our first album, "What A Perfect Ending"--we will officially unveil "The Hair Trigger EP". It features six new Dead Girls recordings, one of which will be featured on our second full-length album "Out of Earshot", due out in Fall. It is also only the first of a two EP set, which will be completed on Cinco de Mayo with, fittingly, "The Te Quiero EP". As a label has yet to have the fortune of acquiring us, we will be self-releasing this stuff until further notice. "Hair Trigger" will be available almost anywhere fine recordings are sold in the Lawrence/KC area, as well as in the Manhattan area. In a few weeks, all the songs will be available for purchase on I-Tunes and several other lovely online music stores. Needless to say, we are PUMPED beyond belief to finally have another record out, and we will be supporting it fervently starting very soon! Here are a few examples of this: 2/7/09 at Replay (946 Mass St) in Lawrence with Fourth of July; 10pm, $3. 2/13/09 at Auntie Mae's (616 N 12th St) in Manhattan, KS with The Goodbye Sort; 10pm, $4. 2/21/09 at Czar Bar (1531 Grand) in Kansas City, MO with The Klangs; 10pm. 2/27/09 at The Brick (1727 McGee) in Kansas City, MO with The Sexy Accident; 10pm. Cheers to you all! Sorry about the complete lack of paragraph breaks, but you know Myspace...it blows! Love, Cameron
