Zack began playing drums at the age of 4 and later took up singing and guitar. He later as he puts stumbled upon Mr Butterfield and was inspired to play the Harmonica. Zack indulges himself in learning about blues history and has a very charitable heart. he is also a cancer patient and his family has been hit hard by medical hardship.

Please send out the following letter.

Hi Folks!
This is Salli Squitieri and Gabriel Butterfield founders of the Paul Butterfield fund and Society (PBFS) established in honor of Gabriel's father—Paul Butterfield of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band)

We are writing to obtain support and sponsorship for Zack and his family to assist with traveling expenses enabling Zack to make the journey to our upcoming PBFS Gathering, Blues jam and Award Presentation. This event is an incredible opportunity for Zack who is n ardent Blues Lover to meet both upcoming and renowned and local and national performers. It is also an opportunity for Zack to experience first hand some of true Blues history in Clarksdale the blues Mecca and jam with some blues pioneers.

Zack and his family are traveling from Maine to join us in Clarksdale at the gathering and we are thrilled that Zack will have this great opportunity to meet, mingle and jam with some great musicians. Likewise he will be able to meet some of his fellow PBFS staff members.

Zack's family has been hit hard by an array of medical hardships and I am putting out a call to everyone to please jump aboard and help sponsor Zack.

We are trying to raise at least some funds to help their travel expenses.

If each one of us donated just $5.00 or $10 think what we all could do to help this family make the trip.

I am hoping that each of you will jump aboard and support Zack who has been a positive asset to our yahoo group, many blues sites, the blues community in general and an inspiration to most of us.

We all support bringing the blues to the next generation, well Zack is that next generation and what a great way to carry on the blues...

Current mood:  productive

Join us for our 2007 Annual PBFS Staff Conference and Gathering in Conjunction with Gabriel Butterfield's Birthday Celebration, Buffet and Blues Jam!!!

September 6th to 10th 2007
Clarksdale Mississippi

This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the educational and charitable ongoing projects of The Paul Butterfield Fund and Society (PBFS), a wonderful opportunity and forum to network and promote your creative endeavors and projects, a means to meet other Blues Societies,  an excellent forum to meet and play with Musicians from various parts of the country and a means for new opportunities...

This is not a festival, not a paid gig... It is an intimate and informal casual gathering and celebration packed with activities presenting one hot Blues Jam…

We hope to have each of you join us for this festive occassion and help make this a great Blues Jam...

It is our hope that this event will continue to grow and evolve each each bringing in a plethora of talent and networking opportunites...

The idea of our PBFS Conference was initially designed to enable our PBFS staff--(who are dispersed throughout the country) the opportunity to converge in one location all at the same time, a means to work, brainstorm, network and play together.

We then thought what a wonderful idea it would be to open this gathering up to the community, to friends and attendees as an added means to enhance awareness of the relatively newly established Paul Butterfield Fund and Society (PBFS) and create a networking forum creating new opportunities for musicans and societies.

We selected Clarksdale after a brief visit following our trip to Memphis where Gabriel accepted the award for his father's (Paul Butterfield's) induction into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame. We thought for all the obvious reasons that this was the perfect location.

Last year we had musicians come in from around the country as well as local Clarksdale musicians and musicians from Memphis. It was one hot Jam!

Last year as a group we visited local shops, museums, restaurants and juke joints. We attended other Blues jams and come Saturday night we had one hot birthday Blues Jams with musicians from around the country as well as local Clarksdale and Memphis musicians...

The trip's costs were kept to a minimal yet nonetheless packed with activities...

We really were delighted to be welcomed the way we were and this year the same eagerness is being extended to us.

This year we have already received confirmation from a variety of reps from assorted Blues Societies across the country.

This is a small and intimate informal and casual affair....enabling introduction and networking in a down home ambiance. Although I will be the crazed woman dashing about making certain all the details are being achieved...LOL

A great way to meet everyone up close and personal...

We would love to have you join us and would love the opportunity to meet you.

This year we will be going to the WROX Radio Museum, taking a drive to Helena Blues Murals and hopefully the Cultural Center in Helena. Thursday Night we will be going to Morgan Freeman & Bill Lucket's Juke Joint (Ground Zero Blues Club) for their Blues Jam, Friday a Mini Film Fest showing PB films and live interviews intended for the first time ever film documentary on Gabe's father (Paul Butterfield), Saturday will be Gabriel Butterfield's (My husband's) Birthday Celebration, Buffet and Blues Jam. (and much more)

You can reserve a room through me. (Rooms are going fast on the grounds with us.)
Simply provide:
1) Names of individuals coming
2) How many rooms
3) Dates of arrival
4) Dates of departure

Once I receive the information I make the reservation and I will notify you.
You then contact Bill at Shack-Up Inn and confirm the reservation.

The event is from Sept 6th to 10th. Gabe and I arrive a couple days early to set up and prep and we stay a couple days later to clean up and also meet with anyone interested in learning about PBFS, as well as make a last time round to thank everyone.

Some people come for the full time period while others come only for the weekend. For more information contact me (Salli) at butterfieldsociety@yahoo.com

Come join us for an event filled with great people, great conversation, new opportunies, great food and great music!!!

Reservations for this event are required.

We are looking forward to hearing from you!!!

Hi Folks:

As many of you already know the Paul Butterfield Fund and Society (PBFS) is sponsored by and is made possible as a result of Fractured Atlas a NYC based non-profit art organization that offers a vast array of services for members and artists of all genres...

A while back utilizing information from Fractured Atlas and staff,
I complied this info into a write up for our area newspapers and our newsletter. This information has probably been updated and you will find a vast amount of detail and services on their website.

The following is the information on Fractured Atlas:
Please, a visit to their website is a must
www.fracturedatlas.org

and their Myspace site is:
http://www.myspace.com/fracturedatlas

"Fractured Atlas"

Fractured Atlas is a non-profit arts service organization that provides services, resources, and support to liberate a nation of artists. From healthcare to publicity to collaborative production grants, they supply the critical tools for independent artists and art organizations. Thus enabling these individual artists and art groups to be able to focus on their creative responsibilities. By nurturing today's vital, but underrepresented voices, they hope to play a major role in fostering a dynamic and diverse cultural landscape of tomorrow.

Fractured Atlas, a 501 ( c ) (3) charitable organization is partially funded through membership fees. Critical additional support is and/or has been provided by scores of individual donors from across the country. Funds have been provided by The New York State Council for the Arts, Seedco & the Non-profit Assistance Corporation, The New York Arts Recovery Fund, The Non-profit Finance Fund, The Alman Brothers Band, Puffin Foundation, Target,  the Max and Victoria Dreyfus Foundation, Inc., and Bank of America, AT & T and  Ford Foundation Matching Gifts Programs and far too many others to list.

Member Services include "Fiscal Sponsorship", which provides the means for independent artists or unincorporated groups to apply for grants or receive tax-deductible contributions. Fractured Atlas knows that the arts need funding to survive. Fortunately, there are philanthropic individuals, charitable foundations and government institutions who recognize this need and provide support. Most independent artists, however, including countless small or new arts companies, lack the important 501 ( c ) (3) tax status that makes those donations legal and desirable. Additionally, it is becoming increasingly more difficult in certain cases to formulate foundations and experienced attorneys specializing in non-profit status are on a decline.

This is where fiscal Sponsorship comes in. Fiscal sponsorship is a system by which a legally recognized 501 (c ) (3) public charity, (such as Fractured Atlas) provides sponsorship for a project (which might be a one time project or an independent artist or even an arts organization) that does not have its own 501 (c ) (3) status. Thereby enabling that project to solicit and receive grants and tax-deductible contributions. All members of Fractured Atlas are allowed to apply for Fiscal Sponsorship.

Fractured Atlas also offers Grants, which are made in three categories.
1) Creative development grants are made to members who need funding for specific expenses relating to arts exploration or training but not to any particular project. Fractured Atlas believes in the importance of continued training, development, and exploration throughout an artist's career and these grants are designed to support that by targeting the artistic process and not the product. Examples of the types of expenses that might be funded include: workshops, classes, cultural exchange efforts or laboratory explorations. Priority is given to small arts organizations demonstrating a commitment fostering an environment of artistic risk-taking and ongoing exploration.
2) Organizational Development Grants are made to members who need funding for specific expenses relating to increasing the organizational strength and stability of emerging arts organizations. A major reason that so many young arts organizations fizzle out is that budget limitations prohibit them from prioritizing their own organizational stability. Grants in this category are not related to any specific project, but focus on enhancing the stability and life span of young arts organizations.
3) Collaborative Production Grants, which are by invitation only and represent the  most comprehensive of support from Fractured Atlas. Collaborative Grants include  both financial support and substantial in-kind support for specific extraordinary projects that are ambitious or entrepreneurial—both fiscally and managerial- to a degree that the applicant is unable to undertake them alone.

Fractured Atlas also offers its members Low Cost Health Care, which is often a challenge for so many in the arts community. As well as Legal services in areas such as non-profit incorporation, contracts, copyrights, Trademarks etc. They have a Job Center, which is an industry specialized online career-building tool, where resumes and job listings can be posted and searched. Additionally their PR Services for members enable access to an electronic press release distribution system with 255 different industry specialized, geographically targeted lists, with subsidized news released writing services available. Subsidized Consulting is available for emerging, small, and mid-sized arts organizations specializing in three areas 1) Organizational Growth & Transition 2) Special Project Design and Execution, and 3) Internet Strategy design and implementation. Further, they offer a Support Forum, which is an online networking tool for the arts community. Within the Support Forum  are announcements, general questions and suggestions, discussion and networking etc. The Fractured Atlas Support Forum is their vital salon, FAQ, knowledge base and speaker's corner. Each Discussion & Networking Forum (within the Support Forum) addresses a different topic, from how to best take advantage of their members services  to political issues affecting arts professionals today. The Support Forum is also the site for "Shameless Self-Promotion", where one can share events or make announcements. Anyone can post announcements in the support forum, but you have to be a member to have a users name. Members also have access to The Emerging Artists Fund,  which is the first ever endowment fund established to provide sophisticated financial resources and access to capital for emerging artists and arts organizations.

Fractured Atlas members in (or traveling to) the New York City area have access to a brand new multi-space rehearsal studio facility in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for just $  10. per hour. The space itself comes courtesy of Fractured Atlas member OfficeOps.

This remote studio features three spaces and the largest space offers 3,000 square feet of newly finished beautiful hardwood floors. The second offers 1100 square feet and the smallest of the three offers 550square feet, meeting just about anyone's rehearsal needs, from a single performance artist to a large dance company.

Fractured Atlas' Art Directory links one to arts-related Websites, and their directory includes animation, architecture, art history, celebrities, classical studies, costumes, crafts, design, education, other directories, graphics, illustration, movies, music, organizations, performing arts, photography, radio, television, video, visual arts, writers resources and much more. The Product Directory  lists Books, Magazines, DVD's, Video Cassettes and more courtesy of amazon.com.

The Fractured Atlas Board of Directors is comprised of approximately eleven members holding various areas of expertise. Susan Longstreet (chairman) is a partner in the real estate/corporate practice of the law firm of Winston & Strawn. She serves on the boards of several non-profit housing groups in the District of Columbia. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Longstreet participated in several local theatre groups both on stage and off. In recent years she has pursued her interest in performing arts ways.Larry Searcy (Vice Chairman) has been active for over thirty years in the fields of fundraising and non-profit management. He has served as a consultant for and on boards of a wide variety of organizations in the arts and human service fields, such as The United Way, The Epilepsy Foundation of America, and the Electronics Industries Association. Adam Forest is Fractured Atlas's Founder and Executive Director. Since Launching Fractured Atlas in 1997, he has increased the organization's annual budget from $ 7,500. to $ 600,000 and launched numerous broad-based service initiatives. As a performing arts producer, he has developed and presented new work in New York, New York; Washington, DC; Richmond, VA; Edinburgh, Scotland; London, England; and Tokyo, Japan. An experienced artist in his own right, Mr. Forest has worked as a theatre director, an actor, a playwright, and a musician, and has had his work presented in such venues as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and London's Pleasance theatre. He currently moonlights as a designer and programmer of dynamic Websites, and is the culprit behind fracturedatlas.org. Alexandra Gray is the Director of Development, with her background in theatre, having trained in New York University's Tish School of the Arts. She began her development career at Brooklyn's Target Margin Theatre.

Other members of the board include: Joshua Lindland (ex-officio) product management, financial director of the subjective theatre and holds a BA in International Studies, Robbie McCauley (ex-officio) award winning playwright and nationally recognized performance artist, Elisa Monte-world renowned modern dance choreographer and performer, Marylyn Rosenblum—Independent Education Market Consultant, Neil Shapiro-manager of Interactive Marketing International and serves as chairman of grants committee and has worked for some of the world's largest media companies, Kamal Sinclair Steels-Founder and Artistic Director of Universal Arts, previously a dancer and choreographer (STOMP, 1988 Emmy awards), and Amy Wrzesniewski—Assistant Professor of management and organizational behavior at the New York University.

Through the many services that Fractured Atlas offers, they have made it possible for countless artists to network and pursue their artistic endeavors, obtain health assistance through affordable insurance, and a multitude of varied needs and ultimately solidify artists and the arts community on a
global basis. Without the support of such organizations as Fractured Atlas many artists would fall to the wayside due to various realms of inability. Fractured Atlas offers a vast realm of support and expertise for the arts and is a much needed entity.
