Everything in my life has revolved around music in one way or another. This is how I choose to portray myself to the world. Sometimes I think about who I would have been if I wasn’t the “white rapper.” I think life would have been more stable but no where near as fun. I would probably have a job right now and more than a couple hundred dollars in my savings account. But I wouldn’t know as many people or have done half of the things that I remember the most over the last five years. I’m happy with what I’ve done, who I am, and how I see my life turning out. So how did I become who I am today? Here are the cliff notes…

I grew up listening to folk music and classic rock. I was in the NC Boys Choir for three years, and got kicked out for being a momma’s boy (funny story behind that one). I—like most other children—liked whatever my father did as a little kid. It was around 3rd grade when I started pushing to be more independent and become an individual. However, when you are that young you still don’t know who you are, so I learned from friends, music, and television. If I had to guess what attracted me to rap music I would say its energy matched mine. I was a hyper, out of control child that loved to push people’s buttons and follow my imagination wherever it decided to run. The upbeat, heavy sounds of Kriss Kross and Tag Team allowed me to be that person more than Peter Paul and Mary or The Kingston Trio. My best friend (and producer) since elementary school, Larry Gunnels, actually hated me the first couple months we met; he remembers telling his mom I was way too much to handle. Good thing we worked that out…

The songs I remember liking the most back in the day were Whoop There It IS, This is how we do it, Jump, Gangsters Pradise, etc… I’m really glad that my generation got to see the tail end of the cassette tape era. A walkman with no rewind button made me appreciate and pay closer attention to the music I was listening to. You remember those days? If you heard a line you liked and you wanted to hear it again you had to pop the tape, flip it, fast forward it, flip it again and hope you didn’t go too far back. I miss having to do that.

I think the first two rap CD’s I really got into were Puff Daddy’s “No Way Out” and DMX’s “It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot.” I know this isn’t anywhere close to the beginning of hip-hop, and I will be the first to admit that my old-school is a lot of people’s way down the line. What’s important is that I found a way to relate to the music when it was presented to me, and it wouldn’t be much longer until I forced my way through a closed door into a world that was very unfamiliar but surprisingly welcoming.

Current mood:  blessed
Category: Music

First off, just want to thank everybody for their support at the last couple of shows.
We couldn't do what we do without all of you.

You all may have noticed a slight change in the Addictive Nature lineup. Well, my backing band is The Groove Campaign.
They are a funky jazz tinged band consisting of  Bryan Lewis (keys), Shelby Smith (drums) and Tandrew Chadderton (bass). You can check them out at www.myspace.com/thegroovecampaign

Also be sure to show some love to the ever so talented Caroline Justice www.myspace.com/carolinejustice

We'll keep the hip-hop n' funk flowin' if y'all keep on comin' out...Peace

If you have ever seen us perform before you know what kind of atmosphere we bring…our fans are the best!!! You also know that we aren't your normal "rap" group. We use original beats as well as an entire live band that is awesome. Here is what I need everyone in Wilmington to do…

Go to the Palm Room. It is a great bar at the beach that always has awesome live music and drink specials. When you are there ask for Danny (the bar owner) and tell him how much you love our music and want to see us perform there. If Danny is not there, tell one of the bar tenders or the guys at the door. TELL SOMEONE!

Unfortunately being a Hip Hop band has a certain negative connotation—which is somewhat understandable. This is something that we deal with constantly when trying to book shows. The Palm Room seems to think that we might bring a crowd that isn't suitable for their establishment…tell them otherwise and let's pack that place out!

Love you all,

Mic Myers

I don't do enough of just posting things on here. This in fact is my first blog. I want to let everyone out their listening know about a few of the things that I'm working on right now. I am currently working on an album with Kotix which is sounding really good. We have been doing our recording over at DJ Completes house and it has been nice being able to focusing on writing and not mixing and mastering the music. He is working with pro tools and it is sounding good. I am also working on another album at the same time which is untitled. Any suggestions?

What I am also really excited about is the work Andrew Zenn is going to be doing with me in the near future. By the way he runs a company called Zenn Media and is really good at doing things like building websites and video recording. It just so happens that we are planning on doing both. We have decided to make a music video for "for a name" from Wishing on a Dream. I am really excited about doing something rediculos for that and being able to add it to the page. We are also building a website to show off and distribute all types of things. For instance I have five CD's, shirts and posters that I would love people to have. I also have friends with great music and merchandise. I thought it would be a good idea to also include paintings, necklaces, and anything cool that anyone wants the world to see. It will be called POETREE…and we are looking to grow.

Here is something that I just wrote:

I've never really liked cops I've had my share

Of being busted, cuffed and treated unfair

Permitted the man does his job that's different

But some people just abuse power when they get it

The difference between a cop and a pig is a cop knocks

A pig will bust shots in a kid without stopping to think

That God took his time to create him

So no man has any right to take him

Ask Peyton

It's our job to face them God is not government

Fight for our rights and accept any punishment

So you can pull me over or just ride behind me

I won't let your blue lights be the light that guides me

I'm not breaking any laws and what not

I just want my voice heard

So here are some choice words for corrupt cops

YOU ARE NO HIRE POWER but I hold no grudge

Because at your final hour you'll face the real judge

So come on and

(punish me with brutality yeaa)…an LG BEAT that is sooooo sick

Pz my people
