Hello everybody.

We here at Mostly Autumn feel that the perfect tonic to cheer us through these times of recession would be a good dose of ‘Mostly Autumn Live’ to stick in those stereos of yours and, as it happens, we are very happy to announce that this is to be made very possible in the very near future.

Mostly autumn “
Live 2009” will consist of two albums, set one and set two. The first of which is at the pressing plant as we speak and will be available in around two weeks. The second will be available when we have completed the mixing, which should make it sometime in November. Watch this space.

At first we were looking down the route of just doing one album and cramming in as many of the highlights as we could, but after speaking to so many of you the general consensus was that we should put the whole set out in its entirety, as two full blown albums exactly as these sets were performed - so this what we are doing. The only exception to this is the Genesis cover “Turn It on Again”, which, for legal reasons we must leave out.

We decided to record many of the shows earlier this year so we could hand pick the versions we liked the most, as opposed to recording the odd one and patching it up as many bands do these days. The result is that what you hear is what was played - warts and all, and these albums are great, honest representations of songs many of you will have witnessed.

There will be 130 minutes of music mixed at Fairview studios with John Spence, and we must say that we feel these albums are by far the best live releases we have ever attempted. In fact, we seriously believe that we have here the definitive versions of many of our songs; they have just evolved beautifully with the strength of our current line-up. It’s very live and very powerful so make sure you crank it up.

Well, thanks again for your support and we apologize for the time it has taken for the albums to come to light but the work load was and still is substantial, but we are almost there..

Cheers,

Bryan Josh on behalf of Mostly Autumn.

Ps. We will keep you posted soon on news of our new studio album which we are currently working on also, exciting times ahead

A Thank You

It seems incredible to me that we are now over ten years on from the release of “For All We Shared” our first album. In some ways it seems like yesterday, but when you gaze at a list of the best part of one hundred songs it somehow sobers your perspective of the time, but what a journey! It has been without doubt the most incredible decade of my life, and in turn I hope that “Mostly Autumn” has brought something to each and every one of you, for your support has without doubt been the life blood that has kept the spiritual engine that is Mostly Autumn alive, and for that we sincerely thank you.

Choosing the Songs

To celebrate this time, we felt it very appropriate, and to be honest, essential, to mark it with a three disc snapshot of what we’ve been up to. I won’t pretend that choosing the songs was easy. In fact at first it seemed an insurmountable task. “What do we leave off?” “How do we express all the varying textures of the different albums?” I knew from the start that we could never please everybody, possibly even ourselves, but the only way forward I could see was to compile three discs, all with a different individual feel and mood, yet still running like albums in their own right.

After many weeks of experimentation and intense listening I felt it suddenly start coming together and I must say that it was an incredible emotional, nostalgic, roller coaster ride and in the end we couldn’t help but feel a wonderful sense of pride. I know it’s probably not for me to say, but it really is rather good.

What really stands out to me is how songs from different eras went so well together, almost as if they could have been recorded on the same album, and how certain songs illuminate other songs that are around them in a way as never before.

Re-mastering

This was the final icing on the cake. We went to Fairview Studios with John Spence to look at re-mastering. We’ve been working with John for most of the last ten years and I must say that the relationship has just evolved so beautifully and productively that there was nobody else we could trust so implicitly to do the job. We vigorously and intensely re-mastered every single moment on these discs and I have to say that the results are fantastic. It has breathed fresh life into all the songs, even recent ones. I guess being able to step back from the material has allowed us to see more clearly what could be done to improve it sonically. All in all it worked beyond our expectations, as I hope you will find when listening.

Once again, thank you all. I hope you enjoy the ride, and here’s to the next ten years.

Cheers

Bryan Josh

Hello,
Hope you all have a great weekend and for all the Dutchies; Happy St.Nicolaas Day ;-)

York November 2008.

Review: Mostly Autumn, York Opera House
8:09am Tuesday 2nd December 2008
Ladies and gentlemen, I have seen the future of British progressive rock, and it's name is Mostly Autumn.

With apologies to a similar quote written over 35 years ago about the then-unknown Bruce Springsteen, if Mostly Autumn can achieve just a fraction of the worldwide acclaim and record sales of dear Brucie, then I would die a happy man.

Regularly regarded as one of the UK's greatest undiscovered underground bands over the past ten years, founder members and collaborators Bryan Josh and Heather Findlay returned on a cold, November evening to their home town to play a very special gig.

This gig was in support of their new CD Glass Shadows, but the audience was captivated by a strong two-and-a- half hour set. Fading Colours opened the proceedings with the eight- strong band hitting the stage with real drive and energy, perhaps a touch too much for the sound system to cope with inside the Opera House.

The mixing settled down so that familiar songs like First Thought and Evergreen blended beautifully with new compositions Flowers For Guns and Unoriginal Sin.

The first set was a joy, but after a brief break, the band returned and switched into top gear.

Highlights were Above The Blue, a tender ballad sung by Heather for her new-born son, Harlan, followed by Bryan's tribute to his father, a searing Heroes Never Die. Mostly Autumn are a band an old rocker like me can rejoice in, and as one Strictly Come Dancing judge may say, Fab-u-lous!

Hello,

Info here + Sound Samples.

Cool! A very nice album; don't expect a Bryan who suddenly makes jazz or house songs. No it's album that feels like an old jacket, comfortable and easy going. With some forgotten highlights in the pockets. Lazy Rockin' with a Bryan who has a very pleasant voice, sometimes reading a poem and of course great GREAT guitar work.
With Olivia, MR. Griffithes & Mr.Bourne (on drums) and Sarah Dean on flute.

Mmm i'm impressed!

Have a nice weekend, the laeves are falling,

Nick the webmaster and whatever.

PS Yes we still got 10 tickets for the Dutch shows at www.progwereld.org.

MOSTLY AUTUMN TEAM UP WITH ADRIAN EDMONDSON AND THE BAD SHEPHERDS FOR UK DATES

Following on from Uriah Heep, Jethro Tull and Bryan Adams , the latest in the long list of established celebrities who have discovered Mostly Autumn and invited the band to join them on tour is none other than Adrian Edmondson .

Ade is setting out on an extensive tour of UK clubs from October to December 2009 with his new band The Bad Shepherds .

The Bad Shepherds is the exciting new collaboration conceived by Adrian featuring Maartin Allcock from Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull , Troy Donockley renowned for his work with Mostly Autumn ,Maddy Prior, Midge Ure , Nightwish and others plus rising Irish music star violinist Eimear Bradley .

The Bad Shepherds revisit punk era classics and add arrangements inspired by traditional folk music . The effect is stunning as new wave anthems from The Jam , The Clash , Kraftwerk , The Stranglers , Squeeze ,The Sex Pistols and others are approached from an acoustic/ Celtic standpoint .

Bryan writes;

"Following the kind invitation from Adrian Edmondson, we are extremely pleased to announce that we will be joining the Bad Shepherds for a number of dates from this autumn.

This will be a chance for you to see a different slant on Mostly Autumn.

On this tour we will be performing a number of songs with Olivia Sparnenn standing in for Heather, (who will obviously be indisposed at this time, but getting ready to join us for the full line up concerts) and various other members of the band in a more semi acoustic setting.

We are very much looking forward to this tour, and the chance to perform songs in a different light to many new faces and hopefully some of you as well.

Hope to see you out there, let's have some fun!
Bryan Josh"
