From The Portland Phoenix:

The last time Maine music was connected to American Idol was when Taylor Hicks sang Ray LaMontagne's "Trouble" in 2006.
The last time As Fast As got big national exposure was when their song "Florida Sunshine" appeared on CSI: Miami - also in 2006.
And now these trends have combined, with Nick Whitten (who didn't make the final 24 that included Hicks, who ultimately won AI's fifth season) playing AFA's"Florida Sunshine" at a county fair in South Carolina. Take a gander:

See, usually we like to leave you all alone because we know what it's like to have 1,000,000 bands message you everyday because they booked a last minute show or one of their members finally figured out how to tune their shitty guitar.

That said, I learned to tune my Les Paul and here's what AFA has in the crock pot. This Thursday, we are playing the Alive @ 5 concert series at, well, 5:00 in Monument Square in Portland, ME. This show is with Pete Kilpatrick, who is very tall and popular.

Shortly thereafter on Friday, July 18th and Saturday, July 19th we will be headlining both a 21+ and an ALL AGES show (respective to dates) at the Empire Dine and Dance in Portland, ME. These shows have a purpose. In fact, these shows have LOTS of purpose.

1) They are part od WCYY's Summer Camp series. So that means good times a-ho.
2) We will be celebrating the release of the AS FAST AS I Really Like Your Girlfriend EP. This EP is available only through www.WCYY.com and Bull Moose Music.

Here's how it works:
Go to WCYY.com and help yourself to 3 out of 4 of the songs for free Free FREE! and then click on the link to "Girlfirend" to recieve a code. with code in hand, open your copy of 'Destroy The Plastique Man' (available exclusively at Bull Moose Music or through www.bullmoose.com) to reveal an email address located on the back of one of the inserts in the album package. Email us that code and we'll email you the song. SIMPLE!

3) We have new T-Shirts (even ones for girls, WOW!)

Hope you all are neat and are doing a great summer.

Love
-Spence

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
AS FAST AS to release CD and hold performances.

On March 11, AS FAST AS will release 'Destroy The Plastique Man' the follow up to their acclaimed 2006 national release 'Open Letter To The Damned.' In July of 2007, AS FAST AS parted ways with Octone/A&M, Their label of 2 years citing "a difference in creative vision."
The songs on the new record are of a decidedly personal nature and the production is a step in a new direction for AFA. Says Spencer of the recording process, "If at any point I felt we were just doing things automatically, I would stop the process and put the song away. I wanted to make a record that was completely outside of our comfort zone. One that would not only surprise listeners, but ourselves as well. I think we achieved that goal."
Singer Spencer Albee began writing 'Destroy' in January of 2007 while still living in Portland, OR. The album came to fruition in Deep Research, his Portland, ME based basement studio with Spencer not only writing and producing, but most of the engineering and mixing as well. Steve Drown provided some additional mixing and Jonathan Wyman co-produced, recorded and mixed the first single "Dancing A Murderous Tango" which is currently in rotation on Portland's WCYY.
Aside from his AS FAST AS cohorts Hache Horchatta, Zach Jones and Andrew Hodgkins, Spencer was joined by a host of Portland Maine's greatest talents in various roles as players, co-writers and co-producers. Among them are Stu Mahan, John Maclaine, Dominic Lavoie, DJ Moore, Aren Sprinkle, Jay Valani, Holly Nunan, Angela Doxsey, Dave Noyes, Emily Thomas and Garry Bowcott. The CD features unique cinema inspired packaging done in the style of a classic LP gatefold with postcard inserts designed by Patrick Corrigan and featuring lavish photography by Matthew Robbins. "Destroy The Plastique Man' was mastered at Gateway Mastering in Portland, ME by Grammy Award winner Adam Ayan.

On Tuesday, February 26th at 7:00pm, WCSH 6 will be featuring not only a deluxe live performance of the new AS FAST AS song 'Sleighjacking' but will feature a story on the recording process of 'Destroy The Plastique Man' on their local show, 207 with Rob Caldwell.

On Saturday, March 8th at 5:00pm, AS FAST AS will break the "street date" of the record by performing a free acoustic set at Bull Moose Music's Portland downtown location where listeners will be able to get an advance copy of the CD. After which, the CD will enjoy a one month exclusive through all Bull Moose Music Locations including online sales at www.bullmoose.com.

On Friday, March 14th, AS FAST AS will celebrate the release of 'Destroy The Plastique Man' when WCYY presents a 21+ performance at The Asylum on Center Street in Portland, ME at 9:00pm. AFA will be joined by the brilliant Dominic And The Lucid and will feature a performance by A Murder Of Crows, Portland's newest and most aggressive funk and soul horn band featuring Ryan Zoidis, Dave Noyes, John MacLaine, Eric Ambrose, Stu Mahan, DJ Moore, Tyler Quist Joe Parra, who will also join AS FAST AS during their set to help realize the songs from 'Destroy' in the live arena. Tickets for this event will be available at all Bull Moose Music locations.

So... we spent the past week in sunny Southern California... rocked three out-there shows, did some tanning by the pool; drinking, lots of drinking....
Spence and Andrew duked it out in a epic bowling match, which ended in a bitter Andrew and a much richer Spence. (There may have been some cheating involved.) All in all, good times were had in the world of AFA. The drive to Las Vegas was hellish. 110 degrees. No A/C. Last Show of the tour tonight, then on to Atlanta to start the tour with Butch Walker. 1996 miles in 2 days. Fun! Word.

The view from our undisclosed LA hangout.
