UP005X: Gant Garrard aka DJ Gant-Man "Disko Ain't Dead" 12"

Side A: Gant's Disko Medley
Side B-1: In Tha Hood (Wanna Party)
Side B-2: Stompin'

release date: early march

DJ GANT-MAN PRESS RELEASE:

-what are you known for in the music world?

DJing, producing and remixing. I'm mostly know for house music. Old school house, disco house, and and ghetto juke house. I also produce hip hop and I remix hip hop and R&B songs and turn them into juke house songs.

- how did you make the Disko Medley?

That medley was a challenge for me cause I made it on the MPC 3000. That wasn't easy.....well a lil easy for me cause I kills on the MPC and it was fun to do that cause nobody has done that ever on a sequencer. it took me 8 hours to do that and the whole thing is 15 mins. (about 33 sequences) I had top sample, chop, edit and get those live bands on beat. No computer, no time strech, no pro tools at all. Just vinyl and MPC. I would want to do a full cd of those type of edits. Too long and to hair pulling. I'll have to charge a grip for thaat. Not to be big headed but I know what I got cause I do this music thang like Bill Gates does Microsoft.

-what were you tryin to do with this EP? what did you end up achieving?

I just wanted to show my production skills and keep that disco sound alive. I achieved what I always achieve, a great production by yours truly!!!

-what's your biggest influence for it? (musical or not)

The DJ's and producers form the 1970's and 1980's.

-Are you a live performer? how would you describe your performance work?

Yes. Especially when I DJ. Straight up mixing live no pre recorded phoney DJing in me. I haven't done it yet but I can do a live PA with my MPC and or computer. I'll say when I perform it's a lot of energy. You can tell that I'm into what I'm doing.

-how long have you been making music?

17 years of DJing and my 13 years of producing.

-how do you describe your sound?

A str8 up South-Side Chicago Afro jukin' sound !!!

-what part does compromise play in your work? is it useful to you and of so, why?

It plays a big part and it's useful beacuse you have to know how to work well with other people. There is no I in team especially when you need people to help you create. I can do 50/50 work with any DJ or producer. I have great people skills.

-what's your happiest moment in your work experience?

I have yet to have the happiest but I have a few happy moments. I'll say when I produced a juke remix of Beyonce's "Check On It" single in 2005 and the label picked it up. That made me the first juke house producer from Chicago to have a juke remix on a major label and for Beyonce. Another happy moment was when I had a 5 week residency at El Divino in Ibiza, Spain. That was my first time in Ibiza and I got so much love and respect from fans. I also was happy when I produced my first solo EP when I was 15 yrs. old on Dance Mania Records in 1995.

-please list up three of your favorite contemporary / emerging musicians

Jerry McAllister of Mr. Ali., Azza (formely known as K. Fingers) and Glenn Underground.

-please list your three favorite words

juke, juke and more juke!!!!!!
