..

- The new website is up and looking great visit www.sistersays.com and explore the design.

.. ..

- Last week Sister Says performed alongside the ....Vancouver.. ..Circus.. ..School.... in a truly astonishing event. Look for video highlights in the upcoming month. (If you saw the Vancouver Metro Newspaper a nice picture of Gill and two other performers was published from the event.)

.. ..

- In mid November Sister Says heads to ....Toronto....’s Q Music Studios to finish mixing their debut album.

- Sister Say's BIRTHDAY SHOW on Sunday November 2nd at the Railway Club (....579 Dunsmuir Street.... on the corner at Seymour, ....Vancouver....) is approaching quick!!! Everyone is invited and we expect a very full room. Tickets for the show are $10 and we have them. Now you ask why is this such a special show? Well 3 very important reasons: To celebrate the birth of Gillian and brother Robert, because our feature act for the night is the Dawn Pemberton Quartet.

.. ......Gillian Thomson- Vocals....

Gillian will be providing the vocals and kick ass dance moves.  A powerhouse vocalist, with the ability to captivate a crowd with her charm, voice and style. Her sound is truly one and a million and not to be compared with a hybrid of jazz, soul and something deep in the cosmos.....

.. ..

Robert Thomson- Keyboards and Sounds....

Rob will be switching it up a little and will be providing the sonic backdrops on the old synths. We’ve been experimenting with the sounds in rehearsals and it sounds great.....

.. ..

.. ..

Alongside with Sister Says this week @ The Biltmore Cabaret and Railway Club ....

.. ..

Jeff Younger- Guitar....

He is the one to call in ....Vancouver.... if you want improvised Jazz or anything heavy and out there. But with Sister Says he takes a more laid back approach only unleashing his killer chops when the situation calls for it. With a bachelor of Music Degree, majoring in modern classical composition, and with a strong secondary emphasis on jazz guitar, he is always up to something tasty when he picks up his guitar.....

Past and Current Projects: The Family Stump, Space 9 and Jeff Younger’s Devil Loops.....

Drums - Don Powrie
Don epitomizes his performance & recording versatility with a wide spectrum of artists: Notably, New York based artist/producer, Todd Rundgren; 1990 ALCAN Jazz Festival award winners, “Creatures of Habbit”; Funk based “H.B. Concept” (European Tour); country artist “Rocky Swanson”. A member of “Skywalk”, and a tribute to their CD, “Great Northern”. Powrie is power, one of the most in demand musicians, live & in the studio, doing many radio & television spots for CBC and internationally.....

Wynston Minckler – Bass                                                                                                                                             Wynston is in his second year studying music at ....Cap.. ..College..... Although he has jammed with the group on several occasions, this will be his first time playing with Sister Says officially. He has a tasteful tone and sophisticated approach to the Sister Says arrangements. ....

........................

Our minds are melting with creativity and we are ready to finish this debut album of ours. Yes I know the dates have been changing but this is it. We are booking our flights for ....Toronto.... to finish our final mixes at Q-Music Studio for November. I can’t wait! In between this time of not being in the studio and doing the odd show we have been coming up with new songs inspired by the pages of my past and summer reading and Rob’s mad approach to beats. Looks like we’re ready for the next album… Oh and we have fall shows coming up starting October. You can see us at Backstage Lounge on Oct 9th, The Rhizome Café on Oct 17th, The Biltmore on Oct 30th, and The Railway Club on November 2nd. We plan to fit in a few shows here and there during our recordings in ....Toronto.... so check back for updates.

Just posted a new track we recently recorded at Q Music Studios called "The Only Way". We had written the song last year liked it and well kind of forgot about it. Searching through some of rough demos we rediscovered "The Only Way" and started performing it.
When he headed over to Toronto last month and found out we would have Davide Direnzo (Jacksoul) available for some sessions we knew he had to get him on this song. This also marks the first time we had a guest bassist on a Sister Says song as I produced and one of Canada's best George Koller provided the low end. We we're also very lucky again to have Robert Piltch on guitar and Donald Quan on the wurly. We're loving the track and think it shows off another vibe of Sister Says!

Sibling duo helps open B.C.'s Olympic pavilion

By Sarah Payne - The Tri-City News - June 11, 2008

When Sister Says recently played their first international gig it was at a unique home away from home.

The rising aboriginal band — Port Coquitlam's Rob Thomson, 24, and his sister, Gillian Thomson, 20 — were in Beijing, China for the opening of the B.C.-Canada pavilion in time for the 2008 Summer Olympics. In addition to Sister Says Rob plays bass in another aboriginal band called Bitterly Divine; they were invited to play at the pavilion opening and several other Beijing events and Rob convinced the group to bring Gillian in for back-up vocals.

"In addition I asked if we could also play as Sister Says," Rob said, "so we were able to get some gigs out of it as well."

The sibling duo played a show at Beijing's Central University of Nationalities, a post-secondary institution designated for minority nationalities where anthropology and ethnology are the main research areas. Sister Says also played at the 24th annual Canadian Ball, a corporate event that brings together some 500 Chinese and Canadian businesspeople every year, before the final gig at the pavilion opening.

"It was definitely a great experience in a lot of ways," Rob said.

"We found the Chinese audiences very receptive... we gave away some CDs so I think we booked a bit of a fan base out of it."

And while Beijing is miles away geographically it was also a culture shock for the duo, who are of Haida descent. He and Gillian counted a visit to the Great Wall of China as a top highlight but found Beijing itself "as polluted as people say it is — when the skies are clear it's a beautiful city but when it's foggy and polluted it's not exactly a pleasant place to walk around in."

Walking into the pavilion on the last day of their trip, and being greeted by pictures of B.C.'s mountains and coastline, felt like coming home, Rob added.

"You really do get the Canadian experience so when you've been away from home for a bit, even if it's just for 10 or 11 days, you really appreciate it."

Sister Says' Chinese adventure came just a few days after a trip to their Toronto studio to wind up their latest and as yet untitled album.

A week of all-nighters got the two inches away from finishing the project, with just a few tweaks left to work through, and they expect to release the album later this summer.

Once that happens Sister Says plans to focus on their Vancouver shows to build a strong fan base and momentum here at home.

They're playing at the Yale in Vancouver on June 19 and at the UBC Museum of Anthropology to mark National Aboriginal Day on June 21.
