UNTITLED BOOK PROJECT!....

Way back in 1996, Untitled members created 100 unique books comprised of sheets of original artwork.

The books were created as a group effort and were sold to raise money for the group.

Since this book was so cool, we are planning to recreate a 2009 version.

At this week's meeting we will be discussing the best way to accomplish this goal. If you're interested in participating, please come to the meeting or let us know by email.

We will probably have some kind of sign up registration put together for this project soon.

Sorry about the confusion of the meeting date in last week's newsletter.  Sometimes when the newsletter format is copied from week to week, the most obvious details are forgotten. :)

We have several things planned for upcoming meetings and a project to take place outside of the weekly meetings.  Read on!

ATC SWAP THIS WEEK....

Artist Trading Cards.  This is a great way to swap art with other artists.  We will be bringing and creating ATCs this week.  Interested?  Read below.......

Huh?  Call it whatever you want, but we are planning a skit based instruction video for showing how to make your work "Ready To Hang". 
Yes, that very important, but seemingly dreadful task that all artists must learn will be demystified in an informative, but hopefully entertaining video to be posted all over the internets.

Wanna write for it, help shoot it, star in it?  Come to the meeting this week to share your ideas, skills, and help.
Have your sketch in hand at the meeting.  (or email it to us before Wed. afternoon)

Shooting is tentatively planned for Jan 16 & 17.  This will be confirmed this week.....

ATC - Artist Trading Cards!....

At this week's meeting we will be having a little art swap (optional).  We usually do this during the holidays, but since our scheduling was thrown off at the end of last year, we will do the swap now.  If you like it, we can do it even more often.

Plan to bring:....

• Art-making tools (pens, pencil, markers, etc)....
• Paper in the form of ATC (2.5 x 3.5 inches). You can actually buy these pre-cut at an art supply store.....
• Finished ATCs (optional)....

We will have some of these things available at the meeting.

Below is a little bit about the ATC. 

ATC, or Artist Trading Card
"Artist Trading Cards are individual art miniatures which pass hand to hand. Artist Trading Cards are typically made on a base of card stock. However, ATCs have been created on metal, stiffened fabric, plastic, clay, glass, balsa wood, leather, embroidery canvas, acetate, heavy watercolor paper, and many other materials. The art on the cards can be done in any media: textile arts, pencil, watercolor, acrylic, oil, collage, scratch board, mixed media, assemblage, digital art, calligraphy, beadwork, rubber stamps, carved soft block stamps, pen and ink, colored pencil, airbrush, pastels, and many others - anything artists use.  The only standard requirement for an ATC is that its height and width measurements be 2.5" x 3.5" (64 x 89 mm), either vertical (portrait) or horizontal (landscape) orientation. The sky is the limit for every other aspect of the art."

THE BAD NEWS....

Abominable Art Show is
not taking place this Friday December 12. 

We are SO VERY sad and sorry about this and have tried to work it out so many
ways, but unfortunately things sometimes happen beyond our control. 
Please understand that we have done everything we can do to prevent this and
make it right.  Please bear with us and your fellow artists during this
time.....

THE GOOD NEWS....

We are still having a
show!  It is just postponed a week until December 19.  Instead of
completely canceling the show, we have worked it out with the venue to set up
next week.



We will be emailing the artists who have signed up with details about next
week.  IF you do not receive an email on Tuesday the 9th and you thought
you signed up, email us asap!  We will also need to know if those of you
who registered cannot participate next week.



The registration is full!  There are around 125 artists registered right
now!  So, we cannot accept any new artists next week. 



There may be a few changes in installation for next week and we may be
asking you to help install panels on Wednesday instead of Thursday of next
week.  Look for details soon.....

To assist Gallery East,
we created a survey to give us an idea of how many of you had interest in
participating in this Saturday's event. This is a first come first serve

We have a venue! Gallery East at 5 Points in East Nashville will host our winter show.  This is a great space in a great location.

Gallery East has graciously invited Untitled Abominable show artists to hang artwork during an event on Saturday, December 13, 2008. (the day after our event)
This is a good opportunity to show your work during a well attended event. Please be aware that the details are flexible at this point and that it is NOT an Untitled event.
To assist Gallery East, we have created a survey that will give us an idea of how many of you plan to participate. This will be a first come first serve basis, so please plan to participate if you sign up to make it fair for all.

The UNTITLED Nashville Artists' Group invites bipeds of all natures to come in from the cold, urban winter to its 2008 Winter Show "Abominable Art Show." This free, one-night-only art event goes wild on Friday, December 12^th from 6 to 10 pm at an unidentified location.

Real or Hoax?  Possible Untitled Sighting Sparks Debate

At the Abominable Art Show, approximately 100 established and emerging Nashville visual artists present you with artwork in a wide variety of mediums. The latest quarterly Untitled installment isn't just free to attend- IT'S FREE TO PARTICIPATE IN! Untitled is showing Nashville area artists and humanoids its appreciation by waiving the winter show participation fee, already near mythical for being one of - if not the lowest - artist show fees in town.  Extinction is unacceptable and the unconventional art group is determined to exist and thrive during abominable economic times.
 
Untitled is a legendary community of artists creating visual art events in locations outside of the traditional gallery scene.

The Phantom of the Wilds - Infrared Hunt for Untitled

An expedition is underway to identify the mysterious and migratory Untitled location.  You are encouraged to provide your own clues and evidence for localisation of the upcoming Untitled event, Abominable Art Show, on December 12.  Help us track down this elusive group of cryptids.  Any contribution to the search will be most appreciated.

About Untitled:

UNTITLED Nashville has introduced new artists to the community since 1991, is comprised of several hundred artists, and has left an indelible stamp on the burgeoning Nashville art scene. UNTITLED members include staff and exhibiting artists from Zeitgeist, Dangenart, Plowhaus, Twist Gallery, and (fov) gallery.  UNTITLED members also include art faculty, students, and graduates from Watkins College of Art and Design, Belmont University, Vanderbilt University, Savannah College of Art and Design, Florida Atlantic University, Lipscomb University, TSU, Fisk University, MTSU and many other fine institutions.

UNTITLED is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting artists, reaching new art audiences, and offering alternative visual arts experiences in the Nashville community. The group's meetings and shows provide opportunities for artists to connect, collaborate and learn from each other. Untitled would like to offer a very special thank you to artists in the form of waiving the winter show participation fee.
YES! You read correctly. You do not have to pay to be in the winter show! Untitled will happily accept and encourage donations during this time.

Brief Description:

Special Opportunity Funding ("SOF"), a project of Untitled artist group, is an artist-driven alternative source of funding and support designed to help individual artists take advantage of unique opportunities that will significantly benefit their work or career development, or to aid artists faced with unusual needs. Visual artists may request grants in amounts ranging from $100 to $1,000 for specific works in progress, upcoming opportunities, or special needs. Untitled does not provide general subsidies for an artist's ongoing work, only for one-time events or needs.
