Current mood: blah
I recently started a new blog, craftvideos.blogspot.com, a daily video fix of people making things. Today's offering is from a sand animation artist. I think it is really beautiful. Take a look and let me know if you agree.

Ok, artists, now that I have your attention, what I need is your help! Woodturning is often neglected as an artform, and many of it's practisioners don't get much beyond the craft skills of being able to make things. One famous turner recently commented that it is "crucial to gain an awareness of other media." To help woodturners develop their work as art, the Wood Turning Center has set up an online forum category The Art of Woodturning. It is my hope that we can encourage artists from other disciplines to drop by and join the discussion. That is were you, my MySpace art friends come in! Do please stop by from time to time and add your perspective to the conversation. I blogged about this to my woodturning friends in Discussing The Art of Woodturning.

Current mood: cheerful
In the last 24 hours I have come across several postings that have made me wonder about some fundamental aspects of art. First was a blog post by a fellow woodturner from just down the road in Truro. He showed a vessel he has made and asks whether it is art or craft. There are a good number of comments expressing different viewpoints Then there is a post on The Artful Life, the blog of The Guild, where Lisa says, amongst other things, "Artists, on the other hand, design their work to be kept forever."
Dube has posted some work by ceramicist Cindy Kolodziejski and asked for comments, which he gets. Question is, do labels matter, can they be defined, or is commercial success all that matters?

I may have been quiet here lately, but things are still happening. I did a craft show a couple of weeks ago in New Glasgow. My next will be in Truro on Nov 18/19. Recently I got some big logs cut up and am busy roughing them out for salad bowls.

My friend Denise Thea has featured one of my works on her profile page. She is really into circles, something my lathe finds easy to make.

My friend Dube has recently started a new Myspace page, Dube II. Here is how he describes it: "Its intended to generate conversation about art and creative endeavors. I've begun posting blogs about artists and their work with the intent of hosting meaningful discussions about art making, the creative process and various related topics. If interested, add and subscribe to my blog. My hope is that this will become an interesting art community where we inspire one another and good ideas and thoughts can be shared."
His first two blog entries look at work by Regina Heinz and Peter Voulkos.
