Each day I find it a little bit harder to watch some and listen to some people who have mastered the art of looking us in the face and saying whatever they wish to pass off as facts. I have watched quite a few live speeches on TV and within ten minutes I have watched very opinionated people with their own agenda make statements which contradict everything I have just seen and heard. That is very very sad. Much sadder are the people who trust these individuals and accept their words as truth. I am sad about the general "American Idol", "Jackass", Soap Opera mentality of so many people. They don't get it. The most unreal thing in the universe is REALITY TELEVISION. There is a genuine difference between fact and opinion. Understanding how simple minded and lazy the public can be, I think it is spiritual ugly to broadcast half truths and outright lies as FACT.
As has been said by a few people wiser than I , "If you don't stand for something you may fall for anything!" It is not against the law to broadcast lies on TV as news. As with anything else you read don't be afraid to Google that one. You know you are accepting lies from so many people in your life.
When you do there is only one person to blame.

One of the cornerstones of business is to cut your losses and move on. Many a hit artist has found themselves out in the cold when the sales report on their latest CD has come back weak. Movie projects get shelved, TV shows get canceled and stocks take a plunge. It is a simple economic decision. Rooting for the underdog is a sucker bet. Why lose your shirt dragging a dead horse when you could be flying high riding on the latest band wagon. From time to time, much to the amazement of the unbelievers dreams do come true. IBM rejects Bill Gates and Microsoft is born. NBC cancels Star Trek and an entertainment empire grows to span galaxies where no man has gone before. For better or for worse Queen Isabella believed in Columbus, EMI signed the Beatles, men walked on the moon, Darth Vader had twins, The NY Giants won the Super Bowl and Barack Obama became president. There is no end to the list of events in human history which owe fruition to a person of vision having a dream and the faith to make it so. Only Clive Davis knows why he stuck with Whitney Houston through her personal recession. Anybody else would have kicked her to the curb and distanced themselves long ago. As a music lover who longs for a return to good songwriting and professional artistry I am glad that he did. The new album is balanced and pretty decent. I pray that Whitney honors this opportunity and not do a Daryll Strawberry.

Yesterday,
I posted a blog about independent thinking and stupid people. In the darkness of night with no pomp, ceremony or notification my blog simply disappeared. I will be the first to admit that my words were very harsh and for me they were even acid. However, I do not think that they rose to the level of inciting a worldwide riot. My greatest concern is that I do not know WHO blocked my blog. Was it blocked by a computer program which is programmed to intercept certain words or subject matter about certain public figures? Was it erased by a Lone Ranger working behind the scenes at Myspace who was personally offended thus compelled to protect his hero. I am so glad that I forwarded that blog to every place I could. It's OK that no one will read it here. More important for me I am now 100% sure that free thinking people while free to imagine what they will are not free to express themselves in the "LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE!"

From A Distance.
I was 17 or 18 years old and as usual for
me on a Friday morning.I was in the basement of the Apollo Theater to
watch rehearsal for the new show coming in for the week. There are no
words for that tingling feeling but we all know when we are in the
presence of someone special. That's how it felt when 9 year old Michael
Jackson walked into the room. His oversize apple-jack hat only added to
the image of the Man-child. As little as he was there was no doubt in
any ones mind that he was a giant talent. We never again were in the
same room.but from a distance there was always interaction. In
1984 I got a call from my old friend Jerry Greenberg at Atlantic
Records. He asked if I would be interested in recording a Michael
Jackson medley It was pretty clear Michael had a chance of winning a
few Grammy Awards that year..I recently saw the 12 inch on Ebay selling
for 165 Dollars.I guess tomorrow the price may double of triple.
Over the years I watched two young producers, Teddy Reilly and later R.
Kelly, who both pasted through my life growup and get a shot at working
with Michael. In a way I am sad that I will now never have that
opportunity. I guess it should give me some satisfaction that I had
some influence from a distance, .
May he rest in peace.

I have a business associate. In the past 5 days he has shaken my foundation by keeping his word on two occasions and by being early for a meeting. Over the twenty-five years I have known this person there were two things I could depend on. If he made a promise, there was a 50 percent chance that it would be altered or broken. If he made an appointment, he would be late if he managed to show up at all. When I mentioned how impressed I was by his new found seriousness and improved performance, he paused and said, "Obama." This past Saturday evening as I rushed to make a studio appointment, I realized that a young clerk in training had failed to charge me for some items and I had $20 too much change. In the middle of our economic condition, it is easy to find a silver lining in this situation. However, I thought about how easy it is for a young lady to get fired when her cash drawer comes up $20 short. I did not hesitate to return to the store and rectify the situation. As I walked away she was almost in tears as she kept saying, "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!" Just before the glass door eased close I waved and said, "Thank Obama." Everywhere I look in my life I have noticed an electricity in the air. People are smiling and being a little more civil. The change begins. If I am in a dream I only have one favor to ask of you. Let me enjoy this change for a little while longer.

I wrote this nine months ago. Thats when this baby was conceived. _________________________________________ The Audacity Of Hope Current mood: amused Sunday night I watched what has got to be a miracle. With just about one minute left to play in the Super Bowl a sequence of events began to unfold which would have made a Hollywood screen-writer shake his head. Four highly improbable events; a quarterback emerges from a crowd of players escaping by the skin of his teeth. His jersey almost ripped as the last opponent's hand slipped away; Then there was the long pass down field and the catch - with the player just barely clutching the football against his helmet as he flips over; then with twenty some odd seconds left the Giants do something they had failed to do during most of the game. They completed one electrifying, easy pass. TOUCH DOWN. The odds of this sequence of events would surely be close to one in a billion trillion. It is often said that life is stranger than fiction. Thus in a world where the impossible becomes reality. In a world where the wife of the Senior House Representative from New York Charles Rangel has endorsed Barak Obama while the Honorable Mr. Rangel has gone for Hillary Clinton. In a world where the wife of republican Governor Schwarzenegger of California has endorsed Barack Obama. Suddenly, all things become possible. It would not at all surprise me if one day soon even Chelsea Clinton finds her own voice and announces that she too endorses the next president of the United States, Barak Obama. Then again, who are we to pretend to know the mind of God?
