There is a battle for land right here where I stand
It's a strange kind of irony to look to the band
Where the sky meets the land as far as the eye can see
And see nothing but space and grass and fields
And the farmers who farm sheep and the fences that keep
them from roaming around keep people from stewarding ground.
Folk who know how to grow consciously
Folk for whom sowing seeds that grow fruitfully is inherent in their destiny.
For their communities and their families; our future their integrity.
On grass the sheep feed
Where vege beds and fruit trees
Could be.
How much meat do we need?
To feed our greed?
How many sheep will bleed?
How many planes will speed?
Through the clouds to carry food
Grown under plastic abroad
Who to blame? Who's the fraud?
Who to shame? You know the score.
The cherry tomato itself isn't our enemy
No, we must take more responsibility
We're in an all out civil warfare
With ourselves, our inner consumer
The year round strawberry eater
The all year nature beater
Well we're about to defeat her
Cos she's gasping for breathe
We're dicing with death.
In our communities and our families;
our future our integrity.
She's calling us to see sense and be sense and recompense.
We're not chasteful; we're wasteful
The new school could be so cool
by always clearing their plate
It should be a new rule
brought in by the free-state.
A pea left on a plate
as wrong as leaving an open gate
in the countryside when out walking
though as I'm talking, I'm reasoning…
…more gates ajar; more sheep displaced…
more pastures, more space, resting: fertile in wait.
For the grower with vision and the farmer with heart
For the five layered forest garden for the laden apple cart
Ducks and slugs and mushrooms live in harmony
With balance and sensitivity commence the only sane anarchy!
We don't require much instruction, we don't need any charts.
For this way of being lives on in our hearts.
Our genes know the process for helping plants grow.
Seeds sewn and watered? Now lets go!
To a future that yields more than only grass and sheep.
A promise that to our childrens' children we will always keep
A promise that at night helps our weary bodies sleep
We're turning it around, we're seizing our power
Cos the earth watch is ticking and hour after hour
The black gold gets thicker and our lives are gonna change
But our consciences are clear
and there's no time now to fear.
To call in change or stay the same?
The moment is now and the time is here.
