Well they forgot to tell all the interactive, film and music creative types to stay home and pad their bank accounts.  Austin rocked SXSW! We had record crowds and the street and party vibe was awesome.  Wavy Gravy was in town promoting an amazing new documentary about his life and mission.  WAM-o-philes took in TWO of the screenings, what an inspirational film Michelle Esrick put together.  Cudo's also go to Emory Joseph who's gospel arrangement of Wavy Gravy's original song "Basic Human Needs" rocked the credits.  This indy film ( and Wavy!) are going to be making the rounds of spring and summer film festivals and also a rumored college tour. If you get the chance to screen "Saints Misbehavin" we highly recommend it.  Hopefully a distribution deal will make it accessible for all in the near future! Wavy also joined us for Austin's "Million Musician March" on Saturday. What an honor to have Wavy and Michelle bless us with a little old school activism and inspiration...just what the doctor ordered in these times.   Well...I ain't gonna study war no more...down by the riverside....

It's really late….no, it's really early.  It doesn't matter WHAT time it is, because while you are on here desperately searching for that girl who served you at Jamba Juice, Alejandro Escovedo is conquering the world.  Unless you live in Austin, TX, there is a very good chance that you have never heard the name of this singer, songwriter, guitarist who has been rocking, recording and touring for over three decades.  If that is the case, you are not alone…but not for long!  On June 24th, Alejandro released his ninth solo record, "Real Animal", and music lovers, music critics and the mainstream media have all taken notice.  It's about time!  Escovedo's recorded legacy started in the 70's with California  punk band, The Nuns.  He moved on to play in groups such as Rank and File, and True Believers, featuring fellow Austinite Jon Dee Graham.  Since the early 90's, he has offered up a generous legacy of solo recordings that have earned him a loyal worldwide following…with a voracious appetite for MORE!

The release of "Real Animal" has forced the eyes of the media wide open.  In the past month, he has been making the scene on the late night talk show circuit as well as "The Today Show".  Earlier in the year, he joined Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in Houston, TX for a version of Escovedo's new song, "Always A Friend".  Here in Austin, Alejandro has recently played a series of sold out shows at the Continental Club, a jam-packed in-store performance at Waterloo Records and headlined the Keep Austin Weird Festival.

Alejandro Escovedo's story is a lengthy one….full of ups, downs and an endless trail of some amazing music!  Check out his profile.  Learn his story.  Hear his songs.  Check out that long list of tour dates, and GO SEE HIM!   One of the best live shows you will ever see…GUARANTEED!

Okay, so you didn't find the Jamba Juice girl.  You DID find Alejandro Escovedo, and chances are good that his music will stay with you much longer than she ever would.

Best of luck to you, Alejandro.  Thank you for so much great music, and for helping to make Austin the coolest city in the world!

You've been spending WAY too much time online!  I know, the weather has been horrible.  That's no longer a valid excuse.  Turn off the computer, put your pants on and get thee to your local cinema because there's finally a movie worth seeing.  February 1st marks the premier of John Sayle's newest film, "Honeydripper".  Set in 1950's Alabama, it is the story of a young Blues guitar player hired to save a bar on it's way out (literally and figuratively).  Aside from it's top notch cast (Danny Glover, Charles Dutton to name a few), "Honeydripper" is the acting debut of Austin's own Blues heavyweight, Gary Clark Jr.  Clark has been part of Austin's notorious Blues scene for years.  In 2006, he was named "Best Blues Artist" at the Austin Music Awards.  Aside from his own gigs, he is regularly seen onstage with luminaries such as Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin and members of Double Trouble.  In "Honeydripper", Clark's musical performances were filmed live-not pre-recorded.  This film is getting some damn good reviews, and will surely take Clark's career to the next level.  For more info on the film, go to the official "Honeydripper" website.  If you want more Gary Clark, Jr, go see him live!
Best of luck to you, Gary!   Thanks for keeping the Blues alive in Austin...and beyond!
