December 16, 2007 - After three appearances in the USA this year, Japanese alternative rock band LiN CLOVER announced a indefinite "suspension" of activities this week on their website. Best known for their imaginative lyrics and dark, experimental music style, the band was nominated in 2007 for Best Japanese Rock Band in Shojo Beat Magazine.

The band will finish their 5-year run together in two live shows in January 2008, giving their native Japanese fans a last chance to see them live for a long time or possibly forever. USA fans experienced live performances in 2007 in Seattle (Sakura-Con), San Francisco, and Los Angeles (Pacific Media Expo).

The statement, written collectively by YuRi, Ren, and Nao, makes a point of thanking their fans and promising that the members "will move on to new paths."

The full text from the Japanese website is translated below.

"This is all of a sudden but it has been decided that LiN CLOVER will suspend all activities on  January 14, 2008.

All of us have thought about this time after time and discussed it. At this point, in order to put closure on LiN CLOVER, each of the members will move on to new paths.

We dare to fit hope and development into the word "suspend", and - until a miracle occurs - in order to create a miracle we intend to keep moving forward.

For everyone who supported us we truly say Thank You. We are filled with feelings of appreciation.  As with every live show up until now, we will put all of our power into the last two shows.

Please continue to support us."

Unique... haunting... unpredictable. Full of wonder. It gets better every single time I listen to it.
- J!-ENT

The band's weapon of choice is lush, dreamy songs, owing much to their own admitted influences from bands like Radiohead and the Jesus and Mary Chain.
"Misleading Shore" is hauntingly beautiful with a stark, echoing guitar line and a drum beat of a static filled TV changing the channel. "Risou Decibel" is a big, thumping wall of grungy sound, bolstered by space age sound effects and dual male/female vocals.
The album is chock full of fuzzed out instrumentation that buzzes and squeals out of your speakers. It's an excellent introduction to a great band.

Dark and off-centered. Simply, but wonderfully, constructed.
- Rock of Japan

A couple of listens and I was hooked.
Slumber is a compilation made up of tracks drawn from the band's first three releases. Opening track "Empty" sets the tone for a lot of the album - YuRi's vocals swooping over a backdrop of crashing drums and guitars that hint at Rival Schools battling it out with Siamese Dream-era Pumpkins. That's not to say LiN CLOVER are a one-trick pony. "It" starts out eerily quiet (perhaps as a nod to Stephen King's scary clown), before battering into a driving chorus that must sound outstanding live. "Misleading shore" starts in a similarly downbeat fashion but eschews the temptation of another crowd-pleasing chorus, instead staying in a lower gear and adding layers of guitar and feedback to create a slow-burning epic.
"Never" starts slowly, with Yuri singing wordlessly over the top of some genuinely freaky efffects that could have come straight from the soundtrack of "Ring," "Juon" or some other terrifying Japanese horror film. Even when the singing does become something recognisable as language, the backing never changes (if anything it becomes even more disconcerting) and the overall effect is a song that will do anything but make you sleep.
