How It Began
At age 10 1/2, Julian Sage entered a local talent show with his 16 year old cousin Lisa. While rehearsing for it in his bedroom, his mother was surprised to hear such a deep voice coming out of her little boy. Until that day his family had no idea that he had any interest in singing. After getting a case of the nerves, he backed out of going up to sing until he saw a younger boy perform and decided that he should get up the courage to try it out too. Everyone in the audience was amazed by what they heard. Their enthusiastic reaction encouraged him to want to perform out more, so he asked his mother to find other opportunities for him. He entered a six month talent competition and each month he asked his mom to give him "bigger" songs so he could stay in the contest. He lasted all six months, competing against seasoned older singers, and he came in as 2nd runner-up!
Within a few months of this contest he went on to audition for the Spirit Of Broadway, a professional black box theatre, where he competed with many boys who were trained in song and dance. With no acting or performance experiance Julian landed the top two child roles for boys that season! He played "JoJo" in "Seussical the Musical", and followed by playing "David", the young singing narrator of the musical "RAGS". Both shows ran for an allotted six weeks. Performing five shows a week in front of audiences gave Julian more confidence. This is were he discovered that he truely loved being an entertainer!
Shortly after turning 11 in 2006, Julian and his family visited Little Italy in NYC. Julian ended up stopping traffic at an Italian street festival when he was invited to do an impromptu' performance outside a restaurant. The applause was thunderous when he finished belting out "New York, New York." His first solo show was at Carbone's Restaurant where he entertained a crowd of 250 that were there for a Celebrity Golf fundraiser. Since then, there has been a whirlwind of invitations to perform at a variety of venues. He's entertained hundreds at restaurants, parties, shows, and local city fairs. He also has sung for audiences of thousands at the Hartford Civic Center 2006 Skate America International competitions, and earlier at the Healthnet Nutmeg Games opening ceremonies in Bridgeport. Two days after this performance, Jay Sloves, owner & promoter of Elkinson Sloves Advertising & Media Services said to Julian's mother "I heard that not only was Julian good at the event, I heard he WAS the event!
Here's what Claire Bessette of the New London Day wrote about one of Julian's Christmas performances: "Three songs that had nothing to do with Santa, decking the halls or red-nosed reindeer got the biggest applause Friday night at City Hall. Julian Sage Miyata, 11, wearing plain black pants and a shirt, took the steps at the annual Light Up City Hall celebration and announced his first song would be "My Way," by Frank Sinatra. The choice seemed to defy his diminutive frame and tender years, but his voice had the answer. The 300 people gathered around the City Hall plaza to celebrate the traditional start of the Christmas season stopped conversations and turned to the stage. Miyata added his own style to the Sinatra classic, pacing the steps and waving his arms to add emotion to the lyrics. At the end, the crowd roared its approval and then quickly fell silent as he launched into the opening verse of "America." He turned the microphone toward the crowd at chorus time and shouted "Everybody!" He finished with a twist on another Sinatra classic, turning "New York, New York" into "Norwich, Norwich" at the request of Quercia and his mother, Paulette, who recorded the performance. The audience roared again." Claire Bessette, New Londay Day, CT
Julian isn't affected by the buzz that he generates everywhere he performs. As soon as he steps off the stage he is back to just being a normal kid who likes to hang out with his friends, play video games, & rough-house with his new Sheltie puppy! He does say though that he feels very blessed to be able to sing for audiences, and believes that with God all things are possible!

After winning a Radio Disney talent contest this past summer, the prize was to open for the Jonas Brothers Disney concert tour. Julian chose to sing one of his favorite classic rock songs to kick off the event at the Hartford Civic Center Stadium. Sharing the stage with him was the classical/hiphop violinist brothers Nuttin But Stringz and the singing dance troup T-Squad!
(This was recorded on a camcorder below the stage where monitor sound was overriding the stadium speakers. Not the best sound quality but you can still hear Julian singing.)
