Current mood:  bouncy

We finished the f*cker on Monday (the 17th) and praise Jebus (or maybe Slash, he’s deity worthy) we’re happy to be done with it! It’s HUGE! Just buy it you cheap bastards! It took 19 days of recording spread over  a day more than 4 weeks.  3 guitar amps, 1 dead bass amp, 6 guitars, 2 basses, 2 snares, one vocal mic and a few bleeding eardrums later it’s going to bust into your home, blow your mind, drink your booze, kick your dog, blow up your video (ok DVD player) and probably sex your  auntie’s  on its way out.

A famous Nashville session muso once said that recording is 95% waiting around and 5% terror. It’s kinda like that but there are a few stopovers in between. The unavoidable cabin fever produces some quotable quotes though, so rather than waffle on with a blow by blow description of  boring details like who went to the toilet when, what they’re mood was, level of excremental success achieved and what manner of pant they had to pull down here’s a few choice Koritni studioisms that came about in the making of the yet to be named Koritni sequel. Enjoy:

  1. “Are you ready for your Cockmeat Sandwich”…this was a Dan Leffler regular while pushing pro tools buttons. I don’t know what movie he’s quoting but by the American hick voice and the content I’m guessing it’s a classy affair. It’s entertaining to hear but sho nuff I wouldn’t wanna  order me one o’ those  “cockmeat sandwiches”. I think this term was used more frequently on the days he didn’t manage to ride his bike before getting to the studio. For some reason there’s a link.
  2. Insert Indian accent here, “Oh my God, cricket”. Yep, during the 95% waiting we watched more than enough cricket. This was a Chris special.

  3. “Slut”! While at a glance there’s nothing special (or particularly polite) about this one, it was pulled out by many a band member watching female-hosted cooking shows also during the 95%. Looks bad in print but the sentiment was good. I personally have a bit of a thing for cooking show women and I know this penchant is shared by some of the other band members. So we can swear, but we can cook as well.

  4. “Stop tuning and start shredding”…a request from Anton aimed at the Prince who given the freedom to do so, will tune his Firebird 24/7.ps that’s not a euphemism for something more interesting, or body fluidy.

  5. “Well…you know…that’s kind of sh*t”. Invariably The Princes response when asked what he thinks of any take he’s done; regardless of the fact that it was perfect.

  6. “Casualty of War”…Antons description of guitar parts that he decided wouldn’t make the cut during pre-production. All POW’s were treated with the utmost humanity.

  7. “Monovowel”…Leffler’s nickname for Lex. Russian names aren’t exactly treasure troves of erm..vowels.

  8. Phoenetically this one goes something like “hucken oaf haant”…If like myself or Leffler you grew up in “Straya” Australia, you’ll have heard many a bloke use this poetic phrase applicable to almost any scenario. Replace the H’s with an F and a C if you’re confused.

  9. My personal favourite; Lex’s joke. It went something like this: A dude goes to prison and is shown to his cell. After the guard leaves, his new cellmate declares, “Alright we’re gonna play mummy’s and daddy’s, now which do you wanna be, mummy or daddy”? Choosing the safest option the newby replies “ahh, I’ll be the daddy”. Cell mate answers, “alright then, come and suck mummy’s dick”. Many thanks to the original author of this particular gem, whoever you are. It bought us all such joy.

That about wraps it up. We now have the traditional wait for mixing and mastering  and then you can have it….for some money of course J

Maybe next time I’ll write something nicer……or maybe not.

Rock on people. We’ll see you on tour, preferably at the bar!!!!!

KORITNI TO RELEASE FIRST LIVE CD/DVD 'RED LIVE JOINT' ON APRIL 22, 2008,
VIA BAD REPUTATION

Classic rockers from down under Koritni have set an April 22 release date for a two-disc DVD+CD set that compiles 3 hours of live performance, Red Live Joint, filmed and recorded during 3 different shows of the 'Lady Luck Tour 2007'. It features 15 tracks from the Lady Luck and Green Dollar Colour albums, one brand new song called Nobody's Home along with various covers from AC/DC, The Angels or Skid Row. The band also performed a special Guns N' Roses tribute show to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Appetite For Destruction, included in this set.

The shows were filmed by 10 cameras and the audio is presented in stereo & 5.1 surround sound. The artwork has been done by Mark Wilkinson (Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Marillion, The Darkness ...) and the release will be first available as a strictly limited digipack of 1800 units !

What this CD/DVD is intended to do is give a great memory of the last two years of touring with 60 shows across Europe & Australia, and it's also an opportunity for the band to thank their fans for their support...

After some holidays and other activities around the globe, the whole band has now reunited in Sydney to write, arrange and rehearse new tracks for the next album, to be released in 2009. Until then ... enjoy RED LIVE JOINT !

Current mood:  awake
Howdy rock fans - here is some news for you on what we have been up to for the past 5 months and, what you can expect from us in the coming months.

Since our last gig in the south of France in late October we, KORITNI, have been spread over thousands of Kms but still as close as ever- writing songs for our next album and planning 2008. Our French counter-part and guitarist extraodinare Eddy Santacreu is now back in the land down under, after a long and cold Parisian winter, and KORITNI is stronger than ever before.

During this time apart our badass management team has been working feverishly to prepare our 'soon to be released' live cd/dvd pack that we recorded from the last European tour. "Red Live Joint" is a compilation of three gigs - two days at 'Raismesfest' and our (just outside of) Paris gig at Savigny-le-Temple. This mega-pack is available from April 11 but you can preorder now (from koritni.com) and get some collector freebies!!!

This cd/dvd pack is a 'Thank you' to all our friends and fans that have supported us, both home and overseas, over the past two years. It is a representation of the band and our on-stage persona. We live for playing live and rocking out for you guys on stage so, to hold you guys over till our next album is released, check out "Red Live Joint".

"So", i hear you asking, "when is KORITNI playing again?"....Well , you are in luck. We are playing special showcase Friday 9th May at Candy's Apartment, Kings Cross. This will be our first gig in over 5 months!!! and judging by our last rehearsal it is gonna be a huge night. So get your plane tickets, train tickets or whatever you need to get and come and party with us at Candy's.

This year we are going to be concentrating on our home (away from our home on the road - Paris) Australia. With three Euro tours under our belt over the last two years we are set to give some rock back to the country that spawned us....and now nurtures Eddy too. Over the next year we will be playing hard and fast all around the country, so keep an eye on our web pages to get news of where we will be. As an extra incentive (as if you need on) we will be road-testing our new songs for the next album at these gigs so you can get a sneak peak at the new album live on stage!!!!

So, a big thank you to every one of our European fans for being so awesome over the past two years and for giving us a reason to feel great about getting up on stage despite our ludicrous hang-overs...

We will be back in Europe for another monster tour next year to promote our new album.....so keep a look out. KORITNI will be in there when the sun starts shining and the snow has melted.

But for now......a bientot

I thought, since we have added this new track to our playlist, that i should write a little something to introduce you all to this track and how it came to be part of the Koritni world...

When "LADY LUCK" first hit the stores across Europe our manager (Sam "the devil" Prevot) organised some sweet press for us. One magazine that showed enough interest in us to put a song ('under the overpass') on a cover-mount cd was UK rock mag 'Classic Rock'. We got a great response from this exposure and wer absolutely chuffed that we got that opportunity.

Just as a side note: Classic rock also said that we were one of '2007's top ten bands to look out for' in their January 2007 edition!

So, when they asked us to contribute a cover of a Hollywood movie theme song for an upcomming issue, we were more than happy to oblige.

There were many ideas thrown around, mainly rock songs that you would expect a rock band such as us to do....'big guns' - ACDC, 'you could be mine' - Guns'n'Roses etc, but the general vibe of the band was that if we took such a route and covered these amazing songs they would end up sounding the same...but...not as good as the original.

Things were looking shaky when our badass singer Lex got the idea to cover something so random, so strange that it would blow everyone away. His idea - 'i had the time of my life' the theme song from the Patrick Swayze hit "Dirty Dancing".

Lex, the badass, arranged an awesome version that was so distant from the original only by the lyrics/melody could you tell in was the same song. We got together fine-tuned it, hit the recording studio and nailed that sucker. It was a great experience for me to record that song and be a part of something so cool and goofy at the same time.

The response we got from the mag was all positive. Even though they were suprised (and a little disturbed) by our pick they still appreciated a cool arrangement and a quircky idea pulled off by some awesome musicians(if i do say so myself about my band mates).

This cover-mount cd also provided a huge part of our UK audience. Having not been there before we weren't expecting many people to know us but we had heaps of people chatting to us at our gigs about our "time of my life" cover. So in short...thank you 'Classic Rock'.

Now it is time for you, our less fortunate audiences (only because you haven't heard the song before) to get a listen to our version of this incredibly cheesy song.

Let us know how good you think it is on a scale of 1 - 10. 1 being awesome and 10 being amazingly awwesome...

cheers

Koritni tour news 3

Greetings rock pigs from around the globe and welcome to the third installment of news from every body's favourite touring band: KORITNI.

Our first show on this run took us to a new frontier for Koritni to conquer with our no foolin' brand of Aussie rock: Switzerland. Uster to be precise in a rockin' venue known as 'Rock City'. Here we were sharing the stage with the awesome band 'Lost Purity' who were a fantastic straight ahead rock band from Wintertour. The noise restrictions (95 db!!!!!) did not stop us from bringing out our best for the smaller than average crowd that turned up. And for a small crowd they really showed their appreciation and lung capacities and we could not have been happier with their response.

After signing and meeting and greeting we headed off to the house of our new friend, and proprietor of 'Rock City'; Hagaar. His house was amazing and his hospitality stretched from his awesome basement bar to his record room which must have contained at least 1000 vinyls and countless cd's!

Next it was back to the EU and a friendly French  town of Lyon where we played with hard rockers 'Revenge' to a fantastic crowd of old and new fans. Having played in the south of France a couple of times before we have built a petite but devoted fan base that showed up from all over the area to support us. A huge thanks to those who travelled all those miles to show the Koritni crowd some love.

This was another great set with all our energy packed into a small stage. We all played our buns off for this gig as we were so inspired by the crowd of supporters. Post gig shenanigans were abundant at this show as the signing begun with posters and ended with body parts! Now, I know what you are thinking, there were no naughty signings...in fact it was us who got autographed!!!!! Yes, our fans were signing us....on our arms. This was all fun and games at the time until we realised it was permanent ink and that we were filming the next nights gig.....ahh the extent we will go to please our fans.

PARIS!!!!!! was show 3 out of 4 for this run and, I have to say, it went off like a wheel of France's stinkiest cheese....(that is a good thing). This was an important gig for the crew as we were recording it for future use and i don't think that it could have gone any better. Our venue was L'Emprente which is just south of Paris and equipped with an awesome stage and sound set up and a band room that would make Axle lift an eyebrow....I mean it was big...

Our fellow rockers this night was the Canadian outfit 'Crystal Pistol' who warmed up the crowd for us with their own sleazy brand of R'n'R from across the pond. We will see them again when we head to Italy on our next run of shows.

The show went off without a hitch and it was a great pleasure of us to play our home away from home...Paris. Cheers to everyone who came to the gig and helped out with the technical side of things....all our camera people, sound people, stage people and ....well everyone.

As the luggage under our eyes was at its peak we headed north for our fourth and final gig of this run at La Ferrailleur in Nantes. Enclosed in a King St Wharf like spread of restaurants, bars and clubs this venue was big, loud and smokey....The perfect rock club for a band like us....except the smoke sucks when you are singing. Supported by some good friends of ours 'Shooter' and 'Wild West' we shook that joint like it was going out of style. The crowd was unlike anything we, as a band, have ever encountered. People jumping on and off the stage and crowd surfing, picking up fold backs and going crazy...it is fair to say that they liked our music, I think.

Apart from Murphy's Law attacking my pedals and amp on three different occasions during the gig causing me to run around the stage like a chicken with it's head cut off trying to regain my signal, it was a great gig. These things happen, though, and you gotta keep rollin' with the punches to give that crowd what they paid for.

So we are now left with some chillin time before we head to the land of pasta and pasta sauce....Italy.

Keep your eyes glued to our myspace, website and Youtube for updated news and video posts.

ciao for now

Koritni tour news 2

Howdy rockateers, the huntsman here to fill you in on some more news from the road...

After a brief break from our grueling tour schedule we set out on the road again for a couple of shows in our beloved 2nd home of France.

Fortunately Lex and I had heeled up and were ready to rock again and the similar illness that had gripped Chris was certainly not getting the better of him. We set off to the incredibly amusing (if only to us...being the most mature band in the world) town of.....Brest!!! Which is located on the East coast of France. Even though the university town was still on holiday the crowd and punters were our type of people....rockers that love it loud and hard!!! It was especially cool to see one of our die-hard fans singing every word to our songs standing right up the front and taking us by quite a surprise....clearly he has the cd!!!

Side note to all other Koritni fans: if you really want to get our attention then learn all the words to our songs, stand up the front and SING....

The local bands we shared the stage with that night were really cool and we thank them for warming up the crowd for us.

Lex was truly back in form for this gig and it was a pleasure to have our chainsaw back on stage with us going harder than ever before.

After a night off (and two days of driving) we arrived at our second gig; the Bol D'or motorcycle race in Nevers. This event usually attracts 100 000 people and brings half of that to the rock arena for the concerts. We were accompanied by our mates, from the same pond, but not the same island ( New Zealand), The Datsuns. Sure it was our first time meeting them but we knew we would all be on the same track....so to speak.

The crowd starting forming even before we took the stage and, once we were there, were flowing in like water down a drain. Who knows how many thousand people were staring back at us but we kicked our asses around that stage for the whole hour we had and, hopefully, left them screaming for more....not just screaming. Next was The Datsuns who were amazing to see, considering that they are from our neck of the woods and are doing so well for themselves in Europe, and really lovely guys, too.

This gig was another the fourth or fifth huge Euro event that we have played and we loved it... Thanks to the booker that decided to take us on and let us play to all those crazy petrol-heads and have such a great time doing it.

Much love my fellow lovers of.....well...us.

take care and stay tuned.

your man in the field.....Huntski.

Well boy howdy there Koritni fans...Have we got some news for you about the koritni experience in our last days of our Euro tour of 2007!!!

When you connect professional video equipment, with a 65 Ford Mustang and the Koritni boys what do yo get?????

A bad ass video clip ready to take the world by storm....

Time has finally come to put a video clip to one of our songs from the new album 'Lady Luck'.

With the help of  Regis Raffin (film-maker and director) and Eddie Briere (assistant director and photographer), over the last few days we have been shooting the initial shots for our new video clip for our single ''Heaven Again''. The first edits we have seen look fantastic and the work has been happening at a frantic pace....leading up to our last gig....tomorrow (Saturday) at the Le Mans 24 hour motor cycle race. This will be the first (and last one of the tour) gig we have done in more than two weeks and will be the grand finale of the video; leaving us with the best fare-well present we could ask for.....a huge recorded live performance to be secured in our clip forever.

As for yesterday...if you were wondering about the vintage convertable full of rock stars cruising around the Paris streets....then wonder no more. We were lucky enough to have this beautiful car with which to rock around the streets to get some great shots. Big ups to Lex for having the scones to drive around the streets of Paris in this vintage machine on the wrong side of the road and for the owner of this awesome car for letting us use it for the clip.

I have to say that rocking out in a '65 Mustang, being nothing but the coolest of cool, was one of the best of experiences I have ever had my whole life, let alone this whole tour. I think fewer experiences will ever rival cruising with my band mates along the 'perifery' of Paris having with our film-maker; Regis, and Eddie (photographer) riding alongside in their Mercedes CLK 400 convertable filming us singing the chorus to 'Heaven Again' over and over again......

Putting the final touches on this clip will be a total blast for us the film-makers.

We have had a complete blast making this clip and cannot thank Regis, Eddie and, our indispensable make-up girl ; Morganne, enough and especially our Publisher; Eric Coubard who's generosity made this whole thing possible.

A huge thank you from the boys of Koritni

MERCI
