Current mood:  aroused
Well its been a long busy, crazy summer.... the boys have been busy writing new tunes and working them into a revamped set that includes new transitions and varied versions of older songs.

Loudlove would love to thank all those that made some of the summer shows as fun to play as it could have been. Laura, Ethel and everyone associated with HOPE Beach Summerfest, Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest, The grand opening of Harry Potter at The Coliseum in Orleans with the Starlight Foundation and all the shows in and around Ontario. People like Paul Symes, Mark M, AJ, Hans-Peter, Wiggy, Britta Gerwin and all the volunteers that came out to help us feel like giant rockstars. There are names I have forgotten people who should be thanked but its hard to remember them all. If I forgot to mention your name please know that we think of you all often and appreciate what you do.

We have some great news for the rest of the summer and a giant leap in the media area to talk about when the time is right. Just as a quick look into the future if you live in the Ottawa and surrounding area you will not be able to escape our sound. On one form of media or another you will see and hear us.

Into the month of August we will be rockin out again at Labreton flats with Shaggy at the Ottawa Reggae festival. This will be on Sunday the 23rd and will be surely a kick ass time. Farther down the line we will be expanding into the US for some shows just south of the border in places like NY and Vermont. The fan base is ever growing and more and more people are tuning into the facebook and myspace pages to get their fill of Loudlove on a daily basis. Don't be afraid to request us on your favorite radio station, Live 88.5, Virgin Radio 106.9, KROCK 105.7 in Kingston  all these guys are big supporters of the guys and the music. They love hearing from you and the more of you that call the better chance we will have of getting that tune on your radio.

Stick around well be in touch, more and more shows are always being added on the myspace and facebook pages so check it out when you have time,

We love you all,
~Loudlove

Well I woke up at 3 am today, Thursday and I was sleeping beside Pete in Dans parents trailer in Austin, Texas. Pete is huge. I'm pushed up against the wall back to it like you might sleep when in jail. Pete has hands and it seems like it may have been sometime since he has been with a woman.

Dan's parents were kind enough to offer us shelter and blankets but their failure to realize the snoring phenomenon that occurs when you have Dan and Hans in the same room will cause me to be awake for some time. Around 4 I take matters into my own hand and am reminded of the time I wanted to smother Dan in Thunder Bay with a pillow. I found myself that night standing over Dan inches away from his face with the pillow, 1000's of km from home, everyone else asleep. Then the faint whisper of Emilie saying "Do it.... Kill him" instead like this morning, I slap him in the face with my bare hand. He stops snoring. Pete has now entrenched himself in the bed we once shared .... so I grab a blanket and sleep on the floor. How sweet it is.

Around 8 or so everyone is awake. The brood heads off to the office/restaurant for breakfast. This place is fantastic. All you can eat pancakes, coffee, water for $1. That's right. $1 for breakfast. I would be eating there 5 times in 6 days. Not to mention the boxes of Krispy Kremes that come with breakfast. Slowly my insides are dying.

Today is the Newcap Radio showcase arranged by Live 88.5. Live has secured, The Velveeta Room, the VR is a comedy club down in the heart of 6th street. Smack dab in the middle of music and mayhem. Loudlove, St. Joe's Mission and Sojourn are on the bill. Three very diverse bands but musicians none the less. Bryan Ruckstuhl is down with Live to help out with sound and make sure the show runs without any BS. Bryan is really good at when he does. Its nearing high noon, set to open for noon and start the music around 12.15 the bands are inside with the crew from Live mulling about with the sound man hired to do the show, he is also really good at what he does. Now comes the great part, I am not sure if it was planned or spontaneous but Live 88.5 decides to have an open bar. From Noon until 3.30 it will be open bar. Not just free shit beer like most of the other venues this will be open bar with no cover. How about seeing Loudlove, St. JM or Sojourn for free with an open bar. Timmy P eat your heart out.

So like all super rockstars we start drinking at Noon and why wouldn't we it free for god's sake. If you were to stand on a street corner in any of Canada's cities,
large or small, you would be trampled by people should you start yelling free beer from out front of any establishment. In Texas apparently everyone has free beer all the time. So we have DJ Noah, who may be clinically insane, standing out front with a sign that reads " Free Booze, No Cover, CANADA". The first few people that arrive just prior to the music are .... shall we say.... have been down on their
luck for some time. A the unemployable begin to arrive and snatch up the free pints so do music lovers. By the time Loudlove leaves the stage around 1240 the bar is arm in arm. I am hustled outside by a guy from Austin who needs to know who the band is. He gives me some money and tells me to tell the guys - "This is for gas,
thanks for coming to Austin, I love it." We just got paid to play in Austin.

The bar stays full for most of the afternoon as the beer is flowing and the fans are coming and going. The unemployables are still here but they seem to be enjoying the music as much as the others, plus the fucking beer is free.

All three bands play 2 x 25 minute sets. People are blown away by the showcase. Many can be herd asking when the bands will be playing again, where can I see them again, where do I get the music. By my standards the show is a huge success thanks to Newcap Radio, Live 88.5, SxSw and Highbeam Promotions,  the bands and everyone that stayed even when they were done drinking. We were offered a show at Iowa State University which seemed very doable until I was told it was 927 miles north and on Sunday. Its the thought that counts here kids.

So now its 4 O'clock and its all over, three loudlove sets in Austin, Texas. Loudlove is now international. Photos from the event can now be seen on the Loudlove facebook Fan page located here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Loudlove/23867769552?ref=ts

Come back to read about Bedouin Soundclash playing in the living room, meeting Tele the band from Winnipeg we met in Liverpool, N.S., The cabin we rented
and the beers we drank. Not to mention the delayed/canceled flights and Danny being pulled aside at customs. Oh what fun it is to ride on the Loudlove train this time.

Stepping off the plane into San Antonio I could already feel the sun that would welcome Loudlove to Texas and the 2009 edition of the SxSw and Red Gorilla Festival. Arriving a few days before our showcases we made our way from San Antonio to Austin via the Bert and SuebExpress. Our rental car plans had been mixed up due to a site I went to instead of dealing with Avis directly. We arrived to no car and no place to stay, only 3000 km from home... so what else is new?

Dan's parents literally saved our asses. Since we had left all our gear in Ottawa to avoid certain costs and to make travel easier, Dan and I were easy to accommodated.

Traveling north from San Antonio to Austin took about an hour. With Hans coming in on Thursday at 2 pm in San Antonio and Peter into Austin around 430 pm there was some things to get done before they arrived. Passes to pick up, gear to find, accommodations to secure, people and venues to locate, oh and get a car to do all the above.

This is an extremely long story that I will shorten so to not bore you with details. Lets just say there was never a dull moment and stress levels rose and fell as the challenges that would be presented were crushed with Canadian know-how and kinship.

To avoid complications we left our cd's home and made arrangements to pick up some download cards at the RGF. Arriving to gather our passes for our show the download cards were delayed. This would become a common occurrence. Now we had no gear, no car, no accommodations, nothing to hand out to our new fans. So smooth.... smooth Loudlove style anyways.

After picking up Hans in SA, drive courtesy of Bert and Sue, we rented our car and awaited Peter in Austin. With a showcase at 6pm at Nina's Lounge we were still looking for gear at 530. Standing on the corner of 6th and Neches who should arrive but Trevor Finlay and Josee. Trevor, an Ottawa musician, had recently became a resident of Nashville, TN. Taking his song writing and guitar to the south in search of all his dreams. We needed a bass, guitar and breakables for Dan. Not one band was willing to help out their musical brothers from the North. With time fleeting and no prospects in sight the faint sound of French  was overheard outside a club across the street. Hans as smooth as ever approached and sure enough a band from Montreal named Jo Hell,  www.myspace.com/johellband  , originally from Montreal would come to our rescue. Without a moments thought, Jo Hell, agreed to lend us their gear.

Being Canadian had saved our ass. We would travel 3000 km to be helped by our native friends of Montreal. Many thanks to all the guys in Jo Hell. At five minutes to 6, patch cords and gear in hand Loudlove took the stage at Nina's in Austin, Texas and we played our first international show of the bands 8 year career.

I would to personally thank the girl from New Mexico for sharing here love of Loudlove before they had even struck a cord. The bartender for her dancing on the bar and the sound man for his literal comment of "... Hey these guys are actually good." But it was the shock on his face that spoke volumes.

With he support of fellow Canadians Trevor Finlay, Josee, Lee, Bryan, Dan and Mark in attendance Loudlove closed out the short set with a new tune called Island. A certain calmness fell over me. Stress now gone a smile of contentment grew as the last note rung out. A feeling of pride came over me. My friends had just played Austin, Texas.

One down and two to go. All we needed now was accommodations, food and
time. The time to see what else Austin had to offer. There was music crawling in from every direction. Glaring down on us thru the 86 degree sun we returned the gear with thanks the Jo Hell  and wandered thru the crowd that would swell to 1000's as the day wore on.

As the sun set that night in Austin we retreated to the KOA about 15 minutes out of the downtown of Austin. Bert and Sue had come thru again and offered to put the 4 of us up for the night. Sharing a bed with Peter is never easy, especially when its a no bigger than Peter himself.  Let..s just say my thoughts were 3000 miles away in the warm and loving arms of my wife.

To be continued.

and the results of the online poll for all categories

and here is the article that followed few weeks later.

Ottawa's Loudlove received a huge number of votes in the XP Best of '08 music categories. Seems like we're lucky to still have them around too. This hard-working band has been touring heavily and was extremely lucky to walk away from a major car crash in Kingston this summer. Their sound, as hard as it is to pin down, shows elements of rock, blues, reggae and improvisational jam. One thing is certain, Loudlove's cocktail will pack a dance floor, even driving the odd wallflower or barstool prophet to swing low. Get out to Zaphod's tonight for a little Loudloving. Doors @ 8 p.m.

Sunday Dec 14th at Bassline Station in Nepean, Loudlove will be playing with Ottawa's next infectious band SNDY all for the benefit of Children in our community that need snowsuits for the up and coming winter months.

There is no cover for the show.

If you can donate even a few dollars to help out the kids it would mean the world to alot of people. We know in todays day and age that money is tight especially during the holiday season. We appreciate any donation to the cause be it clothing or dollar figure.

Every $35 dollars gets a kid warm.... we would love to see you out before the holidays as this will be Loudlove's final show in the area for a few until the end of January.

This is a kid friendly show. Bring anyone you can. Bands are aware of infants, children and  pre-teens it will be a g rated show.

In the latest and greatest in Ottawa according to readers of the Ottawa Xpress... loudlove is one of the best bands in Ottawa. Although we did not win the voting poll... Loudlove was not even on the list. You had to choose other and type in the band name.

Thanks to all who voted and got us that special mention. Kinda like that participation patch you got in elementary school for the fit test. We like patches and we like you.

See yah soon Friday Dec. 12th at Zaphod's in the market w/ Chris Colepaugh and the Cosmic Crew.

"Men Rocking For Women" Concert Announces Final Line-up

In
addition to the recently announced line-up of Glass Tiger's Alan Frew
and Ottawa's Heroes Offer Her, two more acts have been added to the
"Men Rocking For Women" benefit concert November 29 at Barrymore's.
The
concert's co-organizer, 'A' News Weather Specialist Bill Welychka is
pleased to add big-buzz Ottawa bands Loudlove and Sojourn.

The
concert coincides with the U.N. International Day for the Elimination
of Violence Against Women and Canada's National Day of Remembrance and
Action on Violence Against Women.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit numerous Ottawa-area women's shelters and the White Ribbon Campaign.

Welychka
states "When I lived in Toronto I was very active with the White Ribbon
Campaign for many years. The WRC is a global effort of men joining
together to end men's violence against women. When I moved to Ottawa
over two years ago, I recognized the need to bring the Campaign here.
It is vital to create awareness and dialogue that any violence against
women is wrong. It's also vital to recognize the need to assist
under-funded and over-crowded women's shelters. These shelters are full
of women and their children looking to escape from an abusive
relationship. Raising funds for as many shelters as possible is
paramount!"

Welychka is utilizing his musical past as
MuchMusic's and MuchMoreMusic's longest-running VJ to bring interest to
the need in ending men's violence against women. "Ottawa is such a
great community full of many fundraising initiatives for a countless
number of charities. But the need to end violence against women has
never been dealt with on a large on-going scale. I'm not a concert
promoter, but I realized many years ago that a concert brings people
together. Music inspires. Music makes you feel good. A positive energy
is created. And, a lot of money can be raised."

In addition to
the concert, Welychka has announced a Silent-Auction with many high-end
items available for bidding during the evening. "I'm in awe of the
amount of interest in this concert. Auction items have been donated by
the Ottawa Senators, Le Suites Hotel, ARC The Hotel andTheChateau
Laurier! In addition to the hotel packages, there are electronics,
assorted gift baskets and many other cool items."

Welychka will act as the evening's emcee and will be joined onstage by numerous media personalities.
"The
bands have donated their time to entertain. Many businesses have
donated items for the auction. My media friends are coming out to show
support. The missing key ingredient is a large audience! Please come
out...your attendance speaks volumes in ending men's violence against
women."
