Just finished some organ and vocal overdubs this past weekend. Now the new CD is off to Valencia Spain with our guitar player, Alberto Tarin, for mixing and then it goes to Bilbao for mastering! Be on the lookout for a look at the artwork in the near future and possibly a "sneak peak" listen to a new track! We'll post the track listing soon as well. Look for a May/June release worldwide.

So the recording sessions this week resulted in some great tracks! Alberto flew in from Valencia, Spain on Monday. Rehearsals on Tuesday and Wednesday were great. Tunes written by Alberto, Freddie, Earl and myself along with several covers were fine tuned and prepped for the studio (Hard Luck Studios in Brooklyn, NY). Val Douglas and Kevin Batchelor from the Skatalites joined us for half of the recording. The bass grooves were deep on the entire session with Val schooling us all on deep Jamaican roots bass and meticulous attention to his sound honed by decades spent in recording studios and stages around the world on Thursday and current Dub Is A Weapon bassist (and NYSJE member when we're lucky enough to have him!) Big Dan Jesselson rockin' the elecric upright with his muscular bass bounce on Friday. The addition of Kevin's trumpet on several tracks was such a great treat. Such amazingly good vibes from him both on the microphone and just hanging out. Yao sounded as strong as ever, keeping the groove moving along with authority and Earl and Albeto's piano and guitar actually became one sound! Freddie, as usual, played some ridiculously good solos and rocked the flute on several tunes as well. Engineer Michael Caiati, who has done several of the last NYSJE cds, was doing his thing and capturing it all.

In two 11 hour days we tracked most of the album. Most of the songs were tracked live with minimal overdubs (if any!) Just have a few vocal tracks to finish and some horn things to add (Kevin had to leave for a show with the Skatalites so we need to put his trumpet on a tune from the second recording day) We hope to finish all of that up in Feb and get to the job of mixing and mastering. Look for more updates and a release date to be set after we get back from our December Euro tour!
