Dead Bells Anthology - Edited by Jodi Lee - to be Published by Library of Horror Press

New Years Eve, 2009.

The music is loud, the girls are pretty, the guys are hot and the booze is flowing freely. The party is in full swing; no one expects anything to go horribly, terribly, apocalyptically wrong.

Not tonight. Not ten years after the original 'Y2K' scare.

Who knew the calendars were wrong?

When the bells have struck midnight and the party is over, it all ends.

Every story in the Dead Bells anthology will have one protagonist who wakes up the morning of January 1st, 2010 to find everyone dead. Just – dead. Animals and plant life survive. The bodies don't rot, but just dry up, mummify, if you will.

No explanation will be given, although each writer is free to speculate as to how this may have happened.

Within days, there will be no running water, no electricity, no phones, no internet. The protag will be completely, utterly alone.

Or is s/he?

Please Note: There are clarifications on the main website.

Common sense is a must in writing these stories - people will have been working the night shift, some may have insomnia, some may be partying right on through the night and day. Characters won't magically die at midnight, and they won't all fall asleep at the same time.

I prefer to see stories that have followed the theme, obviously, but I may accept a story I feel has merit and if the author is willing to work on re-writes. Short listing is not necessarily an acceptance, it's holding for further consideration.

I have resigned from LBF Books. I want to thank my gran for teaching me “honey method.” It works. I feel better.

To clarify for any authors or staff that visit here, after reading the owner’s post:

1) I was fired in April, with the excuse she needed to ‘lighten’ her work load compiling royalties, but she wished me to stay on as an editor. I spoke to her, and she reinstated me after I offered to work without the EiC stipend of 5% royalty above editorial royalty. I worried for the authors and the company at the time. Of course, the reason for the firing has now changed, according to an email received this morning.

2) For many reasons, of which I have discussed with Louise and the owner many times over the past eight months, I felt uncomfortable at LBF Books. I filed my resignation with her on June 16th, to which she replied on June 17th, asking me to stay until the end of August and agreeing to the buyout of my contracts. Pretty much immediately, she removed access to the administrative email account. She claims now she told me she was going to do it, but she didn’t, and I have saved all pertinent emails regarding my resignation (amongst others). I simply asked what was going on, said if she wanted me to continue, I needed access to the email address, and told her if she’d changed her mind, I’d need to re-evaluate my buy out to remove the outstanding projects. This would be to her benefit financially, but…

3) I received an email this morning that was… hard to understand for the most part, and talked of things I didn’t even say or know about. She claimed I gave her an ultimatum. She then ‘fired’ me again, stating some things that…well… I don’t get.

You can’t fire someone that’s resigned. But, whatever. I don’t care anymore. I do care about the remaining authors, some of whom I’ve made friends with. I do hope we can continue on as such, I’ve tried my best being honest with all of you. Unfortunately, sometimes I wasn’t, but I swear to you all, it was unknowingly. I also want to reiterate to those authors who were unhappy and became angry with me, please… understand I was doing my job, as best as I knew how, given what knowledge I had of the company. Please…feel free to get in touch with me anytime.

I am happy in my departure, although unhappy in the way the management handled it after their initial reaction. Things will work out.

I am overjoyed in the direction everything is going now, and… well, there may or may not be a new announcement soon. I’ve been encouraged to go in another direction, a turn around. A return to my own standards. Perhaps I shall. :)

Yeah, so here I am, trying again. If this one doesn't go through, I'm giving up and Myspace can jam its new interface where no one will ever find it again.

I have a real gross follow-up to that, but I'm going to bypass it. ;)

I think I'll be doing most of my blogging away from myspace now. I'll come in and post links here (if they'll post) and ya'll can pop over to one of the other blogs.

There's just a few things I wanted to update people on:

1) The slush has been slushed for TNBP #2, and while I didn't get the emails done last night, I'm finishing those off as soon as I'm outta here. We re-open for submissions on July 1st. I won't be here, but I'll get 'em when I get back.

B) New Bedlam has a forum, where all good little monkeys come to play. This is where we corrupt the monkeys into chain-smoking pick-pockets. Feeling left out? Come join us. Or at least, come join long enough to vote in the research polls. ;)

Lastly) If you haven't heard of Library of the Living Dead/Library of Horror Press, get the cotton out of your ears and the blinders from your eyes. Doc not only accepted four of my stories for various anthologies from both imprints, but he also hired me to do covers for four books being released via both imprints.

There's some damn fine, cool folks over there.
