OLDE YORK - EMPIRE STATE

The true hardcore sound is back on the map with Olde York, four guys hailing from the hardcore's ground zero: New York City! POLO CLUB - THE 13

Genre smashing Melbourne duo, Polo Club, deliver on their quick ascent as Australia's most inventive production act with the release of debut album, The 13. Urban Monk and Camelot The Cameleon have crafted a slamming slab of undefinable pop on this collection that recent MTV Kickstart Competition, Triple-J Unearthed and Good Vibrations Festival-sanctioned performances hinted at, but only imagined in terms of idiosyncratic beat arrangement, deft lyricism and world-class bounce.

SYN AND 3RRR ALBUM OF THE WEEK!!

The debut album The 13 is out now through AmpHead Music / The Orchard.

ENOLA'S SECRET - ONLY WE CAN SAVE US

SWITCHBLADE - INVICTUS INFINITUM

Switchblade are no strangers to the Australian metal scene. This fiercely independent band have built a solid national reputation on hard work and determination. In 2009 Switchblade are set to unleash one of the most accomplished metal albums Australia has ever seen with Invictus Infinitum.

Enlisting the internationally acclaimed production services of Grammy award winning producer Neil Kernon (Nevermore, Jeff Loomis, Nile, Cannibal Corpse) and mastering engineer Alan Douches (Dillinger Escape Plan, God Forbid, Hatebreed) Switchblade have ensured that they will no longer be shackled to the remote confines of the Australian metal scene, but viewed as a competitive rising force in metal worldwide.

NINE HIGH - NINE HIGH

Snatching the name from their local underage alcohol vendor, Nine High are made up of three UK MC's - Fraksha, Scotty Hinds & Felony. From back alley rapping to releasing critically acclaimed mix tapes (First Take & Take 2), Nine High represent the UK to the fullest - with an Australian twist..

With both Fraksha & Scotty Hinds now living permanently in Australia (since 2007) and Felony residing in the UK, Nine High have already made a massive impact on the Australian scene.

Touring alongside Bliss N Eso & Phrase, collaborating with Australian artists such as Reason, M-Phazes, Mantra, Autism & Ciecmate, Nine High have been etching their name into the halls of Aussie Hip-Hop.Production on the album comes courtesy of M-Phazes (Royce Da 5’9”, CL Smooth, Heltah Skeltah), Ghost Town (Jehst, Foreign Beggars), Jase (Pegz, Phrase), Drif (Mikey T, Lumes) & Lewis One.

NAZARITE VOW - CONSPIRATORS

Nazarite Vow knows their stuff. Time and hard work has labeled them stalwarts of an Adelaide music scene thriving with quality. A scene that gave birth to bands like I Killed the Prom Queen and Day of Contempt/Dear and Departed is not an easy one to take hold of but with their latest outing; Conspirators, it’s not hard to see why Nazarite Vow are becoming an unstoppable force. Nazarite Vow have supported bands such as The Devil Wears Prada, Escape The Fate, Strung Out, MxPx, and Project 86.The band is about to begin a 6 week co-headlining tour with House Vs. Hurricane in June (Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane & regional areas).

THE VAMPIRATES - CAST ASIDE

The Vampirates have come a long way since their inception in mid 2008. In the space of 12 months the band has landed support spots for big name acts such as Bury Your Dead (USA) and Deez Nuts, as well as writing, recording and releasing their debut EP; Cast Aside.

Recorded and mixed by Kevin Call (ex-bassist of Comeback Kid) and mastered by Darren Thompson (The Amity Affliction, The Hot Lies, In Fiction) Cast Aside thrives with a raw, inspired energy from start to finish.

SPOONBILL - ZOOMORPHIC

Zoomorphic is the third album by electronic musician Spoonbill (aka Jim Moynihan), following the critically acclaimed Megafauna (2005) and Nestegg (2007). This time around, Spoonbill's anarchic, quirk-funk, glitched-up aesthetic has been forensically finessed like never before, sculpted to a well-bodied medley of groove-based sound art.

"A densely twisted union of vicious funk and off-kilter samples, Spoonbill's Zoomorphic is a re-assuring release that confirms that Australian artists have as much talent for innovation as their international competitors." - Album of the week, Inpress magazine

BRIAN HENRY HOOPER - THE THING ABOUT WOMEN

Hot off the tail of touring nationally with Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds for their new album, Dig!LazarusDig!, Brian Henry Hooper (Kim Salmon and the Surrealists, Beasts of Bourbon) is releasing his second solo album, The Thing About Women, which features Dan Luscombe (The Drones/Paul Kelly), Spencer P Jones (Beasts of Bourbon) and Mick Harvey (ex-Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds), who also produced the album.

BEATEN BY THEM - SIGNS OF LIFE

Beaten by Them hail from San Francisco, California, although two of five members now reside in Melbourne, Australia. Since playing their first show in San Francisco in late 2005 the band have released one EP and one full-length album and toured widely across the United States. Truly independent, the band releases all material through Logicpole, the label run by Melbourne-based guitarists Andrew Harris and Max McCormick.

Musically, Beaten by Them wanders bleak landscapes of the kind cleared by Godspeed You! Black Emperor and A Silver Mt Zion. Recorded at San Francisco's Tiny Telephone Studio by Aaron Prellwitz (Neil Young, Sun Kil Moon):

BLUNTED MONK - OPERATION DREAMSCAPE

Melbourne Hip Hop label Pang Productions brings us the second installment in the epic trilogy from the I.N.F. brotherhood (Urban Monk, Blunted Monk & Full Spectrum).  Produced by Urban Monk, Blunted Monk’s Operation Dreamscape comes as the long awaited follow up to Urban’s acclaimed debut, Gunpowder Footstep.  Questioning everything and forever redefining their sound, Operation Dreamscape is a testament to the I.N.F.’s constant evolution and relentless work ethic.

Also featuring guest appearances from Mata & Must, Polo Club,
J. Waters and Full Spectrum, this is sure to leave heads frothing for the third installment in the trilogy from the I.N.F brothers.

MATA & MUST - PARADOX OF MINDS

In 2003 Mata & Must released their first EP on their own imprint established out of necessity.  Six years on with an ever growing fan base, Melbourne label Pang Productions are celebrating their tenth release with Mata & Must’s long awaited debut full length album Paradox Of Minds. Leading up to the release of their 12” in 2008, the duo built their solid reputation based on a strong presence on live mics, features and production credits on a string of releases, and street level word of mouth.

Lovingly crafted almost entirely from vinyl, this is an album that pays attention to detail.  Get ready for harpsichords, violins, harps, rim shots, dialogue from obscure records and bass that goes boom.

SÉANCE - AWAKENING OF THE GODS

Hailed as one of Sweden’s biggest exports and yet remarkably underrated bands of all time, technical Death Metal masters Seance’s legacy is restored with a perfectly fitting album Awakening Of The Gods. Never abandoning their technicality-infused style and now peppered with a mammoth dose of thrash elements, this is undoubtedly an album that will remain as another classic album in many years to come. A lesson in sonical violence indeed!

“8/10” – Metal Hammer

THE RONSON HANGUP - S/T

The Ronson Hangup evolved when members of Melbourne bands - Even, The Anyones, The Pictures and Canon came together over a mutual admiration for Mick Ronson, the legendary guitarist from David Bowies’ Spiders From Mars. All five members of The Ronson Hangup are inspired by late 60’s and early 70’s guitar rock as exemplified by Mick Ronson who was responsible for the guitars on tracks such as Jean Genie and went on to produce Lou Reed’s Transformer and Morrissey’s Your Arsenal, amongst others.

BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE - LIVE AT THE HIFI

Limited Edition live CD release of 300 for Australian CD retail outlets only – 75 min disc showcasing many fan favourites culled from the first of two sold out shows at The Hi-Fi in Melbourne, Australia on August 30th 2008.

Led by enigmatic provocateur and sonic visionary Anton Newcomb, the Brian Jonestown Massacre are a controversial, independent and musically brilliant outfit who have attracted a legion of fans through their wildly futuristic psychedelic rock.

March 10, 2009 - Tuesday
Can’t think of anything to do when it’s lights out for Earth Hour? While Monopoly over candlelight may be fun for the whole family, the Melbourne Zoo has a better idea! They are brand new participants in the worldwide Earth Hour 2009 event on Saturday 28th of March and are holding a live acoustic concert in the lush surrounds of the Zoo gardens and exotic animals with Melbourne’s finest blues n’ roots performers, C.W. Stoneking & The Primitive Horn Orchestra, as headliner.

Supporting C.W.Stoneking is a special guest – and personal favourite of C.W.’s – Mamie Minch, all the way from the US and Melbourne’s Dirt River Radio.

Keeping in with the Earth Hour ethos, it will be lights out from 8:30-9:30pm and to make it an extra green event, a portion of the proceeds from the event will be put towards neutralising the carbon emissions produced by the concert.

C.W. Stoneking draws influence from pre-war blues, jazz, 1920s calypso, folklore, and personal experience to produce his original songs. Accompanied with his trusty steel bodied dobro guitar, tenor banjo and brass band, the 'Primitive Horn Orchestra' and Stoneking's songs range in style from lonesome field holler blues, to cheeky hokum duets, to full blown 'jungle jazz' epics. C.W.’s critically acclaimed second album, Jungle Blues, has him short-listed for the coveted Australian Music Prize, with a winner to be announced on March 13.

It will be a great opportunity to bring along your picnic hamper and participate in Earth Hour 2009 by having a relaxing summer evening chilling out to the sounds of blues’ and roots musicians.

Lights out from 8.30-9.30pm. BYO food and drink. Gates open at 5.30pm, show starts at 7pm. Animal viewing until 7pm. Tickets at the gate, from www.zoo.org.au or 1300 ZOOS VIC.

MELBOURNE'S GENRE-DEFYING ACT, DES PERES, RELEASE NEW ALBUM!!

Those low-down, hoe-down, kings of the sideways are back! Introducing their third album, The Adventures of Cowboy and Miniman, featuring the single Dynamite, and their subsequent Australian and international tour, Des Peres will take us by storm. The new album features cameos by Machines Translations, J Walker and Ned Collette.

Drawing on elements of hip hop, soul, funk, techno and of course the blues, Des Peres have built a huge reputation for being… well, quite unlike anything else.

Their sound has been likened to a "Raging mix of Parliament meets Talking Heads with a good dose of The Avalanches thrown in for taste" (Reiff Magazine). Their live show is not the sugar-coated candy that has been posing as the live music experience of recent times in Australia, but rather something that transports you beyond what you thought was possible.

"Undoubtedly one of the most exciting acts to come out of Melbourne in a long time"

Melbourne Underground Film Festival

"We may have uncovered the next Avalanches. Fantastic."

 Onion Magazine

UNCUT WHITE NOISE, SET TO RELEASE SELF-TITLED DEBUT EP IN AUGUST

Uncut White Noise are a bunch of veritable superstars as far as the Aussie, metal, music scene is concerned.

The band's members have served their fair share of time in Blood Duster, Earth, Abramelin, Uptown Killers, Steel Affliction, Scale, Tigernaut, Stiff Meat, Pillow, The De Loreans and Dread; a list so great it's impossible to ignore.

These metal maniacs have recorded a debut EP, ready to drop in August, which combines their sweaty, thrash-twinged, swingin' rock 'n' roll tunes with punk, rock and metal.

Despite being socially conscience, peace-loving dudes they're not letting any of that hippy shit stand in the way of good ol' sex, drugs and rock and roll.

The debut self-titled EP from Uncut White Noise is packed with a guarantee of a battering live show that drips with blood and debauchery.

Uncut White Noise's self-titled debut EP is available in stores and on iTunes August 2 through AmpHead Music.
