Thanks to those folks here who wished me a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! It's hard to believe... forty-one years... where did it all go?

...I did check in the sofa cushions... I found a bus ticket, some loose change, a pen, a sweet, but no forty-one years...

Anyway, this day ALSO represents my sad semi-departure from the kingdom of MySpace...

First off, this is NOT because I don't like MySpace... it's all a matter of time... and with the following...

- New and HUGE things in my studies coming up over the next few months.
- My personal blog (DoubleDeckerBuses.org/blog/)
- ...and some other stuff... but the top two kinda trump everything...

Time is a luxury I don't have anymore... especially when you guys see what's happenin' on the ghostly front shortly!

...anywho, like I said, I just don't have time to come here that often anymore, but if you REALLY want to keep up with myself and yeah, the bus dream amongst other things, check out the personal blog...My Personal Blog (click here) ...which is pretty much where I'll be TRYING to keep everyone abreast of things...

...oh, and this...

Yeah, I know... it's wrong... but...

...and there's always TorontoGhosts.org and PSICAN.org and whatnot...

...but MySpace... sorry to say, I got's to trim some online stuff out of my diet!

Tanks all!

PLEASE NOTE: These are not my "Matthew Hopes THIS WILL BE THE CASE" predictions... but my gut instinct. Don't kill the messenger...

Canadian Politics

Expect an election... and another Conservative minority.

Stephan Dion will be rousted from the liberal leadership and Michael Ignatieff will become the leader of the Liberals. This will NOT go over well and he'll be seen as taking the "long knife" to the party... after he wreaks havoc on the Grits and coming off more "scary conservative" than the Tory's, the Libs will lose in spectacular fashion and give the Tory's an eventual majority... it's after this (which will be the TRUE clearing-out of the Liberal "dead wood", and most likely between 2009 and 2010,) Justin Trudeau will finally step up to the leadership and after that, it will seem like the second coming of "King Pierre".

Economy - Downturn... not a complete recession or depression... and not for too long (perhaps a year, year and a half before serious improvements happen.)

US Politics

Hilary Clinton with side-runner veep candidate, Obama Barack will lose in a fairly spectacular style to Rudolph Giuliani with either Duncan Hunter or John McCain as veep. This will be seen as a slight (HAHAHAHAHA!) shift to the left for the Republicans and will overall be seen as a far better administration than the Bush presidency.

Universal health care and the environment will be top concerns after trying to rescue the economy and there WILL be some forward momentum in those areas. I expect Obama to be given a "post" to help get the health care things underway as Giuliani will wish to be portrayed as "socially conscious" in his term. Of course, there will be NO universal health care in America under the Republicans and they will simply extend "Medicare" and pat themselves on the back like they had just cured cancer.

With now only devout old-school right-wingers still denying, the US will start working on environmental issues making Canada and Mexico look environmentally weak for a time.

The US dollar continues to falter due to the real-estate bubble deflating (not bursting) but things will even-out shortly... Within two or three years, a senate committee will absolutely and indefatigably condemn Haliburton and former veep Dick Cheney who will be made a scape-goat for pretty much every debacle... deserved or not. (Oh, who am I kidding! Most Republicans I know realise that this guy is scary and deserves much blasting!)

Economy - Recession, bordering hard on depression... but only for a short time. (Two to three years of bad economy.)

World Events

Pakistan and India kinda heat-up over border issues... probably because India will NOT want the issues happening in Pakistan to come with any border-crossers...

Pakistan's elections will go off somewhat okay, but the general populace will be sick of terrorism and violence leading to a decay in support for any sort of extremist group.

Al Qaeda will regroup not in the Middle-East, but in the hot-beds of Africa.

Terrorism will still be a factor and concern, but after debacles in North America, Europe, and especially some brilliantly dumb attempts in Britain, it will start focusing on foreign holdings and nationals in those African countries that Al Qaeda gets a foot in the door with.

South America begins to be a little less "issue-y" with the United States.

Like how things have worked with Iran in 2007? Don't expect ANY changes in 2008.

Iraq will continue to calm down a LITTLE... but it's a long way from being "fixed".
Afghanistan will start rebuilding properly and insurgency will calm.

I hate to say this, but I also think that this will be a bad year for the British monarchy...

Entertainment

Expect a TV movie about the Spears kids... it will ATTEMPT to paint them sympathetically... and be, as they say online, an "Epic Fail".

Kevin Federline buries Brittney... but comes out fiscally poorer as that well will run dry.

Paris Hilton stretches her acting chops... and we'll wish she hadn't.

WALL-E and Indiana Jones DOMINATE the box office.

The writers' strike will end the conventional idea of the "TV Season" as network realise that the whole concept is outdated. The "Fall" season will become "Any Damn Time We Want To Release a New Show".

Dexter moves to the main CBS network and the show is killed when the network "tweaks" it to be more "popular". (EPIC FAIL!)

Corner Gas picked up by big US Network for regular slot. CBC freaks that "Little Mosque on the Prairie" is not.

Tom Cruise does well this year... and people will begrudgingly admire his work.

Health and Science

More distinct data about the possibility of life on other worlds... possibly one's nearby.

Nano-technology takes hold, but NOT in the Health Care industry... in home computers and electronics first.

"Cures" (long term advances) are seen in certain types of blindness, diabetes, Alzheimer's, and some forms of cancer become things of the past.

Spinal cord research starts seeing genuine help to those who are paralysed.

The non-scientists will FINALLY be silenced about ongoing stem-cell research AND climate change... but they'll still be smug despite being wrong... much to the irritation of all the rest of us.

Sports

Stanley Cup: Penguins
World Series: Red Sox
Super Bowl: Lions
NBA Champs: Celtics
Premiership: Chelsea
Major League Soccer: San Jose
Greatest Wrestlers of 2008: Ultramantis Black and Hydra~!

Computers and Electronics

Vista fades almost completely out... Microsoft goes into "ME" mode with it.

"Leopard" ends up being revised several times... with one being a decided "downgrade" that causes more issues than it fixes.

iPhones still suck. Blackberry units still dominate.

More shift towards the marriage of the computer, the game console, and the family television.

More dumb swipes by the RIAA to stop MP3s (genies' LONG out of the bottle, guys!)

Asus Eee machines become this generations iBook "must have" unit for teenagers thanks to some slick product-placement and advertising.

Robotics makes STARTLING advances that see commercial/household use climb dramatically.

Blu-Ray wins.

Google starts being more and more evil... starting a massive backlash from the "techno" masses. Yahoo will not capitalize on this fall from consumer grace... nor will Microsoft.

The $100 Laptop will be delayed... again.

Facebook and MySpace both kinda turn into running gags and wane in popularity... especially Facebook when Microsoft really starts digging into it.

Events

One DEVASTATING air crash... it will be VERY bad... pilot error.

Earthquake felt HARD in Southern Ontario... no deaths or major injuries, but a big scare.

Despite giggles right now from the ill-educated that the winters in North America are cold and snowy, they will be in for several rude awakenings when there are two "big thaws" between January and March... but they'll giggle again when the cold returns. It will be a VERY hot Summer... but dryer than normal for a lot of the world. Fall and Winter 2008 will mirror 2007.

Not too bad for earthquakes this year... not too good, but not as bad as in the past... but hurricanes will be fierce... especially along the Atlantic coast in the U.S.

Something REALLY nasty will happen in San Francisco or thereabouts.

Paris (France, not Hilton...) will also suffer something REALLY nasty.

Certain scientists of the "doom-saying" lot will announce that the initiatives to stem climate change will be "not enough" leading to fresh water reserves being highly sought-after resource in the world market. Canada starts looking "tempting" which raises our value in the world...

Oil found in South America drops the price of crude rather steeply.

Another "terror attack" on a school will happen sending a huge shiver down the world's collective spine... but also prompting renewed public pressure against ALL forms of terrorism and aggression... groups like Hamas and even eventually Al Qaeda, try to "shed" their roots in favour of a more "political party" looking facade.

Paranormal

There will be TWO "big mainstream" ghostly news items... probably very odd sightings or seemingly good evidence.

Ufology will pretty much stay the same... other than some new attention from the masses.

Cryptozoology will brighten with the "finding" of three new large mammals.

Sylvia Browne's fall from grace becomes a plummet this year.

Crime Scene Investigators (formerly CSICOP) will continue it's steady decent into nothingness as more people bail from the non-science they spew and realise that they are nothing more than a sub-religion named Atheism of which THEY wish to attach their own dogmas.

Television will continue to portray our studies as a cartoon and I will continue to suffer hyper-tension from it.

More of our (PSICAN's) thoughts, notes, ideas, hypothesis, and all will be "appropriated" and displayed as someone else's work and efforts without any sort of credit given... in other words, no change there!

This Halloween, Ufology and conspiracy theories will dominate the "weird news" ahead of ghosts and crypto.

There will be ONE "new" psychic celebrity who will really make 75% of those of us interested go "WOW!" and 20% of the interested population scream "FAKE!" and 5% won't give a rat's butt about them.

Celebrity Hospital

Carol Burnett
Stephen King
Britney Spears - It'll be REALLY bad...
Mick Jagger
Stompin' Tom Connors
Burt Reynolds
Henry Kissinger
Farrah Fawcett
Leonard Cohen
Oprah (Exhaustion)
Louis Farrakhan
Margret "Maggy" Trudeau
Louis Jourdan
Dr. Jack Kevorkian
Fidel Castro - Not officially "dead" yet... and will remain in "hospital".

Death Pool

Les Paul
Dick Clark
Confirmation of Osama Bin Laden
Walter Cronkite
Aretha Franklin
Jimmy Carter
Kirk Douglas
Roger Ebert
Margaret Thatcher
Robert Wagner
Fifty Cent
Bobby "The Brain" Heenan
Billy Graham
Ricardo Montalban
I hate to write this... more than you know... but my gut says...
Queen Elizabeth II

Personal

More blogging...
Re-vamp of PSICAN main site...
Torontoghosts/Ontarioghosts remain the same... new material, same "classic" design...
AT LEAST 3 big Investigations... and several little ones...
More laughing at CSICOP... er, Crime Scene Investigators...

Welcome to the field of paranormal research and investigation... beware the cow-pats in this field.

ARRGH! I got sucked in... and I should know better...

A "MySpace" group posted a bulletin to ask for answers to kid's questions about ghost investigation... or "hunting" as they refer to it.

I answered... and according to Sue and one e-mail, I did a goodly job...

Of course, the public response was not so kind... It wasn't bad... and it wasn't awful or hateful... and I'm sure the person meant no harm... and perhaps it's because I've been off my blood pressure meds for almost two weeks (needed a new script) and am fighting a brutal case of bronchitis...

...but man alive... something "tweaked" me with this...

It tweaked an old complaint... one I kinda blogged about already...

The "responder" had two issues... now, in my heart of hearts, I don't think any malice was involved... this was most assuredly not the beginning of a "flame war"... but it got to me none the less...

The first one was to my answer for "Do Ghosts Scare You?"

Now, there's a glib, unscientific answer to this... which is, "The Living Scare Me Far More Than The Dead"... I'm not fond of this reply because, to be honest, NOT ONE SOUL has PROVEN that "ghosts" are the spirits of the dead... it's an untested hypothesis accepted by some as "fact"... and they "poo-poo" any other possible hypothesis as crud because, after all, they KNOW BETTER!

Anyway, my response to this question was something along the lines of "Ghosts don't scare me... people do."

The response???

Something like, "LOL! Aren't ghosts people too?"

Are they? Can you prove that without a shadow of a doubt? Also, are you now saying that ONLY people can be ghosts???

Grrrr...

Next was my non-usage of the word "hunter".

Sue and I have never called ourselves "hunters" as, and yes, this is comedy... "We don't stalk and kill ghosts and buying a hunting license for them is really expensive!"

I could have added my bit about the trouble with taxidermy, but I've said enough...

Anyway, the "responder" put up an un-cited "definition" of "hunter" as "Someone who seeks".

I went to Merriam-Websters and found that, of course, this WAS a definition... a secondary one... the primary one was "Someone who hunts game."

The ghost of a deer, perhaps?

I pointed out that the term was NOT really appropriate... but I already know what the deal will be... "Which one is more MEDIA FRIENDLY?"

Anyway...

I have now blocked this particular MySpace group... everytime I read their posts and it's follow-ups, I need stronger blood-pressure meds.

It's not that these people are DUMB... it's just that they SEEM to be parroting things without really understanding them... and they also SEEM to live to take swipes at other ghost-groups.... which is just irritating.

Best to concentrate on my own efforts... (as I know both Sue and my e-mailer will agree.)

Anyway, allow me to pose a ponderer to you FROM this list of questions... it's a good one and, believe it or not, there's always "good" somewhere in stuff I find... and here it is...

Now, providing these folks weren't lying about "who" posed the question... a kid under ten asked...

Why are there ghosts?

I was instantly reminded of the lyrics to a great song by XTC called "Dear God"... which SHOULD be the Atheist's anthem (and no, I am NOT an Atheist, but I can appreciate a good logical question...) which went...

Did you make mankind after we made you?

Considering that the Society for Psychical Research is pretty much married to the notion that all ghostly manifestations are the result of RSPK (Recurrent Spontaneous Psycho Kinesis) with some justification... "Are there ghosts"???? ...or are there only extensions of ourselves???

...and if the latter, wouldn't that count?

I often ask... and people think I'm kidding... "If a ghost haunted in a forest and no one was around to witness the phenomena, would it still haunt?"

Is the witness necessary for ghostly phenomena to occur?

...is the witness only necessary for SOME types of occurrences?

"Why are there ghosts?"

Is it possible there are ghosts because "we" (humans) need them... and otherwise, they wouldn't exist?

I've often said, I do STRONGLY believe in ghostly phenomena... but it's the "causation" of that phenomena... and the interpretation of the witnesses that make me wonder.

Our friend, John Robert Colombo is famous for saying, "I don't believe in ghosts, I believe in ghost stories."

I hope Sue becomes famous for her response to this... "I believe in ghosts, not ghost stories." meaning the margin for variance between what happened and how a witness perceived it can be quite large.

After all, one person's "Angel" is another person's "Demon" is another person's possible "Ghost"...

It'd be nice if, just maybe, the people in our field of study stopped for a moment... stepped aside for JUST an instance from looking for their "Favourite Bits of Evidence"... and tried to answer that question from a NEUTRAL standpoint...

"Why are there ghosts?"

...and instead of behaving like the people they so often get angry with... those who deny things out of hand... they opened their own mind... and studied... and looked beyond their own belief and faith... just at what evidence there is.

If for ONE LOUSY WEEK, everyone in the "supposed" paranormal community was able to do this, I betcha we'd find some pretty interesting stuff... that we didn't even know we should look for.

Won't happen though... Everyone will continue to chase their tail, stomping through cemeteries, getting all giddy when they capture a photo of dust in the flash.

They ask everyone to have "open minds"... when so rarely do they demonstrate the ability themselves.

I just finished my October updates... and there's a TONNE of them! (Check out the "What's New" page...)

The Toronto Ghosts and Hauntings Research Society

Yup, this is the TENTH YEAR we've been online... Ten years of aggrivation, pain, anger, and generally wondering why the (blank) we do this crud... er, I mean, ten years of study, learning, and working towards looking into the mysteries that share the planet with us known as "Ghostly Experiences"!

High Weirdness With The Bus and Me...

This is a repost... well, a re-edit and re-post... I don't feel TOO bad about this as, if you look below, there's a "Blogtalkers" post from earlier today AND a "Blog Your Blessing Sunday"... but I had a request to re-post the "synchronicities" that exist with the bus and ourselves...

So, here's our BUSLY SYNCHRONICITY...

__________________

1: Sue and I really chose our neighbourhood from the heart. We live in a place that isn't terribly handy to either of our work places (back when we moved) and we knew there were "issues" with moving into an old building with NO ELEVATOR (fourth floor walk-up) and NO AIR CONDITIONING (low amp circuits can't handle them)... but we loved (and love) the place SO much, that we have no intentions of moving until we purchase a home... and we're hoping to stay in the neighbourhood...

We literally visited the area (and building) on a fluke during a stroll for some exorcise... and JUST after Sue said she would NEVER live in an apartment building during this walk, I pointed to this one and said, How about that one? and she said, Yes. I like that one.

The next week, we visited again and KISMET! There was a two-bedroom just made available... we applied... and we're in it now as I type.

Again, this all pre-dates finding the bus... and the dream... but it's our neighbourhood and here we are.

Fast-forward to a few scant months ago, the blog here is in full swing and we're trying to make our dream of owning RLH 3 a reality...

While looking through old Toronto Transit information, I found that Toronto Transit DID run double-deckers (see the pic above)... way back when our building was brand new... and those old double-deckers ran on ONE route only...

Guess what it passed on it's journeys to and fro?

Yup, our apartment building.

2: One of it's former residences was in Roswell, New Mexico ...and the fact that Sue's a Ufologist and we both study the paranormal makes this one's my favourite! We don't know (yet) if the bus is haunted... but considering it's journeys, if we find ANY debris from a UFO, we'll let everyone know.

4: When last in England, I use to take a long walk through London almost every night... it ends up that the route I walked was RLH 3's "centre city" route when it came in from the country... this was it's longest lasting route when in service. Needless to say, the last time I was in London was 1995 and I knew nothing of RLH 3... I just liked the walk.

Advance, by the centre, MARCH!

5: While "Googling" RLH 3, I came across this...

Table of contents for Battlegrounds of freedom : a historical guide to the battlefields of the War of American Independence / Norman Desmarais.

RLH-3: Re-enacting, family activities, children and cooking.

...which I found weird since we're (the family) War of 1812 re-enactors.

...and for those wondering, RLH 3 is "Regent Low Height 3" to us... yup, our bus...

...and I've often joked that we would be "back in the field" with the re-enactors when we could drive there in our bus

I know, I said "NO PARANORMAL STUFF" on this MySpace... but I wanted to share this rant here...

Layeth the Smacketh Down - "We're all just one big happy community!"

THE HELL WE ARE!

Paranormal Community Leader

Recently, one of our staffers at PSICAN has really made an effort to "reach out" and meet with the local "ghost groups" and whatnot... he would like to show that our group is "in touch" with the "community".

Ahhh... yes... The "Community" of ghost hunters.

Heck, we know 'em well! We've even been THREATENED by a couple of people that we would be shunned, forsaken, and generally ostracized by said "community" when we didn't want to jump up, scream, promote, and proclaim a particular business as a jenn-you-whine haunted location.

The way people look at these OTHER groups, you'd assume that there must be a "ghostly town hall" of some sort where everybody BUT US gets together to discuss the comings and goings of paranormal research.

OKAY, I'm going to say what I feel here... and it ain't gonna be nice...

Looking at the local groups, once you eliminate the "cemetery stompers",(those that incorrectly assume ALL cemeteries are haunted and are more about effect rather than substance,) the "thrill seekers", (those that break into any scary, creepy looking building hoping for a good scare,) the "media crack-whores", (those that are hoping they'll be on TV or the paper because they're just so damned cool,) and those who don't WANT to know their butt from their elbow, (still not looking into WHY they're using certain things and even WHAT they're looking for save A GHOST because reading is too difficult, apparently,) you are really left with precious few folks!

Most of our "other" local groups can't get along amongst themselves... like I've pointed out...

A GHOST IS...

  • A spirit of a dead person that is unaware they have passed on.
  • A spirit of a dead person that has unfinished business.
  • Something else...

I've seen flame wars bigger than most based only on THIS question.

The REAL answer: No one knows... There is no proof of any of these different hypothesis... and there never will be so long as everyone is running about ignoring all the inconvenient facts because they are clinging to their own cherished belief.

Yup, that's the "community"!

Now, I am a legitimately altruistic guy... I'd love to see the "study" and those in the field gel into a greater whole...

...but I'm also a realist... and I know that 95% of our "community" aren't even on the same book, let alone the same page... or even near it.

So many refuse to read.

So many refuse to acknowledge that there has been literally centuries of legitimate work done before television was invented.

So many refuse to understand what legitimate "non-paranormal" work is being done in universities and labs that DOES directly affect their efforts.

...too many refuse to understand anything beyond what they "want" or what they "like".

Thus, they are not investigating... they are not researching...

They are thrill seeking, cherry-picking facts, and hoping for the prize at the bottom of the Cracker-Jack box without even opening the top.

It's pretty sad that I would HONESTLY say that 80% of my "colleagues" in this community don't know the names Fodor, Price, Roll, Rogo, Spencer, Underwood... or a long, LONG list of names...

...but can tell you the name of Britney Spears' latest boyfriend.

Hell, half of them don't know who Michael Shermer, James Randi, and CSICOP (now Crime Scene Investigators) are... and wait 'til THAT one bites 'em in the butt!

Hey, I'll be the FIRST person to say I'm a pompous, egotistical dinkus about things when talking about my study to those in the "community"... because, as an example, what's the POINT of talking to you about findings with an electro-magnetic field meter at a haunt if you don't understand how to take a mean reading, how to look for acceptable variances within controls and environmental standards, or even WHY you're using one of these things!

The realisation that MANY people are simply running about with "machines that go ping" hits hard... and you REALLY, REALLY wonder if you want to be anywhere NEAR this community.

They are not investigators... they are not researchers... they are not colleagues... they are NOT in the pursuit of knowledge and answers...

They are what they are... and my experience has shown me that the VAST majority of them are illiterate, thrill-seeking preachers of their own faith who are less than interested in the legitimate topics at hand...

"We went here, isn't that cool?"

"Look at our gadgets! Aren't they cool?"

"We're just like that TV show! Isn't that so cool?"

NO! IT ISN'T!

...at least, not to me.

I see ourselves as a respectable group that looks at ALL the information... we doubt everything and dismiss nothing without evidence... and we rarely start ANY project without actually understanding WHY we're doing it from any perspective.

...and it pains me that so many other's can not and WILL not do the same.

They are not adding one iota of information or help to a complex study they purport to be a part of.

Ergo: No. I am not interested in this "community".

We DO have friends and colleagues... We DO have people we respect...

...and that, as stated, is less than 5% of the people we've met, known about, or otherwise were "forced" to acknowledge in some fashion.

I once asked if you wanted the "Association of Spiritual Seekers" (or ASS) wandering around your home... yup, ASS people in your house with EMF detectors screaming about sudden jumps in levels when the microwave is turned on that it MUST be a ghost... ASS people showing you orb photos PROVING there's a ghost about... ASS members displaying the mist photos from where they had cigarettes outside showing the ghostly presence... ASS folks using laser thermometers showing four and five degree centigrade differences in temperature from the brick wall to the wood panelling... ASS people with a grasp of history matched only by their knowledge of the history of the television program Friends...

...and it's all about ASS.

...and this is our "community".

Want to be a part of it?

...or like us, would you ignore it, stick with friends and colleagues who you know have a clue, and move forward.

Guess which we're doing?

I'll say it... the paranormal "community" is full of idiots. Full of people unwilling to read and learn... and no, we really want no truck or trade with most of them.

My most frequent comment when having to discuss the majority of the "community" with people who I do respect...?

In our field, there's an awful lot of cow-pats.

So, hate me if you must for riding a high-horse and being a pompous, unfriendly, overly-educated git...

...because I am...

...so is MOST of the people we work with...

...and I wouldn't have it any other way.

For us, this is a serious study... a serious field of research... and we put a lot of work into it.

To have some nitwit from "Paranormal Investigators of South Swansea" (or PISS) start to tell us where our efforts are wrong based on their understanding of two television programs DOES NOT endear this "community" to our heart.

Sorry if that offends, but it's accurate.

Oh, and if you think this is harsh, it isn't... do a "Google" search under "paranormal" and read some of the gunk.

A great piece of advice was once given to me by a LEGITIMATE colleague... "Just Rise Above It."

...maybe this is why I'm so lofty.

...granted, after a decade of being compare to ASS, PISS, and numerous other mindless mouth-breathers, do you blame me?

Comment on my regular blog...

Your dream will come true one day...all the bloggers will celebrate, and then we'll all come a-riding on your bus!

My first thought is that I'm SO happy this seems to be true... I gotta be honest, we're really feeling the "busly love" lately and yeah, our dream seems to have been adopted by many...

I'd say it's people "rooting" for the concept of a dream coming true... that same thing that makes us "spend" lottery winnings in our mind when we buy a ticket... or thinks about what we would do with our "perfect home".

I am SO glad that SO many people are pulling for our dream... I really hope, more than anything else, that we don't dissapoint YOU and prove that, indeed, a dream... even a small and whacky one... can come true!

My second thought is about giving everyone a ride...!!!

Not unless I find CHEAP tyres and CHEAP diesel fuel!!! :)

(But I'll try to get a few of you out for a spin IF we make this dream happen!)

Captain America - Dead and Buried...

Captain America's Funeral

So, Marvel Comics has killed and buried one of it's pre-emanate characters in Captain America...

It's not so much that this is anything new... comic "heroes" and others have been "bumped off" before... but this is kind of an icon.

What got to me was the interview with the writer as to why...

From CNN...

(Writer Jeph Loeb) "Part of it grew out of the fact that we are a country that's at war, we are being perceived differently in the world," Loeb said. "He wears the flag and he is assassinated -- it's impossible not to have it at least be a metaphor for the complications of present day."

Hmmm...

Now, I know I've not really "revealed" my political stripes too clearly... this is partly, because being a Canadian, it's difficult to define to others...

Let me roll on this for a minute... and some may disagree, but hey, it's my opinion...

America has had something of a very rough time in world views... at once, it's seen as a "shining beacon" of industry and wealth. It's a powerhouse and this has all been done as a democracy which is no mean feat... the only country that comes this close is Britain in the 1700's through the early parts of the 20th century.

Unfortunately, it's also seen as something of a large bully... but there's more good reason than most people assume for this...

Many that I've read and spoken to assume this is because of the flexing of it's military and economic powers... but this isn't all of it.

America, being truly the origin of much of the world's media tends to not realise that what is patriotic and geared towards their own citizenry is seen by the world... and not-so-much absorbed, but questioned...

I have in the past given this as an example...

Had Mexico been the mass producer of much of the world's media and you, in America, watched your kids know more about Mexico than you're own country... and kept hearing "Mexico is Number ONE!" and lines like, "The world WISHES it was as great as Mexico!", you might have a wee hate-on for Mexico... it would seem like a bragging bully who's kind-of saying your country isn't worth spit.

Now, add to this a general knowledge that Mexicans knew NOTHING about America... and sometimes, Mexican visitors would come and say "Boy, you American's sure are weird! You really should do things RIGHT like we do down here in Mexico! Our lives are perfect and we know you people really want to be Mexicans after all!"

Finally, take this into consideration... You're a farmer in North Dakota... you've tilled the good earth and reaped it's bounty in a time-honoured tradition... You want to get your son or daughter involved... but they are glued to the television watching the latest match at Arena Mexico and singing Spanish songs while wearing Spanish clothing... and asking you if they can visit Mexico because, after all, Mexico is #1 and all the cool stuff (and best opportunities) are in Mecixo!

How would you feel?

This is how much of the world saw America...

Now, here's where I show my britches...

Saddam Hussein and his regime was bad. They were using chemical weapons against their own people (the Kurds) and had a track record of not being a very moderate or temperate government. Although there IS some truth to the idea that there was a fear about them "not playing ball" with America, Hussein was bad as were many in his party and in the ruling corridors of Baghdad.

He had to go... but the TRUTH is, he should have been gone after Desert Storm... we didn't finish the job that needed finishing. The allied forces (truly a global force) got him out of Kuwait and called it a war... they shouldn't have.

Ergo: Yes, I believe that a war to depose Saddam and the Ba'ath Party had to happen...

BUT NOT BECAUSE THEY WERE "MUSLIM" OR "ISLAMIC"... because they were truly bad.

Pretty much the same reasons, to a much lesser extent, why some of the "leaders" of Darfur and places like that need to begone.

So, believe it or not... I'm actually for the war... it needed to be done. The fault, however, really lies at the feet of a job not finished and little else.

Bush and Cheney, however, smelling the blood in the water knew that they had to finish this job... as did Clinton before them... but they used the wrong reasons for the conflict... yes, in my opinion, they lied.

There's so many layers of "bad" about this that the mind boggles.

Realistically, Afghanistan and groups operating there (who WERE trained by the CIA to help combat the Russian insurgence into their country years ago,) were the real enemies of America... they were the one's behind 9/11... and they (Al-Qaeda) and the Taliban represented and still represent the greatest threat.

There is ZERO substantial evidence to support that Hussein and Al-Qaeda or the Taliban were in bed together... in fact, President Bush and his colleagues have admitted this... "Faulty Intelligence" is their blame.

The most common "argument" as to why this is "okay" is It was a matter of time.

Using this logic, we should re-instate the death penalty globally and start eliminating all people that have the POTENTIAL to become criminals and murderers... it's not a valid argument in my opinion.

Still, remember, I do favour that Hussein had to go... (I also believe a "buffer state" needed to be set up between Iran and Syria... but that's another thing...) and I absolutely shed no tears for the fall of the Taliban.

...but the second Iraq War was "advertised" to the American people using lies and deceit. This cannot be denied and hasn't been save by a few fervent supporters of a president who, he himself, admitted there was some "miscommunications" in areas.

The issue lay in how do you SELL the idea that war is necessary in Iraq to the American people... and I'm sorry, there's no doubt that the Bush administration used, falsely, the terrible attacks of 9/11 to "inflame" American sensibilities into armed conflict.

This sent shock waves not only through America, but through the rest of the world... "we" saw what seemed to be a legit cause (Afghanistan) downplayed to allow for a war under what appeared to many as false pretences (which was proven and acknowledged by the current administration) for reasons that were never made clear... because we needed to continue the lies.

Worse yet, most of the civilized world, including America, is supposed to be non-sectarian in government... a separation of "State" and "Church"...

Since the Taliban and Al-Qaeda are Fundamentalist Islamic groups, it seemed to many that this was "Christianity" vs. "Islam"... which isn't really true...

It was Fundamentalists and Extremists against what they saw as a cultural and economic "crusade" by the West... who's leaders were very Christian.

This ignited the sentiment that it is a re-living of the Crusades of old... and allowed the fundamentalists on both sides to wave their particular spirituality in the air to try and instigate action from their troops.

And here is where we are now...

Extremists on both sides trying to suggest the obliteration and genuine genocide of it's opposite number based on religion and spirituality.

God has asked us to kill... so we must.

Either way, it TRULY is these handful of extremists who cause much of the misery in people's lives...

...but who is the "great Satan"?

Apparently, it's America...

...and I say that's utter and total rubbish.

America's worst crime is the propaganda that started what I feel was a sadly necessary war... of which the first part, Afghanistan, was an absolutely necessary war without question.

I would remind NOT ONLY the people world-wide who condemn America, but in some cases, Americans themselves that America, for it's handful of ills, is the first country on the scene as a rule for aid to help out it's neighbours on the globe. Americans, as a rule, are hospitable, helpful, and genuinely warm and wonderful people.

All things considered, America is a great nation doing marvellous things...

...and because of some larger "mistakes" or "miscues", they are being taken to task from without and within... and that's not right.

My issues with the current government are as follows...

- The reasons for going into Iraq should have been made clear and not "fogged over" to try and sell things for false reasons.

GRANTED: The current administration HAS admitted fault... and although the situation has not improved, people need to ask themselves... should they have "stayed out"? In my opinion, no... but the truth might have been a better option. Granted, don't get me started over Haliburton and the war... this is another case where the world REALLY wonders how much the current administration is "By The People, For The People" and not "From The People, To The Administration Personally". Even most Republicans that I've spoken to are a little uncomfortable with this angle.

- Their stance on global environment.

GRANTED: The current administration has strengthened it's views on this situation... and is trying to work to do "something" about it. Sure, it's not enough... sure, others are doing more... but it's better than the original outright denial because although I don't doubt that certain people have given us the "Worst Case Scenario" as to what global warming will do and means, I don't doubt that it's real, it's occurring, and that our pollution is not helping. We DO need to do something aside from the original stance... outright denial.

- Their stance on certain scientific issues... such as stem-cell research.

Okay, this one just does display buttheaded pig-ignorance. The popular mantra of "Stem Cell Research" = "Aborted Babies" is a crock... but few people bother to look at what science is doing... I pointed out that good and usable stem cells are found in quantity within severed umbilical cords which are, more often than not, treated as medical waste and tossed... and THOSE cells could save millions and billions of lives... but damned if the religious and "non-thinking" people are stuck in a single mode... It was about this, don't tell me otherwise! It's evil and must be stopped! They are wrong... and billions WILL die because they refuse to remove their heads from their butts.

Side Note on Stem Cell Research: I was listening to a science report on the radio and British scientists seem to have found a cure for age related macular degeneration of the eyes in older folks... guess what they do... yup, stem cells... but not from "aborted fetuses". They take ADULT stem cells from the patients own eyes and literally move them to where the damage is being done and voila... The doctors feel that this will be an operation done in an ophthalmologists office under a local and it takes about forty-five minutes. Their success rate is extremely good and within a few years, they feel it will be standard treatment and save millions of older people from blindness... which will include both my mom and mother-in-law... and probably me and Sue eventually... and this is what stem cell research does and no babies were harmed in this cure... but as long as you blanket-state that stem cell research is bad, you'll never know.

- Partisanship.

Being a blogger has truly opened my eyes to some of America's ills... and partisanship is a huge one. It's one thing to disagree with someone's stance... it's another to suggest that they are "traitors" or "treasonous" because they disagree. This is what democracy is all about. I have seen only three American blogs with the "left" suggesting the death or harm of those on the "right"... but COUNTLESS blogs from the "right" declaring war and worse on the "left". It amazes people like me how anything gets accomplished with such anger and venom between countrymen!

- The Current Universal Health Care Situation.

I know, I'm sounding like a Michael Moore "mark"... and maybe I am... but LONG before he decided to tackled the politicos on ANY subject, I was Canadian... and had access to decent universal health care... and knew all those around me did too. It's shocking and terrible to think that in such a great country as America that someone COULD go without proper treatment and suffer (or even die) because of a financial situation... it's even more shocking to see the numbers of "personal bankruptcies" based on hospital stays and bills in the USA... I do hope that this will be shortly addressed and dealt with... and if you hate Michael Moore, but agree that America COULD and SHOULD provide health care to it's citizens, thank him for that at least... hopefully his message will get out to the country and Washington might examine more legitimately the idea of making sure it's citizens are well cared for and healthy.

For me, that's about it...

So, wow... that's it, hunh?

Now, I've blogged about bad run-ins with American tourists abroad... the "Ugly Americans"... but even then, as now, I recognize these as the EXCEPTIONS and NOT THE RULES.

In fact, recent world events have made America FAR more interested in how it's perceived on the planet... I've noticed that save a few small (but loud) voices, Americans DO want to see everyone TRULY getting along... and they do care about their fellow "Earthlings"...

...so to say that "America is EVIL!" or "America is SATAN" is utter hogwash.

America has its "good" which is FAR more prevalent than it's "bad"... but everyone notices the "wart" on the super-models face more than everything else.

I am glad that America exists. I thank God for what America is and represents.

...and I'll be damned if I hear otherwise... because, without a doubt, that's a short-sighted view that's myopic to boot.

Captain America need not have died... most of us with a brain know that America may have it's issues... and sometimes can seem a little arrogant and troublesome...

...but like a wonderful, colourful, giant of an Uncle who hugs a bit too hard and forces his "views" of the world down everyone's throats at the family barbecue... you know that while you occasionally cringe and in some ways, you fear his arrival... you also know that when push comes to shove, he will be there beside you... helping... and generally making sure things with you are okay.

That uncle might be a bit hard to stomach, but you love him anyway...

...and in your heart, you know he loves you too.

I may not have liked some of the stances of the current administration... I may cringe when reading and listening to a handful and wonder if a political stance for some is simply a way to justify underlying racism and hate... and perhaps, we're noticing the awakening to a myth that's really bugging some people... no, the world really doesn't want to be "American" despite what Hollywood and your teachers told you... most of us aren't jealous of your freedoms and your way of life... many of us have the exact same freedoms and a very similar way of life... and that can be a bitter pill to swallow.

Say what you like, America is a great country... I'm a VERY proud Canadian and I see that. They are kind, benevolent, and truly do believe they are doing the right things...

I love America... and I hate hearing anyone, especially Americans, disparage it's greatness.

I am Canadian... I will always be Canadian... My heart and soul are all about my home... but I'll say it.. and proudly...

God Bless America!

Not a Shot at Democrats

Oh, and since I took my gloves off, allow me to go on record as stating that the images of things like a WWII GI saying the Democrats are "scumbags", pictures of Bush with Adolph Hitler, putting Barack Obama in a Photoshopped get-up to look like Osama Bin-Laden is about as effective as drawing a moustache on a teacher's picture. Far from making me see the world anew through your "brilliance", it makes me think that the average four-year old child is probably more competent at having a decent argument and thought.

This nonsense, in my opinion, is the grass-roots political equivalent of sticking your tongue out and saying "Nyeah! Your guy SUCKS!" which, oddly enough, is not a political statement nor does it make me think, Hmm... perhaps I should reconsider things.

Oh, and as for Barack Obama... PLEASE click here and READ... AND REMEMBER, I'm not a Democrat nor even an American... but I hate people who lie in order to propagate some action. The TRUTH should never be "sacrificed" to make a point.

Current mood:  angry
Category: Dreams and the Supernatural
...and in one fell swoop, my day is ruined.

Okay, I am absolutely SICK and TIRED of certain folks pontificating about one point, and contradicting themselves on the next.  At last check, it was reffered to as hypocrisy.

I'm not going into to details about what's triggered this... but allow me to share a couple of things...

See this? This is about third in total of my editorials and notes... it's a collection of my most popular editorials and documents I've written (and others in my group) about the paranormal. Most are dated... and most are several years old.

See this? It's kind of a lower-end compenium of all the above.

See this?  It's a years work... and has been through many revisions... and has many, many sources cited... and is also several years old in origin.

I've been doing this schtick online for a decade... I've been studying things since my own experience in my early teens... I've been seriously studying since my mid-twenties...

I'm forty now.

I cite my sources... I don't think I've done any major revelations... save I do believe I was ONE OF THE first to question orb photos... I am the first to publicly question EMF meters and the whole EMF = Ghosts equation... I have stumbled across a few things, but I'm FAR from perfect and I'm FAR from the "original"... and I do cite those I've learned from... and credit folks...

I wish others would do the same because, maybe they don't know, but their "fans" have e-mail and MySpace access and message me to tell me what a big "copier" I am... and when I look into things, I'm not.

...and then I also rarely see even credit to the sources I learned from.

So, to those who feel I've "offended" those who they believe walk with the gods... sorry, your demi-gods have feet of clay... as do I... as do you...

...and I ain't perfect, but I do know that I owe a lot to some people and I do thank them, mention them, give them credit...

When your demi-gods don't, that doesn't mean they are the "originators", it means they neglected to do the same as I do.

Remember: A grade five essay requires sources... why don't online articles on the paranormal?

Science (and yes, I am an amateur scientist and practice good scientific protocols and observational methods...) always cites sources... historians always cite sources... Very few people really come up with anything on their own COMPLETELY... but unlike REAL studies and REAL efforts, apparently, many in the realm of paranormal research can pontificate, drop "buzz words", and generally attempt and pretend to understand things when they don't and beyond not comprehending WHY and WHAT they're doing, decry other's who do because, you know what? People like me steal their fun and thunder.

Again, no one is perfect... so get over it... and yes, I have empiracle evidence that indeed, not just me, but sometimes, other people have been there first.

Try to admit things... because there's no shame in the motto "Adopt, Adapt, Improve"... but you should give a nod to what and who you adopted... 'cause sometimes, we will not shuffle off quietly into that good night.
