Current mood:  nostalgic

That's right us folk at Johnny Mental have decided to call it day and split up after 6 years. The split is very amicable there is no inner band beef, it just seemed natural after doing very little for a while to end now.

We are planning on doing one last local show to finish off, the venue is still TBA at the moment but when it is announced all the details will be on here.

We'd like to thank everyone who came to see us, put us on over the years, all previous band members, bands we've played/toured with and all those who've partied with us.  It's been alot of fun!!!

Hope to catch alot of you at the last show!

What an excellent week and half it's been round the UK with our great friends The Death Of Her Money.

Highlights have to include Charlesy aka Colin being drunk almost every night, arm wrestling and the dance off in Newtownards, Charlesy aka Colin falling asleep and getting penned every night, dancing to gabba in Edinburgh, haggis neeps and tatties, Tennents, Guiness, Gin, The Experience getting busted by cops with a massive cock drawn on his stomach, play do, Lancaster, Total Recall quotes, Alan Partridge, the five car pile up which I saved us from, Baker's tour journey lasting one day, the penning of Liam Anthony and Nicky's Irish accent! Hello There Father.

Kaskie from TDOHM will be writing up a tour diary, I shall post a link when he's finished so the details can be read.

Thanks to Ryan and all the boys in Escape Fails for showing us a great time in Ireland, Amanda and Amanda for putting us up and letting us stink out their house, Iain, Animal, Shane and Liam for excellent time had up in Scotland and Jamie and Tom in Lancaster.

Pictures coming very soon!

JOHNNY MENTAL

PINING FOR THE FJORDS
(Hangmans Joke)

Totally painful...in a rather good way
JOHNNY Mental's full-speed, relentless assault on your senses would be fucking terrible if you were a) hungover, b) suffering PMT. However, for the rest of the day/month you might just be rallied enough by this album's heavy grooves and wails to get up out of bed and mosh. Hailing from the valleys of South Wales, these monsters about as far removed from the gentle melodies of FFAF or the 'Prophets as you can imagine. Think a more fuzzy Machine Head, or UK Metal heroes Stampin' Ground punching VOD square in the jaw. Tracks 'Speaks In Dead Tongues' and 'Dimmer' perfectly showcase this band's knack of fusing high-speed metal with a vocal bark. Having already snapped up attention from Scuzz Tv (and people probably mixing them up with Johnny Truant), they are well on their way to greater things. (7)

THEYD RATHER BE A SCANDNAVIAN METAL BANDPOSSIBLY

JOHNNY MENTAL are a band whose chugging, stop-start dynamics should draw questions about whether theyre steadfastly determined or just out of touch, were it not that each song convulses and strains with the kind of eye-bulging intensity you simply experience. Simplistic but effective. Theyre too busy ranting and writhing to address the problem of most of their songs being repetitive so instead they succeed in fashioning a diveting racket. Its not one many people would or could endure listening to more than once with bands like Dillinger wreaking fresher havoc, but JM are too chaotic an act to be bothered by such trifling politics.

JOHNNY MENTAL (6)
'Pining For The Fjords'
(hangmans joke)

Holding absolutely nothing back, Brit hopefuls Johnny Mental start as they mean to go on with some up-tempo riffing and throat shredding screams. Falling between Bring Me The Horizon and Mendeed, they chug along nicely. 'Shrinking Violet' and 'Meat Cleaver' offer the best snippets if you're in a downloading mood.
