Hey everybody,

As the holidays draw nigh--well, I think that's what they're doing, unless my understanding of archaic English isn't what it could be, and what are the odds of that--we want to interrupt your preparations for an announcement. Previous attendees of our Hanukkah gala and careful perusers of yolatengo.com will be aware of the special commemorative t-shirts, and perhaps many of you have even purchased them in the
past. Previously, they have been available at the eight Hanukkah shows and nowhere else, although we have been known to sell any overstock on the web site. Did I say previously? Yes--this year, we have decided to change things.

Starting Monday, December 15, two brand new t-shirts, designed by Stephen Hunking, will be available on line from the good folks at Kung Fu Nation. Can you think of a finer holiday gift? (No.) This offer is, as they say, for a limited time only. As soon as Hanukkah ends on the 28th, the t-shirts will be officially out of print. As with the sales
of the shirts at Maxwell's, the proceeds (less the cost of the shirts themselves) will go to this year's charities. More on them later. To grab a gander at this year's models, go to http://www.yolatengo.com/ or http://www.kungfunation.com/ee/index.php/

While we've got your attention, I do want to bring up an email we received, asking us about this year's Hanukkah shows, specifically about the participation of someone, it doesn't matter who. We didn't answer the email, because we prefer not to say in advance who is performing. We promise this year's ticket-holders that we love our
lineup--there is not a single act taking part that we are less than thrilled to be sharing a stage with. But we also want to warn you that as far as Big Names go, this edition may be a little less jaw-dropping than others, depending on your jaw. If you want to read between the lines and surmise that this is not the year that Noel Gallagher joins us for "Bang a Gong," don't let us stop you.

Phew, glad I got that off my chest. See you soon!

Happy Thanksgiving everybody,

Haven't sent one of these messages for awhile, but I'm happy to report that I'll be back on WFMU this Friday morning, from 9 a.m. until noon 9 (eastern time, need I remind you), keeping the headphones warm for the very excellent Doug Schulkind while his Give the Drummer Some program takes the week off. Lest anyone forget, WFMU can be found on the finest FM dials at 91.1. Should you find yourself in the Hudson Valley region of New York, you'll have better luck with 90.1. The rest of you are invited to tune in on your computers by going to http://wfmu.org/ and following a few easy steps. As a special service, feel free to blame any and all queasiness on the music I'm playing, instead of the overeating and drinking of the day before. Just my way of saying Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

On-line tickets for Dec. 25 are apparently sold out.

Looking forward to seeing those of you with tickets at these shows over the holidays.
Friday, October 17, 2008
As of 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct 16th, Hanukkah 2008 tickets are sold out on-line to ALL shows except Tues. 12/23, Wed. 12/24 and Thurs. 12/25.

There are a limited number of tickets left on-line for 12/23, so we are guessing those will be gone shortly.

If folks are still interested in trying to find tickets for those days, check with Tunes in Hoboken and Other Music in NYC, both of whom are selling tickets for all shows.

Hope this helps and thanks for checking in with us.

Hey everybody,

Got a lot on my mind, so pull up a chair.

First off, let's make it official. We're going to play another series of Hanukkah shows this year at Maxwell's, The dates are December 21 - December 28. Inflation may be rampant, but not here: tickets will be $30, just like last year. Shows will begin at 9:00
on Friday and Saturday, and 8:30 every other night. There'll be a musical act in addition to Yo La Tengo, some comedy, and maybe something else. We'll see. But just like last year, we will be enforcing a strict "don't ask, don't tell" policy about the lineups. Mostly because we won't know until the last minute, but--we cannot
tell a lie--also because we're ornery that way. Tickets will go on sale October 15 at 12 noon eastern time. Ordering links provided below.

There is one thing we can tell you. The Feelies will not be playing with us during Hanukkah, scout's honor. But we will be doing a gala New Year's Eve show with the Feelies, merely New Jersey's greatest rock band ever, and Vivian Girls at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair NJ, home of Stephen Colbert and Don Fleming.

Tickets will be $35, or a mere $115 less than it costs to see Steely Dan. (To be fair, if you're paying per chord, Steely Dan is priced competitively.)

As Joan Rivers asked so poignantly: can we talk? With all the economic turmoil turmoiling about us these days, it's not that easy to suggest that you spend what's left of your money with us. But if you've ever attended these Hanukkah shows before, we hope you'll agree that they are unique evenings of entertainment (and if you haven't, there are lengthy descriptions of the 2005 and 2007 editions archived in the News section at yolatengo.com). We don't take a penny from these shows, and no performer receives anything beyond their expenses. The word benefit is an often abused one, but we promise you, the money you pay is being passed along to charity.

Which brings me to the next point. Over the years, from time to time people have offered unsolicited suggestions about where we could donate the proceeds from individual shows, suggestions we have frequently taken. So let's solicit them this year: If you work for a non-profit organization, don't hesitate to tell us about it. We
can't guarantee that we'll select you as one of our recipients, but we will absolutely consider it.

I guess that's it. Hope to see you in December. Here are the links with which to order tickets:

Hi folks,

If you're in the greater Hoboken vicinity this Monday night (and
truly there is no greater vicinity than the Hoboken vicinity), then
please come by Maxwell's where we'll be performing a short set as part
of a benefit. Apparently, much to many people's surprise, a plot of
land has been discovered in Hoboken that has not been turned into
condos, and naturally eager beavers want to rectify that shocking
situation as fast as possible. Unfortunately, that plot of land is
where we practice, and where many of Hoboken's artists have their work
space. So we're fighting the developers and trying to raise some money
with which to fight. More details can be found at

http://www.maxwellsnj.com/

Meanwhile, there are still seven more shopping days before Georgia
and I take to our bicycles, riding around Manhattan in hopes that
people will sponsor us, with the money going to the fight against MS.
Many of you have already donated money to us--especially to Georgia.
(Not that I'm complaining--this is not a competition. Luckily.) If
you've been meaning to donate, don't let us stop you. To donate to me,
go to:

https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=251540&lis=1&kntae251540=7A3EB35097A84B419F8B8EF0362C3ED9&supId=61463846

to donate to Georgia, go to . . . hey, that's weird, I can't find the
link anywhere.

Don't forget, They Shoot They Score is available from

http://www.yolatengo.com

both as a compact disc and also in that mp3 format so popular with today's young people. We regret to say we will not be donating these proceeds to charity.

Good news! I located the link to donate to Georgia's bike ride:

https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=251540&lis=1&kntae251540=7A3EB35097A84B419F8B8EF0362C3ED9&supId=57406514

that's about it,

Ira

Hi everybody,

On October 5, Georgia and I will be participating in what used to be
called the MS Bike Tour, but what now goes under the somewhat more
ungainly name Bike MS New York City Traffic Free. Call it what you
will, we will be be riding 30 miles around Manhattan, unless one or
both of us decides to go wild and make a dash through the Lincoln
Tunnel and take a spin around New Jersey too. (That's what we did in
2005, Georgia topping out at 45 miles, me clocking in at 60.) And in
the process try to raise some money in the fight against MS.

If you would like to sponsor one or both of us, we'll be very
grateful.

For Georgia:

For Ira:

Thanks so much.

As East River Pipe put it so eloquently: helmet on,

Hey everybody,

A few things we want to tell you about. First and foremost, it only
took us a few years, but we've finally compiled our contributions to the
motion pictures Game 6, Junebug, Old Joy, and Shortbus onto a cd. It's
called They Shoot, We Score and you can order it at

http://www.yolatengo.com/forsale/index.php?main_page=product_music_info&products_id=210

right now, although we won't be fulfilling orders till September 5.

What else? If you're in the vicinity of Brooklyn USA on August 24,
please drop by the McCarren Pool and rock w/us. The cost: nothing.

Can't come to the Pool because you're in Asia? Good news! We're going
to be in Korea and Taiwan in October. Check the Schedule page on
yolatengo.com for more details.

We want to apologize to our amigos and amigas in South America. Rumors
of an autumn tour have abounded, and we are sorry to say they are
unfounded. We keep trying to schedule shows there, but so far, so not
good. Hopefully in 2009.

Finally, a couple of non-Yo La Tengo announcements. Georgia and Ira
will be playing at Maxwell's on September 5 with Glenn Mercer, Dave Schramm
and a slew of others, to raise money for our pal Terry Karydes. Hope you
can join us. And Ira continues to do shows on WFMU. If you'd like to know
when, sign up here:

http://yolatengo.com/contact.html

OK, that's about it. Don't forget the sunblock!

Hi folks,

It's the pennant race, as you all know, and your beloved team has made a key change at the management level. I refer of course to WFMU where Ken has taken over for Brian as program director. And he's not messing around. Even the old-timers are being called upon to give 110%.

And that's why, against all protocol, I'm going Yadier Molina on the WFMU listeners: that's right, it's a day game after a night game for me.

Here are the details: Friday night August 1 from 11 pm until 2 am Saturday in the eastern time zone, I will be filling in for Rich Hazelton, manning the reins of the Inflatable Squirrel Carcass. A scant 11 hours later, I will be back on the airwaves, filling in for Rex from 1 pm-3 pm as he takes a one-week sabbatical from Fool's Pardise. The shows promise to be as different as night and day (get it?). Hope you can tune in, either on your radio dial at 91.1 in the greater Jersey City area, 90.1 for Mount Hope and the quad cities, and at wfmu.org for the rest of you.

See you in radioland.

Ira
