Great thanks to everyone who was at the Volcano last night in Houston TX. That has really become a cool little scene over there. I look forward to going down there once a month to play music for the fine folks. Thanks to Pete Mitchell for making it happen and keeping it going.

This is amazing to look at. Coolidge the Republican wins. Note Wisconsin going to a third party progressive.

The Buck Owens birthday bash...17th annual, was interesting. I was told to arrive at 8pm and check in with MC Dallas Wayne. He told me I would go on at 12am. I tried sticking it out for four hours in a crowded C Club, but forget that. I went home and watched the leotards choke. I returned about 11:30 and was asked where I had been. They'd been calling for me. But...but...you said 12, dude. Oh well, this is a total cluster. I ended up being the last act on at 1am. They saved the best for last, yo! I was on fire. I belted those songs out as loud and proud as I could. This was my personal shout out to Mr. Owens who I know mus have been looking down. Other highlights were The Derailers who were the only ones that could even compete with me. They chose nice tunes, "Big In Vegas" and "Who's Gonna Mow Your Grass." The band was Tom Lewis on drums, Ricky Davis on Pedal Steel, Earl Poole Ball on piany, Casper Rawls on guitar and Warren Hood snuck in late to play fiddle. I did Tall Dark Stranger. You should watch this you tube video for the full effect; Buck Owens fuzzy film filters. Then I got to delegate solo's to all these players during Truck Driving Man. That was cool and well worth it. See y'all tonight at Shinyribs, if you are worthy of such.

Flew into Salt Lake early this morn. Had a few hours to kill so's I get a taxi man to shuttle me to the brains of this mormonic metropolis. I says, "take me to the center, restaurants, shops, walking around kind of town." He asks in an Afro-Caribbean accent, "McDonald's?" "No, no, no, just take me to the middle of town." He needed an address so he handed me his GPS and says to pick something I want to go to. I look at this thing and give it back. "Just take me downtown." So he takes me to a McDonalds downtown. From there I set out in hopes of encountering the tabernacle gang. I wondered around for a while and ended up in a park of city hall. I sat there feeling kinda weird about not having anywhere to go or anywhere to be. It was a strangely scary feeling. I didn't get much sleep the night before cuz all of the folk singers outside. But, I did get some of that vitamin folk from it. Anyway, I felt a little crazy sitting there with all the other crazies sitting out there. A gentleman in a gold frock walked by me singing a song;
Everybody, listen to me, And return me, my ship. Im your captain, Im your captain, Although Im feeling mighty sick.
Ive been lost now, days uncounted, And its months since Ive seen home. Can you hear me, can you hear me, Or am I all alone.
If you return me, to my home port, I will kiss you mother earth. Take me back now, take me back now, To the port of my birth.
Am I in my cabin dreaming, or are you really scheming, To take my ship away from me?
This song was in my head as I boarded the satellite bound for Grand Junction. Therein there was much spirit and good will for the journey we had found us in the middle....soon we will sing our songs for a new tribe in the 4 corners.

In my concern for what it may have been in the bottom of the french press I upended it by the handle and the carafe fell into the basin of the kitchen sink breaking into large, jagged pieces. I broke my friend's coffee maker. For shame, for shame I am grinding my red eyes and wishing I was not so stupid sometimes. The water was boiling, the coffee was ground and all I had to do was put it in there. But, no I had to break the damned thing. No coffee, feel like a dumb ass, chafed and sleep deprived. I asked for it I suppose, to be let out of the work detail for a couple of days. I forgot how to operate in the real world. Days and days of buying coffee makes a man stupid between the ears and clumsy with his hands. I played in Boise recently at the birthday party of a good friend. It was just me and Mike Stewart and Keith Langford. But we ripped it up pretty good. Folks were dancing and having a real good time. Once it got dark it got perty hard to see what we were playing. Yesterday we played Pickathon music festival. I did a songwriting workshop for a room full of folks. It was great to just sit there and play songs, answer questions and talk about what I love to do. The voice was a bit rough from previous shows with The Gourds. But, I did all right. Our show later with the Shinyribs band was really cool. Again, Me, Mike and Keith played for half an hour on a little stage, while another band set up on the big stage. We ripped it up and I think surprised a lot of people. One day yer on a stage and can do no wrong, the next day you are breaking yer friend's coffee maker. What a bone head.

It ain't easy being gruene and it ain't easy playing gruene on a saturday afternoon without the starting line-up. I have another team I play for as well in Austin that night. It was going to be a cool gig with Rockerfly on drums and Jeff Brown, of No Show Ponies, on bass. But, alas, I deemed it ethically questionable to attempt four hours, that's right 4 Hours with an unrehearsed and indeed an unacquainted combo. Please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. Shinyribs
