Tomorrow starts the 'GUITARS GONE WILD' Tour with Jennifer Batten! I'm totally psyched!

We'll start in Natick Mass at a beautiful arts center, TCAN and from there head down the east coast.  Full details are on the myspace front page.  I don't know when we'll do this again in the US so if you are a guitar fan, try to make one of these shows.  (Looking at November in the Czech Republic for those of you there!)

MAY 19 GUITAR PLAYER MAG hits the stands with the July issue (or so I'm told).  There's a lesson/story on me in there, so please go out and grab one if you can.

Thanks to Andrew DuBrock, I have the very first professional transcription of a Genfan instrumental - Kali Dreams.  It will be available soon on the website. www.vickigenfan.com

I've written my first COLUMN for PREMIER GUITAR MAGAZINE which will be in the July issue.  It's featuring guitarist Susan Weinert www.susanweinert.com and her awesome midi guitar/nylon string guitar set up.  Check it and her out.

MERCH TALK:  With the vision of Tay Hoyle, the art work of Lynne Taetszch and the Calligraphy of Claus Dorsch, we have created a series of 3 'Special Occasion' Cards....with the music from my song, 'Cause of You' inside!  They are gorgeous and are great as a way of letting someone special in your life know how much they mean to you...kind of mushy but you'll love them (we hope).  Check the website in the next weeks for that. They'll be available now at all live shows!!!

LUNA GUITARS and Luthier Gray Burchette are putting together the final touches on the Genfan Signature Model guitar which is almost ready for playing!  Can't wait.  It's a JUMBO.  Never played anything that big, but I'm ready.

Thanks to Nadia Kaleem for keeping this page and all my pages updated!!!!  I couldn't do it alone.

Hope to see some of you at these upcoming shows...hope all of you are continuing to follow your musical dreams! Thanks for the visits and the support!!!

Ciao for now,

Vicki

Current mood:  blessed

At home, just a short time this time.  Reeling a bit from a wonderful tour and visit in Germany.  7 shows with Christina Lux (www.christinalux.com) and Susan & Martin Weinert (www.susanweinert.com).  Inspired by all of them, excited to work on new music (possibly a new tuning??) with the energy of the tour. Christina's voice - so strong, clear, from deep down inside, honest, compelling.  Her songs force us to look at the truth of so many hard things, but always bring healing. Susan's guitar playing, filled with shades of colours that carry you to other worlds....Martin's upright bass an extension of his joyful spirit!  You have to check out their music if you haven't yet! We ended each show with a couple of songs from the UnCovered CD as well as an improv 'jam'.  Way too much fun.  Videos will be coming soon.....

.. ..

The big question tonight: Do I dare try to learn the theme song from 'The Price Is Right' in time for Tuesday's filming in L.A.?  I have the chance to play a guitar that will be one of the prizes!  They tell me it's about a 15 second spot, but I'm banking on at least 20 seconds....we'll see.  I got a tip from Larry Mitchell (great, great guitarist/producer) that if I know the theme song, they'll give me some extra time going to a commercial.  Have you ever heard the theme song?????  OMG.....

.. ..

Vicki the Columnist??....

I'm waiting to hear back from a guitar magazine whose name I will not yet mention, who has asked me to write a monthly column on 'Acoustic Guitar Gear'...what a great opportunity for me to learn something about all of that stuff!  Hope to find out soon if it's for real, or just a tease.....

.. ..

No matter how often I declutter my desk, it remains a mess.  I'm hoping to channel the energy of my partner Tay and finally make sense out of it.  That and the studio. There are just too many guitars in there.  Attic sale is coming up soon, spring cleaning.  Time to LET GO....keep posted for tons of musical items to be sold!....

.. ..

Did I even mention that I gave a guitar lesson to Margaret Cho????  For goodness sake.  She's so totally normal when she's not on stage (or tweeting)....wow.  She truly aspires to be a great guitarist.  Can't wait for the next lesson!....

.. ..

Luna is almost done with the 'Genfan' guitar....Luthier Gray Burchette has made it happen and Alex Morgan created an amazing Henna-Om design. Luna creator, Yvonne DeVilliers orchestrated the whole thing.  As I write this the body is getting it's Henna design 'lasered' onto it! Yikes.  We're talking with tech wizard Chris Grener about the pick-up installation.....

.. ..

Finally got the chance today to  listen to CNN all day long.  Pirates. Holy crap.  I'm certainly praying hard for the captain to be sent home safe and sound.  I just can't quite get a grip on the reality of 'Pirates' - can you?....

.. ..

And with all the challenges and job losses and all the people suffering homelessness, and all the fear among so many at this time I am searching for the miracles and the magic that still happens when people are honest and loving towards one another.  Let's all try to help wherever and whenever we can.  I feel amazingly priviledged to lead this life that I'm leading.  I hope that I can offer hope, healing, and inspiration through my music.....

.. ..

PEACE OUT and in, and all around........

.. ..

Until next time -....

Wow! Thank you to EVERYONE who has supported me and my music, and to the folks who I got to share the stage with last Saturday night at the Great American Music Hall in SF, Ca. I'm humbled and honored to be the 2008 Guitar Superstar Champion!

Here's the video that shows all:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZU5SA3hmSc

How amazing is it to be listened to by Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Elliot Easton, Brendon Small and George Lynch? AMAZING. I'm lucky.
I've been reading about the prizes that are coming to my house - OMG - I'm in shock. How can one girl use so many distortion pedals? Can't wait.

Again, just want to say THANK YOU!

Peace & Love for now,
Vicki
BTW - I was quoted in one article naming my style of playing 'Flap Tap'. In truth, that sounds like a pancake you might order at IHOP, and I really said 'SLAP TAP'. There you have it.

So why $2.00 for One Song?

Buy "'Cause of You" MP3 & Support Cancer Research!
This is a special song for a very special project, paying homage to all the Mother's in our lives, those still living and those  who have passed. The song," 'Cause of You ", came to me on the 25th anniversary of my mom's passing. As I've often said, I think of the songs that I've written as gifts to me - and it's my job to give them to YOU. This Mother's Day project is a way for all of us to give something in honor of our Mothers. The net proceeds from your purchase of this song will be donated equally to two organizations, both supporting research for cancer prevention, treatment and care.

The first is very close to home and heart and is The Muriel Genfan Scholarship Fund. Started 25 years ago, in my mom's memory, the fund gives a yearly scholarship award to a chosen Medical Student at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey for outstanding cancer research.

The second is The Cancer Research Institute. In their own words, "For more than five decades, CRI has been a leading and sustaining force in immunology and cancer immunology research worldwide. Through our advancement of these two scientific fields, we are learning how to manipulate the human immune system to target and attack cancer. Our goal is to discover and develop new, immune-based approaches to the treatment, control, and prevention of cancer."

Please pass the video along to everyone you know who either IS a mother or HAS a mother. Think of it as just one more mother's day gift.  It's FREE.  It will bring a smile, or a tear to all who see it. You can purchase a digital download of the audio right here at the SNOCAP store, http://void.snocap.com/s/T3-31324-KV6FP324JC-X and you can send it to anyone who might like it. SPECIAL NOTE: The snocap store might tell you the song is not available for listening. It is, however totally available for purchasing and downloading! Thanks so much.

SPECIAL THANKS...I can't thank you enough for participating in this with us.  Those of you who sent in pictures, you really helped make the video come to life!  Dennis Stafford - kudos for thinking of this idea and Tay Hoyle - kudos for your amazing videography skills and endless stamina making the deadline for this.  Luna Guitars and Sights and Sounds Films - Thank You for your help with the original footage. Thanks Nadia Kaleem for saving the day many times!!

With a gratefully full heart,

Vicki,
