"Everything about this project has come together in such a very spontaneous way that I feel I can't explain it, I can only tell you how much fun it has been and how lucky I think we all feel to have met each other, worked together, and created something, maybe not out of nothing, but out of what and who we are. We set out to write some good songs, to perform them, to record them, to work together and see what we could accomplish. I don't think any of us had any idea of what we would do exactly, and so we would try to find a natural flow with the way it was coming together, and we were going to do our best.
I had been to Mexico a few times to work with Gabriel and his group QUEM when they invited me as a guest musician to play and record two of my songs on their album 'callejero'. But it wasn't until Gabriel's trip to Canada that we first fashioned a repertoire and prepared a few shows. Steve Patterson and Gabriel were cool right from the start and so we played those shows together. Some months later, he called me up, said that he had got access to a studio, had found some great engineers, whatever we needed, and invited Steve and I to go and join him and see what we could make of it. So, we bought our tickets and set off for Mexico City to spend two weeks writing, arranging, recording and by the end of our trip we had recorded ten songs, had been interviewed on National TV and had met some wonderful people, played some and before we knew it we were back home. In the weeks following, everything continued to fall into place. Only a few weeks after that, we were back in Mexico again to touch up a few things and mix the album. Shortly after, Gabriel then went to Los Angeles to master with Precision Mastering and now we have a beautiful project. It has been a wonderful oppurtunity and experience and we've met so many wonderful people that are really pleased with how the project has come along so far. We were up to the challenge and did what we could with the time we had, and ultimately succeeded in pushing our creative limits to the max, but we'll let you be the judge.
I would to thank all who support us in Mexico and in Canada. I want to especially thank all those who come to see us at the Café Nostalgica, you have put the good feeling in our hearts, and have given us the courage and confidence to just do it, but most of all, you have given us the momentum. Thank you."
- Philippe Lafreniere, People Project
